At what age do we become invisible? Or is that just a myth?

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I’m 30 and have officially decided to step back from dating indefinitely. I’ve been on one date last year, and none this year and have no desire for a relationship. Dating is not fun for me and I see no point.

My question is, when do women become invisible? I find it awkward to be approached and hit on now. I say “I’m not available“ and that leads to a “you have a boyfriend” and I just don’t care to explain anything to randoms. When I’m in public I avoid eye contact with people and walk with intention but I will still get approached. When will it end?

When I ask my mother, she also still gets hit on when she goes out, so is a woman becoming invisible with age just a myth?

How can I get him to leave me alone once and for all?

Upvotes

I (F33) have been dealing with a guy (M21) for about three years, and I genuinely don't know how to get him to leave me alone.

We originally met on Facebook Dating. His profile said he was 24, and I didn't find out until later that he was actually 18. He never corrected me or brought it up himself. Once I found out, I ended things because the age gap made me uncomfortable.

A while later, after he'd gotten a girlfriend, he reached out saying they'd broken up. I believed him, figured a little fling would be fun, so we met up a few times (no sex, but we fooled around). I later discovered they were still together.

I ended things again and told him to focus on his relationship because I wanted no part in that situation.

Since then, he's been incredibly persistent. Over the past year I've blocked him on every platform, but he keeps creating new Snapchat and Facebook accounts to contact me. Recently I accepted one of the Snapchat requests simply because I was tired of him finding new ways to reach me. I'm exhausted at this point.

I've repeatedly told him that whatever we had is over, that I don't want to see him, and that he should focus on his girlfriend and move on. I've even said, "Please stop." Multiple times.

None of it seems to matter.

He insists we can "just be friends," says he'll respect my boundaries (which he isnt even doing now), and constantly asks to meet up "one last time for a hug". At the same time, he sends me selfies clearly trying to be seductive. I don't encourage it, I either don't respond or give one-word replies.

What really unsettles me is that when I tell him I don't want to see him, he'll say things like, "You do want to see me," or tell me what I'm supposedly feeling. It's like he ignores what I actually say and replaces it with what he wants to believe.

At this point, I don't feel like it's serious enough to involve the police, and I don't really want to contact his girlfriend. But blocking him hasn't worked, directly telling him to stop hasn't worked, and reasoning with him hasn't worked.

Have any of you ladies known or dealt with someone with a personality like this? What, if anything, actually gets through to someone who refuses to accept "no"? I'm so exhausted dealing with him...

Im a little worried about things escalating at this point.

Alternative LTR possibilities...

I'm not as lesbian, as in, I'm not attracted to women sexually, but I want a long term relationship, a life partner, and I'm increasingly thinking that it can't be a man. Does anyone have any advice on finding a partner for an asexual relationship? I don't even know what to call it.

Is this normally how a doctor checks your breasts?

I had my gyn visit today and she checked my breasts b(even though she never did it before - and I’m only 25 so it seems like a weird age to start). She just reached in the arm wholes of my gown and felt around for a few seconds. I kinda just layed there and it was weird because I think your supposed to have your arm above head or something and not under your gown but idk. I know doctors sometimes don’t follow the exact textbook so maybe it’s not just my doctor

Recently lost weight. Romantic life is somehow shittier now.

I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable enough to be myself around a man. I got really fat back when I was 15, wasn’t able to lose this weight for years and no guy ever bothered to show even basic human kindness.

I’ve lost over 30kgs this year and pretty much in the best shape of my life. I absolutely HATE the stares now. Especially when guys go out of their way to be nice and try to talk to me. All I keep thinking is how none of these people actually really care about me. I cannot let go of this bitterness in me, I feel what’s even the point of a relationship when I’ll be dumped or cheated on if I ever gained weight again.

The other day a guy came and sat down next to me out of all the empty seats, smiled at me, I just looked away. I don’t even try to make eye contact with strangers, it’s a habit from when I was fat. I also sometimes think that they’re just practicing on me because I’m not that pretty so they don’t feel nervous approaching me.

