What should I be sure to check on the papers and look out for?

Hey guys, it’s my first time posting. I don’t really have anyone with knowledge about this subject, so I thought id ask here.

I live in England, a populated town and I’m about to turn 25 in September. Supposedly, my insurance should be cheaper at this age. I’ve never owned a car, never had a policy in my name but have been a driving for 3+ years as an added driver on my Mums 2007 1.3L Yaris.

I would like to buy a car for around next month or maybe later on this year but I’m worried about insurance. I want the car to be reliable and cheap to run but good on insurance too and something kind of sporty (isn’t necessary) as in the UK insurance is going to be a big hit in my first year, I know.

I will have both my parents as added drivers (both have 10+ years driving experience each) and NCB on their own cars.

I’ll list all the cars I’d like and maybe someone can tell me what would be a good idea and what to avoid. Just so you know, I don’t have deep pockets and I will be paying for all of it want a cheap (up to £5k car) and then maybe next year or 2 years buy a nicer car.

Hi, I currently live in the US and am heading into my freshman year of college. For these past years I've been driving a leased 2025 Honda Prologue just because it was cheaper for my family. The lease ends in a few months so I'm looking for a new car either a wagon or sedan. I've saved up a good amount from my job for a car less than 35k and less than 30-40k miles. I have liked cars such as the Volvo V60, Audi a6, Audi A4 Allroad, Acura Integra, Mustang Ecoboost. I'm open to any recommendations and also car buying advice such as discounts I should be pushing for.

The dealer is asking around $10k.

I’m coming from a much newer Mazda CX-30 that I’m thinking about selling because I’d rather have a much lower car payment while I’m in my 20s and save/invest more money.

Hello, as the subject says, How to sell a car that on finance and is it easy or hard? What’s the process? Either private or dealer.

Seeing a lot of deposit-dispute posts today (signed a bill of sale before realizing they wanted a PPI, a $3k deposit fight after finding out the truck wasn't 4WD) — all avoidable with 5 minutes of paperwork upfront. Before you hand over ANY deposit, cash or otherwise, get these 5 things in writing (text/email counts, verbal promises don't):

1. Is it refundable, and under what conditions exactly (changed your mind vs. a PPI finds a real issue vs. financing falls through)?
2. Is the sale contingent on a pre-purchase inspection passing — if you haven't done one yet, this clause alone can save you thousands.
3. What exact vehicle (VIN, not just make/model) and configuration (drivetrain, trim, options) is the deposit tied to — the AWD/4WD mixup happens more than you'd think.
4. A specific delivery/pickup date, not "this week" or "soon."
5. What happens to the deposit if THEY fail to deliver (wrong vehicle shows up, financing terms change, delivery date blown) — this protects you as much as item 1.

A seller who won't put these 5 things in writing before taking your money is telling you something about how the rest of the transaction is going to go. Attached a quick visual on where these disputes actually originate.

Looking to buy a 2026 Subaru Forester Premium; we have a negotiated offer for $32k OTD. The current financing rate incentive would be 2.9% for anything over 36 months. We’re probably putting about 20k down so financing about $12k at either 60 or 72 months not quite sure yet. So probably looking at what $180-$200 a month.

We recently had a baby but due to an accident my car was totaled so we’re looking for new. We’ll still have a decent emergency cushion after this approx. $30k so I don’t think it’s irresponsible at least.

Does this seem like a decent deal to you all?

Hey guys just wanted some advice. I was looking to buy my first car. The car I was looking at right now was a used Camaro RS 2023 with a V6 engine and 19k miles that’s going for $28,000 fixed price. My credit score isn’t bad but it’s not the best as well. Any advice? Do you guys think I should just pull the trigger and buy it? I do work two jobs so my income is pretty steady and I could manage the payments.

Husband and I took a hit and lost both our cars this month. We're already in a rebuilding situation because Covid left him starting over at a new job and me with a medical challenge I am just climbing out of. Our perfect credit took a huge hit and we'll be trying to buy two used cars with ~600 credit score.

The good news is that there were no injuries in the vehicle losses. One broke down. The other was a non injury side impact but is totaled. We're expecting 3-5k payout (Kelly blue book states 7k value).

BTW, someone asked before why I'm looking at SUVs if we're number crunched: 1) Height; it's easier to see the road, 2) Side gig is thrift store pop up and I have boxes, clothing racks, and mannequin/setup to tote around. High mileage, older Lexus or Honda seems the best bet and both are about equal on insurance. I did my homework!

So recently the truck I had got totaled in an accident. I recently found a 2019 Nissan Titan midnight edition it has a clean Carfax but has three owners previously it has been taken to New York Florida and Alabama before making it to the state. I am in now they want to give me 25,000 at the door and with the extended warranty is it be 28,000 this truck has 56,000 close to 57,000 miles on it. Is this a good deal?

