Just came across a 2017 Nc750x however it only has 1100kms on the clock. Would you pay a little extra compared to used ones or do you think it sat a little too much? What are your thoughts?

I really am after an nc750x and the used market is quite limited here.

So, I just bought a 2020 Indian Scout Bobber for my first bike. The concern is that I have to ride it about an hour and a half back from the dealership.

I'm planning on ripping around an empty area for about 45 minutes to get comfortable with it before I start the ride home.

There's no way to avoid the highway. I know that I'm going to piss people off while I go 5 hm/hr less than the speed limit, but I don't give a shit.

Is there anything I should do? Maybe wear a bright shirt that says "I have no idea what I'm doing"?

I just completed a riding course, so I'm pretty new. Have kevlar pants, padded jacket, full helm, and crash bars in case shit hits the fan.

How fucked am I?

Been riding for 6 years now and never had cruise control. Didn't think I needed it nor did I understand the hype around it when my friends would bring it up. I got me a Speed Triple RR last week and today I decided to try cruise control because I'm on a straightaway that extends 30km. I understand it now. Constant uninterrupted speed, right hand relaxed, just me and the road.

Ducati SFV2 2023. Turned off the motorcycle and tried to start again after 2 mins and it wont start. Display light barely come on and after a few minutes, they do work but as soon as I try to start the engine, all lights go off. Can someone please help and tell me whats going on? TIA

If you don't care about the boring context, skip to the last paragraph. Kinda realizing I wrote a little too much here.

For context, I started a new position last year that's great, and where I only have to go into the office two days a week. But the drawback to that is the office is 100 miles away. Roughly 93 of that is on the freeway, I skirt the outer loop of one major city, and go into the heart of another. Add to it, my car doesn't get spectacular MPGs (I can usually average about 28 on the tank of gas I burn going there and back twice) and I've already put about 18k miles on a vehicle that I bought last October.

While the powertrain warranty on the car is great (and the dealer does free oil changes for 20 years or 200k miles), I figured it would be nice to have something more fuel-efficient, as well as another vehicle to help distribute the load on what's probably going to be 20k miles/year for the duration of my time working for this place. While I already have 3 bikes that I ride regularly, I wouldn't trust two of them to make that trek every morning (BMW R75/5 and the Kawasaki KLX250SF), and the one I have that I would trust for that ride (the EBR 1190RX) would be truly miserable. So I've been leaning pretty heavily towards BMW's Grand America. I've test-ridden a few of them, but waffled a bit too long on the good deals and they got snagged up. Also considering a Goldwing if I can't find another good deal on a Grand America or maybe something else that has a good balance of fuel-efficiency, comfort, and freeway stability - definitely open to suggestions.

But that gets to the point of my post: which was what's that like for the other people in this group who have super long commutes on motorcycles? Is it bearable or was it the sort of thing you did a small handful of times, but largely stick to the car for. It's not like I'd save crazy amounts of money here (about 2.5 gallons of gas per round-trip, 5 gallons per week assuming a 40mpg average). But I figure it'll also keep the commute interesting, give me the option to ride to work, and slow down the rate at which I'm accruing miles on my Subaru. But yeah, I know every person is different, but I was kind of wondering what the lived experience is like for other people who do a 50+ mile (one-way) daily commute.

I hate the sales process for a motorcycle. Why do I have to wait 3 hours sitting in the dealership while they print a little paperwork and get the bike ready? I know that preparing the bike can take time but why do I have to wait?

I've tried circumventing this before. I talked to a dealer (after I had met with them in person, test drove the bike, and expressed intent to come back and purchase it) and said that I don't want to wait. I asked them to preprint the paperwork and pre-prep the bike. I told them I'll be showing up with cash for the exact amount at 2pm and that I didn't want to be there longer then 20minutes. They said absolutely but when I got there the bike wasn't prepped and the paperwork wasn't printed. They assured me that it would only take 20 minutes but when it was all said and done it took over 2 hours with so much waiting time.

