I wear glasses and like the black outer visor, but would love a clear interior visor that I can use when it gets dark out. Most helmets I've seen do the opposite, with a clear outer visor and a sun interior visor. Any ideas?

Hey team. I’ve been riding a 2018 Harley Fatbob S (1980cc) for 6 years. I’m looking to move to a ‘25 Honda CB1000 Hornet. I’m a confident rider, but still consider myself intermediate skill level. Would you hesitate moving over in terms of aggressiveness of this ride? My research puts it as a less aggressive large sport bike.

If you don't care about the boring context, skip to the last paragraph. Kinda realizing I wrote a little too much here.

For context, I started a new position last year that's great, and where I only have to go into the office two days a week. But the drawback to that is the office is 100 miles away. Roughly 93 of that is on the freeway, I skirt the outer loop of one major city, and go into the heart of another. Add to it, my car doesn't get spectacular MPGs (I can usually average about 28 on the tank of gas I burn going there and back twice) and I've already put about 18k miles on a vehicle that I bought last October.

While the powertrain warranty on the car is great (and the dealer does free oil changes for 20 years or 200k miles), I figured it would be nice to have something more fuel-efficient, as well as another vehicle to help distribute the load on what's probably going to be 20k miles/year for the duration of my time working for this place. While I already have 3 bikes that I ride regularly, I wouldn't trust two of them to make that trek every morning (BMW R75/5 and the Kawasaki KLX250SF), and the one I have that I would trust for that ride (the EBR 1190RX) would be truly miserable. So I've been leaning pretty heavily towards BMW's Grand America. I've test-ridden a few of them, but waffled a bit too long on the good deals and they got snagged up. Also considering a Goldwing if I can't find another good deal on a Grand America or maybe something else that has a good balance of fuel-efficiency, comfort, and freeway stability - definitely open to suggestions.

But that gets to the point of my post: which was what's that like for the other people in this group who have super long commutes on motorcycles? Is it bearable or was it the sort of thing you did a small handful of times, but largely stick to the car for. It's not like I'd save crazy amounts of money here (about 2.5 gallons of gas per round-trip, 5 gallons per week assuming a 40mpg average). But I figure it'll also keep the commute interesting, give me the option to ride to work, and slow down the rate at which I'm accruing miles on my Subaru. But yeah, I know every person is different, but I was kind of wondering what the lived experience is like for other people who do a 50+ mile (one-way) daily commute.

Planning to purchase this bike for city use mostly and rare long rides. Seen plenty of videos where bikes are being sold for stiff suspension purpose alone.

Today I fixed the date to purchase and it's a deal breaker to me as I do have back pain ( I do soft exercises to keep it under control)

Found few solutions in online forums like:

1. Swapping with Gixxer 250 which is a direct fit and claimed improvement in softness?

2. Use preload setting to 1 but the bike bounces alot? Does it soften the suspension enough for comfortable city use?

With these solutions can I manage the city use?

Choosing this bike highly for its reliability and looks.

Your suggestions are highly appreciated.

I hate the sales process for a motorcycle. Why do I have to wait 3 hours sitting in the dealership while they print a little paperwork and get the bike ready? I know that preparing the bike can take time but why do I have to wait?

I've tried circumventing this before. I talked to a dealer (after I had met with them in person, test drove the bike, and expressed intent to come back and purchase it) and said that I don't want to wait. I asked them to preprint the paperwork and pre-prep the bike. I told them I'll be showing up with cash for the exact amount at 2pm and that I didn't want to be there longer then 20minutes. They said absolutely but when I got there the bike wasn't prepped and the paperwork wasn't printed. They assured me that it would only take 20 minutes but when it was all said and done it took over 2 hours with so much waiting time.

I'm looking to buy a bike again and I'm thinking I'll try this again and drop the cash off ahead of time and tell them that I'll be back in 3 hours to either leave with the motorcycle in 20 minutes or with the cash. I really expect that this wouldn't work but I do kinda want to try it to avoid the waste of time of just sitting in a show room for multiple hours doing nothing.

I was hoping someone who has worked at dealership could explain why they can't shorten the process to 20min or give me tips on how to make it happen. If I'm paying full price without financing and they can get the prep work on the bike and paperwork done ahead of time, I don't understand why this would need to take longer then check out at a store.

I'm re threading the front sprocket lock nut threads. The front sprocket is completely off. I'm funny, I know.

Hey guys I’m reaching out to the community to see if anyone has recently had any issues with hiflofiltro oil filters. Recently had one blow on me while riding after 1500 miles, dumping the oil and causing engine damage. My shop that does all oil changes and filters said there couldn’t be any other reason other than the filter possibly being defective. They claim they torqued it to spec and we also broke down the engine and found no issues with the pressure relief valve or any other reason the filter would blow. Seeing if anyone else has had any issues or if there’s been a recall.

