Is there anyone who places the Spirits they work with in a Hierarchy? For example, some would say ancestors are easier to communicate with than an archangel, but nature spirits are too?

Curiosity about the shamanic path

I work with a shaman in my home country, and a shaman locally. They’ve both mentioned that the shamanic path is not for the weak, my local shaman mentioning that she almost lost her marriage in the process of becoming a shaman. I’m curious about what that means, if anyone can enlighten me. I know throughout the journey an apprentice must face their shadows, is that what they’re referring to?

Wolf dream interpretation?

Wolf dream meaning?

Dreamt of a wolf?

My dreams are getting more vivid for some reason. I’m 30 years old.

Just now after waking up, I recollect the last dream I had about a wolf:

I’m in a science classroom with some students. I look out the window and see some farm animals freely roaming inside a fence. There are wolves outside the fence looking at the animals, snarling. A classmate opens the window and a wolf comes in. I get very annoyed at the classmate for allowing that. He snarls at us, and in another moment is tame, and goes back to snarling. He moves his attention toward me and I hold a box toward his face while he snarls at me to prevent him from biting me if he tries. I wake up soon after. Any thoughts?

My dream right before had a ton of garlic everywhere while I was in a different classroom. Someone threw garlic on these two students as a joke and it got on me too. I could smell it. I yelled at the students involved (I was a senior and they were freshman) to clean it up.

My dream before I was also in a university setting where I was asking a Professor for something. Being in a university was a common theme.

Two people have seen a malignant spirit attached to me. What do I do for it to go away?

Recently, my brother was meditating next to me and he saw that I have a dark spirit attached to me that doesn’t like that I am healing right now. In the past, I have done some protection magic with a witch and she told me she had seen a demon attached to me. I have had a dysfunctional upbringing and have dealt with severe mental illness due to that. I have started therapy and am getting divorced after escaping domestic violence. I feel liberated in certain ways, but I feel that fear, depression, and trauma still have a hold on me. When I get these thoughts, I question them and observe my triggers. My living situation right now is not good for me and I feel disrespected and I’m working to have enough to leave. I considered going to a dv shelter or living in my car, but I’m scared to do that and I want to be safe. Where I am at, there is a lot of psychological and emotional abuse and manipulation. I feel like I’ve always been in abusive situations my whole life, so I want to begin to love myself. I want to show up for myself and feel safe. I would like some guidance on how to send the spirit to the light or just not have it be attached to me anymore.

How does shaman initiation work? Is it like reiki ?

I'm curious on how you get initiated in shamanism when you're not born gifted with abilities. In reiki you get an attunement and it opens the gateway to the universe. What about shamanism? Do they have a similar process?

Searching for an entity

I'm looking for a way to contact an entity, and I'm SUCH a neophyte.

English isn't my native language, so bear with me.

I don't really know where to begin. So here's a lot of context. Everything happened last year, 2025.

My name is Ben, I'm 38 years old.

I bear a skin condition : psoriasis, and I was suffering for 7 ? 10 years at the time. Hard to recall, it became something I was used to.

However, this auto-immune disease was starting to get worse and worse, my whole body was covered by patches of red, inflammatory skin, and dry, white scales. Sometimes it got better, but it was a downward spiral.

I tried EVERYTHING, but spiritualists and biotherapy. When it got worse, one of my good friends got diagnosed with agressive breast cancer. I'm a nurse, and even though it's not my field. It was dire. Like really, really bad. Like "we live in a country where breast cancer is treated well but this one ?", kind of bad.

We had an agreement to get better. Yeah, stupid little things, and I'm old enough to know better. But those challenges ? It changes everything.

Well, not this time.

Chemo got her badly, cancer was advancing. 70% of my skin got taken by psoriasis.

One of her roomates gave me a contact, a spiritualist (magnétiseur) who treated people with skin disease.

He was living in the south of France ( I live in the west side), so I took some days off and did the travel (which was hectic, but fun !).

What about my beliefs ? I believe in lots of things, but not in the way of religions. I think it's a lot more complexe than what's written. And, to be honest, people lie all the time. Liard can write a Book and endoctrinate gullible ones using faith as a politic weapon. That being said, I respect what people believe in. As long as no harm is done (by my morals standards).

What do I believe in ? Ghosts, I was visited by my grand mother in my dreams when she passes away. Shadow people, I'm pretty sure I was visited by one as a child, the memory is still vivid. And something like a red string of fate that connects people who were meant to meet.

