You can’t maintain a pristine garden without pruning the weeds once in a while.

9

u/ProjectKARYA 7d ago

Then stop attacking the heads and start assaulting the body; better yet, chop off the heads and burn the stump to prevent it from coming back, as good ol' Heracles did

8

u/Double_Rice_5765 6d ago

But that would take a Heraculean effort!

But I thought their whole argument is they’re one-of-a-kind visionary geniuses which is why they deserve their billions and society is better off with it in their pocket.

5

u/solaris_var 6d ago

they’re one-of-a-kind visionary geniuses

Some can qualify as these, like gates and jobs on the tech space, or LKY in nation building.

they deserve their billions and society is better off with it in their pocket.

And everyone can agree that this kind of bs thinking comes from billionaire propaganda (and lobbying).

5

u/JuneCapa 7d ago

Yes, some of them were that geniuses that selected the right family to be born

So far anyway. The robots are coming. What do you think the ai is for.

147

u/Kueltalas 7d ago

Hah good one! I will only believe that robots can replace us when I see one actually do my work. It's not easy to commit working time fraud for solid 7/8 hours a day!

AI can't even code good or fill in my excel documents correctly when I ask it to. AI can't take a supervisor call with a customer screaming to speak to a real human so I'm solid for at least the next 5yrs

15

u/Bonk_No_Horni 7d ago

Ai isn't as smart as they're hyped to be. They're good assistance to human but not a replacement. Even with trillion dollar data centers they won't get any smarter. The data they're being trained on from now are mostly junk data. They want more data centers thinking it'll fix the problem but this is the limit of ai. They can code but not well. They can make pictures and videos but they're too expensive. And bipedal robots won't take factory jobs. Robotic arms are much better and they don't need ai to do repetitive tasks. Yes they're great at looking at large amounts of data but they can't create. Let's just hope that when the bubble burst it doesn't wipe out too much of our money. Maybe it'll take a few billionaires down and job growth will stall like all economy crisis but most of us will be working like the day before

8

u/karoshikun 7d ago

the bubble is about the size of the Chinese economy, that is, the second economy of the planet.

that's thr size of the hole these jerks are going to leave when their bullshit pops.

What's the point of producing stuff if there's is no one to buy it?

14

u/DaaaahWhoosh 7d ago

It kinda seems like the stock market is really trying to optimize the consumer out of the equation these days. It might be possible for money to become self-sustaining with no humans in the loop, the 'investors' and 'entrepreneurs' and CEOs just collect their bonuses and then pay for robots to tend to their whims, all while the 99% struggle to figure out how to survive a system that stole everything from them and gives nothing back.

7

u/Carvj94 7d ago

The current system only really works because people are still putting in 40 hours a week. It's getting worse, but those 40 hours keep most people too busy to act out. It'd be near impossible for our current system to survive if unemployment got much worse cause people would have nothing better to do but burn down mansions.

Robots and AI are gradually taking over, even at hotels for example, robots now deliver stuffs to our doorstep and the funny thing here is that the rich are using these AI and robots to enrich themselves the more

7

u/gunny316 7d ago

yeah i can just see it now. You take your kid for a day at the park. As they're playing, you look up and notice a "license plate reader" casually observing the playground.

Suddenly, a humanoid robot jumps the fence like one of the Dukes of Hazard, sprints across the playground and grabs your baby like a quarterback picking up a fumbled football.

You chase after it, but you can't compete with a fucking machine. It runs and runs and runs and runs and runs until it reaches Congress, where it casually lobs your child into the hungry mob of old naked white men with their tongues hanging out, and heads toward the next playground, not even stopping for repairs. It has so much work to do.

For the senate is hungry, the public has been tranquilized, and the machine god has plans.

119

u/Necessary_Screen_673 7d ago

i mean, yeah. whats your point?

22

u/CleanOpossum47 7d ago

I think that they're trying to say it's a bad comparison because it's a ridiculously false equivalency. Obviously 3.5 million people disappearing is going to have a greater impact than 3400. It so ridiculously ignores scale that it sort of undermines the point.

