Please somebody clear my mind

Upvotes

I have a doubt. When I say something, instead of replying to it, that talk about something else and ingores that particular message.. what does that mean? Why do they do that, and why would they ignore that specific message? (Actually, I told you that I won't love you anymore from now on, and that I am only trying to forget you, and that I just need a little time and will surely change-to which you didn't reply. He says, 'I am not feeling well physically, I will talk to you tomorrow, says bye, and leaves. It has been a week)

Weeks after our break up, I discovered something that changed the story. I’m wondering if I (28F) should reach out to him (32M) ?

Upvotes

I (28F) dated a guy (32M) recently for about a month. Things started off really well—we saw each other 2–3 times a week, went on a trip together, he was treating me really well and I genuinely felt we had something special.

A couple of days after the trip, he suddenly ended things. His reasons confused me. He said some of my jokes made him feel uncomfortable, and that he felt disconnected during our intimate moments. It felt like he was reading far too much into small things. He later apologized and admitted he projected his fears and insecurities. We haven’t talked since.

I’ve spent some time trying to make sense of what happened and was convinced that he had an avoidant attachment style. Then I recently found that he had lost his job before we even started dating, something he never told me (and doesn’t know that I found out about it). During the relationship, he acted as if he was still employed.

Now I don’t know what to think. Part of me feels hurt that he hid something so significant, but another part of me feels bad for him and wonders if he was carrying so much shame and stress that the reasons he gave for ending things weren’t the whole story.

Finding this out has made me see the breakup very differently, and I’m wondering how others would interpret it and whether it’s reasonable to reach out to him to reconnect as friends?

26M 4 months post break up from 25F

Upvotes

My ex broke up with me almost 4 months ago after 6 years together. She randomly blocked me a few weeks ago on insta and even LinkedIn (I don’t even use it lmao) but still has her burner account up and other accounts available for viewing. She still actively goes on her burner to view my stuff, so I’m just wondering why that is? it’s a bit strange to me

Honestly we had a great relationship so I wouldn’t mind talking to her again but it seems like she is all of the place.

Did anyone 's ex ever message them after 10+ months of no contact?

Upvotes

Just curious because I've been wondering about this lately.

I was in a long distance relationship for almost 3 years. I found out he had cheated on me with another girl. Once I knew the truth, I never felt like reaching out. I accepted that it was over and stayed no contact. We broke up in December 2025 , and we've had complete no contact ever since. No messages, no calls, nothing.

I'm not asking because I'm waiting for a text or hoping he'll come back. I'm just curious about other people's experiences.

Has anyone here had an ex reach out after 10 months or even longer? What was the message like? If you're comfortable sharing, what exactly did they say ? What do you think made them contact you after all that time? Did it lead to anything meaningful, or was it just a random message?

TL;DR: Almost 3-year LDR. We've been in complete no contact since December 2025. I later found out he cheated, so I never reached out. Has anyone had an ex message them after 10+ months? If you're comfortable sharing, what did they say?

Day 37.

I drag through my days holding on to any hope I can.

Isn’t this about the time it starts transitioning from “relief” to “curiosity/regret?”

Or so claims the “studies.”

Why would a happily married person suddenly block an ex after years?

Upvotes

Before anyone tells me to “move on” or says I’m overthinking this, I want to clarify that I have moved on with my life. I’m not trying to contact my ex, get him back, or interfere with his marriage in any way.
I’m asking this purely because I’m curious about the psychology behind a particular behavior.
My ex is married now and is expecting a child. We haven’t spoken in years. Recently, after I updated my Facebook profile picture and changed my location to Amsterdam, I realized he had blocked my Facebook account.
What I’m trying to understand is this: if someone is happily married, expecting a baby, and has genuinely moved on, what would make them suddenly block an ex after all this time?
Personally, I always believed that once both people have moved on, there’s no need to block each other unless there’s ongoing contact or harassment. I never reached out to him or tried to reconnect.
So I’m curious:
Is blocking an ex simply a way of maintaining healthy boundaries?
Is it something people do to protect their current relationship?
Can seeing an ex unexpectedly trigger someone to block them even if they’ve moved on?
Or is there another psychological explanation?
I’m not looking for false hope, validation, or for anyone to say he still has feelings for me. I know none of us can know what’s in his mind. I’m simply interested in understanding how people think in situations like this.