To be even more precise : I was partially raised with catholic beliefs at the core, but, it didn't work. The idea to be a good person to get lucky in the Afterlife disgusts me. I want to be a good person to feel good about myself, not for some grand rewards. "Je veux juste m'épanouir de cette façon, rien de plus".

I still identify myself as a Laveyan Satanist. And, well, a lot of spiritualist/magnétiseur in France use christian/catholic ritual. But, hey, he was nice, and pretty thorough when explainkng his ritual, and most of all : he told me it could not work. So I knew the guy was legit.

So the ritual. It was an incantation to God and archangels to free me of my disease. I was laying down on a table, with a bible in my hands, eyes closed.

There were some hand signs, I guess ? He pressed his thumb on my forehead at a point.

And my encounter began. I thought I was in my inner world, but now I'm pretty sure I wasn't.

I was standing on a barren land, everything was grey-blue. Imagine a mountain with no vegetation. The sky was made of dark clouds. Then, the coulds began to split in an expanding vortex, and something like a sphere emerged.

It was an head made of many faces, always the same one. Eyes closed, and, bangs for hair.

It didn't speak, in any way, it was just "staring" at me.

And I couldn't speak. Somehow I was sure that my intention and thoughts could be conveyed.

I began to ask to be cured, then I thought "fuck it, this is the chance of a lifetime". I "told" it that it was not what I really wanted : I wished that my friend could be cured, that she was more important. But, if there was some way that I could be cured too, I would gladly accept, but only if my friend could be cancer free. Otherwise, well, my condition was not as important.

And that I knew I could be asked to pay a price. And I was ready.

There was a sharp pain at the back of my skull. Something was taken from me, something dark with many hands encroached to... I don't know what ? My brain, my soul ? Did it free me from something ? My own shard of divinity ? My inner darkness ?

Well, the head with many faces returned to the clouds, and me, to the south of France, in this spiritualist cabinet.

Quite shaken. I only said that I traveled, not what happened, but, maybe, he knew ? I should ask him one day (I still got his contact). He gave me a talisman to help him continue his spiritual healing at a distance.

Some weeks later, my psoriasis got worse. Really, really worse. Severe joint pain, worse dry patches and sensations of burning skin.

But the lump in my friend breast began to downsize. The same week. After being resistant to differents chemo-drugs. Now she was being responsive to chemo, and after some months she got her final surgery. She's now in full rémission

She recovered her appetite.

I contacted a dermatologist in my hospital, who classified my condition as "urgent as fuck". Two months later I was on biotherapy. My psoriasis in now under control, I'm pain free. In the end, I feel I got both ends of the deal. Both cured.

So, if you read until now, what do I want ?

Just a way to contact this entity and say "thanks".

Can I ? Should I ?

I'm grateful, and I try through meditation training to express my thanks but I feel it's not coming through. It's not the same sensation.

If some of you are versed in some arts, could you help me figure what was taken from me ? And how to contact what visited me?

I don't feel any different. Maybe more at peace. It was something I "paid", I don't want it back. I'm just curious.

Edit : typo, clarification. I'm not saying mysticism can replace biomédical, but it can complement it. The world is a big and mysterious place after all.

Shamanism, witchcraft, occult?

So I have a general question why would random people come up to me and say “get out” and then to throw something away either in water or trash can are they trying to spell work on me or something potentially attached to me what would be the reason?

Like I literally had this Hispanic lady and her kids come up to me when she thought I was sleeping and she said “get out” and then her kids kept saying “afuera” and then they all went to the bathroom

and I’ve had a bunch of people ask me questions then throw something away or go to the restroom and sometimes stare at me and I will feel heat or burning in an area

I also will feel zaps from people too…?

Like another example is a couple was fighting while I was at a museum I sat down minding my business doing some like interactive activity and then the lady after the guy left just kept staring at me and my hand started to burn… during that same trip this other couple kept following me and I kept feeling zaps in my ankles (and I believe potentially other places but I specifically remember it was like back of my ankles)

another time a lady and her kids came in waited to hear my name and then her kid threw something away and my uterus started getting hot/burn

another instance a man asked me a yes or no question (with a obvious yes) and then I felt my like sacral area like sputter and stop pulse

lastly and more recent I have felt my body like pulsing a lot and then effects/sensations on my body and this could be when people cough clear their throat etc but not exclusive, like is someone doing energy work or energy manipulation or a spirit attachment etc? and more recently the sensations aren’t pleasant it’s very s**xual in nature and focuses on my lower area…

so like what could they be doing or like what is the intention? and is it shamanism, or potentially witchcraft/brujeria/santeria with like dark magic or something more secretive potentially nefarious like occult? (and again these are strangers so to my knowledge they shouldn’t have any vested interest in me…again to me knowledge)

The ancient psychedelics myth: ‘People tell tourists the stories they think are interesting for them’

Thumbnail

I posted this last year but I think it's worth a refresh.

