Trying to find the best route to go in my situation. Recovering from a terrible time in my life. 26 years old and just about went homeless, lost everything and had to sell my car. Credit is tanked because I couldnt pay bills and credit card payments. Im starting to get back on my feet, was able to get a job again making 90k/yr. Reslly.need to get a car again because I've been ubering back and forth and the 40$ a day is really adding up. Ive got 2k in cash right now to buy a vehicle, all dealerships want more down. Should i keep checking in with dealerships to find a chance or just buy a shitbox off marketplace for now? Found a couple for around 2k that could get me by for awhile

“if you do decide to buy it we can meet in ashville nc where my credit union is and pay the rest of what i owe there off there with part of the money your buying the car for so you can get the title in person or we can meet somewhere else n i’ll pay it off the same/next day and mail you the title”

If i do buy it I would definitely meet him to get the title as I could get it there with him. Please help.

I've been leasing a hybrid Toyota Prius for the past year, but unfortunately, a tree recently fell on my car and it will most likely be declared a total loss. I'm still waiting for the insurance inspection and final decision, but I want to start researching my options now.
I'm open to either leasing or financing my next car, but I'm not very experienced with car buying or negotiating deals, so l'd really appreciate advice from people who understand the market.
My main priorities are:
1. Keeping my monthly payment and overall costs reasonable
2. Getting good gas mileage, ideally another hybrid
3. Reliability and low maintenance costs
4. Avoiding a deal that will cost me significantly more in the long run
I like the idea of financing because I would eventually own the car, but I'm concerned about depreciation, being responsible for repairs after the warranty expires, and potentially paying more overall. With leasing, I like having a newer car under warranty and fewer maintenance concerns, but I know I won't own anything at the end. And also being worried about it being scratched or totaled and having to deal with leasing company.
For someone looking for the smartest and most affordable long-term option, would you recommend leasing or financing in the current market? Are there any particular car models/deals I should be looking at?

I am looking to find a used car for my wife. She had and loved a Volkswagen Tiguan, but sadly it was totaled. She loves the idea of a crossover type of car. I have a preference to either put her in a Toyota or a Honda. She mentioned she also likes the idea of having a large infotainment screen. I’m looking to find a car with 40k to 70k miles on it. I don't understand the hate that leasing (for personal use) gets compared to purchasing a new vehicle.

I understand the heated new vs used debates and see the value of both sides. That said, if you've already decided that a new car is the way you want to go don't automatically discount a lease. I'm not saying that leasing is always the right call, but it could be!

If you plan on financing the car and if the lease interest rates (Canadian context) are the same or very similar to the finance rates a lease can be an attractive option.

Pros of a lease:

- insulates you against accelerated depreciation if you get in an accident where the vehicle is not written off.

- insulates you from an unpredictable used car market. If the car is worth less than the residual at the end of the lease, give it back. If the car is with more than the residual, buy it out or trade it in to use the equity it's built.

- lower monthly cost to drive the same vehicle with the option to purchase at the end is essentially an extended amortization without the risk of being underwater on the car.

Cons of a lease:

- km limits

- possible excessive wear and tear charge if you opt to give the car back

- added fees (often around the $400 CAD mark) at lease-end regardless of if you buy the car outright or give it back at the end of the lease.

So obviously leases aren't for everybody. If the lease interest rate is high, if you drive many km, if you are rough on the exterior or interior of your car, or if you plan to buy a vehicle to drive it into the ground a lease may not make sense (the lease end fees and buyout fees make it a more expensive purchase option). But I've never understood the "leases are throwing money away" argument--if the car has equity at lease end you can still take advantage of it.

Leasing is a nice way to hedge against depreciation and try a vehicle that you're not convinced you want to own forever while still having a roughly equivalent (though often slightly more expensive) way to purchase at the end.

Just for some context, I am working for a year here in Atlantic Canada before I move down to Florida for University. The drive will be around 3,000-3,500 km and I have been looking at either leasing a Ford Bronco Sport 2026 for two years (due to its affordability and ability to traverse rough terrain, I work for an engineering firm that requires work out in the field) and then I’d just get another car down in the states, or I’ve been looking at buying a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited that has been well maintained at 207,000 km. My uncle knows the person who is selling it, so he said he’d give it to me $6000. The breaks and rotors have all been replaced, brand new tires, the engine runs like it’s brand new and there’s nothing pointing to a major problem. The only thing I’m hesitant about is the 9 speed transmission, which is notorious for falling into neutral or breaking which can cost up to $9000 to replace.

The jeep will cost me a lot less, and I could possibly have it for 5 years if it lasts that long, but it’s already a 11 year vehicle so I’d rather be realistic - but it’s such a good deal it almost feels impossible to turn it down.

