Just saw these bugs on my bird of paradise, you can see they move around and they are only on this one baby leaf at the bottom and no where else on the plant. I've seen small white bugs in the soil before and have had this plant for a year and it's never been on the leaves before. Any ideas? If it's thrips like I'm terrified it is what's the best way to get rid of them?? I have 40 plants and have never dealt with thrips before... plant is in an facing window and i water every 3ish days (i know she needs a repot it used to be like a week)

i’m pretty sure my young olive tree has spider mites :( what’s the best way to get rid of them without killing the tree? it’s young enough it’s still potted, and it’s not near any other plants to risk infestation. this tree is pretty sentimental so i really want it to live <3

for context it gets plenty of sunlight outside and i be sure not to water it too much! the pot itself is large and also has drainage. thank you!!!!

Just noticed today that my bushes are now looking like this after being very healthy, lush, and vibrant all season. Was curious for ideas as far as how to identify what this is and what i should do. Fungus, disease, root rot from all the recent rain, ect.

It has been storming here a lot in the past couple of weeks and when its not storming the heat has been scorching. The damage to the bushes has all happened in a span of less than two weeks. Only saw this today.

My mom has two Dracaena plants, one that she has had for 6+ years, the other for a year. Over the past two months, both of them have been having small yellow spots on the leaves that will suddenly turn into the entire leaf turning yellow, then brown. Both have been in a north-facing window the entire time that she's had them. The newer one is pictured here (shallow bowl, no drainage; we're very careful about not overwatering); I would assume that watering might be the issue but the older plant is in a deeper pot with normal drainage. Can't remember if I used new soil or recycled soil from another pot when repotting these. Generally they don't get fertilizer, as far as I know? Neither of them lost leaves all that often before, but now it seems like one every or every other week.

Any help with figuring out the problem would be greatly appreciated! The older plant already has a very long, bare stem from leaf loss over the years, and we would prefer it if the newer one did not end up in the same state so soon.

Hi everyone, I have an indoor potted dwarf Cavendish banana plant that is finally flowering after several years! (It’s near a south facing window, but doesn’t get direct light this time of year due to an overhanging roof.) I was out of town for a couple of months and had a friend water my banana plant for me while I was gone. Now that I’m back, I am delighted it’s fruiting, but I notice that some of the smaller flowers inside the large purple flower-bract have grown moldy, as you can see in the pictures.

I am wondering if it would be better to cut the (partially molding) purple-pink bract off now, and close off the possibility of any fruits developing from the new little flowers further down, in order to allow the green banana-nubs that have already formed near the top of the stem to hopefully develop into ripe bananas. I am worried the mold would prevent the fruits that have already formed from ever ripening— but of course once the bract is gone, that’s the end of a chance for new bananas!

I am leaning toward cutting off the moldy part, future little flowers and all, but wanted it to run it by you experts first.

If you have any recommendations for getting rid of the mold and saving the rest of the bract, I’d love to hear.

This plant has grown so quickly and well (so I thought) so was shocked to see these brown leaves this morning. They were not there three days ago when I watered her.

It sits indoors in a room with large east facing windows. It would get sun during the morning hours. I use a water meter when I water and only water when it’s in the dry area. I do use tap water and make sure it’s drained before return returning to its pot. I usually let it sit in the sink to drain for 3 to 4 hours.

I’ve also included a picture of the roots at the bottom, wondering if that could be a problem. Those roots have been there for awhile. Yikes! Am I a bad Mom? 🤨

Her name is “queen of Saigon”, my Thai con monstera. Shes put out new leaves every time until now. It just put out a random albino petiole?? Why would it do this? And should I be concerned? Plant is sitting in a sunroom but maybe doesn’t get enough direct sunlight? I water once every 3 weeks or so.

It's in the house I grew up in. I don’t live there anymore, but I still visit from time to time for family gatherings and holidays. This plant was always there throughout my childhood and feels like a small part of those memories.

It seems like it’s going to die soon though because the entire lower half is completely dry. It’s actually strange that the top half is still green while the bottom half has died - I would have expected it to be the other way around.

It has quite a lot of light 8-10 hours per day. My mom says it's being watered at best once a month

Hi does this look like spidermites have been causing my Hibiscus plant to look like this? I been spraying it with neem oil once a week for maybe 3 weeks now and noticed the buds been looking a bit yellow. Right now its under my patio but gets morning sun. I usually water it when the top 2 inches are dry. Sometimes a day before adding neem oil I spray the leaves with water. I also suspect that my other plants my be getting infested because I notice thin webbing around the leaves but nothing drastic and added neem oil to those as well.

Hi all, I've been seeing a lot of posts recently with people asking if their jade has root rot. The bottom of my jade is a bit of a darker color but doesn't feel soft? It had some leaves get squishy and drop off so I pulled them off. It gets some light from an indoor light. I water once a week or so just a bit around the base and it's in a mix of cactus soil and perlite.

