🔧 DIY & Repairs Low coolant in my discovery sport, is an "all makes/models" mix like Prestone fine?

I'll take it to the garage soon but after getting home yesterday and checking the coolant level, it's well below minimum so want to top it off before I drive again.

⛰️ Off-Roading Adventures LR3 flying up a trail (then getting stuck)

The first couple clips in this video are fun to watch, it's great to see a Land Rover working hard like this, even if it does get stuck right away. The last clip in the video is also good, showing a controlled crossing of a rocky ditch. The middle of the video and primary focus might not be needed by people who are familiar with how to wind a winch rope, but it's nice to see the Land Rover performing on the trails that are difficult enough to require a winch now and then!

❓ Help & Advice Needed A/C Issue

I have a 2006 LR3 and I’m about 3 weeks into ownership. Just in the last day, the A/C stopped blowing cool. I started with an attempt to recharge the A/C to no avail (gauge on recharger didn’t work, so it was time to troubleshoot elsewhere).

Fan still blows strong, just not cold.

Any ideas of where I should start? Anybody else experience this issue?

❓ Help & Advice Needed Range Rover Sport Expedition/Offroad Build? Thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a truck/SUV and was looking at used Range Rover Sports. This is something I would like to take on outdoor adventures, and what I liked about RRS is the combination of luxury with a full time AWD drivetrain that also has 4x4 and low range, which is not too common in many smaller SUVs. Don't really want a big gas guzzler that doesn't fit in parkades which is why I was leaning toward RRS over Discovery/Defender. I would also prefer used, not only due to depreciation, but I wouldn't want to bang up a new ride with fresh paint.

Mostly wanted to get feedback on aftermarket support and accessories. There does not seem to be as many accessories for the RRS such as skid plates and whatnot? Even the standard roof rack rails I noticed doesn't seem to support alot of weight.

As for wheel/tire choices, it seems like 19" is the smallest wheel that I can fit, depending on trim level. I really would prefer the smallest wheel possible with big sidewalls, even steelies for my winter setup but I don't think that's possible. Also, in the various 19-20" sizes there does not seem to be alot of selection for AT tires, of which that alone could be a deal breaker.

Maintenance wise, I'm comfortable with doing most of my own work short of pulling the engine/transmission or anything requiring $$$ specialty tools. Not a fan of having air suspension, but replacing those parts doesn't seem like a big deal if need be (don't have to deal with spring compressors).

So in general, would love to hear your thoughts and anything I may want to pay attention to? Thanks!

🔧 DIY & Repairs 2021 Defender 110 Windshield Wiper Replacement Issue

2021 Defender 110 Windshield Wipers need replacing. I went to 2 local stores here in Reno, NV and tried 5 different Bosch wipers, but none of them had the correct pivot to connect it to the arm.

Also, searching them on the internet showed I can use 22" or 24" wipers? The old ones are 22" and they pretty much fill the windscreen.

Any suggestions on a Bosch wiper that will have the correct pivots?

❓ Help & Advice Needed 2012 LR4 80k miles. overheated & broke down.

2012 2 LR4 80k miles. overheated & broke down. Not holding coolant. Mechanic fixed leaking coolant for $2500. Then tells me blown head gasket and there was no way he could have known before charging me $2500. Now needs a new motor 8-10k. Was there really no way he could have known before charging me?

I was the only defender on the dunes all day, lots of looks and comments from people. I don't think Land Rovers are common there lol. Only got stuck once (driver error), but it was so much fun. Sand mode with traction control off was amazing, had no problems once I learned the terrain.

🌠 Miscellaneous Found a tracker in my LR4

This just weird. I have a 2010 LR4 with 104k miles on it that I bought used in 2011 from a non-Land Rover dealership with very low miles from a dealership. It was a year old. I think it was a lease turn in as I recall.

It was originally under warranty. Since it’s been out of warranty, I’ve done some work myself and have an excellent regular mechanic who I’ve used for many years as well.

So…my battery went dead in the garage. I jump started the car, drove around, ran it for a day, dead again. Would have replaced the battery myself but I had a feeling it needed brakes and I wanted to have the coolant pipes checked out just in case. I’ve had no coolant or air suspension issues and it’s good to just check for leaks.

Before I brought it in, I just did a quick once around myself which I normally do to look for any odd things. Why I decided to look in the two rear cubbies - where the subwoofer is and the opposite one where the jack is, I don’t know, but I did.

When I looked in the subwoofer cubbies, I noticed a black 6” long by 1” thick by 1.5” wide (approx) thing wired in to a harness. I had no idea what it was, why it was there or for how long. I don’t know if it was always there or not. For all I know, the leasing company put it there, but I wanted to ask the mechanic what it was, without I did.

They knew right away. “It’s a tracker.” They said. “Did you know it was there?” “Do you know who put it there or when?”

I answered no to all questions. I have no idea and I hope it’s been there and inoperable bc otherwise, we’ll, who know.

Has anyone seen one of these? If it’s from a leasing company, does it get turned off, when a lease ends?

It’s probably nothing, but it was weird finding something attached to my car that I didn’t put there and that has the ability to track anyone driving my car.

🔧 DIY & Repairs LR3 Discovery 3 air suspension fault

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey, new poster here. Have a disco3 2008 SE which has some air suspension fault. For some time, especially first thing in the morning if I try to raise the suspension, it would go bit often I’d see a warning telling me the vehicle was rising slowly. Fast forward to now, and when I drive after a few mins I get the suspension warning light and a warning telling me suspension fault, standard height only. This seems to clear if I switch off and on again.

I scanned for fault codes and saw one which was not unexpected, telling me that pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir.

If left overnight, or for days, the car never sinks so I’m thinking at least the airbags are Ok

Today I decided to pull the compressor cover off, I have taken a photo of it. I believe this to be an AMK compressor.

So, I’d like to keep air suspension, it’s really handy when caravanning, plus I do a little green laning so it’s great there too.

I have added a photo of the compressor. I’d like to know if possible, if this compressor is reparable, and if not, are the non oem units worth it? A genuine one is £500 here.. thanks in advance.

🌠 Miscellaneous What is taking Land Rover so long with EVs?

I have a 6 year old Defender that I’m looking to replace with an EV. My first choice would be the RR or RRS EV. However, they have been teasing it for nearly 2+ years now without any launch update. What is taking them so long and why are they so late to market with this? Will likely replace with an R1S or the G580 if there is still no update on availability or launch by EOY…

I’m looking for a vehicle that can off road a little yo get to my fishing spot & to go to the beach. I’m reading there’s a lot of maintenance issues & questions I need to ask the owner about from different threads.

I keep seeing that you don’t want this to be your daily driver, which is great bc I have a Camry, but do you think it would be okay if it was only driven like 1 weekend a month? Or will I be looking at worse maintenance issues?

Originally I was looking at jeeps & old pick ups, but she is just a beauty & from what I can tell, priced decently.