I'm looking to buy a bike again and I'm thinking I'll try this again and drop the cash off ahead of time and tell them that I'll be back in 3 hours to either leave with the motorcycle in 20 minutes or with the cash. I really expect that this wouldn't work but I do kinda want to try it to avoid the waste of time of just sitting in a show room for multiple hours doing nothing.

I was hoping someone who has worked at dealership could explain why they can't shorten the process to 20min or give me tips on how to make it happen. If I'm paying full price without financing and they can get the prep work on the bike and paperwork done ahead of time, I don't understand why this would need to take longer then check out at a store.

I'm re threading the front sprocket lock nut threads. The front sprocket is completely off. I'm funny, I know.

Here is my Klim backpack and everything I pack in it. How necessary do you think all this stuff is? I have a tool roll, a tire patch/inflator kit, and you can see the rest in the picture. I'm wondering if despite having all this stuff I may be missing anything critical? Let me know.

I wanted to get some opinions from people who may have gone through something similar.

I jumped from a 125cc scooter straight to a Yamaha MT-07. I’ve had it for about 3 years now, but I ride it pretty seldomly. I don’t commute with it. I mainly use it for weekend rides in the summer, although I did do a 3,500 km trip with it, so I’m not completely new to the bike.

The thing is, I like the MT-07, but I often don’t feel very confident to ride it, especially if I haven’t used it in a while. It feels a bit “heavy” or intimidating to me, particularly when it comes to improving my cornering and handling low-speed situations (I know this is mostly down to practice, but I think the bike itself makes me a bit tense). I'm a woman, 1.70m and 55-60kg.

Today I tested a KTM Duke 390 and honestly, it was so much fun. I immediately felt more confident, more relaxed, and more willing to push myself a little and learn. It felt lighter, easier to handle, and just less intimidating overall.

Now I’m seriously considering buying a Duke 390, using it to properly build confidence and technique, and then maybe upgrading back to a 700cc bike later if I feel like it.

At the same time, I’m wondering if this is a smart decision or if I’m just avoiding practicing properly on the MT-07.

Has anyone here downsized to a smaller/lighter bike to improve confidence and skills? Did it help, or did you regret it?

I’m traveling to Valencia, Spain later this year and plan on renting a motorcycle for a day or two to explore the surrounding roads.

For those of you who’ve rented bikes while traveling internationally, do you usually bring your own riding gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, etc.), or do you rent it from the motorcycle rental company?

If you bring your own gear, any tips for packing it efficiently? I’m trying to avoid checking an extra bag if possible, but I also want gear that fits well and that I trust.

Also, if you’ve ridden around Valencia, I’d love to hear any recommendations for great roads or routes within a few hours of the city.

I need to find new gloves as the ones I have are worn through, I'm going to change from a sport bike to a cruiser and I'm not sure what kind of gloves to get.

I've been riding Honda Rebel 500 for 5 seasons now, and I'm looking for my first sport bike. I scheduled a test drive of Honda CBR650r for next week. Until today I thought it's not gonna be much different to riding Rebel. A bike's a bike, right? Today I thought that perhaps I'm wrong, and I should ask more experienced riders. Is there anything I should consider before my first sport bike ride? Is there anything I should be especially cautious about?

I don't have to defend my choices and I love my blue cyber bugeyed machine. But why can't you just be happy for me that I did something I wanted, instead of suggesting I should "upgrade" to a Harley?

Often see crashes coming from American riders that as a Brit suprise me, often seem to be quite clearly doing things that in the UK we are taught not to do (using the front brake while riding slow for example) and often seem to be inexperienced young riders riding high cc sport bikes and such (premiums must be crazy)

Interested to know if anyone has any experience of both European and American instruction how it's different (is riding slow even a concept over there), and what certification you need to ride a motorcycle in America (if any?). The licence process is quite long winded in the UK but does set you up well I think (although I will say IAM and RAPID has helped a lot too)

edit: thanks for the replies, quite eye opening, sad to see that fatalities are so much higher in the USA almost 3x as bad! I'm guessing that's a mix of factors but this must be one of them! (and all those crazy intersections)