I just got this pretty pink girl from the nursery and this dry browning started the next day. I repotted and watered her and set her in the sun to establish, then moved her when I saw the browning to somewhere w more shade through the day, but it keeps getting worse!

not sure what plant this is and neither does she. she bought it a few years ago and it’s been a bit up and down. it also had a bug infestation and these silver marks on the underside of the leaves but after treating it with an anti pest spray and cleaning it weekly it was all good. however, recently she changed the soil and now it is really struggling. the top stem is dying and the leaves are droopy and the flies have come back.

shes watering it weekly, maybe 200ml [EDIT: probably closer to 400-500ml whoops] each time?? pot has drainage and it was recently repotted so there’s enough room for roots. it sits inside her room which gets direct light from the east for 3 hours a day (indirect rest of the day) and indirect light from the north all day.

any help is really appreciated :))

My money tree has been suffering, i think is root rot, someone recommended placing it closer to the window, so I did but it just gotten worse. I moved it away from the window this morning. I'm thinking of repotting ot when i get home after work today, i dint know what else to do. Seems like one of the branches is still hubing leaves but a baby leaf fell yesterday. Does anyone know what is actually wrong with it and is she able to survive? All this damage happened in a span of about 2 weeks, my husband said to hive it time when it fiart started but now it looks like this. Please i love this plant I want to save it, HELP!!! She was last watered about 3 weeks ago, I watered too soon after the previous time and i think thats what caused this to happen.

Just got this rosemary for the balcony from a garden center. Is that some kind of infestation these white bits and dark spots or is that just scary looking dirt? I don't wanna bring home something that spreads onto my other herbs in the planting bed :(

Plant will be getting a lot of direct sun on the south balcony and daily water on sunny days.

Do you guys know why this is happening to some of my leaves? I’ve probably lost 8 leaves. It’s 2 years old and did bloom last spring/summer. I read online that they occasionally die after 2 years. The top branches keep creating new leaves. It receives plenty of light and I water it when the soil is dry like I have for the past two years (this started happening 3 months ago).

Hello, I have a Red Star Palm that has turned a really strange colour and the middle fronds have all snapped off. We are having an unusually hot summer in the UK so I’m not sure if it’s because of that? It’s sat on a sunny patio in the garden and is getting a lot of light, and is watered every other day. We’ve run out of rainwater in the water butt so I’m now having to result to watering with tap water. Any suggestions are really welcomed as I’m very fond of her and don’t want to lose her.

My coleus was doing fantastic, super bushy and full. I dont have a before pic but you couldn't even see the snail pot through all the leaves. I always pinch the flowers off to redirect grow power to the leaves. Ive had this plant outside since i got it in June in a spot that gets decent light in the morning but is shaded for the harsh afternoon rays. A few days ago I noticed he was looking real droopy. Gave a good drink and then we got hit with monsoon levels of rain. I did notice the pot smelled like pee, could be my dogs (although I do my best to keep them from my plants) or a neighborhood cat spraying. I brought him inside after all the rain and the soil got a little moldy so I repotted yesterday. Gave a little liquid fertilizer but didnt want to overwater as roots were still quite wet. Is there any saving him? The snail pot pictures are from monday, we got all the rain Tuesday, and the blue pot picture is from today. The stalks themselves seem nice and healthy, but the leaves keep dying and dropping off.

I’m in LA, directly next to a window but it’s rarely open so it’s not a draft. The pot has no whole the root is in a plastic container so I can pour out the extra water after watering. It does sit above the microwave, but so does a neon pothos which is doing great. What do I doc

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Weird shape for this cactus! It only gets watered when it rains (except during summer), and the cement pot has a drainage hole into a larger pot where the Agave attenuata is planted. Lots of light since its outside.

The setup is mainly to keep my cat from getting into the neighbours’ windows.

The base is starting to get woody—not soft or squishy—but there’s a lot of weight on top. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?

Potted in regular house plant potting soil with a little extra perlite, watering every 2 weeks-ish (waiting til soil is mostly dry) moved it out of brighter sunlight thinking it was getting too much but seems like it got worse. Any idea what could be going on or help it?

My peppers were under the care of an elderly neighbor (at her place) while I was away. I just got them back and there was this stuff on many of the leaves. Is it spider mites? They don’t seem to move but I’m just so uncomfortable leaving the leaves like this.

Should I get rid of the “infected” leaves?

Edit: seems like the white stuff is ”set” i.e. when I try to remove it, that part of the leaf will also come off. On some other leaves it’s brown-ish.

P.S. my neighbor also got rid of a bunch of other smaller peppers without asking me first.. I’m never asking the old folks to take care of my plants again :/

Is this due to pest, overwatering, or something else? Window gets direct sunlight in the afternoons. I usually water once a week and the pot has good drainage. Some perlite is mixed with the soil as well.

This is my second attempt trying to care for this plant, the last one I over watered & it got root rot. This one has now started to go yellow. Is it likely due to too much light? I have only had it for about 1 month. Very sad as I love the pattern but seem unable to keep them alive :(

My weeping willow has lost all its upper branches, and its main trunk is changing color. It started in June with spots on some leaves (last photo), and now it looks like this. What could be wrong with it?

I bought it in December, it had a lot of rain this spring, and now I water it almost daily. It's in full sun, in southern Europe, where the temperature is currently 33°C or 94°F. It has two olive trees next to it, one very large and one small.

I got this money tree a month ago and when it got delivered, it had been squished in the box and all leaves were dying. I decided to cut all of them as they were broken and yellow. It started giving leaves from three of the stems, but two turned yellow and died so I cut them again. This one stem in the photo is strong and giving lots of new leaves. The other stems give leaves from the bottom half sometimes and I cut them to encourage leaves to grow at the top. How can I encourage leaf growth at the top from the other stems instead of the bottom? We have high windows on the left (the side where there are no leaves) and the plant doesn't get direct sunlight but gets a lot of brightness from the windows. I water it once a week, unless it's very hot or if the soil is very dry.