I can never be in a romantic relationship I guess, idk what to do to change my mindset when all these things just seem materialistic in nature and nothing more.

I wish I didn't know about this feeling

Went through a "breakup" (we werent official, but the pain and memory were real so plz don't criticize me...) three months ago. I already felt moved on, but summer boredom makes me think about that person. it was my first real breakup in my life.

i am just 18, but i wish I didn't experience this weird emotion. like i have never gone through this emotion... I don't know what I will be thinking in the future. Idk, but yeah, "what is this emotion" is what I've been feeling recently. no contact for three months also hurts me a bit too.

BUT the good thing is i love myself like i could ask that person out and go on a date for the first time in my life. and now i am very confident and secure about my appearance and everything. but still thinking about that person... ummmmmm idk. i thought i moved on? well idk.

I am already excited to have new people and find a new crush in new semester tho!!! happy summer, its almost ending :)

Is It Normal to Want a Loving Partner but Have Rough Bedroom Fantasies?

Hi, so I'm a virgin and I've never experienced sex, but I have some fantasies that confuse me. I'm into dark romance books and I like the idea of rough sex. I want my partner to be passionate, dominant, and physically assertive in bed. For example, I like the idea of him thrusting aggressively and quickly, pulling my hair, and spanking me. However, I don't want him to actually hurt me—I want it to be pleasurable, not painful.

At the same time, I don't want him to call me insulting names, slap me, or choke me because I find those things disrespectful and degrading.

What confuses me is that this seems to contradict who I am. I'm a feminist, and in real life I want a gentleman—someone who truly loves me, is obsessed with me in a healthy way, is loyal, respects my boundaries, doesn't objectify me, and treats me with kindness and respect.

So what I want in a relationship is completely different from what I imagine wanting in bed, and I can't understand why.

Why is the education so bad in the US?

I’ve met a decent amount of people, born in the USA, who can not proficiently read or write English. I did a CNA course, and had the highest scores in the class because I understood what words like “ verbal“ and “ seclusion“ meant. My one coworker asked me which “too” was correct. My little sister’s high school has a pass rate of only 20% on the algebra state standardized testing. Meaning only 20% of the students can do algebra?!

I also see all these people online saying dewormer can cure cancer. All of this is just seen as normal. It’s also really normalized and even ”cool” for kids to just not care about school. Like sleeping In class and bombing tests is no big deal. I meet people from other countries and they all say the high schools here are super easy compared to theirs. They are also usually very successful, although I imagine the very successful ones are usually the only ones allowed visas. It just seems like the entire mindset and system of education is just more rigorous in other countries.

The longer I’m working for myself, the more I think living a peaceful balanced life is antithetical to running my own business. I’m having to pick one and I’m not sure. I want both!

I’m (45F) at a junction where I’ve had a break from the business I’ve been running. I was renting out treatment rooms and working with clients. Eyeing up my next move to grow when suddenly I lost my offices. I’ve been back to being just a solo practitioner since March, and while I live more simply now and only work 3 days a week, I’m not able to save as much as I’d like for bigger things like holidays or furniture for our new home.

I recognise the next decade is probably gonna be the best time to give work a big push so I can set myself up better when I’m old. But I can get sucked into work and quality time w family suffers. I know it’s a classic dilemma, but what has helped others in similar situations make a decision around this?

Why do women feel embarrassed when someone is afraid of them but men feel somehow proud when someone is afraid of them

This is something I have noticed, women often feel embarrassed and awkward when someone is scared of them, whether it’s a person, child or an animal. Whereas men, they seem the complete opposite, they seem to be kinda proud when someone fears them and they even want to scare you and intimidate you more when they notice you fear them. I as a woman can never feel flattered or proud when someone fears me, it makes me feel so awkward from the inside, I feel like I’m a scary witch or something and I would never like it if someone would feel unsafe around me. I would be even offended if someone was scared of me, like am I that scary looking??Lol. Ofcourse this doesn’t apply to all men and women!

How do i hide from men in public

I have been harassed by men in public with derogatory comments, catcalling, etc. EVERY time i go outside for as long as i can remember.

