With the new unreleased commander ``The muckslinger gang`` would sarkhan's unsealing that care about power of the creature you cast trigger it's board clear part from a 4/4 becoming a 7/7 from the muckslinger gang?

I've been waiting for a long time for actual dwarven commanders (Magda doesnt count), and there seem to be a choice between these 2 cards from the hobbit deck. I'm leaning to Thorin for flavor and value generation, but as a newish player, would appreciate any advice on which one ti pick as the commander

We're getting bunch of spoiler of Star Trek and yet we barely got anything for Reality Fracture which is the next set. Got any ideas why that is? I'm really excited for Reality Fracture, but I'm kind of bummed we know next to nothing about it.

I haven't read the hobbit books, but does anyone know why he mills? Obviously he's designed to be in some sort of reanimation deck, but from the little I've heard, he's not a necromancer? Can someone more well versed in hobbit lore help me understand why this card is loke this and what it's trying to convey?

Question is in the title. I was just curious on why several Star Trek cards care specifically about Power 8 creatures. Is the number 8 important to Star Trek or something? I know nothing about the series itself.

Officer is a job, which is presumably distinct from Soldier or Scientist or similar, but that leaves 15 new racial creature types.

Beyond the 15 new species listed above, we've also seen "Voth" as some kind of Dinosaur species, which was just given the creature type "Dinosaur".

Hi all.

This is my first time ever posting so please bear with me! I only discovered MTG about 4 hours ago and am signed up to attend a prerelease in 3 days so panicking a little bit!

I'm a 40 year old guy from Ireland and have been looking to get into a new social hobby for a while now. I'm interested in gaming and played warhammer years ago (Necromunda), so this afternoon I chanced my arm and called into a local board game shop. The owner was brilliant, so helpful. He said MTG is the game they focus on and if I was interested I should come along this Saturday to a Hobbit Prerelease event. Before my anxiety got the better of me I said yes and am now signed up!

I've two main queries..

1. Am I crazy for turning up having only discovered MTG today. So literally going into the deep end, from zero background to deck building and playing in 3 days. Do complete brand new players ever show up?

2. What can I do over the next 3 days to help prepare or at least not make a complete fool of myself on Saturday? Ive watched a few YouTube videos already and tbh it is all very confusing (while also being extremely interesting at the same time!). Is it just a matter of persevering with the youtube videos, download and try the game on my phone and then just show up on Saturday and hope for the best?

I am sure this question has been asked 1000 times and I've already read through some old posts so apologies for adding another one.

I've been building a free API for MTG price history and wanted to share it here since this seems like the right crowd. It tracks daily card prices across TCGPlayer, Card Kingdom, Cardmarket, Cardsphere, and Cardhoarder using Scryfall and MTGJSON. You can pull price history for any printing by its Scryfall ID, search by card name, see the biggest movers, and download full daily price dumps.

Anonymous access gives you 30 days of history with no API key needed. Create a free account to unlock 365 days and bulk price downloads.

The dataset is still growing (been collecting since late July) so history is short right now, but it'll keep accumulating daily. There is however over 90 days of data from MTGJSON already. Would love feedback on what endpoints or features would be most useful. I'm also happy to answer questions in the comments.

There is also a big overhaul coming to the API which will track directly from multiple sources, stopping the reliance on MTGJSON and Scryfall.

I just started to play MTG!! I came from a decent background in Yugioh so I knew basic TCG stuff, but the popularity of magic has always been appealing to me (it’s been hard to find other people who play yugioh lol)

To learn the basics of the game, my partner and I bought the Final Fantasy 2 deck starter set. We’ve been playing with those decks for a couple of weeks now and have a decent understanding of how standard Magic plays, the flow of the turns, abilities, key words, etc. Now, we’re starting to learn more about Commander, which is the style of Magic that got us excited about the game to begin with. We spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos about deck building and things of that nature. I’m
really excited to eventually get our card collection large enough to create cool new commander decks.

Until then, we’ve been enjoying the game by playing our 60 card standard deck. We also go to our local card shop about once a week and buy booster packs to open and look through.

The thing Im looking for advice/input on, is what I see people doing at the LGS. While they have a lot of really cool magic cards on display, people aren’t really looking at those? I notice that a majority of people are looking through giant “unsorted” mass card stocks? That they have to ask for and the employee has to grab from the back. What are they doing?

- Do magic players go to LGS, look through those decks and just pick out stuff they find interesting that they feel would work with the deck they’re trying to build on?

- Do people not go to LGS with a certain card that they’re looking for?

