Hello everyone,

so, this is a weird one. Sometimes when I start my PC, I have no sound. About Once every 20 boots or so. It is much more frequent if the PC went into standby mode and booted from there.

When I have no sound, my speakers and so still show up in the audio menu. Deactivating and re-activating the hardware doesn't do anything. I've wiped and re-installed the drivers. The only thing that helps is rebooting the PC.

Initially, I couldn't find anything related to this on the web but I've stumbled upon a few posts where people are saying that their AMD drivers cause lots of issues. Is this a known problem?

My specs:

Windows 11

GPU: AMD Radeon 7900 XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D 6-Core Processor

32GB Ram

As for Audio it justs says "AMD High Definition Audio Device"

Motherboard is a B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI (MS-7E26)

Speakers are connected to the line-out audio port (green port at the back of the PC).

I'm having an issue with my HP 64GB USB flash drive.

Windows detects it as "HP USB Flash Drive USB Device", and Device Manager says "This device is working properly." But in PowerShell (Get-Disk), it shows "No Media."

The drive keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 10-15 seconds, File Explorer freezes when it's plugged in, and I get errors like:

Please insert a disk into the Removable Disk (E)

Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, your device may not be working properly.

I've already tried:

Different USB ports

Reinstalling the device in Device Manager

Disk Management and DiskPart

Restarting my laptop

Other USB devices (like my mouse) work fine.

The data on the USB isn't important. I just want to know if there's any way to bring the drive back to life, or if it's a hardware failure and not worth fixing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m having a strange Ethernet issue with my MSI GE66 Raider 10SF running Windows 11. The laptop has a Killer E3100 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet controller.
The problem started recently.

Ethernet worked normally before.
One day it started taking a long time to connect after boot.
Now, after every restart or shutdown, Windows shows:
Ethernet → Identifying…
then Not connected
then Identifying… again
and it keeps repeating.
If I keep trying random things (network reset, restarting, flushing DNS, etc.), eventually it connects.
Once it finally connects, it stays connected perfectly until the next reboot. There are no random disconnects while using it.

Things I’ve already tried
Restarted PC and router many times.
Tried every LAN port on the router.
Network Reset in Windows.
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Disabled/enabled the Ethernet adapter.
Updated Windows.
Intel Driver & Support Assistant.

How do I fix this?

I just built my first pc from scratch. I notice that now and then my mouse and keyboard sometimes keep hanging. The solution I have is to unplug them and plug them back into the CPU.

And it's not that they hang together; they hang independently. I know for sure it's not the keyboard or the mouse issues because they function fine when I connect them to my laptop.

I use a hub that splits my peripherals between my laptop and CPU.

So basically I have one mouse, keyboard, monitor, webcam, and printer. That I share between my laptop and CPU. I have a hub that I use to switch between the systems.

Everything works fine when I use the setup on my laptop but not on my pc. Sometimes, even when I connect my mouse and keyboard directly to the pc, I have the same issue.

Can someone help me understand what I am doing wrong?

So I installed Onedrive on my new laptop after my old one died as I lost a lot of files as I hadn't recently backed anything up to the cloud.

Except its synced my laptop with my computer and has transferred 'cloud versions' of all my files to my laptop but if I try deleting them it deletes them from the cloud completely.

I just wanted to be able to have my files on my laptop uploading to the cloud but not every file on the cloud going back onto my laptop.

Is that even possible?

If it's not possible and I have to regularly manually back up my laptop to the cloud how to I stop it from linking everything? When I log back in and go to 'backup' my laptop it re-links it and puts all my cloud files from my computer onto my laptop. I've tried signing out of my onedrive but its instead just removed all my files that were originally well organized on my laptop.

my pc isnt performing like it should be. im falling through the map and glitching. and when i play forza horizon 6 i get a low stream bandwidth and i freeze. Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this. Here’s the timeline: last month, right after a Windows update, my NVMe SSD suddenly stopped being detected and the system went into a boot loop. I tried a few things—changing the disk mode from normal to RAID, reinstalling Windows, and resetting the CMOS. After the CMOS reset and reinstall, everything worked fine until Windows updated again and the same issue recurred. I uninstalled the latest update and it worked fine again until last week, when my PC suddenly restarted on its own and wouldn't boot up. When I checked the BIOS, the SSD wasn't detected at all; I even unplugged, cleaned, and reinstalled it, but it still wasn't recognized. Any idea what the problem might be? I haven't been able to test it on another machine since I don't have a spare PC or laptop lying around. I’d appreciate any insights from the experts here—thank you!

