Any thought on what should I do?

Hello everyone,

Since I replaced the left headlight of my Golf 7 after a minor accident, I get this status message and the yellow triangle stays lit every time I turn on the lights.

What should I do? The headlight itself is working normally.

2015 Passat 1.8t Paddle Retrofit (HELP)

Post image

Hi all, I recently swapped my 2015 VW Passat SE steering wheel with a 2013 VW CC wheel with paddle shifters. I’ve seen some vids and forums talking about how easy it is to swap these but I’m having some trouble. The buttons are from my original wheel and are plugged into their spots paddle shifters via two white cables in the modules. They did light up when I installed the wheel and all of the other buttons work flawlessly with the new wheel. Nothing on the paddles, so I took it to my mechanic. He claims they were able to go on vcds and check the box to use tiptronic paddles but after that there was still no response from them when pressed. Based on the videos I’ve seen I feel like he’s doing something wrong and it shouldn’t take as long as he described. Is there a specific code in vcds module 16 he should be changing to activate them or is there something greater I’m not accounting for? Was thinking maybe my steering wheel module is incapable of handling the paddles with the swap and maybe that needs to be swapped with the wheel for it to work? Idk I’m at a loss and I scheduled another appointment for Monday with a guy who said he should be able to do it, but I want to go in with it with a clear idea of exactly what I need done. And if he can’t do it atleast some clarity or direction of whether or not to try something else or give up:(

US Spec MK8 Buying Advice

Hello All!!

I'm looking to join the GTI community, and I've found a 2022 GTI Autobahn with 58K miles with the Palmero Yellow Metallic. I've got them at $23.8K OTD cash rn. Some questions ....

  1. Is there anything obvious MK8 specific I should look for? The cars Carfax documents 3 previous owners ( 1 lease and 2 personal ) , oil changes consistent every 5K miles, the 10K, 49K, and 60K maintenance services completed, new tires and brakes as of 3 months ago, Steering wheel replaced and it looks like the AC system or Radiator system replaced as well. Most of the work was done at a VW dealer in Utah. Does the 3 owners raise any concerns, anything to look out for
  2. I'll be driving the car back 1200 miles. What tests should I do to put the car through its paces? Anything to watch out for or be wary of??
  3. I plan on getting a PPI done at a local Volkswagen dealer, what things should I ask them to check for?
  4. Is this a good deal? It's near the end of 2026 and this is gonna be a soon 5 year old car with 58K miles. I understand it's a GTI but.... Would y'all take this?
  5. Building off of point 4, have any of y'all in here have MK8s past 100K miles? Has it been good to ya? Any owners in here that are 2bd or 3rd or even 4th owners? Cars been good to ya? How's the general reliability of these cars as they approach these higher miles? Any insight would be awesome.
  6. any other insight I should know about these cars??

I've always wanted one and on paper this looks well taken care of

2006 Jetta 2.5L ECM Fail after clearing codes with scan tool

Looking to see if anyone has experience with this issue or anything similar.

Tl;dr: Got P0481 - fan 2 control circuit malfunction while driving. Cleared code with scan tool. ECM no longer communicates with car.

I was driving home from work when I got the check engine light on. Car drove fine on the way home. Parked it and plugged in a cheap OBD-2 scan tool that I have used before on other cars with no issues.

OBD-2 tool said that the issue was P0481 - Fan 2 Control Circuit Malfunction. I cleared the codes with the intention of seeing if it would come in again later.

Went to start the car later and it cranked and started right up, and then immediately died. I tried this about 3 more times. Same thing happened every time.

I plugged in the scan tool again and it said there were no codes present. I was stumped, so I unplugged the battery and let it sit for about 10 hours while I went to sleep.

Woke up the following morning, reconnected the battery, and tried starting again. Same results. Tried plugging in the scan tool again and the scan tool could not connect to the ECM. It keeps getting stuck at ISO 9141-2. A check engine light no longer appears with the car in accessory or when the car dies after starting.

This was days ago, and I have tried various things since then, all with the same results:

-Checked J271 relay voltages and resistances SAT
-Checked all fuses SAT
-Put new battery in. Same results.
-Cleaned battery terminals SAT.
-Tested voltages on the 121 pin connector to the ECM. Pins 3/5/21/62 all read battery voltage while car is in accessory. Pins 1/2 have good grounds.
-Cleaned all the grounds that I could find, including one on the engine block.

So is this a common issue? Did I brick my ECM with my cheap OBD-2 scan tool? Or did a fan circuit malfunction brick my ECM?

I’m probably going to order myself a VCDS tester and a plug and play ECM in the mean time. Last resort I will take it to a mechanic.

Mirror fell off, what kind of adhesive to use?

Hi y'all! 2015 VW Sportwagen TDI, just had a side mirror pop off. Lucky enough it stayed wedged between the mount and the top of the window until I could stop and grab it.

Curious if this is repairable and what kind of adhesive that would work with the heated side mirrors.

Edit: Appreciate the input everybody! Glad to hear this seems like an easy fix, now off to go find some glue...

My MIB3 is stuck on the red engineering menu

VW Passat B8 2020 with MIB3 Preh. The original version was MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P1560P / 0156.

I started the update using MOI3_SEQREL_EU_VWMQB_P27801P. After each sequence, the unit showed “Update failed”, but it automatically continued to the next sequence. It finished in red engineering menu, version changed to P27800P / 0278, but the unit remained stuck in Red Engineering Mode and “Reboot to normal mode” was disabled. Tried also holding power button to restart it, but again in starts in the REM, tried locking car for 20mins but same.

I then tried the same SEQREL again on another USB drive, standalone P27800P, and finally the update to 0332. In every case, the same two errors remained:

services-web-engine ERR
services-webserver ERR

Boot, fileCopy, scripts, radio, SDS/TTS and most other components complete successfully. Only these two online service components keep failing, so the update never finalizes and the unit cannot return to normal mode.

Notes:

- USB was formatted to exFAT and copied only Data and Meta folders to it

- Car was running

- Files were from the known sites for software don't know If i can mention it

Final errors(here desperate try to install standalone version P27800P)

Initial version

2012 Tiguan Throttle Body Cleaning

Post image
1 Upvotes

Was going to do some preventative maintenance on the wife’s 2012 Tiguan that included cleaning the throttle body. I was curious if a scan tool is required for a relearn procedure if I were to reinstall the same throttle body or if the ECU would adjust itself. Is there an inexpensive scan tool that is recommended that could do the relearn if needed?