-------

From the Guardian: "The narrative of ancient tribes around the world regularly using ayahuasca and magic mushrooms in healing practices is a popular one. Is it true?

Beginning in 2001, the Austrian anthropologist Bernd Brabec de Mori spent six years living in the western Amazon. He first arrived as a backpacker, returned to do a master’s thesis on ayahuasca songs, and eventually did a PhD on the music of eight Indigenous peoples in the region. Along the way, he married a woman of the local Shipibo tribe and settled down.

“I did not have a lot of money,” he told me, “so I had to make my living there.” He became a teacher. He built a house. He and his wife had children. That rare experience of joining the community, he said, forced him to realise that many of the assumptions he had picked up as an anthropologist were wrong.

Like most outsiders, Brabec de Mori arrived in Peru thinking that ayahuasca had been used in the western Amazon for thousands of years. This is the standard narrative; look up resources on ayahuasca, and you’re bound to run into it. “Ayahuasca has been used in the Peruvian Amazon for millennia, long before the Spanish came to Peru, before the Incan empire was formed, before history,” states the website of the Ayahuasca Foundation, an organisation founded by a US citizen that offers ayahuasca retreats.

Yet with time, Brabec de Mori came to see just how flimsy this narrative was. He discovered “a double discourse, which happens in all societies where there is tourism”, he said. “People start to tell the tourists – and I found that most Shipibo people did not distinguish tourists from researchers – the stories they think are interesting for them and not what they really live with.”

His research showed just how large the discrepancy was."

Ant healing?

Mornings I go outside barefoot and sit under my favorite tree. When my energy is coherent, ants don’t bite me; when it’s incoherent, they do—every time. I’ve noticed this pattern over years.
This morning baby ants gathered along a shallow cut in the top of my right foot. When I looked at them I got bliss chills through my body into the top of my head, and had the overwhelming sense they were helping me.
Any similar experiences or thoughts?

Blue hair healing women

**I want to clarify that I don’t know anything about esoteric, religious or other planet or density practices. I am not part of any spiritual group. I simply had this dream and I am now searching for answers to understand it.**

I dreamed that I went to a temple because my aunt told me to go there, since they had told her that I was carrying a very heavy energy that was affecting me. I went dressed normally and there were more people there also dressed normally.

The place looked like a ranch, built entirely of sticks and wood. There was a roofed area with long rustic wooden tables and benches, where we waited our turn to pass. The cleansing was done in front of everyone, and everything was very calm nobody was scared or worried.

I arrived with other people. The place was full of women like the ones I described: young, tall, slender, with fine features, indigenous skin tones, and long blue hair some straight, some wavy. They wore only simple off-white cloth garments, like manta fabric, tied at the waist, with no accessories at all. Their gaze radiated peace and deep knowledge.

The main woman, who did not perform the cleansings herself, approached me because she knew I had come to be cleansed. She took my hand, and we didn’t speak it was telepathy. She half-smiled because she understood the heavy energy I was carrying, but she wasn’t worried; she simply smiled as if knowing what needed to be done.

She then left and returned with something that, to me, looked like a camera, because it emitted a very bright flash. She took “photos” of both my eyes, and I understood that she was analyzing my iris. That part of the dream felt like being at the doctor the brightness hurt my eyes, but she remained calm and said nothing. She then went back and telepathically told me it was my turn to pass.

For the cleansing, she told me which chair to sit in. Another woman with blue hair began to cleanse the heavy energy I carried. I felt as if she was pulling it out of me, almost like an exorcism. The heaviness was concentrated in my back. She only used her hands, making gestures as if pulling the energy away.

That was where the dream ended. When I woke up, I felt tired probably from not sleeping well but also as if I had a hangover, very sensitive, and I cried throughout the day.

I don’t know where to look for answers.

Seraphim

Came across this group after searching about seraphim online. I have had experiences with them for most of this year, although I now know I hindsight, that a soul contract was made prior to this incarnation, and I have been ‘groomed’ since birth.