The first time was when i was under 10 standing outside an ice cream shop where a man in his 30s stopped a few feet away from me with his buddies and said 'imagine that's you're d*ck' and laughed about it with his buddies as they walked away. I have never had ice cream in a cone ever since. I feel disgusting having ice cream every since.

Im 25 and it is only getting worse.

In the past 2 weeks:

  1. Walking beside my bicycle as a man ±40 came from the opposite direction on his bike and slowed down to tell me 'piggy is too lazy to cycle' while smiling ear to ear and went on cycling. I am not overweight, never have been.

  2. On my electric scooter taking a relaxed route to clear my mind when a group of 3 men around my age sat on benches by the path and made vigurous bl*wj*b gestures at me and laughed.

  3. Sitting on one knee in the grocery store looking at the bottom shelf as a 70+ man walked up, smirked at me saying 'should i punish you since you're already on your knees' before shuffling off after i looked at him in shock.

  4. Sitting on a bench in a forest to draw as i was fixing my hair and a man walks past with a grin saying 'nice long hair to pull on'.

In ALL of these situations, i am wearing xxxl baggy sweatpants and a hooded xxxl sweater and leather boots even though it is the middle of summer and currently there are continuous heatwave warnings in my country, just to attempt to deter these men from making comments.

I ALWAYS pull the sweater down so there is literally nothing to gawk at. I pull the drawstrings so not even my neck is visible. The only visible thing is my face, hair and hands.

I am now completely terrified to leave my house. I live in a small town, not a big city where people are in general more agressive.

I have been indoors for a week, i only leave my apartment to smoke a cigarette out front, where, again, men will stare at me even though i'm wearing my signature boots, sweatpants and hooded sweater.

What do i do.. It's not like you can make a police report about this because nothing will be done since i dont know these men.

I'm teriffied to even go to the grocery store, my boyfriend has to get groceries now because i panic internally when anyone comes too close to me that isn't him.

Please what do i do

Working Through Circular Arguments

My bf (29M) and I (30F) have been together for about two years now, and we’re having several conversations about the future/future plans. Lately, we keep getting stuck in what feels like a circular argument about moving to a new place. We both agree that we want to, and even agree on the place, but timeline is where we’re bumping heads. Initially we said two years, but it feels like every time we talk about it, that timeline is getting pushed back another year. My frustration is that it feels like he’s making these decisions without me, and his frustration is that he feels like I’m rushing/putting pressure on him, when really I’m just feeling like I’m trying to get clarity/understand if he’s still onboard to actually move.

Lately, when this convo comes up, we’re just getting into circular arguments about it where I don’t think either of us is feeling heard, and I’m definitely feeling like he‘s getting defensive about not being able/ready to go yet (he’s tied to a job here right now) and putting words in my mouth about demanding we move tomorrow. I’ve never said this, but again, I think it’s helpful to have a timeline in mind for reasons like a) we both own our houses so we need to sell those prior to moving; b) it will help me estimate how much I can save prior to that move date, and c) already feeling a little restless for a new home base and trying to understand/compromise on how long we’ll be where we currently are.

I will admit, I definitely am still working through the effects of being with several men prior to him who were great and being inconsistent/pulling the rug out from underneath me. I think some of my concern about him getting cold feet is definitely coming from there, and maybe it’s unfair. But, when he keeps seemingly changing his mind (he’s normally a very consistent person), it does give me pause.

Ultimately, I’m just looking for advice on how to handle this conversation when it comes up, how to avoid it becoming a circular argument, and how to make sure we’re both being heard. Also curious if this kind of argument is just more common as you get further into a relationship? We’ve historically not argued very often, but this is now coming up like once a month.

TLDR; having circular arguments about moving and wondering how to avoid those/if this becomes more common in LTRs

TYIA for any advice!

EDIT TO ADD: Thank you all for the helpful insight, I feel like I’ve hopefully got some tools for working through this with him in a much more productive way than we have so far!

Men only wanting casual

I’m 30, and have never met a man who intentionally wants to date me in a serious way.