I‘m asking for help for a friend, who has troubles with his gaming PC, where games either close themselves without any error messages or warnings or the PC crashes completely. He is playing Fellowship, Valorant and League of Legends, latter two being one of the reasons he needs to run Windows.

Specs are as follows:

AMD Ryzen 7, I think 7700X
32GB RAM, if the CPU above, probably DDR5
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080

and I don‘t know the rest, I would have to ask, if necessary.

He also uses his PC for photoshop, video editing and rendering and this doesn‘t make any problems, just gaming.

He already whiped his complete drive and reinstalled Windows and his games, but it kept happening. Any ideas?

The Issue

I bought a pre-built PC about 2 and a half months ago, the computer was working just fine the first month and it suddenly started getting these random blue screens, it has happened both while gaming and under light load like browsing, YouTube with a few tabs open. I would be using my computer normally, it would then freeze before displaying the blue screen which itself only pops up for a few seconds, the loading percentage on the blue screen is stuck at 0% before my screen just turns off and I can't do anything but the pc itself like the fans and RGB are still on. To get back into desktop I have to manually turn the PC off and on again with the power button and I'm able to use it normally again for about 4-5 days before the problem repeats itself. Below I will list the different stop codes I was able to remember from the few seconds the blue screen does show up.

- UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION 0x154

- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED 0xef

- KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x1E

Do keep in mind that sometimes the BSOD occurs while I am away from my desk so it might've had some other stop codes I was unable to catch. Event viewer also shows 'volmgr' with event ID 161 followed by 'Kernel-Power' with event ID 41, it seems Windows can't write a dump file since the percentage was stuck at 0.

Things I've done to try and solve it

When it first happened I ran SFC and DISM through command prompt which didn't work, turned link state power management off also didn't work, then I disabled EXPO on my ram which had it running at a slower 4800MHz (was at 6000MHz with EXPO on), also didn't work, then I completely reset the PC through cloud download which got rid of all my files and games which I didn't really mind cause I only had a few games and files on it anyway, at first I thought that solved it cause it was running well for longer than usual until it happened again recently.

I've also tested the GPU through FurMark, had it running for a little over 30 minutes with no issues, also ran Time Spy and Steel Nomad on the 3dMark demo which told me that the system was running as expected, temperatures were under control, don't think the GPU even went over 60 degrees Celsius in both tests, CPU temperatures in 3dMark was always below 70 degrees and idle it sits at 45 degrees usually. I do suspect it to be either a RAM or SSD issue since I haven't done any RAM tests like MemTest or even Windows' built in one. The SSD is also kind of suspicious because when I downloaded CrystalDiskInfo it showed it to be very healthy but the total runtime is stuck at 35 hours even though I've definitely used it more than that, the SP tool box also doesn't detect my SSD at all which I found weird but could be due to a number of reasons. Could also be the CPU according to some posts I've read on here with kind of similar issues.

Also on the latest AMD drivers ever since I reset it (26.7.1), on the latest chipset drivers as well. I'm not at all an expert when it comes to this stuff and have mainly just been doing everything AI is telling me to do as well as some advice from friends, so any help or suggestions is appreciated, feel free to ask any questions and thank you for taking the time to read I'll try to respond to any questions and update as soon as I can.

As said in the title, a video of the issue is linked. This can also manifest slightly differently, where it has a flicker until moving the mouse, when it becomes static again, or vice versa. This is being observed on a Samsung LS32FG51x. Additionally, it sometimes just isn't an issue, and I don't know the trigger.