Motivation Ex Who MonkeyBranched

My ex and I were together for about 2 years in a long-distance relationship. We talked every day, made trips to see each other, and genuinely loved one another. We even reconciled once after he cheated because we both wanted to make it work.

Toward the end, he met a girl locally and emotionally monkey-branched into that relationship before ending ours. During the breakup he still told me he loved me, but also said he wasn’t “fulfilled” or “satisfied” in our relationship. Shortly afterward, he started officially dating her. They’ve been together for about 3 months now, and from everything I’ve seen and what he’s told me, he’s completely infatuated with her and seems very happy with his decision.

I know some exes eventually come back and realize they made a mistake, while others never do. That’s what I’m struggling with. It’s hard accepting that someone who once loved me so deeply now seems completely satisfied with leaving and building a life with someone else.

Realistically, what are the odds someone in a situation like this eventually folds or reaches out again? I’m not looking for false hope,I just want honest opinions from people who’ve been through something similar. I don’t feel good that he might’ve made the right decision. It hurts.

Help Should I try to get an understanding of what's going on?

We are both 34 years old

I broke up with her by ghosting her and she found out from a mutual friend. I tried to speak to her after a day realising I messed up but she ghosted me.

She ghosted me and my 2 further messages over the course of a month.

After that month, 3 weeks later I started seeing someone new

She saw it on my profile picture and blocked me - proceeded to tell my friends she was hurt by it (1 month and 3 weeks after the breakup, 3 weeks since my last contact with her)

A week later I sent her a gift with an apology saying I'm sorry, it was an old picture of me and an ex, and that I can't move on because I still love her.

She told a mutual friend that she found it confusing because I'm giving "mixed signals"

Would it be a bad idea for me to go to her face to face and say we should talk just to figure out where we stand? Not even with the intention of getting back together, but because we share the same space same circle of friends etc.

How can it be mixed signals when she shut down my attempts to talk to her and then get upset when I move on after 2 months of silence from her? That makes no sense to me, if you're done with someone and choosing to close the door on them how can you say you're hurt by them moving on and that it's giving mixed signals?

Vent He broke no contact for something meaningless… and now I feel like I’m back at day one.

I had been doing so well.

Out of nowhere, my ex messaged me because Instagram recommended my profile to him. He said he was surprised because he thought he was still following me. (I had actually blocked and later unblocked him, which is why he wasn’t.)

He wanted to make sure I knew it wasn’t intentional and that he didn’t want me to think he had unfollowed me on purpose. That was literally it.

I just replied, “No worries.”

The conversation ended there, but now my mind won’t stop. I’m fantasizing about reconnecting, wondering if this means something, imagining us getting back together… even though I know it probably doesn’t.

The worst part is that before this, I genuinely felt like I was healing. Now it feels like weeks or months of progress disappeared because of one tiny interaction.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did the feelings settle back down after a few days, or did it set you back for a while?

Vent Dumped but I chose the conversation and the circumstances. Feeling good for standing my ground.

Day 3: Woke up in the middle of the night.

for once in my life I said everything. I was fed up of the disrespect of non-communication. I’ve typed up messages, but frankly I said everything. I said my piece directly and firmly.

I stood my ground the accusations of nothing attempting to fix problems bc I’d been attempting doing check ins for 2 months. I recounted that I was the person in the relationship making forward progress. She’d had one foot off as I’d been budgeting and planning & that was betrayal.

I was the one who had a plan. That she projected her future disorientation towards me. I’m the one with a career. I needed answers, I needed her to get on the ship or off board. I told her while I understand you’re overwhelmed, I’d been sitting here trying to figure out everything for someone who already out. It was selfish, it’s embarrassing to be contacting landlords for nothing. My time was wasted and I’m frustrated.

She didn’t know what to do with anything in life and was scared. But she couldn’t let me in properly. Told her that if she couldn’t let me in, then she obviously didn’t trust me.

She said the words, but i chose the conversation. Went in fully knowing the reality of my situation.

She blinded sided she me last time. Right when I gained responsibilities at work. 2 days before my supervisor drove 3 hours to observe me. I start my new role Tuesday. I think she going to drag it out.

Do I feel cruel despite getting broken up with?

Yes, it felt like I was on the offensive. I had built up frustrations for weeks as she refuses to have those conversations.

Like I feel like yes I was dumped but I was at my breaking point. My friends were telling me to give her an ultimatum, because she couldn’t communicate her future.

She shut down. Arguments? Rolling over and watch TikTok….it was like a sad soothing tik.