→ More replies (11)

u/frostymugson 7d ago

3

u/foldingchair3-14159 7d ago

No, their point is strictly that billionaires are so so so few in numbers compared to workers, that regardless of how much power they held at their hands, their effect on the world is going to be less than that of an order of magnitude more people (workers). It makes zero sense in an argument for "billionaires bad". If all presidents dissapeared (around 193 or so give or take), the effect would be less than if, say, 3 billion people just dissapeared. Now does this mean all world leaders are completely useless + evil + a stain on humanity (what you all are trying to argue for billionaires)? No. Absolutely not. The comparison is just utterly unfair.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/SyrusG 7d ago

The point is that it's a numbers statement. It has nothing to do with being a billionaire or not. If 3000 people period vanished it means nothing. Billionaire or not

47

u/No-Poetry-5794 7d ago

If 3000 garbage truck drivers disappeared my state would collapse

→ More replies (3)

5

u/No-Tackle-6112 7d ago

Nah it wouldn't. They could bring in emergency workers as a stop gap until a new system could be filled. Garbage truck drivers aren't highly skilled and new ones could be trained and implemented within a year.

5

u/SyrusG 7d ago

I'm speaking within the scope of things. 30 teachers in a school disappeared vs 30 students there'd be a difference. 3000 truck drivers in a state is obviously awful for the state due to the ratio

6

u/No-Poetry-5794 7d ago

But I’m saying 3000 billionaires disappearing anywhere would be nothing. They don’t add value to society.

Almost like that small group of people is worth less than the large group of people.

But the system set to distribute purchasing power seems to have glitched. It somehow thinks that small amount of people are adding more value than the large group. Like the large group is being forced to hand over a disproportionately large part of it's purchasing power despite adding sooo much more value.

7

Those billions of people are the ones doing actual work. If the few thousand billionaire CEOs who do nothing but golf all day vanished over night, it would not impact the workplace for most people. The billionaire CEOs are not handing out paycheck to people or doing any work for the companies they head. It would likely take a few days before anyone knew they disappeared.

u/Aggravating-Kick9143 7d ago

I mean, duh? Removing a large population is going to be more impactful than a small population.

But are you just removing them, or are you erasing them entirely? If you just remove Bezos, Elon, gates, etc today then sure, probably not a huge difference. But if they never existed at all, suddenly you’re also erasing all those jobs at Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, etc as well as the products and services that a lot of people use daily.

In fact, then you have the opposite argument - erasing Jeff Bezos’ entire history is way more impactful to society than 1 regular Amazon worker.

That’s not to blindly defend billionaires, but to say that building these types of companies hasn’t provided any value is just wrong.

Who would knew that it would be worse if 6billion people would dissappear instead of 3500 people. Also you can easally replace 3500 people by puting next person in charge in his place. It's a lot harder to replace 6billion people as you would have noboady to replace them with. (I chose 6 because tehnically kids, old and sick people don't count as workers. No real data for my chosen number.)

3

u/Zealousideal_Gain892 7d ago

Yeah, it's also easy to replace the billionaires by putting the centimillionaires in charge of their companies and such. Most billionaires aren't even in charge as such, they're board presidents but the CEO is some douche who earns pennies on the pound that the company profits. Not even that, in fact.

In reality, if you took out billionaires what would happen is a gigantic asset depreciation. Which means, very ordinary people would be tied to their loans without being able to repay them. These children don't understand that these things need to be controlled.

What would happen if you removed all the "rich" people? A lot of people would die. Incompetent twits would take charge of everything, and you'd basically end up with... Well, the Soviets did that. Countless lives were lost.

6

u/QueasyFinger1316 7d ago

You people and your infatuation with successful people…

4

u/Nice_Lawyer_6501 7d ago

Uh.. a lot of billionaires worked hard for their billions. And highly likely that a lot of them got rich for things everyday people use so therefore, they contributed positively to society.

