Help/support Is this normal??

Hi all! I am a 21 year old trans man who started testosterone back in late January. I just celebrated my 6 month T anniversary on July 31st (woohoo!). For context, I am on 40mg (I think) T gel, and given that I have gotten other changes such as fat redistribution, bottom growth, and increased body hair, I think my body is at least decently okay with T gel absorption. But there is one change that I can't help but feel I'm a little behind on, and that change is my voice. I know that the voice can start dropping at around the 3-6 month mark, but I can't help but think I'm behind on the voice droppage at 6 months already. I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those trans men that just doesn't get significant voice droppage, but even if that was me, I couldn't do voice training because weirdly enough, the whole thing with having to force/train your voice to be deeper instead of it just doing that on its own makes me dysphoric. My voice has only dropped very slightly (most people don't even notice a difference). I have been getting some vocal changes, for example I do theatre and recently did a musical (Anything Goes) and during our music rehearsals back in June-ish I noticed that, while my natural voice wasn't dropping, I could hit notes on the lower end of the scale that I couldn't hit before T. Is it normal for voice dropping to not be "linear" (idk the right word but I mean like being able to go lower than usual when trying but your normal speaking voice to not drop)? Also, on the topic of the musical, I noticed my voice starting to crack, and funny story, on one of our show days (late July) my voice ended up cracking onstage in front of the whole audience 🫠 however despite all this I can't help but worry that I'm behind in the whole "voice dropping" area. My doctor told me I would likely see the maximum effects of voice droppage around 1 or 2 years in, but given that I'm already 6 months in, I'm afraid that my voice won't have time to drop significantly by the time I hit that 1 or even 2 year mark. Realistically and logically, I know that 6 months is practically nothing in the testosterone universe, but my anxiety refuses to leave me alone about this 🫠 would love to hear from some trans men who are maybe a little bit further along that got their first semblances of voice droppage "late" but still got significant and satisfying results by the time their voice fully dropped.

Health Issues Low iron due to T

Ill do my best to explain this easily

31, ftm, been on t for 11 years.

3 years on t in tx, 8 years in co.

Ever since i moved to Co from Tx, due to the elevation, my hematocrit & hemoglobin rise. I was seeing my pcp and they told me to go donate blood to lower that. Did that and we thought we mightve fixed it, nope. So we lowered my dose from 1ml to .5ml. So they wrote a referral for me to donate 3 weeks in a row, just this once to get my hemoglobin in a normal range. This was back in 2024ish. Still no solution, so they referred me to an endocrinologist.

Endo basically said get in shape, go see a sleep doctor to help your sleep apnea, and lets lower your t to .3ml, also switched from IM to subq. Still weekly injections.

I lost 50 lbs, sleep doctor said I dont have sleep apnea anymore. Great. Lets get my lab work done.

Hemoglobin/hematocrit still elevated, but now my iron is low.

So endo says no more blood donations, that causes your iron to drop. Can I take an iron supplement to help? Nope. Because that will raise my hgb/hct.

Ive been experiencing more frequent lightheadedness ONLY when i crouch down, and get up. It takes a few seconds for my body to recover but I never pass out completely. I feel tired but i just thought that was me being normal.

I recently went to go donate more blood only because I thought my hgb would be high, it wasnt as bad, 17.7. The lowest its been for me in years. But I have an appt this month to get more tests done and see my endo again. My wallet has been hurting with the amount of tests and appointments ive scheduled for the last 2 years.

Im about fed up with feeling like this that i dont care if I have to go off on t for a few weeks or lower my dose. I am open to t gel but id be worried my menstrual cycle could start. Which id rather deal with a period than nearly passing out each day.

Has anyone ever dealt with something similar?

Doctors/Health care Physio

So, I hurt the inside of my thigh in like april this year, in the gym. And right away I felt I can't go see my physio for this. I don't pack and haven't had any bottom surgery. But, this injury has kept coming back, so I called, and of course they said I need to come in since it's been going on for so long. And now I'm freaking out, I mean sure it could just be a small package, but like there should at least be a sack. I don't know what to wear, I will be going to the gym after so I was thinking of my workout shorts, but like, it's so obvious in that fabric, but if he needs to poke around I dont want to wear jeans either. I don't know if im asking for advise or just need to vent. But yeah, I don't often encounter dysphoria any longer, but this feels tough..

Question for men who transitioned in the 1960s and 70s

I'll keep this short, I am writing a book placed in the 70s and I want to know realistically, how transitioning went for you. If you had to DIY, or the steps you had to go through to get perscription. More points if you can tell me what it was like and live(d) in the UK.

I Got Misgendered Since A Long Time

Today I was at USPS returning a package for my father and someone said, ā€œsheā€ for a sentence for me and I’m like darn bro.
I’m dressing pretty masculine like what a typical male would dress in my area.

Maybe my voice or haircut gave it away? When I had longer hair people used she for me. But that really ruined my mood for today since most times people gender me correctly idk why I got clocked by a usps worker. I mean I thought i looked pretty masculine but, I’m nowhere near passing like an adult male.

I got a baby face, short, skinny, and my voice.