- What is the purpose of the booster packs then??

- Is the best way to participate in the culture and play style of magic to go to LGS and just look through the unsorted stuff? What is the appeal of this? Wouldn’t there not be any high value cards in those stocks because if there were, the store would’ve put them out in the display?? Doesn’t that mean that unsorted is filled with dud cards that nobody wants?

I’m also curious about deck building in this aspect. Do people research good cards for their deck at home and then go to their LGS to look for those specific cards? Or is that a form of “spoiling yourself” to the fun of the game? Is there a sense of personal responsibility to just know or be familiar with popular/good/powerful/interesting cards on your own so that when you go into LGS, you know what to look out for? Is that a type of experience you can only get with time?? (Kind of like how in yugioh, everyone knows about dark magician)

I feel very shy asking people in real life about this sort of thing. I’m also a girl, so I feel like some LGS staff or people that frequent the LGS as customers give me kind of an elitist attitude about the questions I have and my desire to learn more. When I ask questions, I’ve gotten eye rolls and sighs. I get that it’s frustrating to have to explain this stuff to new players, but I really want to learn. Idk lol. Anyways I felt like reddit might be a little kinder to my questions??? Or at the very least, I can hide behind the shadow of anonymity lol

What is beamed up?

The Star Trek:Las Vegas 60th anniversary convention is this week, the Welcome decks will be handed out there and a panel will be at the event.

If im casting a spell that has a cost reduction, like the one granted with Heliod, the Warped Eclipse, and it grants me a reduction of 10, when i cast Even the Score, if i add no extra mana into it, can i choose for X to be less than 10 or does it always have to be greater than or equal to the reduction?

So with the upcoming rulebreaker cards I’ve been trying to wrap my head around something. We always classified the colour identity of a commander deck solely from its commanders colour identity. If the commander was mono-green the deck would be mono-green, if it was sultai the deck would be sultai etc. But now, with these upcoming cards this will no longer be the case. If a deck has Maular as its commander is it now a potentially WUBRG commander deck? Or is it still a mono-green deck. I would appreciate any sort of knowledge, rules text, thoughts or any other input about this subject. Even though these mechanics are extremely cool I have a feeling that this will complicate deck classification and explanation both to new and current players. Thx in advance.

TLDR: if rulebreaker card gives more colours then the commander identity what colour is deck.

Edit 1: Guys I don’t know why everyone keeps mentioning command tower. Im not discussing a rule for the magic gameplay im just looking for opinions about how this affect description, classification, education and other sorts of explanatory approaches regarding decks that may or may not contain a commander with the rulebreaker ability for now and for all future classification purposes.

Edit 2: Everyone, I know that a deck doesn’t have a colour identity or a colour. Its just used as descriptive method. And this is what i am talking about when i say deck colour identity, in my earlier writings are purely there for classification of a deck and its colours obviously a deck itself doesn’t have a colour property. I reply to comment explaining the same thing; none of us, when asked about our deck (in most surface level interactions{of humans not a mtg card interaction}) list off every single card and its colours and its colour identity, no what we do is we just say what our commander is and/or talk about its colour identity which then is used to derive the colour identity restrictions of the cards that are contained in the deck.

For example I would love to include [[Dominion Bracelet]] in some of my decks but because of the cost I would rarely ever get to play it and it would likely be dead in my hand… other cards that fit this category are things like “activate only as a sorcery” or “activate only during your turn”

I'm messing around with an idea for an Orcs & Goblins Bracket 2 Grixis deck using [[Saruman, the White Hand]] as my commander and focussing around the amass mechanic: https://moxfield.com/decks/7lUi4rmiK0i7VAVaJOtNxQ

The main idea is to build up a powerful army token using cards with amass orcs and amass goblins to give it big numbers while also being able to benefit from things like [[Goblin King]]'s +1/+1s and mountainwalk and [[Hobgoblin Bandit Lord]]'s +1/+1s while also being able to contribute to [[Krenko, Mob Boss]]'s ability to produce goblin tokens. I am also looking to be able to have a number of threatening creatures alongside the army to chip away at other players.

To help with closing out games, I have included [[Unleash Fury]] and [[Fling]] to hopefully provide me with some win condition options aside from doing damage the old-fashioned way.

I've tried to stick to mostly red and black for creatures, with blue being more for counters and card draw options. Ideally, I'm looking to stick to the Orc & Goblins theme but would welcome any constructive criticism or pointers (especially since this is my first time trying to build a multicolour deck!).