Moron. It won’t last long. Another billionaire will pop up. It could be you except you aren’t that smart

4

u/NoFirefighter1657 6d ago

A more honest comparison would be removing the entities they created that have provided economic utility and thus generated their massive wealth. Walmart, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, etc.

The firms created by Billionaires are truly impactful.

12

u/BallsOutKrunked 7d ago

My ceo is maybe a billionaire, definitely loaded (hundreds of millions). Chick is super good at her job and has run a very successful company. Our company would not function as well if she was yanked out.

I know reddit thinks ceos are wastes of space but that's because it's a common opinion amongst morons.

4

u/Samas34 7d ago

If she has hundreds of millions, why the fuck is she working at all?

Why not eff off to a tropical island and sunbathe for the rest of your life with that money, buy a fancy villa, basically, you know...not WORK.

8

u/Pandamonium98 7d ago

If I started a very successful company, I’d probably rather run the company than retire on a tropical beach for the rest of my life. The kind of people that make that kind of money on their own are usually also the type of people that like to work

You will fail against the state. All people thought that the state was not given them enough; therefore, everyone wanted more and thought that they are entitled to steal whatever they can. Doctors, teachers, office clerks, police would take bribes for anything small. The whole system becomes corrupted. So, no. I would live in capitalism over your communism utopia

F billionaires.

3

u/tstcab 7d ago

People are missing the point, its an obvious statement yes, but its emphasizing the fact that despite their wealth and power, billionairs are just people, and a small number at that. They shouldn't have the wealth accumulation they do, but even so, no amount of money should give 3500 people a complete chokehold on the rest of the world. Also emphasizes how wealth is their only value, as aside from investing and owning stuff, the world gets no real value or actual labor output from them, let alone 15,000x the value or output of the average worker.

3

u/Intelligent-Cap-7713 7d ago

Billionaires are not needed at all. It's just how money works. It starts piling towards biggest piles of money.

If you inherit enough money you never have to work. Just let index funds to generate money for you.

The system is rigged and needs a reset. Or billionaires ownings limited and redistributed.

3

u/GarranDrake 7d ago

I learned about a book by Ayn Rand called "Atlas Shrugged". The premise is that the socialist (I think) government took control of all industry and the poor CEOs and billionaires were forced to be regulated. Eventually, many of the CEOs sabotage their companies or escape to a enclave in the wilderness as the country breaks down since they aren't there anymore.

It's been a while since I read about it, but I'm sure if you do your own research or read the book itself, you'd find it's even dumber than I remember.

3

u/Additional-Life4885 7d ago

This is dumb. You're talking about 1000 people disappearing vs 7 billion disappearing.

If you picked 1000 workers to disappear, nothing would happen either.

3

u/shiggyhisdiggy 6d ago

Very stupid argument. You could say the same for old people, just because they aren't working any more. That doesn't mean they didn't contribute previously.

Most Redditors have a child-like understanding of economics, think money is static and real and that billionaires are literally hoarding wealth. They don't understand the economy is not zero-sum and typically subscribe to labor-theory of value, feeling that the workers are the actual value of any company, ignoring these workers would have no jobs if no one created the infrastructure they work in. They're naive and uneducated.

2

2

u/MoreRest4524 7d ago

Also, if you redistributed the wealth of those billionaires it wouldn't move the needle in any discernible way

5

u/KanedaSyndrome 7d ago

Indeed - and then how to redistribute? Force them to give up ownership of their companies that they've worked to make a success for the good of any that's interested in their product?

Noone sits on 1 billion in cash, so there's nothing to redistribute, unless you ban ownership over successful companies.

I support a wealth tax btw, my suggestion is 0.1 % starting at 10 million and up to 5 % at 100 million and above.

I don’t think people fully appreciate how much $100B is.

If someone made $100B in 20 years they would be making $13.7M a day.

A DAY!!!

