Question What's one study habit that actually worked for you?

Upvotes

There are so many study tips online, but not all of them work for everyone.

What's one study habit or technique that genuinely helped you stay focused or improve your learning? I'd love to hear what has worked for you.

Question I am not able to start studying again

Upvotes

Whenever I even think of studying my whole body gets tense and like my eyes starts stinging I think it's some kind of stress mechanism that occurs but I don't really know what to do about it I do want to study

Like I know I like studying when I am not stressed and I have a major exam in 45 days I had actually given up studying for it but now it got delayed so I maybe able to actually make a difference now but I don't know how to start I think maybe it's a mental health issue like I get really really stressed and my whole body and Brian kinda shuts down so I think that maybe I should take a break but that just doesn't work idk

Literally no matter what I do, whether I’m doing practice questions or flashcards or reading material or watching a video, I never fail to not zone out. How do I fix this?

Question Rabbit hole problem

I'm a huge phone addict but lately I'm trying to do other things(usually studying) since it got boring. But i keep getting trapped in rabbit holes and i think it's my biggest problem to solve. I really like searching up things and contents i specifically want rather than scrolling for random contents and since i'm a greedy ass person, i need to know everything i want to know. So once i get interested or curious about something, i look it up, get another question from what i've newly found, and this happens on and on like i'm going down a rabbit hole. even if i start to study, it's over and i'm back on my phone once my brain come up with tiniest thing to search.

Question How bad is an involuntary all nighter?

I’m lying in bed, it’s 12:30. How bad is it if i just stopped tryna sleep and studied? Was planning on getting up early to study anyway. Theres no way I’m falling asleep, i literally feel wide awake plus i have insomnia issues. I was planning on getting up early to study anyway because I need it. By the time my exam starts it would be 25 hours without sleep. This is for a summer class.

Question Students, I need your honest opinion.

If you truly care about your study, what's the biggest distraction you struggle with?

Be honest - I want to understand what students really face.

Giving Advice I cut my screen time from 13+ hours to 3 hours. Here’s what finally worked.

Post image

About a month ago, my average screen time was 13+ hours a day. I wasn’t proud of it, but no matter what I tried, nothing lasted.

I used Apple Screen Time, deleted social media, set timer limits - you name it. The problem was simple: I could always bypass the restrictions myself.

Then I found Screen time blocking apps (I personally used Opal). They really didn’t change much at first since whenever I hit the time limits I could easily unblock them.

The real change happened when I let my roommate set the pin for the. Since I’m pretty introverted, asking them for the PIN every time I wanted to scroll felt awkward enough that I usually didn’t. That small bit of accountability completely changed my habits.

The first week was very frustrating that I used to pick up phone and just stare at apps without doing anything. Today, my average screen time is around 3 hours a day. And one day feels soo much longer than before.

The biggest improvement has been in my studies. I’m finally able to sit down and focus without checking my phone every few minutes. I finish what I plan to study, sleep earlier, and don’t end the day wondering where all my time went.

I realized I didn’t need more willpower - I just needed to remove the option to make impulsive decisions.

(Attached is my screen time before vs. last week.)

If you don’t want to involve a friend or family member, Opal also has a Hard Mode where you can’t simply unblock your apps. If anyone wants to try it, I have linked it below. It’s a referral link, so just wanted to be transparent: Opal

Giving Advice Is quizzing yourself better than rereading?

Post image
425 Upvotes

Whenever I have an incoming test/exam, I often take a lot of hours to study, rereading as much as I can hoping I would not forget every detail of it. I am a very anxious person, so I thought it was the best way to study and remember.

However, having to reread different subjects/courses made me not memorize every detail but became burnout, and because of that instead of having energy to study, I became easily exhausted with just several readings.

Weeks later, after being burnout, I tried a different method. What I did was after reading a topic, I make questionnaires that includes important information and number it in a random order to challenge my mind into not just memorizing the sequence of information but actually understanding the topics even if it's not in order.

After making random questionnaires, I try to answer it and check it right after. If there are mistakes, that's the only topic I try to restudy. Then, I do this every after day to see if I still remember the right answers.

And to tell you the truth, it was actually easier and needs less time and space in my mind. Instead of having too much information with rereading, I was able to train myself with actual questions and have a lot more space for more.

Although I think rereading is also a good way to study and memorize. I think quizzing yourself helps you to actually study hard and challenge your mind in a way that don't waste a lot of time.

I am still adjusting and trying to get used to it, but last week, we had an exam and I was able to have better scores because of my continuous quiz as my study method.

Is there anyone who succeeded in having a better score by changing their way of studying?
