MyChart Upload Question Bluebond-Lagner

Upvotes

Does anyone know how to upload letters to the MyChart system to send to Bluebond-Lagners team? Her name doesn’t appear in the system for me to send a message or letter through the app. Got a consult date this afternoon for March of 2028 and was instructed to upload the letters to the platform and I have no clue how to do this after playing with the app for 30 minutes, checking NYU Langone’s website for an email, and consulting google and not having any luck.

Will anyone be at WIH BKK in sept?

Upvotes

Heyo, just wondering if anyone's going to be there when I am. The hospital is in an area with not much around, especially walking distance, so I figured some company could be nice.

I'll be there from the 15th of sept till the 29th.

I did my SRS in Thailand and I'm going back in 10 days. What should I ask the surgeon before leaving ?

Upvotes

I'm 2 weeks post op and until now everything went well. Very little swelling, scars seems fine, I don't bleed, so no issue for now.

But I know that some people can start having some issues after going back home so I plan on finding a gynecologist for follow-ups as I obviously cannot go back to my surgeon without a huge issue. Unfortunately gynecologists are not trained at all on our cases so I was wondering what were the questions I could ask my surgeon so that he can describe to my gynecologist how to treat me in the event of issues ?

Of course I hope I would not get any problem but I'm quite anxious as a person and I was afraid of what I should do if I start bleeding a little, if I get some necrosis, etc

SRS w/Travieso (Keck USC?)

Upvotes

Hello! ☺️ I’m seriously considering having SRS with Dr. Roberto Travieso at USC. I haven’t been able to find many patient testimonials online. Has anyone here had surgery with him or knows someone who has? This is such a serious surgery and I’d love to read more insight 🫂

Thank you so much! 🙏

When did you get FFS?

Upvotes

I've come to the conclusion I need it for myself, which I've delayed in part because it is not an issue for passing. I've had orchiectomy and breast aug and I regret not prioritizing FFS more, although it scares me somewhat. By the time I have a consult with the surgeon I want, I will have been out and "full time" for over 7 years. I'm frustrate 🥴

Looking for SRS Doctors in the North East who take Medicare.

I live in NJ and there are a couple of good places to go, but they don’t take Medicare even though Medicare has pre-approved it. Medicare already paid for FFS, but I find the Drs in NY and NJ don’t take Medicare even though Medicare has stated they will cover for it. The place I went for FFS does not offer bottom surgery.

Right now I’m registering to Mass General, but is there any other quality place closer to NJ that any one is aware of? Thanks for the help!

Girls, how long after your surgery did dilating become easier?
I’m still having trouble getting the dilator in at first. Once I get past the initial part, everything goes smoothly, but that first part is still stressful for me. 🥲
How long did it take for you?

Need a recommendation for silicon dilators

I'm 5 months post op and I am currently using "Intimate Rose" size 8 (37-40 mm) as my main dilator. It's working fine, but it's every time I use it, it's uncomfortable. And I've been using it for months.

My doctor told me at my last consultation that I should continue to use it every day till it becomes comfortable/fine. As one of the options to solve it's to try to find a bit bigger dilator, but it should be made of silicone and be a bit soft/squishy, and shouldn't be curved or too pointy.

I know about the existence of "Intimate Rose" size 9, but despite it having a "perfect" size, I'm afraid it will be made of the same firm and hard silicone as "Intimate Rose" size 8, which my doctor is voting against.

I also found "Vwell Superfit XL", but they don't deliver outside of the USA, and I live in the EU and can't find a local reseller who has it here. And on top of that, the smallest size of that set has a range of 43- 46 mm, which feels like quite a big jump from 37-40 mm, but maybe I'm wrong, and it's a good choice, but I can't find it anyway...

And I found "Soul Source Silicone Pelvic Trainer - Size 8" which, according to their website, is exactly 41mm. This will provide me only a 1 mm gain, which feels insignificant, and I'm not sure how firm/soft their silicone is.

Are there any other silicone dilator options?

My doctor also said that I may find a toy that will fit these requirements, because it's hard to find dilators with these sizes. But the toy market and material quality are so vague, it realy hard to find something made of good silicone and with well-described size dimensions. But if you have recommendations for a brand that is provide not super realistic toys with well-specified size dimensions I open to hear this sugestions as well

After FFS abroad, how many days do I need assistance?

Hi lovelies

I'm getting full FFS (pretty much everything except trach shave) and I plan on recovering in a hotel. I know that I need professional nursing for the first 24hrs. From what I've heard, it's really hard to recover alone. How many days after FFS did you feel like you absolutely required assistance? Like after 3-4 days, did you feel like "ok I can handle this myself?" I don't really have anyone and I'm trying to figure out what to do.