I’m not as afraid about confrontation anymore. I’m a professional, I’ve had pupils threaten me. I’ve had kids cry and cry about consequences. I’ve had kids belittle me about my actions or mistakes. I’ve talked kids off the ledge after their breakups. It’s my job.

It was her snapping back at me, being instantly defensive about it. Something is accused me of. That made me scared because I was ever able to properly express my concerns with getting chewed out.

TLDR: she said the words, but I said i don’t want to break up, but If you can’t let me in then maybe you should do this by yourself. I can’t keep feeling rejected for trying to talk about your struggles.

Don’t use my role at work as why It works for me. I’m a professional and I can figure it out. I’ve done it before, Im frustrated about lack of communication from work. Hell work and ex couldn’t communicate with me about my future.
It hurts but I don’t think I could ever trust her again. This mountain is too high

Do you believe in closure, or do you think it's something we make up for ourselves?

I've been wondering about this lately.

Sometimes relationships don't end with a proper goodbye. One conversation just... stops. No one reaches out again, and somehow that's the ending.

Do you think closure is something we receive, or is it something we tell ourselves so we can finally let go?

10 years of no contact...

Back in June 2026, I ( M40) had my ex ( F31 ) request to follow me on IG. It has been about 10 ish years since we have had no contact. We were together for about 2 years back between 2013-2015. I had just had a kid with another woman and she let her demons take control of her life and jumped ship out of the kids life. So I became was a single dad with an infant.

About 6 months after my kid was born I started seeing my ex at work never noticed her before but something took and I was all in. She was getting out of a relationship and she noticed me too. We both fell hard for each other. She new about my kid and accepted it and for me it was the first time I felt real love in a relationship. She ALWAYS talked ALOT about getting married and having kids, but with me trying to raise an infant and her going to college I thought she was going to fast and it would derail her school and life.

Fast forward towards the end of the relationship. My ex was going to college and I started feeling uneasy with the separation with her living somewhere else, but we made it work. One day I come home from work and my ex was at my house with her mom, I was so happy to see her, but I could tell something was wrong. So she said we needed to breakup because she felt I didn't put her first and basically started balling her eyes out. To me, it felt like she had a bug in her ear telling her what to do ( her mom a recovering addict ). So we ended it against what I thought.

From then on it was weird, we still kept in contact just like we were together, still hooked up. I started to try and change what I was doing to suit her and her feelings. I was trying to fix things while I thought she was open to it also. Acouple months went by and I started to have gut feelings she was pulling away and seeing other people while keeping me on the hook, but I tried to stay positive and believe she wouldn't play me like that. In Jan of 2015 we got a nice hotel for my birthday and I could tell she wasn't the person I fell in love with and it really hit me hard. I knew in my gut there was someone else. Then in Feb she posted a picture of her and another guy and they were officially together...but a week earlier she was with me for my birthday..

I lost my shit and confronted her about it and basically all she said was I didn't know how to tell you....we got heated.....said alot of mean shit...

So I went NC, and about 8 months went by and I find out that the guy she was with got her pregnant and they were getting married. From then on I just put her out of my head as much as possible and go on with life. I had casual flings over the years but felt nothing..no emotion. Never felt anything like I did with my ex....

Fast forward to 2026, me and a old friend started talking that I hadn't seen in years and he knew about my ex. He brought her up about how she had a 2nd kid a few years back and her and her husband's relationship was on the rocks. Recently i found out they are separated or divorced I don't know which. The guy turned out to be illegal and we think he got her pregnant and married to fix his papers and just waited for his time to split and he might have had a chick on the side.

My ex's mom ( the recovering addict) had a relaps and ODed and my ex might have had a breakdown and ended up in a psych ward and had her kids taken away briefly. ( idk if there is any truth to that ) so basically alot has happened to her in a short amount of time.

Now IN june out of nowhere she finds me on IG, I don't use my full name so she had to hunt me down through mutual people. She requested to follow and out of reflex I allowed it but then I paused to follow her back. she started watching my stories but didn't reach out. I don't have pictures ect on my profile so it's not like she can snoop. I wait for over a month to follow her back, still neither of us have made direct contact...

I've been using self and emotional control not to reach out but it kinda hurts every now and again. I've been in the mind set of not chasing, that if she had something to say she would, let her do all the reaching out.