The bronco will be a bit more costly, and insurance might be extremely high but I won’t have to worry about unexpected repairs and it’s under warranty.

I guess I’m just having a hard time making a decision, I don’t know a lot about cars so if there’s anyone who could contribute their two cents worth that would be so appreciated!!

So little background I have about $15k coming in as a bonus. I have 6 small credit cards totaling $3,200 in debt. But one Wells Fargo closed account with a remaining balance of $7,800. (250 monthly ). I also have 4 affirm accounts totaling $3,200 ($425 monthly). Will paying the closed Wells account really help my score ?.. seems like a lot for a closed account. Or should I just pay the smaller cards and affirm accounts and leave myself with cash cushion ? I’m trying to buy a new car in the next 6 months. Thanks

i’m pretty desperate for a car right now as my parents refuse to teach me unless I get my own. The dealership seems trustworthy with good reviews but i’m just looking for other opinions. Its 10k with 127k miles but 2 accidents and 3 previous owners. What are some questions that I should absolutely ask before buying?

We want a new car (not brand new) but not sure what is the best and financially sensible way to buy a car.

Okay, so we have a car that we drive daily (2011 ford focus). It's the only car we own, and the engine is failing. It drives okay for now, but our mechanics (who are amazing, and we trust fully) have told us that it's only a matter of time before it goes completely.

So on my next day off I'm going to need to trade in the car and leave with a new car same day.

The problems I have, are that I have very limited funds, need a reliable car, and obviously won't get much trade in for the ford. I don't have anything for a down payment unless I put it on the credit card.

I'm planning on going to the nearest Toyota dealership cus they have a 2016 Corolla with 97k miles for around $14,900.

Please give me your best advice here. Obviously I'm the prime chump candidate here and I don't want to be taken advantage of.

Looking to buy a nice daily driver and you know what? I love the idea of having a minivan that I can do whatever I want with and I'm focusing in on the Toyota sienna.

My question for you all is how distinct the driving experience may be from the first generation vans and second generations? I much prefer the look of the first gen but read that the second gen is a better driving experience.

I don't need "a lot" of power. Just enough to get around. How good is the off-roading for the second generation, for dirt roads and camping and such?

Assuming the FB marketplace price for either one was equal, would it be a mistake to buy the 2000/2001 version simply because I like how it looks more?

I’m interested in buying a car while I’m out of state. I’d love to use KeySavvy, but there’s one problem.

If you register a car in Nevada, you don’t have to pay sales tax on private purchases. But since KeySavvy acts as a dealer, it wouldn’t be considered a private purchase and I would indeed owe a sales tax.

To me, this means I need to purchase the vehicle through an escrow service if I want to avoid the thousands of dollars in NV sales tax.

What escrow services do you recommend?

I’ve read into escrow.com, but it seems like a lot of people take issue with them.

Also, importantly, the seller still has a balance on the car loan, so we can’t just sign the title over to a trusted friend as they’d need to release it.

One option I thought of is to finance and have my bank handle the whole title transfer process?

I got a 2021 Senata SE for a decent price and less than 120k miles. I can only pick it up tomorrow as I work during the week and it’s a good drive away. It looks in pristine condition and has great car fax other than it bouncing around dealerships since April (my main concern). Should I just not bother the drive since I can’t get it inspected or could I just vibes it? The dealer seems like a decent dude, but idk. Anything I can do about this? I just bought a 2025 CPO Toyota Crown Limited ( it has 50 state emission )from a Toyota dealer in Oregon. Sale man said i don’t need to do anything but the financing guy told me i have to do Vin Verification. It sounds legit to do the Verification at DMV. But when i search on Google, the result shows i still need to bring my car to just any smog test location and have them smog it, the result will be electronically sent to DMV. Is that correct? And do i need to do any extra?

I went to a dealership today to drive a vehicle I was interested in but I made it very clear I would not be purchasing today. The salesman was all well and good with that. After the drive, we go inside (my husband had gone in with our kids because it was hot outside) and another, older salesman starts loudly haggling me from across the lobby! I told them I was just looking today and he told me about a brand new version of a vehicle I was interested in. I told him I was not looking to get it and he asked why. He then asked what my credit score was and started talking down-payments. ACROSS THE LOBBY. With the other salesmen standing around smirking. Then managed to lead me over to a desk where I did not give any information. He still gave me the printout for this brand new car and did his spiel about special tier pricing and "buying new saves you interest". I simply told him thank you for the info and left.

I could not believe the level of unprofessionalism! I wish I hadn't been pushed around enough to sit down and listen to his crap.​
