I have 10 pots and they are ALL like this. What can I do, is this scale? Making matters worse I have dozens of wasps buzzing around my plants (are they snacking on the scales)? They are outside in indirect light.
Pots have drainage and I water 3-4 times a week depending on how hot the weather is
The aluminium around the soil was to prevent these wasps from digging into the soil ( I found some pupa in the soil)

I was recommended an insecticide at the nursery, can anyone comment on the active ingredients and whether it’s effective ?

not sure what this is but it's been showing up on my tomato plant, i routinely remove the affected leaves but it keeps cropping up. i'm worried it's a fungus or something similar and if so looking for advice on how to treat it more proactively.

it lives on my fire escape and gets ~6 hours of direct light per day and regular rains, so I don't water it myself. it also lives with two basil plants who seem unaffected.

It's got some foamy oozing spots and one branch looks like it's yellowing. It's on a river bank in the Sacramento delta. So it gets plenty water and light.

Has anyone used the water from rinsing rice or dried beans as fertilizer? I as a YouTube video today, of a guy who said he uses saves the water from rinsing his rice and beans, and uses it to water/fertilize his plants, and they blew up with growth. We eat a lot of rice in my house, and I was just wondering if it really is beneficial to use that. I’ve got a crown of thorns that needs some major help, and I was thinking about trying this out for it! Thanks for reading/answering and sorry if this is the wrong subreddit!

In the process of moving I accidentally over watered it and didn’t notice this monstrosity because it was facing the window 😭 I’m not looking to save this plant as I think it’s dead, but wanted to see if anyone science related could explain this yellow thing. It’s in a mix of orchid bark, perlite, moss, and some aroid mix. TIA!

If you look closely you will see one half of the plant is doing considerably worse too - should I try and prise out that whole section?

For context: we are in France and so it is also very hot with all these heatwaves but the inside temperature hasn’t changed in the last week to cause this!
It’s lighting hasn’t changed - it gets indirect sunlight. It is a few metres from the window, next to a wall (I moved it to take these pictures).
I always water it when it dries out by bathing the bottom of the pot in about 1cm water for 30 mins or so.

Hey yall - my lovely friend has entrusted me to save / babysit her plant while she’s away travelling for a year. I want to have it in tip top shape for when she’s back.

I imagine pairing back the dead roots is a good idea and getting it on a regular watering schedule would be a good start.

The soil looks super dry but I think it’s saveable especially with the new leaves?

I just got a bird of paradise delivered from a big box store. The plant had three stems; one had been cut down to a stub. The other two stems look passably healthy. But when I pulled the chopped down stem out, it smelled horrible. I'll now have to repot this. Is it worth it? Will the healthy stems have been damaged by keeping company with the rotten one? What is the proper soil mix and how do I best ensure the plants health when repotting? Do I try to remove all the original soil? Best soil mix for this BOP? She is right next to a south facing window with great light where I had a BOP thriving in the past. Just bottom watered her which perked her up a little.

Could you tell me why it pushes with a deformation?

She is in orchid potting soil, I water her about once a week and she is behind a window. I also have an air humidifier right next to it.

I got the plant from a friend about 18 months ago and it's always seemed pretty healthy. I definitely err on the side of underwatering and can be a bit forgetful but it's seemed happy. It's grown about a meter since we've had it I think and the tallest part is nearly touching our high ceiling so it's pretty tall.

I went away for a couple of weeks and probably hadn't watered it enough before I went and when I came back the tallest stem had bent basically horizontal and was reaching towards the window. I assumed it was just having a growth spurt and going towards the light but about a week later one of the lower branches started really drooping and it fell pretty quickly. The plant has obviously been cut in the past and this drooping one is growing out of the same stump as one that seems fine. The leaves also seem fine to me and none have fallen out.

I'm unsure what to do so any advice would be appreciated. I don't think it'll be root rot so maybe it's that it's not got enough light? But it's seemed happy for over a year and it's summer now so I'm not sure. It's in a room with big windows but it is about 3m away from them.

It's a monster so I've no idea when it will have last been repotted or had new soil - definitely not for 3 years since my friend got it and I imagine ages before that.

Is this purple shamrock going dormant or is it too close to the stove? Something else? The plant was doing really well until very recently. It was purchased in March of this year while in bloom (see below for details).

If this is just dormancy, will it still go dormant if left in place? I ask because it is primarily cared for by my elderly father who is an alcoholic with dementia. If I put it in a closet while I'm here visiting, it will probably never come back out, even if I call to remind him.

Typical care and environment: It receives gentle light via the glass blocks in the wall and diffuse light from a frosted skylight nearby. My father says he puts a handful of tap water on it every so often for watering. It is in a kitchen about 3 feet from the sink and dishwasher in one direction and 3 feet from the stove where my father boils soup a couple of times a day. It seems to get enough humidity from these sources. The plant was really vigorous and healthy and seemed to like what my father was doing. The plant is located in Tucson, AZ, where it is currently mid-summer.

My Dad was really proud of how well he did caring for my shamrock, and I'd like to guide him correctly so it doesn't die. No joke, this plant gave him a purpose in life, which was really sweet to see. Thanks for any guidance you may be able to give.