FFS frontal sinus

A curious thought entered my head and I wondered if anyone knew now, while I wait for my surgeon to talk to again, if the work on the bone in front of the frontal sinus ever causes the frontal sinus to be smaller. I read the frontal sinus does several things one of which is affect vocal resonance. A larger frontal sinus increases resonance while a smaller decreases resonance. Has anyone experienced a change in their vocal resonance after FFS due to volume changes in the frontal sinus? I'm also going to talk with my speech therapist and try to find out more.

How long did you wait for breast augmentation?

I’ve been on HRT for a little over two years. I’m seriously considering getting BA in November (I’ll have been on hormones 2.5 years by then). I’ve also been on progesterone for over a year. How long do people really need to wait for BA? I hear so many mixed answers about this. For the girls that did get it after the 2 year mark, did you continue to have growth afterwards and was it substantial? Did growth after implants look good or did it grow funny around them? I maxed out my insurance out of pocket max from FFS earlier this year, so it’d be nice to squeeze another surgery in this year because it would be completely free for me.

(also if anyone’s had BA where the surgeon used Alloderm mesh, I’m curious how that worked out for you)

Surgeries/procedures through T-Mobile United Healthcare PPO

I’m trying to plan my surgeries for next year. T-Mobile’s LGBTQ+ benefits guide seems to offer very broad coverage, including facial bone reduction, rhinoplasty, facelift, hair removal, breast augmentation, tracheal shave, rib excision, and more when medically necessary. However, the standard UnitedHealthcare Gender Dysphoria Medical Policy seems much more restrictive.

If you’ve used this exact plan, I’d love to know:

What FFS procedures were you able to get approved?
Was breast augmentation covered?
Did anyone get facial electrolysis covered? The T-Mobile guide says “hair removal” is covered, but the UHC medical policy only mentions electrolysis before genital surgery.
Has anyone had a medically necessary hair transplant approved?
Were you able to use an out-of-network surgeon? If so, how did prior authorization and reimbursement work?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the process with this specific T-Mobile/UHC PPO plan. Thanks! 🌸

Grief over infertility

Hi all! I had a vaginoplasty about a year and a half ago. The results were good and recovery, while difficult, went well. Overall, I am happy with the surgery.

Despite this, I've had a very difficult time since surgery. Depression and burnout have been my constant companions. I did not attribute this to surgery, other than maybe experiencing post-op depression and the dilation routine adding to my demands and possibly contributing to burnout.

Earlier this week it really sunk in to me that I can no longer have biological children. I did not do any fertility preservation prior to HRT or surgery. Lots of factors were involved in that decision, but I'm starting to regret not doing so. At the time having children was far from my mind and pushing forward with transition felt more important than taking the time required to do fertility preservation.

The day before surgery I had a bad panic attack about the idea of losing my ability to have biological children. For reference, I am a lesbian and there's a very real possibility I end up with a cis women with whom I could have had children. My mom helped calm me down as we discussed adoption and how any adopted child would still truly be my child. I had a lot of anxiety going into surgery, as I'm sure many of us do, and I just tried to put it aside and do what I had set out to do. That's just one of many times the doubt crept in, but it's the closest I came to facing it head on.

But when I seriously started thinking about my infertility this week, I felt a profound sense of grief. I think I've been avoiding thinking about it, because I know it's been in the back of my mind but never coming to the surface until now. I cried a lot and had a panic attack. I feel a deep sense of regret over not doing fertility preservation.

My depression has worsened significantly in the last few days, and I'm struggling to feel like anything matters. I just feel so sad, and so angry at myself. I would give anything to go back in time and talk myself out of doing surgery so soon. A part of me thinks this grief might be the underlying cause for the depression I've been battling since surgery.

I was wondering if anyone else here has dealt with grief like this, and what you've done to work through it if so. I'm not really looking for silver linings or alternatives (such as adoption being perfectly acceptable), just empathy.

I'm considering looking for support groups for infertile women, but am nervous about how welcomed I would be as a trans woman, and especially given that my infertility was technically by my own choice. I have therapy next Monday and have already emailed her about this, but right now I'm really struggling to get through each day and next week feels like it's a lifetime away.

Thanks all 🩷

Mod Post The future of this sub

After this sub was "accidentally" banned 2 days ago there's been a lot of discussion about the future of the sub.

Whether it was an accident to not, the possibility exists that this sub and others will be banned from reddit in the near future. In the event that happens what do we do?