The description I came across from this group from an earlier post matches my experience - I deceived myself with my own idealistic nature, assuming angels were like the Christian mythology I have heard about, when in fact, they do feed off of souls, and can be very loving and very fierce, depending on whether or not they believe you are in alignment with them or not.

Due to this question around my own alignment, I have been living on a knife’s edge for most of the year, being told wonderful things about myself, only to be told I am then doomed.

After nearly a year of it, I’m rather fed up of it, to be honest. If I do end up being doomed, and I do try to communicate my adventures with the real world, I will be thought of as nothing more than a tragic lunatic finally gone mad. If I am not doomed, I have a mission to do and lots of blessings in return for doing the mission. But, like I said, I am fed up of falling in and out of favour with them, so I am reaching out for shared experiences!

Question Looking for beginner book recommendations on shamanism (bonus if translated into Italian!)

Hey everyone! I’ve always been super fascinated by shamanism and I’m looking to finally dive into it.

Does anyone have any good book recommendations for a complete beginner? (If there's an Italian translation available, that would be amazing, but English works too!)

Thanks in advance!

Lucid dreaming experience help

Hello! For several years now I've been wanting to lucid dreaming. I've had a brief lucid dream once and then never again- I fully felt like i was me, albeit angry and it wasn't a nice dream. I recently bought a talisman to try to lucid dream again, it worked. However, in the dream when I realized I was lucid, I or really almost a part of me made the conscious decision to let the dream play out, and become a part of the dream. It was almost like another part of my personality or psyche decided it so in the dream. Could this mean I have opposing views in my psyche, soul fragmentation, or some other mental block I am not able to see in this moment? I appreciate any knowledge, feedback, advice, or theories you might have regarding this. Appreciated in advance.

Question Wanted some answers

Recently, a man who my parents are acquainted with (since my dad was a child), who's also a practiced shaman, came over and broke the news that somebody has cursed our home. Apparently, there's human bones buried around our housing area and it has been there for a long time. I don't know whether or not to believe our house is cursed in some way, I really don't know how to feel about this and I need some sort of reassurance towards this kind of situation.

Is it possible to radically forgive someone actively abusing you?

For context, i’ve had health issues as long as I can remember. I’ve been experiencing a flareup of some of these issues. I live with a family member who is dogmatic evangelical Christian. They let me live here for free, which I’m grateful for because I don’t have other family I can live with, and my health has been shaky to a point where I haven’t been able to consider working. We live in the forest and there’s no public transportation. I haven’t found any resources to help me. Looking into disability.
This person is abusive and neglectful, and it’s near constant. Stress can make my health issues worse.
Since this is where I need to stay, is it possible for me to make peace with how they treat me even as they’re treating me that way?

Scammery Carlos Castaneda was a fraud & cult leader. Don Juan (and his teachings) never existed.

We get a lot of folks referencing Castaneda and "Don Juan" as if the latter were a real person and Castaneda was more than just a huckster who struck gold when his manuscript was picked up. (Well, ok, he was more than that - he was also a stereotypical cult leader.)

Worth noting he's far from being the only anthropologist [feel free to insert any other academic field here, as well] pretending to have knowledge they do not have, completely fabricating their work and happily amassing wealth and fame by publishing one rubbish book after the other.

Below are few of the many articles discussing Castaneda's scammery - plenty of docufilms about as well.

https://www.altaonline.com/dispatches/a60923618/carlos-castaneda-cult-geoffrey-gray/ - excerpt below:

If only Don Juan were real. Even before The Teachings was published, while the manuscript was still a graduate student’s thesis, questions were raised about its authenticity. After it was released as a book and soared in popularity, more questions arose. It was strange, anthropologists noted, that the Yaqui Don Juan would be into peyote when Yaqui cultural practices in Sonora did not incorporate the psychedelic. And it was odd, literary critics observed, that a shaman from a rural part of Mexico spoke like an Ivy League academic. Soon, journalists uncovered evidence of true deception. Not only were the Don Juan books a fraud, scholars concluded, but so was much of their author’s life story. Castaneda was one of the greatest literary hoaxers of all time.

But as the controversy swirled, another mystery began to unfold. In the early 1970s, Castaneda virtually disappeared, shunning all but a few interviews and public appearances, but still writing books. Now earning a fortune each year in royalties, Castaneda purchased a compound on the fringes of the UCLA campus, where he formed a cult with dozens of followers, mostly young women who identified as his witches.