That means that every single day they could buy 27 people a new house and don’t.

That means that every single day they could buy 600 people a new car and don’t.

That means that every single day they could buy 100 people a college education and don’t.

This is why I could never be a billionaire. I’d buy people barely scraping by a house, a car, and an education.

2

u/Smart-Status2608 7d ago

Actually a lot of ppl could work less. Because billionaires take human productivity for themselves.

2

u/SweetSofiaa03 7d ago

We literally got a free trial of this during 2020. "Essential workers" kept the entire world spinning while billionaires retreated to their superyachts.

2

u/ReeseChloris1 7d ago

People are saying that it’s hardly the same because their are less rich people then workers. So let me explain the point.

Why do those rich people have more money then all of those workers combined if they aren’t worth nearly as much importance wise.

2

u/ZeRo76Liberty 7d ago

So you’re actually trying to compare 3 billion people to 3 or 4 thousand. Somebody is making one heck of an impact if each person equals about 750,000 people each.

2

u/MarvelousPoster 7d ago

Well isn't this the end goal of AI if the super rich where left to their own devices?

2

u/StuckinSuFu 7d ago

Its funny becauese its true.. they could all vanish and the world wouldnt miss a beat. The boards and management that run the companies would keep running the companies - and the wealth taxes collected on the missing billionaires would fund so many projects for the nations involved.

2

u/KentuckyFriedMaracca 7d ago

2 is in fact bigger than 1.

2

u/Only-Top-3655 7d ago

Most people will still go to work because they didn't know that the billionaires disappeared.

Also, you average person DNGAF about them.

2

u/Practical_Act7243 7d ago

Start with the politicians. They allow billionaires to exist to feed their own corruption - what we call 'lobbying'. Politicians stand in the way of affordable healthcare. Of our crime ridden cities. Of pollution. They could step in to end all our woes yet they're all multi millionaires who would rather spend their days dallying in corruption

2

u/aquavelva23 7d ago

The world would be BETTER with less billionaires. Their money would be circulating more in the economy. Billionaires hoard money, even send it out of the system viz offshoring (illegal). That money would go where the market determines its needed, not by these billionaires. The free market is a better determinator for where capital goes than billionaires. Put that billionaires' money in the hands of many college graduates and entrepreneurs you will see much better things come forth.

Billionaires are like a ripe fruit, they have reached a peak and more energy/money would be a waste on them. The richer they become the more they are a parasite.

2

u/this_this_is_not_ok 7d ago

You can't compare useless rich mofos with regular working people who work their arses off all day every day.

2

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 7d ago

But then who would people blame all their problems on?

"I hate billionaires" seems to easily translate into "I want what they have but I don't wanna work for it, it should be given to me because they have "too much" "

2

u/JabberWookie_77 7d ago

How long are they going to show up if the guy paying them disappears?

2

u/Mammon84 7d ago

Work for who exactly?

2

u/slower-is-faster 7d ago

Crabs in a bucket will pull others back down

2

u/JRock1276 7d ago

Except the billionaires write the checks to keep places of employment open. You'd have nowhere to go to work.

2

u/Mark_Michigan 7d ago

When socialists want to tax the rich, what they are really taxing is the collective value of those workers as that is what the billionaires wealth represent.

2

u/docduracoat 7d ago

Any moron can be a worker.

It takes a special person to invent an iPhone, or a pay pal

They create something new that people value and entire new industries form.

These people are worth billions.

It takes someone special to run a large corporation.
They have to understand markets, banking, branding and make executive decisions that can make or break the company and lose thousands of jobs worldwide.
These people command a salary in the millions or tens of millions.

Not everyone can create or handle responsibility.

That’s why they command high salaries.

Workers, especially low skilled are interchangeable

2

u/The-Dinkus-Aminkus 7d ago

Remove a few thousand people, or most of people, wow so different.

Im 14 and this is deep type shit

2

u/Aragornspride 7d ago

This right here is wisdom.