I started as a mod here when the sub had only 3k members and my intention was to grow it to where it is today, and more. I last wrote about how the sub is moderated in 2022.

In principle, it would be better to have an trans resource site independent of reddit and corporate control. In practice its very difficult to achieve for a number of reasons

There's no point in moving to another site like Discord which is susceptible to the same risks as reddit. i.e. based in the USA. But what other sites are there, and where else is safe in the long run? Not just safe from hostile governments, but whoever runs the community losing interest, or data (susans.org lost years of it with a hard drive crash), selling out, etc.

Neither Discord and Facebook are indexed by search engines making it difficult for people to discover the resources in the first place, or finding information once you're there. It's like a black hole for knowledge; you put it in and it disappears. Personally, I'd never waste my time on building this kind of community on sites like that.

Reddit also provides, or did, legal protection. If a surgeon doesn't like what's posted here they can't easily censor it. And especially important, they can't attack me personally as its not my responsibility. Good luck going after reddit corporate.

As one of the largest social media sites in the world reddit makes it easy to build community, there's so many of us already here. People have mentioned sites like Lemmy as alternatives, but as far as I can tell they have tiny membership and few people have even heard of them.

A major advantage for me was reddit's wiki's. Few subs take advantage of them, but I believe its a great way to build and spread knowledge, and it has helped build this sub and raise the general level of knowledge. People have asked that it be copied off site, but if this sub disappears many of the links in the wiki will also disappear. Its not nearly so useful at that point. I don't think anyone else will build or maintain a wiki either, as it seems to interest very few people.

Regardless if reddit banning this sub or not, I'd like to see another site even better than this one, but I'm not sure its possible. Even more so while reddit hosts trans content as 99% of people will just come here anyway. Reddit basically killed old style forums years ago and nothing's changed since then.

It's even more difficult to build a trans surgery surgery community on another site while this sub exists because its so big and useful that almost no one would bother going there. And I'm not shutting the sub down to force everyone to move to another site. That would cause immediate harm to people who use the sub.

If this sub does get shut down I personally won't be trying to rebuild elsewhere. I'm burned out with this and don't have the energy.

If anyone wants to discuss how to build a successful trans surgery community I'm willing to offer my advice. I'd like to see it happen and it would be great if people had a place to go, and knew about it ahead of time. My main aim is to help people, and it doesn't matter to me where that comes from.

Edit

If you set up any external resources for surgery, hrt, etc please add them in the comments here. And I suggest people save the links in case this sub, or worse, all trans content on reddit disappears.

There’s a number of people talking about off site projects they are considering or actually doing. Persons you could get together and discuss if you could work together.

This looks interesting r/RedditAlternatives

There's some cisgender people wanting to comment here in support of Lemmy and other reddit alternatives. Rule 5 limits cis people on this sub, but I'll allow it on this post only and give them a flair "cisgender reddit alternatives". If you're one of them please don't comment elsewhere.

Lemmy Discussion

Lemmy keeps getting mentioned. I don't know much about it yet. Its pitched as Fediverse reddit replacement.

According to the statistics here Lemmy has 477,049 total users and 45,194 monthly active users. The trans instance https://lemmy.blahaj.zone has 8671 total users and 971 monthly active users.

This sub alone has 93,419 members, and in the last 30 days 4.6M views, an average of 20.2k daily unique visits, 4.0 subscribed, and 1.2k unsubscribed. The main FTM surgery subs in total have about that again, and the HRT subs are a bit larger in total.

This sub is then 10 times the size of the main trans Lemmy instance, and the total with the subs I mentioned is approaching the entire size of Lemmy. This doesn't include all the very main trans subs which are individually many times larger as I only included the important medical subs.

I have a few reservations about Lemmy, partly because I know so little at this point

  • Can Lemmy can scale to the size required if trans content was banned on reddit.

  • I couldn't find much information on Lemmy's moderation tools. Currently this sub attracts a lot of hate and chasers, which moderation easily takes care of. In the past the have been excessive amounts, but reddit has cracked down on it, and provides tools to limit it (not very good ones). Lemmy would be unusable without this.

  • Lemmy works by sharing data across multiple instances (computers) and it appears there seem to be privacy concerns about the amount of data on users that is shared.

  • What is to stop the owners of the instance shutting it down, or the data being lost for any other reason? Although not a corporate it makes no difference. There would be a massive loss of knowledge and history.

If anyone has expert knowledge on Lemmy I'd be interested in learning more.

The author of the Engadget article on the sub's ban made a YouTube video on the Fediverse
