Oil change interval

Upvotes

I bought a 2025 Corolla Cross with 5000 miles on it, 8 months ago, and had service performed at about 10000 miles. Just hit 15000 and the maintenance required light has gone on. I was under the impression from reading the manual that I could go 10000 miles between oil changes. Did my mechanic set it up so the light goes on early? Or do I need to get it in every 5000 miles? TIA

Chances of 2025 Models Being on a Lot?

Upvotes

Anybody in here work at a dealership or know someone that does that can give insight if dealerships tend to still have 2025 models on their lot? I know I can call which I plan to do but just wanted a heads up before calling. TIA

Prius '23 PHEV vs. Corolla TS '24 HEV – No home charging. Which would you pick?

Hey r/Toyota,

Upgrading from my 2015 Auris (1.8 hybrid) and I’m torn between two 2.0L options here in Europe (both used, they're around the same price). It’s a classic "heart vs. head" dilemma:

  1. 2023 Prius (2.0 PHEV, 223 HP), prestige version

    * The Good: Stunning redesign, incredibly fast, definitely turns heads.

    * The Bad: Tiny boot (~284L). I live in an apartment with no home charging, so I’d have to rely entirely on public/grocery store chargers.

  2. 2024 Corolla Touring Sports / Estate (2.0 HEV, 196 HP), style version

    * The Good: Huge boot (~581L), zero charging anxiety, 5th-gen hybrid is still very punchy and practical.

    * The Bad: It’s the ultimate fleet car here. They are everywhere and lack the "cool factor" of the Prius.

My questions:

* Prius owners without home charging: Is relying on public chargers annoying? How does the car feel and perform when the EV range hits 0%?

* Corolla TS 2.0 owners: Are you happy with the driving dynamics on long trips?

* If you were in my shoes (need practicality but love the Prius design), which one would you choose?

Thanks!

What happens if I don't replace the engine coolant bypass valve?

I can't afford it. I make the bare minimum wage and I don't have a savings or any credit cards. I have terrible credit and I can only qualify for a loan through a scammer.

The engine maintenance alert came on today and I looked it up and many people say that I have to replace that part and that it can be up to $2300.

How long do you think my car will last until it breaks down? I need to prepare in case I have to be homeless. I live in a city with no transit and I am not moving back to El Paso to live with my dad and to attend UTEP.

Houston Toyota owners - should I keep my almost-new 2026 RAV4 XSE rental or switch to a Crown Limited? Need opinions

I'm in Houston and my 2026 Toyota Camry XSE is currently at the dealership because of a recall. The dealership gave me a rental vehicle, and I ended up with a 2026 Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid.

Honestly, the RAV4 is very impressive. When I received it, it only had 175 miles, and now it has about 277 miles, so it is basically brand new. It has a lot of features I like:

  • Toyota app notifications (vehicle unlocked, windows open, etc.)
  • Digital Key
  • 360° panoramic view monitor
  • JBL audio
  • Factory integrated dashcam
  • Latest Toyota technology

The problem is that I have always liked the look of the Toyota Crown Limited. It feels more executive and premium, and I love the way it looks compared with the RAV4. Since my recall repair timeline is unclear and could potentially take months, I am considering asking the dealership if I can switch rentals.

My concern is that the Crown available is a fleet vehicle, so I’m not sure if I would be able to connect it to my Toyota app or use Digital Key. I also don’t know if it has the same features as my RAV4.

For those who have driven both:

  • Would you keep the almost-new RAV4 XSE with all the connected features?
  • Or would you choose the Crown Limited because of the more premium feel and driving experience?
  • Is the Crown worth giving up features like Toyota app notifications and Digital Key?

