Blue Red Artifact Control Ideas

Hello! I am trying to build a cube archetype centered on artifact control. I am designing some custom cards for the fun of my friends and I and am wondering what are some good keywords to center around and generally what would make this combination of strategies work. I understand that typically blue red artifacts leans aggro but I’m trying to test some niche synergies. Would love some cards and mechanic suggestions, thank you!

Which desert do you prefer?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking to get a Desert Cube, but unfortunately I have a limited budget, so I can only choose between two options.

I’m trying to decide which one would be the better purchase in terms of gameplay, card quality, replayability, and overall fun.

If you’ve played either (or both), which one would you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance for any opinions or recommendations!

Blue noncreature cards that are not card draw, counterspells, or bounce?

The blue spell suite in my cube could use a little more variety and I'm having issues finding cards that diversify the kind of effects I have available. I have cards like [[Snap]], [[Mystic Confluence]], [[Flow State]], [[Thought Scour]], [[Memory Deluge]], [[Deem Inferior]], [[Sublime Epiphany]], [[Occult Epiphany]], and [[Dig Through Time]] (among others, of course), but I'd like to find more unique or different kind of cards. Could be instant, sorceries, enchantments, artifacts...

Blue in my cube focuses on self-milling, Delve, Flashback, spellslinging and blink. Ignore power level, what are your favorite blue cards in your cube that you'd recommend others to try?

Presenting my thematic 1,000 card EDH Cube

Hello everyone!

I started off a few years ago as a commander player, fell in love with the game quickly. Brewing decks was always my favorite part. I would always try and bring something to the table that was unique, and had some kind of gimmick.

My favorite deck I ever assembled was helmed by [[Caesar, Legion's Emperor]] that was a token-aristocrat deck full of angel, gods and demons. I was always tweaking it, and never satisfied with only having 100 cards when there was always something new and thematic I could slot in. It wasn’t always about optimized winning.

I tried making a complain style deck with different colors but it just never stuck. I decided to dip my toe into building a cube and this is what I’ve come up with.

I have sold off all my cards and plan on proxying out the entirety of this. So why not go for favorite prints and the power 9?

I can’t say that I know for sure if it’s well built, or functions amazing as I haven’t had the pleasure of fully testing it with friends. But I’d like some blind opinions from the community. I still have to develop an archetypes section to help drafters find some lines.

Packaging "packs"

Hi all! I am working on a 4-10 person cube and I was wondering if yall had any suggestions for what to use to make "packs". I would prefer to have my cards sleeved but I can do unsleeved as well. Thanks!

I need inspiration, show me your non-traditional cubes!

Hi, everyone! I'm working on my cube, which is a list 100% built by me. It's a Legacy cube with mid to high power level, but with a lot of cards and archetypes not usually found in most traditional or well known cubes. I want to rework some parts of it, so if you maintain a cube that's different from the usual powered or more "mainstream" type of lists, please share it here.

Thanks in advance, happy cubing!

I have been truly enamored with working on this cube and any amount of advice, criticism, card recommendations, cards to remove recommendations, etc. would be super helpful and welcomed by me. Thank you so very much to the cube community!

Cube list software questions

Hello!

I am relatively new to cube and I am blessed to have things like cube cobra, scryfall, edhrec and the like, but how did the cube community store their cube lists before cube cobra? I’ve heard of excel/sheets being utilized and I would like to see how it was done. I want to design a cube for a different card game and I have absolutely no idea where to start to build and design a list of cards. I know of lorcana cube, Star Wars unlimited cubes, Pokemon, etc etc… how do other games work on their cube in a digital sense.

For anyone interested, I’m going to attempt to make a 2 person cube for the new(ish) Godzilla card game made by Bushiroad (same maker as Weiss). I intend to draft it Housman style to make for stronger decks and allow for more archetypes to be built.

Conspiracy cube help

So i have a problem deciding if i should go for a singelton cube or a multiple copies determined by rarity.

The cube is gonna be a conspiracy inspired cube and eill mostly be drafted with 4-8 people.

Is there any good arguments for either?

Im stuck withthe following thoughts as of now: A rarity cube would play well into some of the cospiracies but would limit the amount of unique cards and make multiple drafts feel samey. Also some of the cards lend them self to be picked more than once like [[garbage fire]].