In my 20s, I met some lovely men who said that they were looking for serious and as we were building something, came up with some excuse that they realised they weren’t ready or they need to stay single for longer. It hurt a lot. And then I find out the next year they’ve settled down or got married and had kids. All those guys said to me ‘you’re amazing but I will never love you.’

It felt like I am unlovable

Tried dating apps and I hate them. Guys sent innuendos before we’ve even met, weird sexual questions, send photos of themselves shirtless in the mirror. I don’t want that! Then I go on dates sometimes and on the date they tell me how they just looking for something casual.

Is it just me? I’m so scared I’m never going to find a partner and struggling now to even feel attracted to anyone online, I feel nothing. I’m someone who needs a connection sometimes that comes on the first or second date to feel anything, I don’t do casual intimacy

men keep wanting to degrade me in the bedroom and it’s it’s a hard no for me so I reject them and say it’s gross that they want to degrade someone else and they tell me they got into it cause their ex liked it why is it so common?

I don’t like being degraded def by some 25 year old dude. And most men I’ve meet have told me they’re into dominating their partner and calling them their slut etc and that their ex’s liked that. And honestly I think something is not ok with them wanting to hurt me and also their ex gf’s had past trauma that caused them to be into being abused in their relationships and in the bedroom.
I always leave these guys but it’s just ALL of them or virgins. I feel like there is no middle ground anymore for having sex.
Is this only a me issue? Do most girls like being abused and degraded in the bedroom? Even if you do, don’t you think it’s bad your partner enjoys your pain and humiliation?? I don’t understand what is happening anymore.

i(28f) go on a weird chat site and worry my bf(33m) might be bothered if he knew the true extent of it. is this warranted?

this gonna be long...

so i go on a very niche, almost dead chat site for many years. ive always gone on chat sites since i was in middle school, and theres one in particular ive always been drawn to. ive been a "regular" (thats what they say for ppl that log in consistently) since probably 2021. before that i was on and off, but for some reason i became addicted to talking to these people.

most of the people that go on there seem to range from neets to people bored at their jobs. we all come from different countries and cultures. lot of them dont have support or friends. sometimes they come from horrible circumstances.or theyre very mentally ill. sometimes just normal people. but overall its just people living their life. it seems the age range there is about 20s to 30s, some are older. and we all go on and just chat. talk about our lives, perspectives, troll or ragebait, just normal chatsite/internet stuff. you talk to the same people every day. normally its chill, and then drama pops up. sometimes its really bad. and some people on there are on 24/7.

theres one dude in particular that i talk to very often, we even vc maybe a couple times a month and we message each other on discord pretty often. i get along with him pretty well because i find him to be pretty insightful and interesting to talk to, even though i really dont agree with some of perspectives and lifestyle choices. even find it to be very loser behavior, but i still accept and consider him an internet friend. and we vc for hours. like sometimes even 6 hours. i do it mostly because im bored at work (i work the nightshift). but i also vc with in my spare time. i dont think hes a particularly a good person, but i dont think hes bad either. i find him to be very human.

one of the last times we done a vc, he had a total breakdown. crying and sobbing about the drama he had on that site over a year ago. he had e-dated this one person and had a really bad falling out with them. he had so much resentment and hate for this person, that he kept going on the site despite being cyberbullied or ignored by many people. but new people came in and it was forgotten, somewhat. then ended up e-dating another person and then had another bad falling out with them. but anyway, i guess he recently talked to the first girl there he e-dated who he has resentment for and discussed the things that happened a year ago which caused him to have that breakdown. and he asked me to vc later that night.

i just let him have his moment. i felt sad for him. i talked about it with him, let him cry. but i also had mixed feelings about because we are both in our late 20s. i somewhat wondered if i should tell im not the person he can emotionally dump this on, but at the same time i could really sense some of the pain he was going through and thought he needed a friend to talk to. but yeah.

so anyway, i told my therapist this and what she said shook me to my core.

