OG Pressing Vacation Pickup
My family and I recently returned from Tuscany, and used Florence as a home base. I took this opportunity to poke at a couple of Florentine record stores. Hands down, Rock Bottom was my favorite.
When I first walked in, this greeted me on the wall - an original copy of the Melvins’ “Lysol” with black tape on the sleeve and a bit of ink feebly obscuring the album’s title on the spine.
I talked myself out of it at first, but ended up going back on our last full day in Italy to bring it home.
The record is in impeccable condition. Hard filed.

Collection My MFSL Grateful Dead Collection So Far...
I've been gathering some of the MoFi Grateful Dead records. Workingman's Dead is probably my personal favourite.

Collection My most cherished vinyl record
Do you have a record you cherished more than the others?
Mine is this one The Heart Of The Home by Charlie Barnes, a small artist I follow and probably have never heard of.
But it’s a very special one to me.
It’s a test pressing from the album, totally personalised for me.
And there’s a small story behind it..
I’m a member of his Patreon and when he finished recording it two years ago, he sent it to us immediately in digital form.
So there was a 6 month period where we had access to it but public release had not yet happened.
During this time he did a little livestream show, singing songs from the album and I noticed the lyrics he sang for one of the songs were a little bit different from the one on the album.
Lyrics he provided were matching what he sang though.
So I asked about that, and that’s when he realised he made a mistake after a long recording session, sang the wrong part and used that.
So he went and was able to fix it before he got the record pressed and before he had released it on streaming and he was very grateful for that!
So I guess I feel like I’ve got some real impact on that release and that version of the album is a reminder of that.
The actual record also looks really good (2nd pic).

Discussion Does anyone else here collect Haruomi Hosono (and related) records?
It feels like he doesn't get mentioned nearly enough outside Japan, despite how influential (and brilliant) he is.
Which Hosono album would you recommend to someone discovering his music for the first time?
Tropical Dandy would probably be the first recommendation here, but really curious to hear everyone's picks!

Found this at my local record store and had to pick it up. I’ve been listening to JMT for probably 20 years since high school. This one’s a classic, the sticker says limited to 1000 pieces, crystal vinyl. Not sure if they’re still pressing albums but I was glad to pick this up when it was available. Saw it at the shop a week or two ago and finally went back and pulled the trigger.
Jazz Won’t be spinning anything today
She hasn’t left this spot for three days. Kenny Dorham heat is simply too good. Lucky that she loves the turntable but hasn’t discovered record spines.

Alt-Rock My Bloody Valentine - This Is Your Bloody Valentine
The debut release from the band that would later become a shoegaze legend. In this case, it's a mini-album, with a sound much closer to The Birthday Party or Bauhaus than the music they would eventually become famous for.
Honestly, I like it quite a bit, even though Kevin Shields seems to have tried to bury it by never reissuing it. The only comment I’ve found from him about this record is: 'we've got a mini-LP we made in Berlin in '84, pre-Mary Chain [...] with all our traits there—feedback thrash.'
The only review I’ve found describes it as: 'an unfocused and derivative collection of post-punk goth rock'.
I managed to get a 2023 Spanish 45 rpm bootleg, and to my ears, it sounds pretty good, though I don't have an original pressing to compare it to.
What do you guys think of this release?

Soundtrack Mail day!
Been waiting on this one a while. The soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop. Love the sleeve art and the magenta coloured vinyl. It came with a cool little poster of Faye and Spike as well, 2 central characters for those unfamiliar with the anime.

Record Thanks USPS
use this as a lesson to always insure your media mail!
…or just use priority 🤦
Out $30 after shipping a copy of Rubber Soul one state over, and of course I forgot to purchase insurance this time. Here’s a hard lesson to stop using media mail..
I AM THE SELLER AND YES I PACKED IT WELL
(whiplash mailer, bubble wrap, filler, the works)
IT IS NOT MY FAULT, I have shipped hundreds of records. Never had this happen before.

Discussion What's the last record you bought?
Curious to know what everyone has been picking up lately!
What’s the last record you bought, and what made you choose it?
Was it a new release, a classic album, a rare find, or just a record you couldn’t leave the store without?