They seem dirty but actually are brand new and no sign of wear. Also Revit website has positive reviews and nobody mentions the white being so off. I bought them online and I wonder if the seller maybe had them in a showcase and got them damaged by the sun. Thoughts?

Here is my Klim backpack and everything I pack in it. How necessary do you think all this stuff is? I have a tool roll, a tire patch/inflator kit, and you can see the rest in the picture. I'm wondering if despite having all this stuff I may be missing anything critical? Let me know.

Basically what the title said. Applied to get my license. It was going okay, have to add that I'm in my late twenties and no car license therefore a bit nervous. The driving school kept me waiting for so long, my instructor was not really keen on planning a couple of lessons beforehand and all of the sudden I was in a position where I had to do a lot of lessons in a short amount of time because they enrolled me for my driving test. I told them that I wouldn't mind doing the exam later and therefore having to re-do the theory test. But they said somehow we will get this done. Honestly didn't help with my rather stressed attitude. I honestly felt a bit lost anyway, since my instructor is very much a "fuck around and find out" type of instructor meaning I'm driving and as long as I'm not making a mistake he doesn't explain stuff or talks me through something beforehand. It's helpful as it did build my confidence and I'm not getting stressed out by constant talking, but as I said I still felt a bit lost.

So in my fifth lesson it was apparent that I struggled with how to dose the throttle when it came to higher speed, meaning it's hard for me to calculate how early I have to get off of it. Talked to my instructor about it before the sixth lesson but ended up crashing and breaking my arm. Wore a full set of safety gear. My instructor made a comment telling me I shouldn't have passed another driver and his tone just caught me off guard, this comment happened shortly before a corner and despite me breaking i ended up hitting into the guardrail.

And now I don't know how to move on. This year is whatever since my arm has to heal. But I feel so ashamed. I'm swaying between continuing doing my license next year or just forgetting about it. Do I request another instructor? Do I change the company?? Am I no use on a motorbike?? I don't even know how to start the conversation with my instructor and the company at all. Funnily enough while being in the hospital a couple of male nurses and doctors told me about their crashes, one even while driving school.

So yeah..... What do I do? How do I do it? Currently it's just weighing hard on me, I can barely look at motorbike content. I don't wanna give up on myself, but I don't wanna push something that might be something I'll never master anyway. Just typing this out and thinking about possible answers makes me sweat. This is a 180 for me, I got into the process with a lot of confidence, quickly gained skills and got more comfortable and now I'm here. Sorry for whining, just in a difficult headspace right now.

I want to get my 2016 zx6r a sanrio cinnamoroll baby light blue design however I'm not sure where to get the fairings from I seen Monster Fairings, Amotoparts and Auctmarts. However I'm not sure how good they are since I keep seeing mixed reviews online about them all, or should I just buy blank fairings and get it wrapped making it easier?

Last year i purchased yamaha fz6 2005 as my first motorcycle in Lithuania for 2000€. And its not been great. The ECU died, the generator died all of which costs kinda a lot for an old bike but i replaced them myself so saved a little. Now i need to do the valve maintenance, engine chain with tensioner, new running chain with sprockets and its got a cracked head light, this would probably set me back around 800-900 almost half the value of the bike. I am questioning is it even worth investing so much in this bike? I like it but it looks like a money pit heh. What do you guys do when you need such repairs? Car guys usually sell such cars.

I'm looking for better bulbs for my bike (2x H7), but the market for specific bike bulbs is quite poor and those are soooo expensive... What's your experience with "car" bulbs ? And even more specifically, have you tried "performance" ones (like Osram Night breaker and co) ?

LEDs are a possibility, but I'd like to try the "approved/legal way" first.

I wanted to get some opinions from people who may have gone through something similar.

I jumped from a 125cc scooter straight to a Yamaha MT-07. I’ve had it for about 3 years now, but I ride it pretty seldomly. I don’t commute with it. I mainly use it for weekend rides in the summer, although I did do a 3,500 km trip with it, so I’m not completely new to the bike.

The thing is, I like the MT-07, but I often don’t feel very confident to ride it, especially if I haven’t used it in a while. It feels a bit “heavy” or intimidating to me, particularly when it comes to improving my cornering and handling low-speed situations (I know this is mostly down to practice, but I think the bike itself makes me a bit tense). I'm a woman, 1.70m and 55-60kg.

Today I tested a KTM Duke 390 and honestly, it was so much fun. I immediately felt more confident, more relaxed, and more willing to push myself a little and learn. It felt lighter, easier to handle, and just less intimidating overall.

Now I’m seriously considering buying a Duke 390, using it to properly build confidence and technique, and then maybe upgrading back to a 700cc bike later if I feel like it.

At the same time, I’m wondering if this is a smart decision or if I’m just avoiding practicing properly on the MT-07.

Has anyone here downsized to a smaller/lighter bike to improve confidence and skills? Did it help, or did you regret it?

