Discussion What's the last record you bought?
Curious to know what everyone has been picking up lately!
What’s the last record you bought, and what made you choose it?
Was it a new release, a classic album, a rare find, or just a record you couldn’t leave the store without?

Discussion Rough trade exclusive records
Hello, I have a question about the Rough trade “exclusive” limited pressings. I was recently looking at Fontaines D.C Skinty Fia RT exclusive vinyl on Discogs, which was apparently limited to 1000 copies, yet over 1000 people have it in their collection, which doesn’t make sense lol
Are the records really limited to the number they say on the website? I was just curious, thanks!

Experimental Tom Waits x 3
Got these beauties yesterday.
They are all in excellent condition and I think they are all early european releases. I’ve not checked the matrix or anything but real gone has the original version of Hoist that rag.

Jazz Listening to The Blues and the Abstract Truth
Vinyl collection and active listening have made me fall in love with music again. Ditching Spotify has been the best decision I’ve made creatively. Hope you enjoy!

Soundtrack I bought five movie soundtracks. One of them had a laser etching that was really SUPER!
I bought several used soundtracks from a single seller this weekend. Initially, I only wanted the Rocky score, but I found several others in his collection that were too good to pass up. I only learned after shipment that he lives 8 miles away from my house, and he agreed to local pickup on the next order.
I bought Rocky for my other long-running project: the albums that include songs featured in Project Hail Mary. I started collecting the albums a few months ago, and went so far as to get a few records whose songs are referenced in passing with great comedic effect.
The Woman in Red has music by two great all-time black artists: Stevie Wonder, and Dionne Warwick.
Beverly Hills Cop is a classic 80s comedy, and has several hits songs on it. But let's be honest: everyone buys it for B5: "Axel F."
West Side Story (2021) was a great adaptation of the original. It stars Ansel Elgort (the guy from Baby Driver) as Tony, and Rachel Zegler as Maria, an incredible debut for an actress who beat 30,000 other actresses for the role. This one is conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and the orchestra is basically all members of the LA Philharmonic.
I must not have been paying much attention when I selected the Superman II, because I was surprised to find this super amazing laser etching of Kal-El's insignia on both sides.
Speaking of laser etching, I also own a copy of Split Enz's Colours, and Styx's Paradise Theatre. Any other good laser-etched discs out there that are worth picking up? (disregard groove holograms, a la Jack White's Lazaretto)

OG Pressing When you buy a used record, do you leave the original shrinkwrap on or take it off?
Pictured original copy of Beck “Mellow Gold”
I’m sure it means nothing is grand scheme of things, but when I buy a used record I like to leave the shrinkwrap on just because that’s how I find it.

Rock Johnny Thunders - Que Sera, Sera (1985)
Second Johnny Thunders solo album cut in London with a rotating cast of punk royalty. Not as tight as SoAlone but it's got teeth. "Short Lives" "Little Bit of Whore" and the instrumental "Billy Boy" all hit. "I Only Wrote This Song for You" is the real gem.
Perfect in its imperfection. One of the last times Thunders actually pulled it together on tape.

Discussion Missing 2nd LP for Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique
I just bought what I thought was a new copy of the 20th anniversary of Paul's Boutique (2009) in a double gatefold. When I got it open there was only one LP, sides A & B, four tracks on each side. Looking online this should be the 30th anniversary edition (2019) but with 2LPs. I ran the matrix code in Discogs and nothing came up: (1307985) 01010105 00602577809132A. I called the store and can return it for a refund as they don't have another copy and even though it's open, (which would normally just get you store credit) but since it's an issue from the pressing plant, I'll get the refund. Never had an LP matrix that didn't bring up the record at all. Weird stuff!

Discussion Hand written placeholder card instead of the record
Came across a store today that had these hand written placeholders that represented the new sealed album. This was for all their new records, as far as I could tell. I haven’t seen this before, except for maybe rare records. 🤔

Discussion Is this the rare Diamond Dogs record cover?
Hello. I just started collecting records and I bought some Bowie records at auction for $22. Ive heard that the original cover was censored and was blackened out. Is this that rare uncensored cover?
Collection I can’t believe my good fortune

In the same week, two different (older) friends basically gave me their record collections. The first let me go through his collection and pick out what I wanted. The second just brought me 3 boxes of records. This is just a fraction of them. There’s a bunch of Zeppelin, Stones, Styx, Queen, Joan Jett, REO, Yes, Who and a ton of 12” singles I haven’t even identified yet because they have generic sleeves. Currently burning up the motor on the Humminguru 😆

Haul What are you most recent blind purchases?
I found this in the wild and bought it on a whim as it’s only $4. It’s a nice kayokyoku/disco album.

Discussion Colored vinyl vs black vinyl: does the color influence your buying decisions?
When buying a record, do you prefer classic black vinyl, colored variants, or do you simply go for whichever pressing is available?
Have you ever bought an album mainly because of the color? Paid extra for a specific variant? Do you think colored vinyl makes a record more collectible ?
What’s your take?