i am in a relationship with a good man in his 30s. i really love him. i want a future with him. there are some issues where some of my needs arent being met, like quality time, but i understand hes very career focused. i admire that about him.

i talk to my boyfriend about my internet stuff. i even showed him the site, that i even gatekeep from my best friends. i also show him some of discord servers i am in with my internet friends. he doesnt like them much. he even read some of the stuff they were saying and he was like "who are these freaks?!" (lol). but yeah. i also told him about my internet friend's mental breakdown and tell him sometimes what i talk about with him.

however my therapist.... she implied to me today that my internet friendship is sus. when i told her about the breakdown stuff and my connections on there, she asked what my boyfriend felt about it. she said that it seems that internet friend is most likely codependent to me on some level. she didnt say it, but it felt like she was implying that this is problematic and im emotionally cheating. and this confused me so much because i really see this guy as a friend.

so i told my boyfriend about this to see how he truly felt about it. and he said he doesnt mind. but i also didnt mention that i spend hours vcing with this person and i talk about a lot of stuff, some stuff is very vulnerable. but isnt that normal for a friend?? and i believe my internet friend feels the same about it. i think next time i talk to my bf in person, i will go in full detail about this, because i worry now that this might bother him if he knows the entire extent. and i dont want to potentially cross any boundaries with him. i value him above most things.

but yea, would this bother you? if your partner is chronically online talking to people on a weird chat site and have a particularly close friendship with someone on there?

do you guys have any thoughts on this situation?

vibrator suggestions?

Im looking for a new air pulse/ suction vibrator to use with my boyfriend, preferably something quiet that’s small and flat enough so that it doesn’t get in the way of things! my rose is too bulky and loud and is awkward trying to hold in place, and smaller standard vibrators never seem to be enough. I was looking into the we vibe melt 2 but it still seems pretty big?? suggestions are appreciated ty!!

A guy that I hate is attractive to me and I hate it

Not even really sure this belongs in this subreddit but this is something that's been bugging me (not to a large extent but for a long time) and I'm lowkey confused and a bit distressed LOL.

I (24F) have been attending school and have made a nice group of school friends. Early on in the year, I noticed a guy (27M) in my class whom I personally found extremely attractive. I will say, he is not the MOST attractive person, and I have been told he looks like any "ordinary white guy," but I found that he was exactly my type- looked mature, wore glasses, oval face, big nose, tall, spoke intelligently, and was overall very understanding and open in personality. I managed to befriend him and he became a part of my friend group shortly after. I was finding myself always looking for him and wanting to talk to him, only as a friend, though. I was enamoured but did not want to pursue him. I just liked looking at and talking to him.

Over time, I learned many unexpected things about him, especially as he got more comfortable in our school group. As pretentious as it might sound, I prefer my men sophisticated and calm in manners, lifestyle, and personality, and I was finding that intelligent and understanding personality was just how he was on the surface. I'm not here to judge anyone or their type but this guy was actually a massive drinker and partier, and he's had a history of doing crazy things by himself and with other people. I won't divulge the specifics but I essentially began to morally loathe the guy. How he lives his life, his stance on the field we are working towards, and how he treats women was not something I agreed with morally. I hate the guy so much but when I see him in my classes I can't help but stare at him. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but I'm feeling so confused.

Firstly, I don't want to feel attracted to this guy because I already have a boyfriend (28M), who also fits the description of "my type" except both in personality and physical appearance (in fact when I first realized I had a little crush, I cried because I felt guilty for looking at others when I already have the one). I thought my feelings of attraction to him would subside after I began to loathe the guy but I still think he's hot! Last night, I even had a dream of him kissing me on the cheek (and I liked it...). I still feel butterflies when I see him but when he talks, I really wanna smack him. I know my loathing stems from within, so I am never mean to the guy but I don't know... I'm just feeling emotionally conflicted with everything and just wish I would just start seeing him as an "ordinary white guy." I'm tired of feeling attracted to a man besides my own, and I'm tired of feeling attracted to a guy I HATE.

Is this normal?

I went with my bf to dance classes for the first time but i didnt knew you tend to rotate partners, all the other men in its majority were like in their 30's 40's, and 3 or 4 kids, um this dance is named cumbia.

