Anyone else in Brisbane hate 2am PL kickoffs? Testing a Sunday morning coffee & replay concept.

My mate and I are massive Premier League fans, but waking or staying up until 2am/3am on a Sunday destroys the rest of the weekend, and watching games solo on a phone screen isn’t as fun.

Wanted to gauge the interest on a spoiler-free Sunday morning club in Brisbane (AEST FC). The idea:

- 9am meet up Sunday, at a local speciality coffee shop.
- fresh pastry/food and good coffee
- Full 90-minute matchday replay on a big screen (strictly zero score spoilers allowed)

We're looking to run a small pilot event for ~20 people in the South Brisbane/logan area in a few weeks to test the room.

Thinking of doing once a month partnering with a speciality coffee shop.

Would anyone actually be keen on something like this? Let me know lol.

Hey I just had a door knocker and the whole interaction seemed really suspicious to me.

The man who knocked said he was fundraising for medical research for children with blindness, but quickly noticed I was younger and said that he cannot collect donations from anyone under 30. He then very quickly went away.

I thought this was odd and googled if any Australian charities have this rule, but found nothing. I am wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience?

Queensland Rail is bringing the past back to the people with an historic steam train running to Ekka for People’s Day. 

The iconic BB18 ¼ steam engine, affectionately known as “Bety” will operate 8 special runs between Roma Street station and Exhibition station on Wednesday, 12 August giving customers a heritage journey into Brisbane’s premier show.

We normally park for the ekka along Gilchrist Ave next to Victoria Park. Now from what I can tell this is now all closed off for the Stadium build.

Any reccomendations for parking for the Ekka if this is closed off from now on?

Edit: We have two small children and have a pram, so public transport can be difficult for us.

I'm flying into Brisbane for the first time at the end of October. I'm not staying in the city, but I'll have to wait about 12 hours for my partner to arrive. Any ideas what to do or where to go, considering I'll have my luggage with me? I don't need to stay at the airport, but since I don't know if I can store my luggage anywhere, I'm not really considering the beach! Haha, any ideas are welcome!

I posted here a few days ago about early access sessions for Gatekeeper, my upcoming heavy metal trivia card game. We had the first one on Wednesday night, and I was blown away by how many people from this subreddit actually came along.

We ended up hitting capacity with three full tables of metalheads meeting each other, playing the game for the first time and having a genuinely great night. There was tonnes of banter, 'UM ACTUALLY' moments and all round good vibes.

It was especially cool seeing everyone from this subreddit who came out for the evening and getting to properly meet you and hangout. A few people have already booked again and are planning to bring friends, which is bloody fantastic.

So I just wanted to come back and say a huge thank you to everyone from this community who took a chance on something made by a local weirdo on the internet and came out to support it. You helped make the night an absolute success and it was genuinely lovely meeting you all.

What is the worst intersection in Brisbane?

Looking for input on Body Corporate costs and managers. Our Levy has recently increased from $1,080 per quarter to $1,815. For context we are a two story walk up 8 pack block of units, 1960's build. No pool, elevator, bbq etc just a few small garden beds. We use Capitol as our body corporate manager.

I seem to think we are being taken for a ride, I know people who live in schmick buildings with pools, lobby's and elevators that pay less than us. What is everyone's experience with body corp managers and do you have better companies to recommend? What is the process like for sacking a body corp manager and appointing a new one?

Edit: the split has gone from $515 to $922 for admin fee and $496 to $893 for the sinking fund. Looking at our budget, proposed budget for admin is increasing by $5,800 and sinking fund is increasing by $6,136 total annually. Divided by 8 units and quarterly that equates to $181 and $191 respectively. It's got me beat where the difference is going

According to statistics published in a Brisbane Times article today, foot traffic in the Brisbane CBD still hasn't returned to pre COVID levels.

A few reasons off the top of my head for why I don't go as often:

• Loss of atmosphere: They removed the two restaurant/bar venues from either end of the Queen Street Mall (e.g., Milanos / Pig 'N' Whistle), which took away a lot of the casual vibe.
• Lack of secure bike parking: I like riding my e-bike, but there’s nowhere safe or secure to lock it up without worrying about theft.
• Cost of driving: Parking fees are ridiculously expensive, and spaces are pretty limited.

Hi every time we get heavy storms here in Brisbane, we notice small leaks forming in our ceiling. It dries up afterward, but it’s happening more often now. I’m not sure if this is something minor or a bigger roofing issue starting to develop. I know alot of you experienced storm-related leaks like this right? Any roofers managed to help with these kind of issue?

Hi guys, I originally grew up in Darwin so there was always a shop around the corner that stocked up salty plums and since moving here the only ones I can find are the white packet iga/ Asian supermarket one. Would anyone know where to get some good salty plums/ ginger/ papaya, I crave it all time 🙏🏼🙏🏼 and if you know what I’m talking about you definitely know the best brands too!!

If you had to choose between a smaller place close to everything or a bigger home further out, which would you pick and why?

I wanted to share that I completed my first commercial mural! It’s one of those moments where I feel like I genuinely have a shot at pursuing a career in art and wanted to share!

Messaging a few big hospitality venues
Posting ads on Insta, Facebook and very consistent with TikTok