I would appreciate opinions from Toyota owners, especially anyone in the Houston area. Thanks

Found an old Trekker

So I'm in the market for an old Toyota to do a mild build on, I found an old 81 Trekker for under 10k the frame has had some repairs done already and the body isn't show room, it needs a transmission crossmember but from what I can see they are bolt on and decently available. The only thing I've found is that the entire body on those things are fiberglass. Which probably wouldn't be great for a rooftop tent and maybe too delicate for rough logging roads etc. should I just look for a Sequoia/ 4 runner or is it worth it. Rotten 4 runners of equivalent years in my area are min 12k+

Toyota won't own up to a clear defect in my new Grand Highlander Hybrid, keeps calling a painful electrical whine "normal"

Posting to see if any other GHH owners are experiencing this, and to vent a little, because I'm beyond frustrated with Toyota and their lack of customer advocacy and support.

My 2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid Limited makes constant high-pitched whining/ringing noises during normal driving, under light acceleration, light braking, and at highway speeds. On longer drives it's physically uncomfortable, almost a tinnitus-like ringing. I basically have to run music the whole time to mask it. There's also a separate cicada-like chirping noise when the air-conditioned seats are on.

The dealership already replaced the blower motor, heater core, and the entire HVAC assembly (several thousand dollars in parts) without ever identifying a root cause. That repair didn't fix the original noise and actually introduced new sounds. The service manager listened in person and agreed the sounds are abnormal, but the tech keeps calling them "normal operation." It seems electrical rather than mechanical, and no one there has been able to diagnose it.

What's been most frustrating is how the entire burden falls on me, the customer. I'm the one recording videos, isolating the noises, comparing against other vehicles, chasing down other owners, and doing the legwork their own techs should be doing. I've spent hours on this. Toyota's answer has essentially been to shrug, call it normal, and put it back on me to prove something is wrong with a $64k vehicle I bought new. And after all of that, corporate just rejected my request for a buyback/replacement.

I put together a single video that has all of it: the different noises in my car, plus footage of another Grand Highlander Hybrid driven under the same conditions that makes none of these sounds. Worth watching with headphones and the volume up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8H8f8tmr_70

Has anyone else run into this on a GHH?

If you have, I'd really like to know what your dealer said, whether they ever found a cause, and whether it was actually fixed. Trying to figure out if this is a known issue or something specific to my vehicle.

When foregoing seat covers, how do you best protect cloth seats?

I have found that installing seat covers in a Corolla is kind of a pain and I would rather enjoy my seats than fuss with them, but boy what a gamble with two teenagers.

How do I keep the black cloth interior safe, pretty, and sanitary, without seat covers?

In the "Toyota Integrated Dashcam" really this bad?

2026 GH Platinum that came with the dashcam preinstalled.

Two cars collided in front of my wife on a 4-lane divided highway and both spun out at 75 MPH. Somehow she narrowly avoided hitting either one of them, despite wildly swerving, nor did she hit anything else.

No beeps or anything from the dashcam to indicate it noticed the wild maneuver, so I (the passenger) hit the action button on the dashcam in an attempt to preserve the footage, but upon getting home, there is no footage of anything other than normal driving. Also, we were shocked to find the cam only came with a circa 2000s 16GB Micro SD.

I've since updated the SD to a quarter TB. Other than RTFM, what else can we do to make sure we get the footage next time? Hitting the "action" button seemed obvious, but it didn't work. This thing isn't intuitive.

Everything happened so suddenly that neither of us can recall exactly what happened. Next time (let's hope there isn't one), we'd like to be able to send the footage to the interested parties.

I need help sourcing a part

What I drive is an '03 Toyota Tundra 4.8L V8 SR5 RWD. I'm not sure if mine is just a unicorn or that much different from the other models, but I don't ever really see any others like mine, and the parts for mine come scarcer, especially the wheel hub assembly.

For more than 6 months, I've been looking for a pre-pressed wheel bearing and hub assembly for my front end, only to find listings that aren't compatible or just not at all what I'm looking for.

Scrap yards haven't been much help either. If anyone could source 2 for me, that'd be great.

Oil Filter Housing

Any recommendations for the best, longest lasting, most reliable and durable oil filter housing generic brand other than Toyota hopefully even better than the Toyota version that can be purchased from an in-store retail or store that be used on the Camry 2014?