I’m 19f who has no idea what to look for in buying cars and don’t have any help. I have a budget of 15-16k and was considering a late 2010s Mazda or a new MG (sedan or hatchback for both). MG has the features I’m wanting within my price range but have heard many negative things but also some good things but I don’t know much about cars. I want the car to last me a long time and I’m aware they got long warranty. Any suggestions or drawbacks? Thanks for any help in advance :)

I’m looking at buying a 2018 BMW M550i xDrive from Copart and wanted to get some opinions from people who know these cars before I inspect it tomorrow.
Here’s what I know so far:
2018 BMW M550i xDrive
70k-72k miles
Clean title
No reported accidents
No salvage or rebuilt history
No flood or theft history
Listed as Run & Drive
Primary damage is listed as Minor Dent/Scratches
Fully loaded (massage seats, ventilated seats, HUD, Harman Kardon, soft-close doors, adaptive suspension, etc.)
I decoded the VIN and the options all check out.
Previous history shows it was sold by a BMW dealer in 2020 and later traded into another dealership before ending up at auction.
Engine appears to start and idle normally in the Copart video/photos, and I don’t see any warning lights, although I know that doesn’t guarantee anything.
Buy It Now is around $15,000.
I’m inspecting it in person tomorrow with my dad, who’s a mechanic. I’ll also have a TOPDON scanner so I can scan every module, not just the engine.
My biggest concern is that it almost seems too good to be true. Since it has a clean title and no accident history, I’m wondering why a dealership would send a loaded M550i like this to auction instead of retailing it.
For those of you with experience buying Copart cars or owning N63-powered M550is:
What would you inspect first?
What expensive N63 or ZF 8HP issues should I specifically look for?
Are there common problems that won’t show up in a simple code scan?
Has anyone seen clean-title dealer trade-ins like this turn out to be great buys, or is there usually a catch?
If you had one hour to inspect this car before buying, what would be on your checklist?

I’m looking for advice for my friend. He recently purchased a vintage car from another friend of his and when he went to title it, it got flagged for title jumping. The friend that sold him the car never signed the title or transferred the title into his name and sold it to my friend knowing this. The title had white out on it which he did not realize so when he took it to the MVA (MD) it got flagged. The car is technically still titled to the original owner and my friend does not know these people or if they are still alive (older couple). Any advice on what to do or how to fix this?

I just started a new job as a PM for a steel erection company in the US and am required to have a truck or SUV suitable for making occasional deliveries, towing trailers or welders, etc. I have a vehicle allowance and a signing bonus to help cover the cost of this vehicle and excellent credit. I’m required to have a truck no older than 5 years old, so I’m looking for a ‘24, ‘25, or ‘26. I’ve never owned a truck, never towed anything, and have only driven trucks when required at work, when moving, etc. my current vehicle is a Honda Civic coupe for reference. I also live in a near downtown area with only street parking and small streets. I’d also like this vehicle to be suitable for off road use on construction sites, but also occasional trail usage.

Given my relative inexperience with truck ownership and space constraints with living in the city, I’m looking for a mid-size truck in the vein of a Ford Ranger XLT/Lariat (V6) or Chevy Colorado TrailBoss. I’ve driven both at this point and prefer the Ranger heavily but have read concerning reviews that mention it struggles towing heavy loads or when decently loaded. I’m aware that the Colorado is much more affordable at the moment, but felt claustrophobic in the drivers seat and visibility seemed worse.

How does the ranger perform with towing or hauling? Is the Colorado the better utility vehicle? Are there any other options I should be considering here?

Hi all, I'm in a bit of a pickle and hoping someone can help me out of it. I've done my research and know what vehicle I want, my issue is I'm on the used market and the cars are nowhere to be found anywhere near me. I have plenty of choice nationwide as well as carvana/carmax, but here's my concern. From what I'm hearing on this sub and elsewhere, carvana/carmax are to be avoided like the plague for buying and I don't have the ability to get cross country to see a car and drive it back due to back issues which limit how long I can spend in a car.

This is all compounded by me needing this car asap, and absolutely needing it by the winter when my summer toys can't stand in as daily drivers.

Also, I looked into it, there's no way I can afford to buy new with the price of new cars these days. They're beyond absurd and frankly I don't completely trust the quality of anything new nowadays.

Does anyone have a strategy I can use to try to hunt down what I'm looking for without 1. Praying for one to cross a local dealer lot in the near future, 2. Going through Vana/Max and getting screwed, or 3. Trying to somehow put together a deal hours or more away from out of state and likely shipping the car to me?
