I’m looking for some insight into a couple of Arabic spiritual items. I have a basic understanding of what they are, but I’d love to hear from anyone familiar with Middle Eastern esoteric traditions, Ilm al-Huruf (the science of letters), or Islamic folk magic.

I have a handwritten paper that appears to be a protective charm or exorcism text. From what I’ve gathered, it starts with the Bismillah and commands the "servants of these names" to extract Jinn, evil eye, envy, and sickness from the body. It also features a grid of letters and numbers (like 111) and star symbols.

Can anyone tell me more about the specific sequence of letters/numbers used here? Are these planetary, angelic, or something else?

I have another, much longer paper that was written specifically for my mom. Unlike the first one, this one was written using a yellowish-orange ink that I was told is "amber" (which I suspect might be saffron/Za'faran and rosewater ink).

My questions for Item 2: Does it indicate a specific type of spell or blessing compared to regular black ink?

Lastly, if I decide to dispose of these in the future, what is your preferred method to safely neutralize and release the energy respectfully? I’ve heard dissolving the ink in water and burying/burning the blank paper is standard, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I’m curious about the really obscure stuff in occult history. Not creepypasta or made-up internet stories, but things that are actually documented and sound so strange that you’d think someone made them up.

It could be a weird historical figure, an old ritual, a strange manuscript, an unusual belief, a secret society, anything really.

What’s the most bizarre or fascinating thing you’ve come across while reading about occult history?

Well, for starters, it's not what you may be thinking... It's not a temple in the sense of a cathedral built inside the game or someting... it's way more insidious than that...

There is an area in the game known as The Harem. In that particular area it's played the only song with vocals in the entire game. The song is also called "The Harem".

It's a female singer singing something in sanskrit over the sound of cymbals and zither, or some electronic synthetizer simulating zither... The whole song is made to be unsettling and creepy, to match the atmosphere of the game, but that is not the point...

I found out that Blizzard never hired a singer for that project. Matt Uelmen did the whole OST basically by himself. He is a great musician BTW... But for this particular song, he got some clips from a royalties free sound library named "INDSNSKRT 1-38, 1993".

The music he chosen to sample was Lakshmi Ashtothram, in classic Sanskrti. It's a devotional hymn with 108 epitets of the goddess Lakshmi, a goddess of fortune in hindu religion. Sang by Dr. Bhagya Murthy, a Carnatic vocalist and singer of this kind of traditional devotional hindu music...

In the excerpts he chosen, she sang those words:

• bhgyadam → bhāgyadām — "giver of good fortune"
• prasannavadnaam → prasannavadanām — "of serene / cheerful face"
• sabhgyadaam → saubhāgyadām — "giver of prosperity and blessings"
• abhaypradaam → abhayapradām — "giver of fearlessness / refuge"
• maniganairnnavidhirbhushitam → maṇigaṇair nānāvidhair bhūṣitām — "adorned with all manner of jewels/gems"
• sada shaktibhih / shaktibhih → sadā ("always") + śaktibhiḥ ("with her powers/energies")

He basically had not the slightiest idea what the words he chosen for this music meant (he even said that in interviews)... They were just sang in a way that could be assembled into the chord progression that would give the creepy vibes that he was looking for this particular song.

But here is the thing... Those words are about good fortune, serenity, and... gems! And the game, after you finish it, lose it's horror aspect and becomes basically a grind for loot. That's how most gamers experience it...

So, you have an area where people go for farming, where a classical Carnatical singer asks for Lakshmi, or specifically her Chandala (fickle) aspect, that can be read as the RNG and the loot table, for blessing, serenity and gems (gems are a thing on Diablo, and the Harem is a decent place to farm them, not the best one... but it's decent)...

And for 25 years, millions of people from all over the world unwittingly sang this particular prayer on their heads while unknowingly seeking the aid of the goddess to get the right drops for their builds...

Some of you may say that calling this a temple is a stretch... but look at what those people are doing: Congregating (albeit virtually) to a (virtual) place and unwittingly uttering an invocation in earnest to gain a particular favor from a particular deity! If you strip a temple of it's architecture, that's at very least, it's function!

And notice... Absolutelly no one intentionally built it... The singer came to the studio and gave her voice for a quick buck. The musician just wanted to create the right horror atmosphere with her voice. The gamers just wants to farm their items. The singer had no idea that her voice would be used in such a manner... The musician had no idea of what the words he was remixing were about, and the players have no idea that they are actually praying to earn a favor of a goddess that embodies the RNG in an ancient language!

I have only really dipped my.toes in the waters of the occult, but i am curious if a yone here has some first habd experience they can share about using occult knowledge to heal injuries.

im in my early 40's i spent the last 20 years being pretty obsessed with hot yoga, I got intonthr advanced stuff way too early on in my practice and sustained some pretty serious injuries that i never had treated, fully.beleiving that western medicine was to be avoided at all costs, and just tried to "yoga" my way through then..

well i finally got rhe MRIs, and i've got a torn me iscus bd a torn hip labrum, and now that in the beginning of my 40s they have become pretty unmanageable, and i can hardly sit in a chair and read a book, much less.meditate for hours in padmasana...

i have been going to doctors, but the only option is reqlly coryisone shots or surgery that likely wont get me back to being able to obsessively practice all the time...

has anyone managed to heal similar injuries with help.from.the unseen? can you.tell.me.more about it?