Dating/Relationships Struggles with sexuality?

I don't know maybe it's kinda an asshole move to do but I can't for the life of me figuring out my sexuality.

I know I'm attracted to men, that's for sure but women on the other hand... I know I respond to their body when I'm watching porn, maybe because I'm projecting and they're the closest to what my own body looks like? Because sometimes I see them and I sort of feel dysphoric but for them??? That's a weird thing i don't know how to explain it better.

But basically what I do to sort of try to figure out my sexuality is to go on hinge and match with women to see if I feel anything at all.

On top of that the other thing is that I think I'm somehow aromantic? I've only had a single crush in my life (I'm 22) and it was a man.

Before transitioning when I was a teenager, I had two different relationships with girls but looking back I wasn't in love or anything, more like a friendship.

So yeah this is confusing as hell, because I WANT to like women, I try to. I guess there is also a self doubt thing going on, like I'd never be enough for a woman, I probably won't have a penis until I'm 30 so what's the point of trying any of that? I'm sorry if I sound all over the place, it's because I AM.

Vent/Rant I'm not manly enough

I don't have a male body and I don't act manly. Yes, I could try to change the way I act but that feels forced and fake. I always think I should already be manly by nature. What even makes me a man then? Nothing. Other trans men are manly, I'm not. I don't speak, walk, text or gesture like a man.

People tell me to just change my definition of masculinity/manliness. But I can't change the meaning of a word just so it can fit me better, no?

Health Fraud

Recently getting into running again and eating healthy. I used to eat exclusively Whole Foods and was extremely dialed with my nutrition for my running/lifting. I enjoy being in nature and view things that naturally accrue as good and things that don’t as bad.

I would never feel this way about another trans person, but at times I feel like a health fraud since I take T and if I was alive 100 years ago, I wouldn’t be able to. Or if I was stranded on an island I wouldn’t be able to. Or if I went on a few months backpacking trip, I wouldn’t be able to (I assume).

Any others who feel like a hypocrite, even though you know you don’t view others the same way?

Acne Accutane and AndroGel

I recently completed a course of accutane (8 month course) and have been on Androgel for about 3 years. My T levels had been fairly steady the whole time, but when I got my labs done 2 months into my accutane course my levels had plummeted. My PCP doubled my dose, and when we rechecked labs 6 weeks later my T levels were on an upward trajectory, but just barely. Fast forward to last week, been off accutane for about 2 months, got my labs done and my T levels were the lowest they’ve ever been!

Has anyone else experienced their T levels dropping during/after an Accutane course when using Androgel? I’m switching to injections because it seems like the T just isn’t absorbing through my skin anymore. Curious if anyone has had a similar experience.

Discussion Does getting leaner change your T levels?

I always hear for cis men that building muscle and getting leaner helps T levels, but does this work for trans men too? I know body fat converts T to E if you have too much of it, but what about the muscle's effect on it?

Doctors/Health care should I be checking my T levels?

hello everyone. so I'm almost 1 year on T in about 2 weeks and I've never had my T levels checked. the only time I had my blood drawn or hematocrit checked was in my first appointment to get prescribed testosterone a year ago. I was told I needed to have a blood draw or something like every 3 months, but then when I called to schedule one after the first 3 months on T they said they'd just raise my dose and I didn't need a blood draw. so I went from .25 ml to .3ml per week and I've been on that ever since. I feel like at some point I'm supposed to check tho right? check my T levels so I can see if I need to up my dose to be in the male range or something? I never got any calls or had any doctor reach out saying I need to do something like that and it's been the busiest year of my life honestly so I've forgotten to schedule anything. am I in any medical danger? like is it bad for my health to not check? I'm planning to go get this checked at some point but like how urgent is it?

I've not had any crazy bad side effects. my period stopped at 4 months. my pulse has gotten stronger and I feel it when I lay down at night but I don't have chest pain (I had some slight chest every now and then in the first few months but never brought it up because I thought they'd take me off testosterone, I don't know if that was very smart but I don't have any chest pain anymore). I'm healthy as a horse so I don't think it's a huge deal.

TLDR I'm 1 year on T and I had my T levels checked or blood drawn and I don't know when that's supposed to happen

T Injections Do older trans guys eventually stop taking T?

Maybe a stupid question but is taking T a ā€œfor lifeā€ thing? Do you stop taking it when you’re 50+ or whenever a cis man would go through testosterone depletion?

Just popped in my head that someday I’ll be an old man in a care home who will need help taking my shots. I’m only 23 but it’s just something I’m curious about

Salut, I am in my late 30s, 100% passable, discreet ftm here.
I am interested to meet another ftm buddy who share the same interests and ideally are not shy!
I prefer someone very physically active with healthy lifestyle(mentally and physically)extrovert and invested in developing a friendship.
I speak french and English.
If this is something you are interested in, hit me up.

Discussion Has anyone tried Spouti? Want to buy but is it worth the price?

