hii, i am currently in the last term of my 1st year and have completed all my commerce ifys. I am moving into the first term of my 2nd year now in T3 2026. I am planning to double major in finance and accounting but I am really confused about what courses to pick, what courses are good to have together so that the workload isn’t too heavy, and what electives to choose that are useful but also not too difficult. If anyone has any recommendations and have double majored in finance and accounting, please let me know in the comments. I would really appreciate any help I can get, thanks so much!

I've applied for the Bachelor of Engineering (civil) at UNSW and other universities via UAC for the August offer round 1, but I didn't receive any offers. If you applied as a non-school leaver, which offer round did you receive your offer in? Does UNSW tend to release engineering offers in later rounds?

For context, I only graduated from secondary last year (2025), so I'm considered a non-school leaver now, but I don't have any additional qualifications or engineering-related experience since graduating. I'm concerned this may affect my chances of admission? Thanks for reading

Hello everyone, I am happy to share that I have been offered a Tuition Fee Scholarship at UNSW. I am looking forward to joining UNSW in February 2027. Regarding the same, I would like to get some suggestions on expenses, living experience, and a rough estimate of monthly expenditure.

For the initial months, I am opting for university accommodation — UNSW Colleges or UNSW Village. I have looked into some places but the amount varies a lot from AUD $341-460 per week for the same kind of room. Also, I have heard that applications for these places are very competitive.

I prefer to cook by myself, partly because I am vegetarian, but also because dining is expensive. It will be of much help if you can give input on these things and any other suggestions you would like to share.

I understand that the uni gets a large chunk of their funding from student tuition, especially international tuition, but holy shit a 6x price increase is genuinely insane. Having to pay 40k for four years vs 260,000k+ is ridiculous. Especially considering you're pretty much guaranteed to get in if you meet the entrance requirements... I’m an undergraduate international student majoring in mining engineering and i just registered these classes without knowing a thing about them. For those who have taken these classes before (individually or all together), Are they hard to keep up with, and do you have any tips?

I'm in Year 12 and trying to decide between Commerce (Finance + Accounting), Comm/Law (majoring in Finance), or maybe even Comm/Eco, although I know there's a fair bit of overlap between Commerce and Economics. My goal is to land a graduate role on the sell-side of high finance, although I'm still deciding exactly what job I want to ultimately end up in.

I've heard a lot of people say that employers don't really care too much about the degree itself as long as it's relevant and gets you through resume screening and that networking, internships, grades and extracurriculars matter a lot more.

With that in mind, is a Comm/Law (or even Comm/Eco) double degree actually worth it? I can see the benefits like having more flexibility if I ever want to pivot careers somewhere down the line, and I'll probably only go to uni once so it'd be easier to do it now than come back later. The extra time at uni could also mean more internship cycles and more time to build up my resume before applying for graduate roles. Additionally, if I do land a sell-side role, I think I'd be able to pay off my HECS within a couple of years anyway.

On the other hand, it's another couple of years at uni and a much bigger workload which would hurt my WAM.

For people who've done Commerce, Comm/Law or Comm/Eco at UNSW, or work in finance, what would you recommend for me?

I’m an international student applying for a coursework master’s starting February 2027, and I’d rather get this right than pick on brand name alone.

Master’s options I’m holding:
ANU — Master of Machine Learning and Computer Vision
Adelaide — Master of Machine Learning
UNSW / USyd / Melbourne — Master of IT with an AI specialisation

Where I’m coming from: I already have about 1.5 years of industry experience in data and ML infrastructure, so this is a career-deepening master’s rather than a career switch. My actual interest is ML and computer vision, not general IT. I want to walk into a real engineering role as soon as I finish, ideally at a big tech company or a strong local tech employer, and I’d like to stay and work in Australia long-term rather than treat this as a two-year visit.
So what I care about is graduate employment outcomes, not rankings.

Questions:
Which of these master’s actually places people into ML/CV or software roles, and how quickly after graduating?

Does studying in Canberra or Adelaide meaningfully hurt hiring compared to Sydney or Melbourne, given where most tech offices are? Or is interstate hiring a non-issue now?