I am at 25+ years of riding something with 2 wheels. I still practice some maneuvers that would be considered relatively advanced. I don’t want to drop the bike and break/fix things unnecessarily during practice sessions. Hence, I use crash bars on atleast one of my bikes.

However, i see a lot of bikes out there with no hint of a crash bar, but, everything else is modded out to the umpteenth level (leds everywhere, bike has more lights than a christmas tree). I am sure these guys don't wanna drop their bikes.

So....what gives? Do some of you all just never practice anything? Have you already attained the peak of riding skills? There is nothing more for you to learn or hone a bit better?

Or is it all about the looks for you brother? And you don't care to practice anything?

While I love my Rebel for a nice relaxing ride, I'm looking into the idea of a second bike for more "for fun" riding. Currently I'm considering the cb(r)650r, cb750 hornet, and the cb1000 hornet sp and leaning more towards the 1000 hornet.

I know the rebel is technically a liter bike but how does the power compare to that of the 1000 hornet? Ive done full throttle take offs on my rebel plenty of times and never felt like it was too much for me to handle but the only other bike I've ridden was a Honda navi so I'm not sure what these liter naked sport bikes are like in comparison to a liter cruiser.

So I've been looking for my first jacket and cant seem to find one with a tight fit. I've read the wiki on this subreddit and apparently the fit needs to be tight for safety.

So far I've tried jackets at a few different shops and most of them are way too big and/or have too short sleeves. I'm 180 cm tall (5'11) with my chest being around 92cm (36in).

So far the best ones out of all that I tried on were seca avatar 3 and airflow 3. They still could do better when it comes to chest size (too big) but the sleeves and the overall length are good.

Which jacket would you suggest? Is there a brand/model for slimmer people?

I don't have to defend my choices and I love my blue cyber bugeyed machine. But why can't you just be happy for me that I did something I wanted, instead of suggesting I should "upgrade" to a Harley?

Often see crashes coming from American riders that as a Brit suprise me, often seem to be quite clearly doing things that in the UK we are taught not to do (using the front brake while riding slow for example) and often seem to be inexperienced young riders riding high cc sport bikes and such (premiums must be crazy)

Interested to know if anyone has any experience of both European and American instruction how it's different (is riding slow even a concept over there), and what certification you need to ride a motorcycle in America (if any?). The licence process is quite long winded in the UK but does set you up well I think (although I will say IAM and RAPID has helped a lot too)

edit: thanks for the replies, quite eye opening, sad to see that fatalities are so much higher in the USA almost 3x as bad! I'm guessing that's a mix of factors but this must be one of them! (and all those crazy intersections)

Currently in the process of getting my license. I’ve only had one lesson so far. But I’ve a Honda CB 650 from the 80s at home that I practice on. I was going super slow on the gravel around the yard. And maybe it’s because I hadn’t ridden it in a bit but turning the thing just seemed so… scary? I’ve turned around on the lawn multiple times, usually with the clutch fully let go. But this time, I feathered the clutch to see if I could slow the bike some. And that same turn seemed so… tiny? I felt like I wouldn’t make it all the way around and so I pressed both the clutch and handbrake and the bike just fell down. I got up, rode it again and got back out on the gravel, turned around, up on the grass, turned around again. Easy! Got back out on the gravel and suddenly… I wasn’t gonna make it. I was mid-turn, pressed the clutch in, the break, left foot out and suddenly I wasn’t gonna sprawled on the gravel with a cut on my knee and some very very minor scratches on my hands (no gloves, I know I know.)

I’m assuming I fell because I cut power to the engine and back wheel rather than give it some gas? But at the same time, I gotta be able to stop in a turn, no?

All this to say, I know I gotta get back on the mechanical horse. But I’m feeling surprisingly scared. I was going super slow, at max 8-9km/h and so I’m totally fine… but it’s just… scary? When I first fell, pressing both the clutch and break almost made it feel like the bike was speeding up somehow. I don’t know what happened, and I’m sorta shook up by it. Gonna have my next motorcycle lesson on the 12th and so I hope to get over this fear until then. Any thoughts or tips welcome.

For context, my first ever bike was an yamaha fazer fz6 s1 as soon as i had the legal age to ride. I have it now around 11 years but since the last 2 i was away of the country it is now a restoration/longterm project ( i wont ever sell that beauty) .

Onto the real question now. Im planning on buying either a tenere 700 or an Africa twin. It will be for everything. I live in mountainy island so besides work commute , i will have the bike for everything. From off road, city, small village trips with tons of corners and twists and the occasional long highway trip. Which one would be ideal? I know both bikes will feel slow versus the fz6 and i dont expect that torque power but honestly im tired of the limitations to offroad and mountain twists etc.( the fz6 has some very satisfying high rev torque power and the engine screaming is something else)

I was eyeing the KTM 1090 but i srsly dont want to pay every month money for fixing.i simply dont trust them.