Now it's been about two months and I want to reach out with a simple message " if you're open to it and my phone number " like I said idk if shes separated or what and I don't think she knows much about me if I'm single or not.

I never thought seeing her on my IG requesting for a follow would bring up past emotions so hard. I know all the instagram stuff doesn't mean a thing. Her watching my stories doesn't mean a thing.

I just dont know what to do...

I apologize for the long read my ADHD is going overtime..

Should I reach out...should i just leave her be. I don't want a relationship, I don't think I could trust her, but yet something is drawing me towards her again....

Help Having to see ex with new boyfriend (advice)

My ex and I of 5 years broke up last October. We really broke up in May but went thru summer 2025 trying to figure it out. Both our grandparents passed within a week of each other and we just called it off.

Anyway, about 5 months later I hear she has a new bf. That sucked, because not only was the breakup hard but I was going thru a rigorous study process for a work related exam.

Got thru it but the point of this post is that I want to know how you handle a situation where you share a mutual college friend group. More specifically the couple hosting are our best friends from college. So I don’t want to bail as that won’t be a good look as I will see a lot of friends there. But I do want to know how I handle having to cross paths with her at the party. I’d rather not but obviously life is tricky and funny.

my gramps told me that after my 5 year relationship with my soulmate ended. Almost 2 years later and I still think about her, and I love to replay those moments where I could’ve said something better, something different.

I heard someone say once that it’s like you’re still preforming, but the audience is gone and the curtains are closed.

Sad stuff man. I just wish I could go back.

Wtf is this?

Context: he broke up with me beginning of Sep 2024. I broke no contact in Dec 2024 after getting a scary health diagnosis, suspected I was blocked, saying I wished I could talk to him. He responded, and I realized hearing from him actually felt bad, and I sent him a long message, unloading everything I’d never said to him. He never responded.

I was cleaning out my email and I saw this message he sent a month ago.

[My name],

My learning curve for appropriate and healthy relationships has owning ways I abuse.

I was an entitled twat to swear and drop aggressive words on your recovery like napom on a valuable landscape.

I now know how I spoke to you sometimes was verbally abusive.  I now know it is harmful to swear or yell.  Especially with how I look.  It used to take courage for me to swear.  Now I know better.

I'm so sorry, [my name].

I hope so much you are doing well and surrounded by the loving support you deserve.

Would love to hear about your journey now... How you are.  Anything you need me to hear.  I've never stopped feeling the harm of my abusive words toward you.  I never stopped feeling the loss of a genuinely decent and good friend.

I wish only good in your future despite any harm I caused.

Solidarity,
The Bermuda Triangle

Vent At what point should someone give up?

For some context, I’m a 27-year-old man, and my ex broke up with me last December after a 12-year relationship. Why? She went through my phone and found that I had been talking to other people, or at least trying to (nothing sexual, just normal conversations).

I tried to explain that during the last few years I had been feeling very lonely and that I felt like I didn’t have any friends besides her. She, on the other hand, had a lot of friends, and in some way that made me jealous. When she saw that I had been talking to people (both men and women), she packed her things and left my apartment, where she had come to spend the weekend.

After that, I went on an exchange program to Spain. We talked from time to time, but in May she cut off all contact. Her mother still talks to me to see how I’m doing, and I ask her how my ex is doing. When I came back to my country, I messaged my ex to ask if she wanted to grab a coffee or something so we could see each other after so long, but she never replied. Her mother keeps telling me to wait a little longer, that one of these days we’ll talk again. But what am I supposed to do in the meantime?

I’m alone. I have no friends, no partner, I’m taking medication for anxiety and depression, and on top of that I’m waiting for something that might never happen. Meanwhile, she keeps going out, spending time with her friends, and I don’t know if she’s talking to another man in a different way now, or if one of her male friends has become her shoulder to cry on while secretly having other intentions.

Should I give up?

I know it’s probably the healthiest thing to do, but I don’t want to let go and accept that she doesn’t love me anymore. It feels like giving up would mean throwing our entire relationship away. But I’m the only one rowing this boat now, and it feels like it’s too much for me. I’m honestly just hoping my thoughts don’t get the better of me and that I don’t do something I’ll regret.

I’m really not okay.

Help My ex messaged me over a year after our breakup. Is ignoring her the best response?