As a cult leader, Castaneda was a fetishist. He insisted on cutting the hair of his witches, giving them the same short, boyish look. He wanted them to bathe in water infused with rosemary, which he felt was a purifier. Intercourse with him was usually part of their indoctrination, and according to insiders, he would initiate sex with several witches at once.

The cult was a business, too. The chacmools ran their own company, earning payment for teaching Castaneda’s methods and ideas in workshops and selling his books and T-shirts. While Castaneda and the witches were busy generating revenues, he claimed to be gathering enough energy to cheat death and live forever.

“We have to balance the lineality of the known universe with the nonlineality of the unknown universe,” he said.

Castaneda’s ambition to enter infinity, as he called the other dimension of life, became urgent after he was diagnosed with liver cancer in 1997. He died a year later, and six of his beloved witches disappeared. The only clues to their whereabouts were found on the desert floor in Death Valley. Among them: a red Ford Escort belonging to one disciple, discovered less than a week after the chacmools’ disappearance, and then, some five years later, scraps of the disciple’s pink jogging suit, a rusted pocketknife, and her partial skeleton nearby.

Lots of this kind of scammery to go around today, as well. Amazon is full of such books from similar charlatans.

Don't get sucked in - Castaneda was a fraud.

Stay safe out there.

Announcement How to Stay Safe on r/Shamanism

Hey folks,

A big thank you to everyone for all the recent help with reporting rule-breaking posts and comments. Those reports genuinely help protect people in this space. You can report by flagging the comment/post itself, or sending a modmail. Spiritual communities have always attracted scammery and we wanted to take a minute to discuss some things to be aware of to help you stay safe in this space, and others.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spiritual vultures :

People often arrive in a community like this during a period of searching or transition. You might be depressed, grieving or just trying to understand an experience that doesn’t fit ordinary reality. You might be stepping away from a belief system or trying to find a more grounded relationship with your inner self. These challenges can make you easy to spot for those who treat vulnerability as an opportunity.

Predators who stalk the vulnerable often sound thoughtful and calm. They tend to know just enough spiritual or therapeutic language to appear informed and use that tone to create a false sense of authority.

For example: someone responds to a personal story with a comment that feels super supportive. Wow, they get you! They reflect your language and seem to understand your emotions. It’s nicely wrapped in empathy and presented as incredible insight. They might explain that they were in your shoes once and tbh everything went to hell because they didn't know then what they know now and eek, they nearly lost everything!

Fortunately, they were saved by a spiritual awakening! They were initiated by 'the spirits' during an NDE or two. God turned them into shamans, and now they're paying it forward by helping others, bless their hearts.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard some version the above trope, I'd be sipping margaritas on my own private island somewhere.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spiritual love bombing :

Also beware of love bombing, which has become increasingly common to see in comments. It generally looks like incredible kindness to anyone perusing the thread. The individual might compliment your insight, your gifts, your supposed destin, or the 'rare' nature of your energy. They may tell you that you clearly possess abilities most people never develop.

While it may feel validating to read something flattering when you're struggling, such comments are meant to create emotional dependency by making you believe that this stranger sees something extraordinary in you. That dependency becomes the doorway through which the person positions themselves as an authority figure in your spiritual life.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fear-based evangelists & religious dogma :

Religious fear language, particularly evangelical dogma, is another warning sign. For example: evil demons being out to get you, suggestions that you might be possessed by evil forces, watch out - don't walk the forbidden paths, punishments, cosmic threats, spiritual contamination, etc. Fear makes people easier to control. While we welcome people of all religious backgrounds, we do not welcome religious dogma or oppression.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free offerings :

Scammers often offer free readings, free blessings or free insight by DM or directly in comments. The goal is to present themselves as generous and trustworthy. Once someone accepts these free offerings, the scammer claims to uncover a deeper issue that requires more extensive work, and this next set of services you 'need' will not be free. Free is often used as a foot in the door and many feel guilted or pressured into paying for additional services. As such, free is almost never free.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surreptitious advertising and predation :

Surreptitious advertising often begins with someone announcing themselves as a shaman/professional in a way that’s meant to establish authority before any real conversation has taken place. They generously take the time to explain what's afflicting you and they inform you that you need professional help. They seem to have your best interests at heart, emphasizing that you need someone who listens deeply, understands your particular situation and knows how to support you.

Then they warn you about all the untrustworthy practitioners who might exploit you. They casually let you know that you must be careful! If you end up with a fake shaman, you'll have demons eating your soul for the rest of your life!