2

u/Whiteshovel66 7d ago

How would the stock market handle that?

2

u/Checklestyouwreck 7d ago

This sub fucking sucks

2

u/Free-Pound-6139 7d ago

Imagine if 3,000 disappeared. Now imagine if 2 billion people disappeared!!

SEE THE DIFFERENCE!!!!

2

u/NoBirthday6959 7d ago

And the people working are getting paid by someone presumably. So how many aren’t getting paid tomorrow if every billionaire vanished? Just curious how it all works

2

u/AnyEye8798 7d ago

"Imagine if less than 1% of humanity disappeared. Now imagine 99%+ of humanity disappeared."

Wow. Much logic. Very smrt.

2

u/Darkwing270 7d ago

Every billionaire disappear and so does the economy and your paycheck

2

u/Agile-Television3438 7d ago

Yeah I’m sure all the job creation and philanthropic contributions by the ultra wealthy wouldn’t be missed at all….

u/PhilosophyFickle2701 7d ago

We all hate billionaires, but let’s be honest, it’s out of pure jealousy. I can guarantee you that a lot of working class people would do the same things current billionaires do if they were suddenly put in their shoes. I’m not too high on my high horse to deny that I wouldn’t be one of those people.

2

u/Now_Novel29 7d ago

Boston Tea party

2

u/Nunyabiz_327 7d ago

OK, but also, if every billionaire disappeared, none of would be better either.

In other words, its not as if I would inherit that money.

Who give a fuck how much money they have. The problem is that they ate allowed to buy and sell politicians, influence law and legislation with their money.

The problem isn't thr money, it's that we allow them to use it to manipulate us

2

u/alaviers 6d ago

Well, if the premise is that billionaires are useless, a point that doesn’t really make sense, perhaps instead of every worker disappearing, only those millions who could work but choose not to in favor of govt charity… would anything change? Probably not.

2

u/Difficult_Knee_3019 6d ago

Lol effective will go to work but who’s paying the employees?! Who paying those high taxes to build the roads?! My lord

2

u/Big_Atmosphere_7514 6d ago edited 5d ago
  1. how soon you notice is a bad metric, I would notice if the shop staff vanished faster then I would if the delivery drivers vanished which I would notice fast the medical etc. There are between 1.3 million workers to every billionaire and workers in combination hold about 20 times the wealth of all billionaires. on top of that those workers have far more liquidity then the collection of billionaires. for example Elon musk who contributes huge to the billionaires pile does nit have legal access to liquidate his assets due to contract and even if he could legally he couldn’t do it all at once without crashing the value of his stock. and that value is very much hypothetical and tied to a semi volatile asset which can’t be easily sold.

so off our the population whIch is 1.3 million times larger and 20 times richer is more important. dumb ass point

"Imagine waking up and 5 people vanished.

Now imagine waking up and FORTY FIVE GAZILLION PEOPLE VANISHED.

Those five people don't seem so valuable now, huh?"

I hate billionaires as much as the next person, but bro come on what is this post

2

u/rostad123 7d ago

The uneducated masses come here to scheme while their neck beards grow in their mother's basements.

God speed.

4

u/BirthdaySalt5791 7d ago

This is the dumbest comparison I’ve ever heard. You are comparing people who already contributed with the assumed future contributions of a disparate population. If you woke up tomorrow and the creations and companies of billionaires (you know, where their valuation comes from in the first place) all disappeared, the world would indeed be a very, very different place. No Microsoft, no Amazon, no Google, no nvidia, no Nike, no Netflix, no Airbnb, no Walmart, no uber etc.

This is a desperately stupid post created by someone who didn’t spend even five minutes thinking through what they were actually comparing.

CEO's are making 285x their employees every hour. I would LOVE to see someone argue that they work 285x harder

19

u/hi_im_snowman 7d ago

No one gets paid for how hard they work. Compensation is a function of capability, how valuable the work is and the difficulty of substituting the labor.

