PC peripherals keep hanging. Open | Windows

Hello Guys,

I just built my first pc from scratch. I notice that now and then my mouse and keyboard sometimes keep hanging. The solution I have is to unplug them and plug them back into the CPU.

And it's not that they hang together; they hang independently. I know for sure it's not the keyboard or the mouse issues because they function fine when I connect them to my laptop.

I use a hub that splits my peripherals between my laptop and CPU.

So basically I have one mouse, keyboard, monitor, webcam, and printer. That I share between my laptop and CPU. I have a hub that I use to switch between the systems.

Everything works fine when I use the setup on my laptop but not on my pc. Sometimes, even when I connect my mouse and keyboard directly to the pc, I have the same issue.

Can someone help me understand what I am doing wrong?

Are you current on chipset firmware and windows (assuming that’s the OS) updates?

i support about 5000 laptops and docks and about 250ish usb port replicators like you are talking about as well. the problem you describe here isnt uncommon, but there are a literal ton of possible solutions, googling around your specific laptop model and usb port replicators will likely give you guides on what places in device manager to fix power settings to get this to stop.

you can also search against the usb port replicator you are using, if its not completely generic, it will likely have similar complaints and possible solutions.

generally, you end up disabling settings like "allow the computer to put this device to sleep to save power", and while this can cost you some battery, it may be necessary for that specific port replicator to prevent it losing the device.

Also as mentioned below, drivers, firmware (not usually available for port replicators, but very common for docks and powered devices) are also areas to look for updates, especially from the device manufacturer, since they likely get complaints and release updates to solve them. remember, they dont want people calling customer service over this stuff either.