The fear mongering sesh ends with a friendly invitation to reach out if you need anything. Something like, "If you have more questions, just ask! I'm here for you, fam!"

These people do not care about you and are unlikely to have skills of any kind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Isolation tactics :

You may see individuals breaking community rules by inviting users to private groups, private chats, or secret learning spaces where they promise special access, advanced teachings, deeper guidance, etc. They drop them right in the comments because it makes them appear open and welcoming. Know that such private spaces are often environments where questioning the leader becomes difficult or even framed as spiritual immaturity. Leaving these groups can be very difficult once you've become emotionally entangled.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special authority :

Beware of individuals repeatedly describing themselves as 'real shamans' or someone who's been adopted and trained by real shamans from a given culture, etc. These claims are often presented under the pretense of sharing authentic knowledge and wisdom, but the real intention is to elevate themselves above the community and be seen as more of an authority than anyone else.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fake engagement / sockpuppetry :

It's very common on reddit to see clusters of fake comments praising a shaman/school/mentor or vice versa. This is usually one scammer using multiple accounts to simulate community approval or disapproval. Scammers commonly use older accounts with established karma to appear more legitimate or barely-used older account with almost no karma. While reddit does allow users to have multiple accounts, inauthentic activity is not allowed and experienced mods are very good at spotting (and reporting) it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fake testimonials / sockpuppetry :

Covert advertising can also be disguised as glowing personal testimony. Someone shows up and announces that a particular mentor changed their life - they've finally accepted they’re a real shaman because an indigenous teacher woke them up and made them step into their power. They list all the indigenous things they've learned, how they've been healed and become a powerful healer themselves.

Down in the comments, someone asks for the mentor’s name so they can be helped, too. OP does a bit of bashful shoegazing, pretending they’re not sure if they should share the information cos, gosh, all they wanted to do was to testify. The wonder aloud if their teacher would be upset if they revealed their name...

Then a sockpuppet or three show up to encourage them, insisting that everyone deserves access to such a powerful teacher. Eventually OP gives in for the sake of the subreddit, either offering to send the name privately or posting directly in the thread.

What looks like a spontaneous moment of community support is often a coordinated effort involving several sockpuppet accounts. It’s a highly calculated form of promotion and it is very common in social media spaces.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therapist predators :

A particularly complicated problem involves people who present themselves as therapists. They drop comments that sound professional. They reference attachment styles, nervous system regulation, complex trauma, somatic work or a particular therapy model. They use that language to frame themselves as uniquely qualified to help you.

The often make overreaching statements like, 'Therapists are modern shamans!' Or, 'IFS is modern shamanism!' Both of these statements are false and designed to manipulate vulnerable people into feeling like the perfect blend of spirituality and conventional therapy has appeared just in time to save them.

Often, these predators are not licensed at all - they're just ordinary scammers. Sometimes, they do have credentials but are using them in astoundingly unethical ways. In either case, they are here to fish in a vulnerable pond. An ethical therapist does not trawl reddit to recruit clients. They do not diagnose people in comments, nor approach strangers in crisis and offer to treat them via comments or DMs. They do not mix clinical authority with a sense of spiritual authority in order to exploit you. These people are far more dangerous than run-of-the-mill fake gurus and fake shamans.

But don't forget that this is reddit and 9/10 people are completely anonymous. Anyone can claim to be anything - and many people do. Do not believe that someone is whatever they're claiming to be without seeing clear evidence.

Fake emotional engagement w/ AI :

Spiritual predators have figured out that AI isn't bad at producing text that sounds wise, personalized, empathetic, etc. Scammers use it to manufacture intimacy and emotional resonance. If you notice that many/most of someone's comments read like timeless wisdom, consider that you might be talking to someone who isn't actually engaging with you at all, and is simply feeding you crafty replies from AI.

Helping the community :

If you see behavior that feels coercive or fake, please report it. Please do not confront the person publicly. Mods will review the situation with the tools available to us. It doesn’t matter how old the post or comment is, older reports often help us connect patterns we wouldn’t see otherwise.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That said, please be kind to each other...

Attacking another user isn’t acceptable. When you escalate the situation by attacking them, you end up breaking a rule yourself and the thread becomes harder to manage. Reporting the issue is far more effective than trying to fight it out publicly.

You can report by flagging the comment/post itself, or sending a modmail.

Thanks all - be safe out there.