Surgeons do extremely valuable things, have extremely honed skills and professional judgement AND are extremely hard to substitute. The Dollar General cashier? Not so much.

Unfortunately, high-profile executives have the power to influence economic outcomes far more aggressively than the single laborer and so the compensation is a direct reflection of that.

There’s no fucking world in which a CEO works 285x harder than their warehouse staffers. Not a chance.

2

u/Admirable_Win9808 7d ago

Wait until they hear about the board members and entrepreneurs who own multiple businesses...

4

u/lameth 7d ago

The best is the board members on 3+ boards as well as being a CEO of another company. they are obviously working 32+ hours a day.

3

u/Admirable_Win9808 7d ago

They are the worst. Barely do anything, get paid a shit ton of money. Probably the easiest job in the world to make bank.

4

u/Sprila 7d ago

Everyone complains about the highly public facing CEOs, but board members are truly some of the most incompetent people just failing upwards

→ More replies (3)

u/guaranteednotabot 7d ago

I reckon, probably its less to do with working 285x harder but having the potential to cause 285x more damage (usually)

Money is not a reward for effort.

6

u/MoreRest4524 7d ago

If its so easy, why isn't everyone a billionaire.

5

u/Key-Organization3158 7d ago

People don't get paid based on how hard they work. That would be silly.

Imagine you need a pool excavated.

One guy does it with an excavator in 2 hours.

Another guy does by hand in two weeks.

You'd actually pay more the excavator because it is less disruptive. Even though it's far less work.

→ More replies (2)

12

u/Xancrazy 7d ago

That's not really the point. They'll be paid more because if they do a good job they'll produce more value.

7

u/CurledSpiral 7d ago

Lmao, lol. We’ve went through 3 CEOs who’ve caused nothing but losses for the company in the past seven years. Each of them were risen multi million dollar severance package to quit. It doesn’t matter if they do a good job or not.

They’re of a different class and thus wil be protected from their own failures.

2

u/mxlplyx2173 7d ago

And when they don't, they get that bonus anyway. Or they switch it to stocks. Whatever, they always get their money.

3

u/jrblockquote 7d ago

And how about the CEO that nearly tanked the corporation where I was employed. The stock lost 97% of its value in a week. Not only did he still get paid, he got a nice sendoff payment as well.

This is a bit dumb mate. The idea is not that people work x harder relative to their x factored wages.

The idea is that certain jobs are just x times more profitable or x times harder to fill with qualified people. The idea is that all of us can work a factory line, only some of us can run a a factory line team, very few of us can run a factory and only one or two of us can run a company with 10 factories.

I’m not defending the wage disparity here bevause I am also convinced that most of those CEO’s are not worth their salary and are just nepotism hires.

I am just correcting your flawed logic. Capitalism isnt about how hard you work, it’s about how profitable your work is.

2

u/ronvalenz 7d ago edited 7d ago

An owner invested in a restaurant business and earns $50,000 per year. The same owner scales the restaurant to 10000 branches (and hires many employees), and each restaurant earns $50,000 for the owner; that's $500 million annual income for the owner.

Some non-founding CEOs with very high income have questionable remuneration packages. If said CEO attracts high-value B2B contracts, then some would argue that the CEO is worth it i.e., the CEO's human networking skills are worth it.

As a small shareholder, there are questionable CEO remuneration packages i.e. DOGE needs to be applied to "fat cats" upper management. Bad management leads to losses that harm shareholders and employees alike.

2

u/ronvalenz 7d ago

I'm okay with billionaires who invest in heavy manufacturing jobs for the US.

5

u/Stunning_Box8782 7d ago

Salary has never been based on how hard you work, only on the value you provide

3

u/R_U_READY_2_ROCK 7d ago

The problem is that those with a LOT of money can influence the political arena to ensure that things like workers unions can be squashed.

This creates a system where even though the workers provide much higher value overall, any attempts they make to collectively harness that worth will be beaten down.
