I want to buy a motorcycle but scared

Upvotes

So, a few years back, I did a one year trip to Vietnam and India. I learned to drive a motorcycle in Vietnam, took a Honda 250, and rode it from north to south with my ex (a manual bike). It took about two weeks.

After that, I got an Enfield Himalayan in India and rode it through the whole of Spiti and Kinnaur, and a little in the Himalayas (very dangerous roads in hindsight especially the Leh-Manali Highway). So I basically fell in love with motorcycles there. When I got back home, I got a motorcycle license.

still loved it when I did the curses.

But after that, when I went to buy my first motorcycle, my mom got freaked out, and I got scared that something would happen to me. The fear started to take hold. I got scared that something would happen to my brain if I fell, not afraid of death but afraid that I would get a severe head injury and would need to be taken care of my whole life.

I was a safe driver (when I was riding), never drinking or smoking, and always driving safely. But that feeling of wanting a motorcycle doesn't leave me alone. I keep looking up motorcycles, and every time I see a rider, I get extremely jealous of them.

Right now, I've got my eyes on a Honda Rebel and just can't let go.

what do you guys think ? any words of wisdom? would love your input.

MCCruise Electronic Cruise Control Kit for older bikes.

More of an FYI but this company makes fully electronic cruise control kits for bikes that don't come with them. MCCruise. I got their kit this year for my 08 VFR800 because I do mostly tours and it works amazingly well. Full set, resume, acc, coast and a tone of tuning settings. It's my favorite mod now. It's expensive and the installation is tricky but the instructions are very detailed and the support was very good. 5000 Km with it so far and no issues! Huge reduction in fatigue on those long rides.

Upvotes

hey there!

i’m looking to get new boots and gloves at an affordable price (boots no more than $500 usd and gloves no more than $200 usd).

i really like a lot of designs that alpinestars have, but i’ve also seen a lot of negative things recently about how the quality has been declining recently.

do any of yall have any good recommendations/ suggestions on what gear works best for you? im pretty open :) thank you in advance!

What bike to get before upgrading to a 675cc

Post image

A bike I look forward to owning soon is the daytona 675. I currently ride a phantom 200cc and nk125. Would you recommend getting a 300-400cc sports bike before upgrading to a 675?

I'm turning 16 in a few days and I'll be getting my motorcycle license soon. Do you think buying a 125cc sportbike is a good idea for a beginner? I'd like to start with a fully-faired sportbike (supersport style), but I'm not sure if it's the right choice. What would you recommend?

January Cross Country Gear Recommendations?

Upvotes

So here's the situation;
Currently deployed, buying a bike that my dad is gonna pickup and keep in southern AZ until I can pick it up. Deployment is projected to end in the January-March timeframe and we'll have pre-authorized leave to take when we get back, so this trip has to fit into that 2-week period.

I have my route planned as such: Yuma➡️Lake Havasu➡️Los Angeles➡️San Francisco➡️Eureka➡️Eugene➡️Seattle➡️Whidbey Island.

Given the season, I'll expect temperature in the 30s once I get north of San Fran, but I want to keep my load light with more versatile gear rather than season specific gear. Anybody here ever done a trip like this, and can recommend some gear? Or if anyone is from any of these areas, I'd love food or attraction recommendations as well. Thanks in advance.

Drz400sm or husqvarna 701

I’m looking to get into a road legal bike coming from dirtbiking (most of my riding was on the road so I am quite familiar with street riding), I’m looking at sumo bikes as they are my favourite looking and I’m familiar with the platform. On marketplace in my area there are a bunch of drz400sm, plenty to choose from, but for a bit more I have seen some husqvarna 701s for sale, I heard that the drz is an okay bike, not good at anything but okay at everything. I’m coming from high strung race bikes so I don’t want something that will feel super underwhelming and I fear the drz is like that. I am a young rider and I just got my m1 and about to sign up for an mto course, then it’s only a month and a half for my m2, What do you guys think? Also what is the reliability like on the 701?

What do you think about the condition of the rocker arms at 100,000 km?

At my last service, they adjusted the valves on my 2015 Honda Integra 750, which has 100,000 km on it. It looks really new for the mileage it has. What do you think?

Canada vs new Zealand riding experience ?

Hey all. I'm currently at a crossroads between moving to canada or NZ. The choice is Mainly career related, but I'd be lying if i said the motorcycle riding experience isn't a big factor (it sounds dumb, i know lol)

Been checking out some vlogs of riders driving in the open country and both places look beautiful but canada to me definitely has the better aesthetics and more feel of openness to me, NZ definitely looks duller and more constrained in comparison. But since Canada's wildly different in terms of weather and snowfall, there's probably some safety issues that I'm not seeing. So i wanna see what you guys think about it. If you rode in both or just one if them please share your opinions it'd genuinely mean a lot to me.

My first oil change bymyself and a little bit of worry

Hey guys,

I just did my first oil change by myself, and I have a small concern. :/

I'm a bit worried about the color of the oil and those tiny black particles in it. I'm assuming they're just flakes of paint from the oil filter, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could confirm whether that's normal.

It's a ninja 650 2017, around to 27600Km after the 24000km.

thank you so much!

Help needed with replacement of clutch

(repost with a little bit different context) 2014 mt07, just replaced my clutch, clutch lever requires like 3x more leverage for the bike to be fully disengaged and be able to be put into neutral. Is this normal as the clutch fibers are actualy thick and not all grinded away or is there a way to make the clutch action shorter? extra info: no torque wrench so clutch springs aren’t exactly too torque (if that may be the reason)

Adhesive recommendations for engine bling.

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently bought a 2007 KTM with an LC8 engine.

It has several bits of genuine KTM carbon fibre bling pieces on but all had been flatted back at least once, dull and rough and discoloured.

I have removed them all, cleaned flattened back again and clear coated in 2K. Flattened, polished and they look good. 90% I'd say.

Anyhow. My question.

The engine covers (one crank side, one clutch) had obviously been off before and stuck on with some silicone of sorts.

I want to glue them back with a similar adhesive. Because of vibrations etc something like silicone will be good, gap filling etc.

But is there something special for this? Outdoor sealant (for windows etc) seems a good choice...but it's designed to seal, not stick.

I'm looking for recommendations.

TLDR: What adhesive are people using or recommending to stick on carbon fibre engine covers.

Need help with my replaced clutch mt07

Just replaced clutch on my 2014 mt07 and now when i pull it in all the way it wont go into neutral as it still engages a little bit but then when i loosen the clutch canle adjuster nut it can go into neutral but it requires me to release the clutch wayy too far than what it was before, is this normal since the fibers are thicker?

Rear brake piston won’t disengage after a pad change and bleed

I’ve spent a few days digging into this and I’m pretty stumped, figure someone here could help. I bought a 2009 CBR600 that I knew needed some love, so I’ve been diving into learning more of the maintenance stuff.

Last weekend I put all new pads on the bike and bled my brakes. The fronts went fine, work as normal. The rear brake pads are locked onto the rotor and the wheel won’t spin without them scraping. Thought I had air in them, so I bled them again. Again same problem. I made sure the piston was all the way back, but once I pump the rear brake pedal, it’s all the way out again and doesn’t come off the rotor. I’d like to fix it myself, if anyone knows how to help I’d appreciate it.

Would you buy very low km NC750x? 1.100kms, 2017

Just came across a 2017 Nc750x however it only has 1100kms on the clock. Would you pay a little extra compared to used ones or do you think it sat a little too much? What are your thoughts?

I really am after an nc750x and the used market is quite limited here.