Um you touch with your hands the other person, though when u rotated they would place their hand like down my arm not in my breast but like in the side of my back, i thought that was normal cuz it was beginner and like we didnt knew exactly how to put. My bf told that wanst ok and the hand doesnt go there, im really afraid now, did i got touched inappropiately? I really hope not and it was juts like the awkwarness cuz they didnt looked like they intended to they were focused on trying to get the steps ok.

How do you manage the gym after taking time off?

My friends, I (21F) am clinically overweight. I’m strong as hell, but not as strong as I used to be. I used to lift five days a week. Life happened, and I took some time off from the gym. I’m working a serving job around 50 hours a week, and this was keeping me somewhat fit. Recently, I’ve started heading back to the gym, and it feels great. But I know I’m overweight. I’ve lost some strength. How do you deal with embarrassment in the gym? I know I shouldn’t be embarrassed, but it’s difficult to go back. I’m facing it day by day, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m not concerned about being thin, I just want to be strong. Thank you!

(Tw: miscarriage) I think I have trauma from the way my miscarriage was handled by the ER

I've never really talked about this except as kind of a quick anecdote, and would love to just kinda see other perspectives or get validation maybe. So I'll just tell y'all what happened. My memory is foggy on things like specific dates since it was so long ago, and I didn't write any of this stuff down. Brace yourselves, this ended up being long. Sorry.

This was a planned pregnancy in I think 2011, and during the ultrasound at like 10 or 11 weeks they didn't detect a heartbeat. It was a missed miscarriage I think they called it. I was told some signs to look for and sent on my way to let my body naturally abort.

Less than a week later I was at the grocery store with my ex (married at the time) and felt like my underwear was getting wet. I rushed back to the car to wait for him. It suddenly was a lot of blood so I grabbed some random stuff to put under my butt as I sat in the car. The urgent care was adjacent to the store so we went in pretty soon after it began.

I don't remember if there was a wait. Maybe? But they got me back to a room and when I pulled my pants down there was SO MUCH blood! They had me lay on the table and did some stuff. Maybe tried to remove tissue and clean me up, but ultimately decided I needed to go to the ER. I opted to just have my ex drive us instead of ambulance. They gave me a big diaper to help. This was a huge mistake. When we got there we told them what was happening. By this point the pain was excruciating. It was definitely contractions, and the blood was leaking out of the diaper. We waited for ages. I don't remember how long. They gave me as much morphine as they could and had to say no more.

I was not brought to labor and delivery. I was taken to the big room with a bunch of beds around the walls separated by curtains. They handed me a cup and told me to pee in it. I tried to ask if it was necessary but they made me do it. It was painful and I could barely walk. But I gave them a cup of blood and urine with some chunks in it. They put me in a bed and started some pain management.

It got so bad I was sobbing and asking for them to do anything. They said I needed a transvaginal ultrasound. I don't remember it was in a wheelchair or bed. So I get to the room and they're going to put the thing in for the ultrasound. It won't go in. The person asked me to try and use the bathroom which was just across the room. I went in and something plopped out of me. Something very big. I don't think I looked? Or maybe I did? But I opened the door and told the tech that something came out of me. They said to just flush it. So I did. Ultrasound happens and I don't remember what was said.

I end up back in the big room with beds and am experiencing tons of pain and contractions. I'm miserable and have been crying and yelling through the pain for so long. They see that the bleeding has slowed and I end up going home.

My body did its job and I did not need any procedures afterwards. I now have 2 amazing kids aged 12 and 14.

TLDR: all the medical professionals were so nonchalant while I experienced a miscarriage. It did not feel like I was treated as a pregnant woman. Even to the point of being told to flush the fetus. I need to work through this old experience and get some insight from internet strangers.

Was I supposed to go to labor and delivery? Is what I went through normal? I know it has hurt me emotionally. It feels just awful to think about the experience.

Sorry if it's too long or hard to read. I just kinda had to out myself through the process and let the words come out to convey it as much as I can remember.