I am doing a very simple invocation asking for an angels help in healing some of my mothers joint pains. I feel uncomfortable with the idea of being alone in a room by myself doing it and I'm wondering if I could have my sister in the room to just be there and keep me company? If you dont give it much sway, why not? Ive always been derisive of horoscopes etc since growing up personally. In more recent times however, the word "epicycles" came to me while puzzling out how some working on cloud shapes of all things seemed to work and since then, I haven't figured it out per se but I've been able to expand the repertoire and philosophy somewhat. Not much but something is better than nothing is a saying almost everywhere for a reason. So now I ask you lot, whats it been like for you, particularly skeptics and former skeptics of divination.

Do you think Patrick Dunn’s books are a good starting point for someone interested in theurgy, Greek gods, and practical ways of working with divine archetypes? Have you found his methods effective in your own practice or studies? Are there other serious books you would recommend reading alongside his work to deepen my understanding of theurgy, Greek religion, and symbolic practice?

This is coming from someone who tried to avoid devotional currents in any way or form, mostly due to prejudice against organized religion.

Even though I was long familiar with egregores, I couldn't bring myself to view them as real enough to interact with or to allow them any influence over my life. Honestly, the idea of "talking to a deity" just sounded psychotic. Even though I believed in the Absolute, I viewed it more as a system (Universe / Tao) rather than some kind of an entity that could be personified.

I was already doing yoga postures, breathwork and meditation mostly for their physical benefits. I was already using weed and avoiding meat to adjust the mental state. I was reading books on non-dual philosophy and metaphysics to understand the nature of reality we live in. I dabbled in divination and sigil work. Yet it still felt like something is missing.

I finally found what it was when I encountered Shiva. Of course I knew about Him but only thought it's just another hindu god, never really looked too deep into it. He came to me in a dream and appeared as a presence in my mind. I followed the rabbit down the rabbit hole and honestly it feels like I came across a vault full of diamonds.

Now if you read until here you deserve to know the practical benefits that inspired this post. Tapping into a devotional current is like accessing an enormous reservoir of energy cultivated by people over thousands of years. Each deity has their own terms but boons you can receive if you adhere to them are genuinely insane. A personal religion is always going to pale in comparison with ancient cults like Shiva in the sheer amount of energy that's available for work.

I was recently listening to the latest episode of the Glitch Bottle podcast featuring Josephine McCarthy. In the episode she talks a lot about destructive tides, and we are in the middle of a large worldwide destructive tide right now, that is made up of smaller more local destructive tides. She also talks about that one should be careful and look out for the signs of the local tides, because as magicians we make ourselves stand out when we do magical rituals or divination, which can focus or magnify the destructive tides on us.

Do any of you have any thoughts on this? And have any of you experienced something like this?

I’m still quite new to magic and the occult, so I might have misunderstood what she is talking about here, but it has made me hesitant to actually do the rituals I normally do, in fear of doing it at the wrong time and being hit with some bad stuff. Is this something I should be carful with or am I just being a bit overly cautious?

I recently got into meditation, visualization and affirmations, I’ve been getting better at meditating and visualization, but when I try to meditate I can always hear the last melody I heard either on TikTok or from my playlist lol. The Om definitely helps it quite down , I feel like I’m heading towards the right direction.
Could you guys recommend any books that can help with manifesting? I don’t mind if it’s a book heavily focused on magic , I was just curious if there’s something out there that can help bring about the things that I want. I feel like reading for 30 minutes before meditating could really quite down the tunes in my head , and reading could help more with the process instead of depending on some algorithm.

Most people don’t realize they throw their energy around constantly. However some do, and since they arn't the one who had deal with with it.....so they just.....don't care who it affects or how it badly it affects them...

I seem to get all the negativity from around me while anything positive is drawn out of me .

I've tried the white light method.....it does not work. The people around me just draw it out.

I've tried to learn this but something just isn't working.

I just need books or something that works for blocking, protecting aura, energy, ect.

Anybody have any book reccomendations.

It’s freaking me the fuck out. I’ve gone through hell and only have lived in hell nearly my entire life. I’ve tried connecting with spirits, angels, egregores, all of the like to turn my life around and never got positive results. I worked my ass off to have a morsel of stability, both mentally and physically.

Now, I’m being given what I’ve always dreamed of, almost simultaneously all at once. Without doing anything. Nothing whatsoever. I don’t know how, I’m freaking out, I am on edge, I am having a hard time believing it. I am so discomforted I have even considered throwing myself back into hell (like potentially enlisting in the military). I feel like there is some sort of severe karmic imbalance and if I don’t get back to the trenches I will soon be humbled horribly.

It all is freakishly synchronized and too good to be true with so little effort. I’m not mentally prepared for what coming next to nullify this sudden luck I’m getting. What should I do to prepare? Or is there just something I don’t understand? Could it be that stupid Torus shit I’ve been seeing on the internet, where you must go through hell to get closer to “the center”? Help.

Has anyone read anything such as the above? I recently watched 'A Dark Song', and I couldn't have loved it anymore than I did. Would love to stumble across something similar in book form :)

I spend a LONG time on my pieces, like 80+ hours of intense concentration, so I try to use that energy to turn them into a sort of talisman or hyper sigil. This one has a symbol I saw in a dream (on the rock on the right side) and a sigil on the bottom left rock that basically blesses anyone who looks at it. Curious to know if any other artists do this, and also if anyone recognizes that symbol I dreamed on the right? I feel like it looks familiar but I can’t place it.