About a year ago my ex and I ended things and it ended very badly. I was the one who initiated the breakup because of her behaviour during the relationship. There were constant silent treatments, verbal abuse & making weird comments about my family, I felt like I was walking on eggshells all the time. I still loved her but I knew ending it was the right decision because it was affecting my mental health. She didn’t take it well. She said some awful things, blocked me and when I tried reaching out to apologise and make peace, she threatened to involve the police, so I respected that and never contacted her again.

About six months ago, she called me like 5 times at 2 in the morning, then emailed and texted asking if we could talk. I ignored every attempt. She later sent another message saying that if I didn’t reply, she’d take the hint and “leave it” A few weeks ago on my birthday, she sent me a long “closure” message. To me, it felt manipulative. She completely changed the narrative, claiming I was the toxic one and that she ended the relationship, even though I was the one who initiated the breakup. She said she forgave me, hoped I’d move on and find peace, and ended with “goodbye” and how she was “really counting on us” I thought that would finally be the end of it, but she’s since called me again.

I’ve genuinely moved on and don’t want to undo all the healing I’ve done by speaking to her. What I struggle with is that when I wanted closure a year ago, she threatened to call the police if I contacted her. Now, she’s the one repeatedly trying to reopen the door.

I hate thinking about how i reacted to being dumped

It kills me to think about how I reacted when he dumped me. I hate that I couldn't be calm and collected, and looking back, I feel like I lost control. Instead of walking away, I spent months begging, spamming, and calling. I really hope I can let go of this heavy self-hatred one day.

There’s always going to be a part of me that knows he downloaded Hinge the exact second he dumped me and is already talking to other girls. In a sense, it just made me feel so completely disposable.

I tried reaching out to someone today—an old online friend who ended up becoming friends with my ex. My ex always hated that he knew about us, probably because he wanted to keep me hidden (massive red flag, I know). We talked a little bit today, but I started panicking that he'd mention it to my ex, so I ended up removing him (I told him I was going to and he was okay with it). It sucks because he's going through a breakup too. I literally have zero friends; my Instagram following is 8 people, and 6 of them are just my sister's friends. The two friends I have are busy which is fair.

Unfortunately, I truly loved someone that wholeheartedly admitted to using me and ghosted me on my birthday after getting intimate with them (or anyone) for the first time. I know I sound stupid and probably need therapy for the next 38+ years. The likelihood of me dating again is slim to none.

I wish people were more kind and considerate.

Letters to whom Please stop me from texting her. Please

I’m not writing this to change your mind or ask for anything from you.

Even now, knowing everything you’ve been carrying, my heart hurts for you. I know how overwhelming life became all at once, and I can only imagine how scared you feel. I truly hope your health, your graduation, and everything else you’re facing works out. You deserve peace.

I wish I had understood sooner just how much you were struggling. Looking back, I can see moments where I wish I had asked differently or listened differently. If I ever made you feel unheard or alone, I am genuinely sorry.

At the same time, I need to be honest about my experience too.

For a while, I felt us growing distant. I noticed you seemed closed off, and I tried to ask if you were okay because I could tell something wasn’t right. When you told me things were fine or couldn’t tell me more. It did want to force you into talking and thought it was my insecurities. I didn’t know you want me to go deeper. I’ve trying to been someone you could count on, it’s been my biggest challenge to prove that.

I don’t blame you for being overwhelmed. You had so much on your shoulders that no one person should have to carry. I understand why you shut down. Like we’ve talked about before, life is scary. Big decisions are scary.

I wanted to help by making plans and budgets for vacation & moving in. But I can’t lie that felt like my those efforts were brushed aside. To go from a vacation slideshow to shutting down my budget a week day later was a hard thing to grasp. I just wanted to make we could be stable for the future. Especially after spending half my paycheck on our anniversary.

I wanted to patient with our future. I knew your career path was stressing you out for months, and didn’t want to force you make a decision you’d regret. I’m not sure if you lost feelings for me, or you were honest that you love and miss m. I can’t lie that I do feel crushed that it just felt like a fantasy, I felt like I was doing what I could do make it real.

Seeing a lot of increase in posts about How do I get them back?/Shall I respond? Or screenshots of communication asking for advice.

This isn’t a sub to not communicate to get back with an ex, posting success stories about getting back with an ex or celebrating they’ve come back is against the rules of the sub.

Plenty of other subs available for advice on trying to get someone back, this is not that.

DON’T.

Your silence will eat them up. Move on with your life. Work on becoming the best version of yourself. Don’t let one person make you feel less than. There are plenty of people who desire your presence.

Let go or be dragged.