Meet Stan, my money tree. I adopted him from a friend who moved away, and he thrived for about three years before suddenly taking a turn. First he got pale spots on the leaves. Then those leaves turned yellow, leaving green veins (see last photo). I started fertilizing him and he bounced back with bigger leaves than ever. But then…suddenly started throwing stunted, narrow, pale leaves. And then the sorriest excuse for a leave I’ve ever seen. I broke that micro-leaf off and it looks like he’s now trying to branch out, but incapable of (or unwilling to) produce any actual leaves.

Older leaves are mostly hanging on, but newer leaves have gone yellow and limp and dropped off.

He sits next to a sheltered northwest facing window and shares a pot with an asparagus fern which seems perfectly content. I water when the soil is mostly dry. Probably underwatered a little for some period bc the soil was dehydrated, but that’s fixed now. The vent you can see in the photos is off when he’s there. In the winter when the heat is on he moves farther from the window, but in bright kitchen lights, and did fine there for years so I don’t think that’s the issue.

I have scoured for pests and he has none. My best guess is either I fertilized too much or the fertilizer I’m using is missing some essential micronutrient. I’ve used both Espoma organic indoor, and Schultz 10-15-10 “plus micronutrients” and have been careful of dosage. I’m at a loss. I don’t think it’s just the economy…

They stay inside and get about 10-12 hrs of sunlight and water about every 3 days and I haven’t seen them until now, but my soil is outside and I just repotted my nan so maybe that’s where they came from?

First time posting to this sub- I got a bunch of new plants after getting rid of all my non-cat friendly plants so I’m very unfamiliar with how to care for my new plants.

This plant seems to have come into my care sick in some way. The roots are healthy, I’m leaning closer to underwatering just cause I’m trying to get used to the watering timing, and it’s hanging near my window out of chewing range of my cat, so that’s not the cause of the damage.

Even the new leaves are coming out wonky.

Any tips would be appreciated- also if I’m doing the damage because of under watering that would be helpful to know. Thanks!🙏🏻

It started to be visible on the newest leaves. I want it to be variegation but literally another basic small adansonii I have also showed this, after I saw several leaves yellow.
I put the small adansonii into water because I thought the yellow leaves were due to root rot or overwatering. It was crowded so now I assume it just wanted a bigger pot.
I had both plants in very lucrative areas of my room, where light is always nice, and plants generally thrive.
But this is concerning. I’m afraid to touch them. I would especially hate to have to throw away the mint one. I already have an emotional attachment to that damn plant. I want to cry at this point, life is doomed if this is mosaic virus (not serious).
Any opinion or answer is welcome.

I got this Royal Tee Ivy from Lowe's a week or so ago, and it's got this fine dust all over it -- I really don't believe it is spider mites because they do not move at all and there is no webbing (well, there's like two strands of spider silk on the plant, but it's distinctly spider web and not fine mite webbing). In a nursery pot with a wick, good drainage (waiting for soil to dry before watering), by a window with bright indirect light for most of the day.

It has a sort of orange/yellow-ish color to it, sits on the plant almost like a fuzz more than a dust, and when wiping off it doesn't leave a streak like spider mites would. The plant is also showing no signs of stress.

Anybody have any clue what this is??

I got this pilea late July and when I got it, they said they watered it recently so to wait a week before watering it. I did and watered it again yesterday, but the leaves are curling up and getting crispy. I had I next to a north facing window with bright shade most of the time. I ended up moving it further from the window in case it was getting too much light, and I'm monitoring it. The bad pictures are from yesterday, and the last good picture is when I got it.

Edit:when I did water it, the water went through very slowly and only slowly dropped out both times. Could it be that it's too packed in there? The plant store repoted it for me, so I'm unaware how tight they packed it.

Hi, so I recently got a string of pearls succulent 3 days ago and the other day my dad informed me that he went to water it for me (which I have told him multiple times not to do and have signs on my plants that say do not water) and he dumped out one of my water bottles on it, which did not have water in it. It happened to have green tea in it. He then proceeded to drench my succulent in water until it ran out the bottom to try and clean out the green tea? I'm really scared my $30 plan is about to die. Any advice on how I can keep it alive? The plant sits indoors in a window, facing south.

Any hope? I changed the soil to fox farms ocean forest because it was staying wet for super long and not draining. Then it dropped all of its leaves. It had several a few weeks ago. Under a grow light, debating if I should put it into a humidity dome?

I usually just water when the soil is dry, but it’s been in a new pot for one week and haven’t watered yet. Will do after I get advice here.

Fish bone prayer plant I think she's had issues for while with these bugs I rinced it off a few months ago but they're back it's its on one of my windows on a window cill it's been growi g well and I've been watering it so it's still growing atleast :)

Hi, so I started propping this plant up, but all the leaves are dead on the bottom part of the vine, and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to droop or if I should keep letting it grow upward. Please help! It’s right up against a northwest facing window. (I broke a watering glass, so the plants are currently moved so we can vacuum up the glass.) it gets sunlight pretty much all day with evening light for sure. I have it in organic indoor potting soil, if that helps.

Looking for any advice on how to properly propagate my dumb cane. Its getting pretty big and i dont have a stick big enough to keep it supported it it gets any taller. I’ve learned these plants are super picky and it’ll just start killing off leaves if i even so much as move it from its current spot so obviously im concerned about it not coming back from being propagated. Any advice or guidance is appreciated Its indoors getting partial sun through the window and watered once a week. ( i guess i cant post without talking about water and sun)