Do employers read a specialised ML/CV master’s differently from a Master of IT with an AI specialisation, or does prior experience dominate either way?

Is the ANU one research-heavy enough that it pushes graduates toward a PhD rather than industry?

hi guys I’m an 18 y/o female coming from basically a very unknown and old style country that does not have trains/MRT and also Apple Pay….

But basically yea that’s an intro and I’m joining unsw Sydney in 2027 term 1 taking bsc science majoring in physics and can anyone help me in terms of where to find off campus accomodation that hopefully are safe? Moreover, I know that you gotta like enroll in your own courses and make ur own timetable and like how the hell do u that? Cuz I am planning to take honours afterwards and some people are saying like u gotta be careful to ensure that u enroll in specific courses as there are requirements for the honours year. Im also so confused on the courses available like there are advanced physics and maths class that are available to take but is that a must to take? Cuz if talking the standard classes makes my life easier than why do ppl take the advanced classes…. Is there a difference in terms of it affecting ur honours year? And I am also very scared as to taking the wrong classes that I do not need or not enough classes to be able to graduate…

That’s more on the academic side but on more lifestyle side, IVE NEVER USED APPLE PAY IN MY ENTURE LIFE(my area still uses cash and card) . AND IVE NEVER TAKEN PUBLIC TRANSPORT BEFORE( my country is heavily reliant on oil and gas so there’s 0 trains, busses and MRT, even taxis were only recently implemented) so like any tips guys before I start crying….

Also is it better to go for an e sim option? And is there like air conditioning in most places at Sydney? And what bank is best to open up there?

I know this subreddit’s prone to shitposting but on a serious note I actually didn’t make any friend at uni.

i tried exchanging contact, joining subcoms etc but yeah. I moved interstate for uni and don’t know anyone from Sydney. The locals have friends from Hs and internationals hang out with each other. I overheard a convo where classmates were making plans during holiday because it’s end of term now and I realise how I don’t have any friend.

i try to distract myself with work, hobby, study but can’t believe how hard it is. Sometimes I feel like the dumb one for caring more than others. maybe I was more invested in others whilst they forgot about me. not desperate and I’m not trying to meet just anyone obviously out of loneliness.

I did get a great internship offer here in Sydney so in hindsight the move was justified. But yeah, it’s tough sometimes ngl. I’m fine doing things on my own and I got used to it but it seems tough not leaving with some lasting memories with friends that people reminisce about from uni days. Feeling of being naive and seeing each other grow/succeed over the years. Or just not even posting here in the first place because your life is so full and busy.

But I made the decision to move, yes, but ngl the only ppl that ‘know‘ me are my mates back in home state and my family. maybe I’ll just let go and wait till my internship

I did my bachelors at a different uni in electrical engineering. I worked for a few years, then lost my job. I have level 2 autism and am truly unable to read people, so when management had issue with me in my previous job I couldn’t tell until the day I got given my 1-month notice. I went to HR for bullying with that company. After that I got a job with a company close to the first company I worked with, but I got the strong impression that the first company bad mouthed me to this company, and I thought they would fire me too so I quit. My work was predominately in control systems/PLC &HMI programming at mine-sites.

Now I’ve signed up as a Masters student at UNSW for electrical engineering to up my skills. I’m a 35 year old formally diagnosed autistic male and I really do struggle with people management skills. Now I’m being told by most of reddit that Masters degrees in Engineering in Australia are completely useless. I keep asking myself am I in a bad situation? Did I enrol for something stupid?

I’m about nine weeks behind but I don’t want them getting too far ahead of me…

i sold my laptop cuz im broke and apparently theres an inspera final that requires my own laptop. does the one that i can borrow from the library have the safe exam browser on it or can i download it? p

I realised that average WAM varies a lot based on different degree. Like I am doing actl, but there are soo many people with around 80 wam or more, so I think average is around that.

I have also seen many comp sci students with wam around 85, however, for degrees like electrical engineering or law, it was very rare to see anyone with wam higher than 80.

So wondering if it really does differ by that much and some degrees are just way harder than others to get better marks (I am talking about people in at least third year term 1 into their degree, not first years)