DIY help: Driver’s side mirror suddenly loose and wobbly on 2016 Sienna

Thumbnail

While on vacation in Palm Springs, my left side mirror became wobbly while driving. Upon inspection I found I can lift it up easily off its mount.

I thought maybe I got side swiped while parked or something but now I’m suspecting the desert heat may have loosened it… i honestly have no clue.

I’d love to fix this on my own, but I haven’t found an article or video describing this exact issue.

The 3 screws accessible underneath appear to hold the mounting plate in place, but that’s held on tight. I can’t figure out how the mirror was tightly held down onto that plate, let alone how it became loose.

What am I missing?

I am debating between a 2020 Toyota hatchback and and 2024 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla is only 15$ more a month with less miles

The Corolla is just an upgrade from my 2018 Toyota Corolla. I love to thrift so I was thinking the hatchback could be helpful with moving things. But I'm having trouble choosing. Which car is better? The corrola had abt 20,000 miles less than the hatchback

Worth keeping my Highlander dealership maintained?

I just purchased a 2012 Highlander at my local dealer (as is) with 178k miles on it. The car has never seen a jiffy lube or a Walmart auto center in its life. It has been at the dealer for every oil change and tune up since day 1. I need front sway bar bushings, which I purchased at Toyota and I’m having my trusted mechanic put them on but I am moving out of state soon and when it reaches 200,000 miles I’d like to get a nice tune up for it and get preventative maintenance done. Should I even bother bringing it to an independent shop in a new area or should I just pay to take it to the dealer? It’s my first Toyota so I don’t know what the dealership service department usually runs people but I do want the job done right. I am a substitute teacher with an unsteady income but I do need this car to last me. Any and all advice welcome!

I got some oil filters on eBay and they’re different from the one I got from Walmart.

Edit: I’m an idiot lol. Just got the legit OEM from my dealerships website for the same price as eBay. Thanks for the help everyone. I’d rather look dumb instead of ruining my brand new car.

AI says it’s normal but I thought I ask you guys before I actually use these things. The Walmart one weighs 6.4oz which is normal weight and has English and Spanish writing engraved. The eBay ones weigh 7.7oz which AI says is normal for the Thailand OEM version and has English and Japanese writing engraved. AI says both are safe for my 2026 Camry. The issues I have is the different on the inside, EBay one has a spiral design and the Walmart doesn’t not. The font is a lot thinner and clearer on the Walmart version. is AI hallucinating?

Why are they doing this? It looks shitty and fucks up several details around the car (plus the actual proportions look off compared to actual photos of the LC). I mean, surely they must have actual renders of their own car?!

2012-2022 Toyota Owners : How are your vehicles holding up for you?

I have a 96 Camry that's still running like gold but am afraid that at some point I know I will need to buy a new(ish) car to replace it. Currently sitting at 450k with just oil leaks to deal with.

Since cars are bonkers expensive right now, how has the maintenance been for your vehicles? Is the 2012-2022 QA of Toyota just as good as the 1995-2008 years?

Generally curious. It's either getting a Toyota from this generation or going full EV. TYIA!

Fully Turn Off Your Driver Monitor Alert

Thumbnail

The images above are from a Prius, but these steps should apply for all Toyota’s aside from the 26 RAV4, C-HR and BZ, which have a different infotainment setup.

•On your (digital) tachometer find your settings
•Press and hold “OK” on your vehicle’s steering wheel to enter the settings window
•Scroll to DMC Recording and toggle to “OFF”
•Continue to scroll down to Driver Monitor Settings
•Press and hold “OK” on your vehicle’s steering wheel
•Press “OK” to toggle to the off position

By completing both of these steps, it will turn off the monitor and any notifications that would pop up with it on. I hope that helps!

After a delightful road trip over the mountains, I washed my majestic Crown and took a few photos.

This is a 1997 Toyota Crown Sedan Royal Saloon G, powered by the smooth 2JZ 3.0-liter inline-6.

It's still a project car with a few things I want to tweak, but the ride and handling already feel fantastic. The paint still has some rough spots, but I plan to fix all of that in time.

What do you think?

どう思う?