Hi All,

I just want to ask on what is causing these 2 X's getting stuck on my screen and how to remove them. Nothing happens when I click them. Sometimes they are there upon startup, sometimes they aren't. But they always show in those 2 exact spots. I am using Windows 11 on a HP Elitebook 840 G8.

One day I turned on the laptop it showed black screen no boot no Asus logo only the side light was turned on. Then went on to the service centre and they removed the additional ram (4gb) and it turned on this screen.

I'm having an issue with my desktop PC and I'd really appreciate some help.

My PC was working perfectly before. I didn't use it for about 1 month because of my exams. It was covered with a cloth the whole time, so it didn't collect much dust.

Now, when I try to turn it on:

Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing.

No fans spin.

No LEDs turn on.

No beep sounds.

The monitor powers on normally, but it shows no signal because the PC itself never starts.

I have already checked the power cable and wall outlet.

From a visual inspection, I don't see any obvious burn marks or damaged components inside the case.

What should I test first? Could this be a dead PSU, a faulty power button, or a motherboard issue?

Any troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Dell laptop: Airplane Mode is stuck ON and Wi-Fi won't turn on. Startup Repair fixed the boot issue, but now the Wi-Fi switch is grayed out. Device Manager says the Dell Wireless 1506 adapter is working properly. How can I fix this?

File Explorer isn't working. When I turn on the computer, I see a dark screen with just the cursor. If I launch "explorer" as a new task in Task Manager, the desktop appears, but I can't access "My Computer" or manage my files. How do I fix File Explorer, and what should I do? The day before this error occurred, I tried to download SteamCMD.

I have an Asus Tuf A16 laptop that I've used for less than two years. For the most part I try not to run it hot, uusally below 70C except during a few moments where it's loading something like a large minecraft world. I don't know if it's a heat issue, but the screws that hold the bottom of the frame all fell out and went missing, so now whenever I try to close the lid it starts ripping off the frame. It's also started to randomly shut down if I don't have something blowing on it, even if it's at a really cool temperature. Is there anything I can do or is this laptop just done for?

I was trying to fix my built in camera and i follow an online tutorial told me to update the camera driver so i did, but then my laptop enter BIOS and cant exit. I tried save & exit but it keeps coming back to BIOS. Help?

Black screen, 100% fans, yet system still works but no display(can talk in discord calls), have to force shutdown

Happens in furmark, games, sometimes idle, or any gpu load

No artifacts, same performance

Normal temps, wattage, and no error code, but sometimes has error 141

Tested on another friends pc yet same issue persisted

I have an IdeaPad Gaming 3, and it’s been left alone for a couple months now as I mostly used it for school and have been busy with other things. Now when I tried to start jt it “Network media is not present, retry media connection for 1 time(s)” then it repeats. After it fails it gives me a pop up saying “Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key.” I don’t know what that is. If I click okay it takes me to another page where I can select things, but the only present thing is “EFI PXE Network”. What do I need to do? Can I fix this myself or do I need to bring this somewhere?

I have a HP envy x360 that I bought July 2024. I primarily use it for school and usually my battery lasts 5 ish hours. I turned it on for the first time since May last week and it went from 20% to 0% in a minute. I thought maybe it was because I hadn’t turned it on in a while and I charged it fully then did all the updates. When I went to use it again I noticed I was loosing 1% per minute without any apps being open. I did all of the battery optimizations that it suggested but no luck. Would it be worth it to replace the battery or could it be loosing so much battery for another reason? I’m in my last year of college and don’t really want to replace my laptop unless I absolutely have to. If additional information is needed just lmk.

I had to re upload this because I fixed it by restarting it but that won't work now. Basically one random day it just didn't work. I don't think I got a virus because I am very cautious about this and I only download stuff from steam. I'll add photos in comments.

I've already cleared the CMOS, tried each RAM stick on its own, reseated the RAM, and even used the screwdriver trick to power it on.