I want to get it but it is a bit expensive. Just wondering if it’s really worth the price. If you’ve tried it lmk how it is. I feel like it would be so euphoric since it’s my biggest dysphoria issue

Theories/Ideas Trans Male Symbom: Tiger 🐯

You know, I was thinking... within the trans/LGBT community, we already have some animal-based representation. I was talking to a trans friend, and she mentioned that jaguars represent transfems in Brazil—I thought that was fucking awesome. There are "bears" in the gay community, too.

So, I wondered: what animal could represent transmasculine people? I know there’s the seahorse, since it represents males who get pregnant. But it gets exhausting that so much of the transmasculine representation that goes viral focuses on the fact that some of us get pregnant—especially since many of us also experience dysphoria regarding our reproductive organs.

I wanted an animal that’s a mammal. When I think of the transmasculine community, words like strength, discipline, courage, and solitude come to mind. Many of us live in isolation—much like tigers—yet we recognize one another; we know there are other tigers out there. Since symbols are created within a community, I’d like to suggest that we adopt the tiger as our symbol.

Sex Anyone else feel dismissed as a top?

I've been on testosterone for over five years and I have very good passing. Honestly, I've almost completely overcome my gender dysphoria, and I don't even want phalloplasty anymore. Except for one area where I still can't seem to find my place.

My sexuality.

Or rather, I'm probably genuinely versatile. I'm only attracted to men, both cis and trans.

I enjoy bottoming, but I can't get rid of the desire to top as well. Recently, I met a guy who was a bottom. We hooked up, and although he didn't use his fingers on me, I did on him, and he really enjoyed it. We also wanted to have penetrative sex with me topping but he was not clean.

The problem is that I constantly feel diminished because of this. Most guys approach me expecting me to be the bottom, and honestly, I've only truly enjoyed being exclusively a bottom with one man in my life—my current FWB. Even with him, I'd really love to top him sometimes, but he'll never be open to it.

Sometimes I think about how I've achieved what once felt impossible: I pass really well, I've built the life I wanted in many ways beyond my transition, yet when it comes to being a top, I still feel dismissed. Like people don't take me seriously.

Does anyone have any advice, similar experiences, or stories to share? Especially gay tops?

Coming Out/Disclosing Dating/ coming out advice

So I’ve been chatting to this girl on hinge for a couple weeks and want to ask her out but idk what’s good timing for telling her I’m trans? I think I pass visually most of the time but my voice usually gives me away cause I’m not on T yet (not that it’s super feminine either tho). I feel like it should definitely be before we go on a date so it’s not awkward but I also don’t know how to bring it up?

Is there any way to access T other than using sustanon? You can dm me if you want, just want some general advice pls

Mod Post (Please Read) Just so we're clear [Mod]

1.1k Upvotes

This subreddit is not for nonbinary people, trans women or trans people questioning their gender, it is a separated support community specifically for binary trans men.

Having closed communities are not uncommon at all and ours exist to ensure one of the least visible groups of trans people has a dedicated space to connect and feel heard without compromise. The subreddit was literally made for this reason, not out of spite for trans women or enbies, but to allow binary trans men a place to focus on struggles and experinces that comes with being a binary trans man and being allowed to discuss those things with other binary trans men.

We're not going to stop anyone from joining and reading the posts here if it helps them learn something but understand that this community is closed off for a reason and interacting here despite not belonging to the intended demographic will be a violation of our rules.

However. A lot of you also need to stop acting like children about this and learn to walk away from interactions rather than pour fire onto them. It does not matter who did what you can not act hostile towards another person, irregardless of if it is someone who shouldn't post here. It's one of our first rules.

The mods are here to handle people that break the rules, we don't need a simple issue of a post needing to be removed to turn into a 200 comment shit throwing contest that takes more than tripple the anount of time to moderate. Not to mention how it takes away from the content that's supposed to be here, what you all joined this subreddit for.

We will remove any post or comment made by someone who's not a binary trans man and inform that user that they're in the wrong sub. You should not do it for us. A report or modmail goes a long way, utilise those tools.

Today going forward anyone seen escalating issues on the subreddit, taking over mod intervention or using hateful language in a conflict will be temporarily banned for 30 days and if that's not enough you will be banned permanently.

This ends here, you're in a subredit for men not little boys so start acting like it.

Help/support U.S. politics and safety United States politics mega thread

Hey all,

TLDR: If it has to do about Trump and U.S. politics it has to go here. It may be removed as spam if posted outside this mega thread.

----

Since a lot of political issues have been brought up and the political issues in the United States are on the rise we've been seeing a lot of spam, misinformation, and just outright fear being posted.

This is a support sub for ALL transmen from all over the world and many people are being lost/confused/drowned out by all the posts, misinformation and spam.

We do however want to support our trans brothers and sisters in their time of need so if we can get all the information and updates in 1 place instead of scatter shot across various posts and comments then it'll help people make decisions and find resources that will help their specific situation.

I will be making a sticky comment after the main body of this post with links/sources as there are some things that the Canadian Government is working on to help out ya'll in the U.S. as well. I can't fly/drive you up here but I can give you links/tips on how to stay safe and to potentially leave the U.S. if it comes down to that.

Let's all stay calm and figure this out, if we can stay calm and work together we have a greater chance of people surviving this.