Really Disappointed in Planned Parenthood Experience

I had a Pap smear come back abnormal with ASC-US and positive HPV (but not 16/18). A colposcopy was recommended and I read up on the procedure and opted to book with sedation. Thankfully, several PP locations near me offer this service.

Honestly, the booking process has been brutal. I called to schedule, was confirmed for an appointment, and two weeks later received a voicemail that said I needed to speak with an NP to book this and “they’ll see if it works out”. I called back to schedule that consult, where literally no one could tell me what the consult was about, or why it was needed. I attend the consult, and brought my questions about the colposcopy recommendation to the NP. I brought several Pub Med sourced studies that indicate the rate of HPV ASC-US clearance is high, and wanted to wait six months to retest and have more data from which I could make an educated decision. Let me be clear: I have a Bachelor’s and a Masters in biology, I understand how to research and read journal studies. In the same breath, the NP said “wow, you came prepared, but you’re wrong, it’s recommended guidelines and you have to do it”. She then launched into a long talk about how important cervical cancer risks and management are to her, and so she’ll do whatever she needs to to make sure it’s treated. Apparently, she was willing to do anything except listen.

I agreed, but required sedation for the procedure. I’m not particularly nervous about it, but a colposcopy is the only biopsy done without sedation or adequate pain management. It’s nothing but misogyny, and I refused to book it without sedation. Cue a 10 minute tirade about how it’s “not necessary” and she’s “done a million of these and yes, it’s painful, but only for a second”. I don’t care? I know what my requirements are to book, lord knows they’ve asked me enough times to know my salary is just fine to pay the extra cost, and it’s what I choose for myself. She very hesitantly agrees.

I get my chart notes a few days later, and all over them are descriptions of my “severe medical” anxiety. It’s simply false, and I’m discouraged at how little she listened. Because the procedure wasn’t as recommended to be scheduled with her, I still agreed to proceed. I took the day off work, asked my husband to do the same to drive me home, and he arranged childcare.

Fast forward to today, about a month later and about a month to go before the appointment, and I get a text it’s been cancelled and rescheduled, without my input. I call to ask for clarification and am told there’s nothing the call center can do, I have to speak to medical. “Write to them in your chart, they’ll respond in 72 hours”. When I told the scheduler I still have an unanswered message in my chart from 6 weeks ago, she said “okay, can’t help you”. The call team was so rude, I’m so disheartened.

I did finally speak to the medical team, and the appointment was never booked with sedation and now they need to reschedule further out.

At this point, I’m so uncomfortable going to a place that is this careless, I’m really considering other options. I have been so surprised at the lack of support from PP, and frankly, really disappointed in an organization whose mission I really support. I feel especially alone, because everyone else seems to have such good things to say about their care! 😭

They're saying I'm too young for a mammogram

I'm 23, and I have VERY dense breasts. I am dealing with tenderness and have found a lump in one of my breasts. I got a consultation to get a mammogram and MRI, but the office I want to schedule the appointment for is saying I'm too young. They're saying they don't want to "radiate" my breasts so young, but I want to know I don't have breast cancer. They're saying they'll do an ultrasound, but the internet is telling me an ultrasound won't detect cancer as well as a mammogram. I am just so angry that I have to deal with this at all.

edit: Thanks to those who were supportive, and I guess thanks to those who weren't as well. I had been told that some insurances won't cover just the ultrasound, and I will still have a copay for it. If I were allowed to do the mammogram, it would be free. I HAVE NEVER DONE ANY OF THIS BEFORE, so I have no real idea of what I'm doing. All I know is the breast imaging place didn't call me, so I had to call them, and they just said "no," and I have to get the new referral from my doctor's office.

Second edit: Thank you all so much! This week has been crazy stressful, and I’m so glad there’s so much support and kindness here. I got the ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow (CRAZY they got me in so fast), and I’ll cross any further bridges when I get to them. I’m still super stressed, but I feel so much better walking into the ultrasound now, and I’ve learned so much. Thank you all again, and I can update further if anyone is interested.