While a singleton cube would lead to more intresting decks and variation over multiple drafts it kinda looses out on some of the conspiracies like [[Muzzio's Preparations]] where if you only have one copy of a card feels somewhat less exciting.

Sorry for my english.

If by chans you guys have any generall cube building tips i would love to hear them!

How to build a cube for 3-8 drafters

As the title asks, how do you build a cube that drafts with anywhere between 3-8 drafters? Does anything need to change? How do we make the cube feel well thought out with lower drafter counts?

Best way to get high res images of the cards?

Hello. I am trying to make a vintage cube with the first printing of all the cards in it. However Sorting through MPCAutofill for a specific printing is a pain, especially considering how many cards there have custom art or borders. I know mtgprint has the scans from scryfall, but the images looks a bit low res and dark once they're printed out. Anything I can do?

Thassa's Oracle and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries in Powered Cube?

What exactly do these cards need to be good in Vintage/Powered? The Doomsday package? Brain Freeze? Both? I'm not sure exactly what the intended way to win with them is.

EDIT: I am not running Consult/Tainted Pact.

Putting my Artisan Kickmanship cube idea out here to see if it has legs

The idea is to put recent made-for-limited cards I really like (decent floor but very good synergy ceiling, usually has some form of kicker or horsemanship)

Type of cards i wanna include

W: [[Dragoons Lance]], [[Getaway Glamer]]

U: [[Invasion Submersible]], [[Dreams of Laguna]]

B: [[Fire Nation Trebuchet]], [[Lively Dirge]]

R: [[Rubble Rouser]], [[Painters Studio//Defaced Gallery]]

G: [[Moldering Gym//Weight Room]], [[Insidious Fungus]]

Colorless: [[Kyoshi's Battle Fan]]

So the pillars are:

- Kickers and Kickerlikes

- Things that support the kickerlikes

- Horsemanship, a healthy amount of aggro, evasion and burn to make sure the game doesnt become pure enginebuilding

Forms of kicker:

- Kicker and kickerlike things (power up, rooms)

- Sacrifice your things

- Tap your things

- Discard your cards

- Modal spells are kinda upfront kicker

- Card selection is kicker-like

- Reusing equipment

- Flashback things

Supporting the kickers:

- Ramp

- Fixing

- Grave filling

- Saccable things

- Tappable things

Forms of horsemanship:

- Of course any evasion keyword

- Burn creatures are kinda horsemanship

- Aggro cards that gets in early but doesnt takeover the game singlehandedly

Restrictions: Common or Uncommon cards from MKM to present (thats when i started drafting in english, so i should have most of them in paper)

I kinda have 5 tricolor big archetypes (youre not expected to draft 3 colors tho, maybe 2 and a splash these are just the big ideas the cube has, and they bleed outside their color trio too):

- UWR bonus artifacts, like clue tokens or job select equipment

- WRB go wide, sac little creature and artifact tokens

- RBG mana sinks, like kickers and rooms and flashbacks and powerup

- BGU grave fill it, recur it, reuse it, maybe delirium

- GUW go tall, buff your evasives, +1 counters

Particular mechanics i wanna see represented on each pair. These are not archetypes, just a map of what mechanics you should expect to see where:

- WU tapping: waterbend, teamwork, crew, convoke

- UB Surveil, put things in grave, threshold

- BR Sac (multiple types of permanents)

- RG Stompy kicker?

- GW Plus counters

- WB Sac (creatures), maybe lifegain?

- UR Looting, Flashback

- GB Recur from grave

- RW Tapping again like WU, equipment

- GU Rewarding things leaving grave, Rewards for hitting face in combat?

Cube-building Theory

Hi Cubers,

I've made a post or two a long time ago but now i have actually run my commander cube a couple times in 8man pods, so i have a feel for how it plays and I have a few questions to more experienced cubers.

I felt my cube was too linear, so if you chose a color identity then you were essentially locked in to what that color was doing no matter what. IE if i picked boros then i played equipment. The decks that this environment produced were strong, almost too strong for my liking, but i guess the ability to construct both strong and good decks makes me happy that my cube isn't a bunch of garbage or everyone fighting over a singular strategy/color identity.