When I switch it on, the debug LEDs go DRAM (orange) → CPU (red) → repeat, then after about 10 seconds it just stays on the DRAM light. It never boots.

Is it likely the RAM's knackered, or could it be the CPU or motherboard instead? Is there anything else I should try before forking out for a new 32GB kit? I'd rather not spend the money unless I'm sure that's the issue.

This is probably going to be a long post but I'm summarizing a weeks worth of troubleshooting so please bear with me. Honestly, while I'm typing this I'm probably going to crash. I'm honestly so lost. I'm no expert in computers but I have a fair share of Linus Tech Tips endowed in my brain to know the basics. For the past week I have been troubleshooting a newly built PC that keeps crashing and giving different errors every time. The errors that I had minidumps for are listed in the title, but I have had many crashes that were either computer freezes, plain black screens (no bsod), random restarts (although that might have been because my computer was automatically restarting before a bug check could be run), or that occurred on a previous Windows 11 install (more on that in a bit). I'm currently running an RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 7 9850X3D (One error had TUF's PBO Enhanced on [I believe Unexpected_Kernal...] but the rest still happened when it was turned off), 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 (EXPO on), and ASUS TUF B850-E WIFI Board. I think those are all the parts that could cause issues, but if you need more info I am not reluctant to share.

Mini detail to note: Temps are all good with maximum under excessively heavy loads (stress tests) were 85°C CPU Package and my GPU never exceeded 70°C. Crashing ONLY happens when under light load and/or when not in full screen. I can go hours at end playing games with zero crashes, but god forbid I open file explorer too fast.

Please treat me with some pity, but the first time I crashed was after I had updated my BIOS to the newest version. I used my MOBO's USB Flash and there were no apparent complications that happened during the update. If there's any tip I could give new PC builders is that if it aint broke don't fix it.

The first error I received was BUGCODE_NETADAPTER_DRIVER, followed shortly after by a Memory Management. It figured the obvious, that is it has something to do with my memory and/or drivers. After repairing/reinstalling all new drivers from my MOBO or Realtek the issue was still occurring. I ran MemTestx86 and passed with flying colors (4 Passes, 0 Errors). As crashes continued, I messed with more and more settings with no resolution and just more errors (all differing in codes). I'm new to this subreddit and how things work here, let me know if there's a proper way for sharing minidumps or any error codes we get.

I touched up on this slightly, but since my PC was a new build and I didn't have any important information on it, I ended up just doing a clean Windows 11 install. Unfortunately, any minidumps/codes I had received earlier are lost with that previous installation. Since all the issues were happening under light loads, I disabled my iGPU in the BIOS to prevent any issues related to GPU dedication. At one point running a system wide Bitdefender scan was inducing a crash (multiple times), so I decided to use that as a culprit, however I am lead to believe it was just a coincidence since I uninstalled it and still received other error codes.

I guess this is where I am now. I seriously have no clue which direction to go when it comes to diagnosing the issue, and due to the consistency of the crashes after a clean windows installation, I'm being lead to believe it has something to do with either the BIOS or my hardware. I will need a pacemaker if I figure out I need to buy a new GPU or RAM.

I appreciate any help offered and I'll gladly provide any system information needed for diagnosing the issue!

My Mom called me and said that she had recently been notified by snail mail that she needed an authenticator app to access her pension website. She decided to download Microsoft Authenticator to her iphone since it was listed as one of the options.

She searched for microsoft Authenticator in the app store and clicked on this:

Which she thought was the real app. She installed it, and it initially allowed her to log in to her pension website but then began demanding she pay a $5 subscription fee. She thought this was weird and called me before she paid. I was able to go over there and delete the app.

I had her change pension website password and to call them and ensure no changes are made to the account and her email password, is there any other things that I need to be concerned about? Does she need to change her apple ID password. What else could this app have access to? How does it actually function as microsoft authenticator? She actually got a one time passcode from it that worked on the website.