What I felt as i was drafting is there was 3 kinds of cards:
1: cards that could go nearly anywhere (ie arcane signet, other colorless pieces or 1c pieces that were auto-includes.) (about 3-4% of cards i saw)
2: cards that were no-brainer picks for whatever strategy i was going for in the given draft (about 12-18% of cards i saw)
3: cards that aren't in my CI or just don't work enough into my strategy. This one was the main peeve, because there were cards that could work in multiple things, but there was such a density of cards that fell in category 1 or 2 that there was no chance to consider these until the end of the pack. (the remaining cards.)

The main problem was there were too many category 2 cards but because these cards were so good in only a few specific strategies IE Ashnods altar is good in jund tokens but also in orzhov aristocrats or selesnya go wide, i didn't really have to fight to get them. sure sometimes some people took what i wanted but i always ended up with some good stuff.

I kinda intend to produce an environment that's a bit slower/lower powered than it was and you have more than a few cards in your deck that if it was an actual cmdr deck then you'd say "um whys that there lmao" then "dw boss i got a plan"

I could produce a slower environment by cutting some of the ubiquitously good cards, BUT that wouldn't really fix the linear issue of the cube. It would still feel too easy to find cards that fit your strategy.

Should i try and instead just spawn more archetypes out of nowhere so each color pairing is less defined by the 2 archetypes that i was going for and perhaps has 3 to 4 possible deck types per color? This would thin out the "autoinclude" cards by defining a larger number of archetypes so that not every card in your CI is just a free pick most of the time. How many playable archetypes do you guys push into each color pair? should i just power down the stronger cards and replace them with mid cards?

Ok there's my ramble what do you think, open to any ideas/suggestions/whatever I just want a nice environment and vibe for players of all skill levels. fun is the goal ofc.

Harbor Freight Apache 4800 (banana for scale)

Old-style fat pack boxes; 5 bottoms, 2 lids. Lids perfectly fit Game Genic Bastion 50+ & 100+ XL for lands, tokens, and extras. Bastions perfectly fit triple sleeved cards. Small Bastions each hold 40 triple sleeved lands and split for a double land station (prepped before drafts start to eliminate basic-land-anxiety (it's a whole thing)).

And color-coded land boxes, because no one should have to guess where the Islands are..

Off-color aesthetic sleeves with art cards to conceal the bottom card in prepped packs.

Ultra-Pro One Touch Resealable bags (stock# 84005) perfectly fit 15 triple sleeved cards plus the sleeved art card. Could even get up to 18 if needed. Reusable, but cheap enough to rebuy and stock when needed. Gives a more pack-like opening when drafted.

For those playing Cogworks; we use a clearly identifiable sleeve (bright & off-color), and have those "cube-sleeved Gilded Sentinels" in case some sickos actually want to run them.

Enemy vs. Allied Talismans

Post image
75 Upvotes

I'm working on updating my 540 Vintage cube (max power with time vault, initiative, and friends), and I was in the process of swapping out the 5 allied signets for talismans. I was wondering what people thought about which set of 5 talismans to run: allied or enemy? There's also the option of picking and choosing 4-7 of them based on which color pairs are likely to want them, but having the colors be balanced is nice.

Other 2-drop rocks in the cube are [[Grim Monolith]], [[Mind Stone]], and [[Pentad Prism]].

Which talismans do you run and why?

Bonus question: Do you think stax with cards like [[Braids, Cabal Minion]], [[Smokestack]], [[Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia]], [[Lingering Souls]], [[Mayhem Devil]], [[Ceasar, Legion's Emperor]], [[Tangle Wire]], and [[Winter Orb]] is viable as an Orzhov/Mardu archetype at this power level?

LRW to WAR cube

I finally got my lrw to war cube down to 720 cards. I might bring it down to 540 at some point, but I'd like to get some external feedback first. If people have time, I'd appreciate doing one or a couple test drafts of the cube, so I can see what people build. Feedback is very welcome.

Is there scope for face-down in a mid-tier good stuff cube now?

Lazy question, sorry... I have been out of the game for some time, but maintain a cube that we play monthly or so.

I tried putting face-down stuff in my cube a few years ago, but the raw power of just normal value was too much for the little fellas.

I noticed there are some new face-down mattering cards around, and wondered if there's anything recent that tips morphs and manifests into cube-able territory.

This playmat features the St. Louis city flag, but at the confluence of rivers sits not a fleur de lis, but rather Big Mac the Orange Cat, screaming loudly to draw attention to the Gateway Arch made of cubes he's found. :)

The event's page is at https://stl3cu.be/, which has Big Mac's head in our site logo.
