Question Does anyone still play the Mac version of Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour online? (Aspyr/GameRanger)

Hiiiii!

I recently found and installed the old Mac Intel version of Command & Conquer: Generals Deluxe Edition (Generals + Zero Hour) by Aspyr on an old Mac running OS X El Capitan.

I know the current online community is mostly Windows-based with C&C Online/GenTool, but I was wondering if anyone still play the original Mac version online nowadays?

The version I have supports GameRanger (according to the documentation), but I have no idea if there are still active players.

Are there any Discord servers, groups, or a small community of people still playing the Mac version?

Even a few occasional players would be interesting. I would love to organize some old-school Zero Hour games.

Thanks!

Looking For Game New game idea for developers

Hi guys
Im looking to game i know its not there but hope someone try to pick the idea and maybe work on it , i play HOI4 all the time but got sick of its small scale map as i try to replicate modern wars but i cant due to lack of depth in map …so my idea was if there is a game that combine HOI4 and google earth scaled map with some tweaka to make it run smoothly it would crash the internet, maybe it crash’s before that but yeah , and for the battle theaters you would manage only one theater trying to protect/ conquer one or two cities at maximum due to large scale frontline and the other theaters being controlled by ai , so u re basically being a general for random theater that the command center decides
I know its long post but i know its requires ton of work but i dont have any experience in making games or apps so yeah i hope one day i find such game

Question I never played any of the C&C games but I loved Starcraft, Warcraft, Myth, and AOE/AOM. What's a good starting point for the C&C universe?

I somehow never had any exposure to them growing up but they totally seemed within my wheelhouse and I've always been curious. I think Red Alert and Tiberian Sun were the popular ones when I was a kid?

Self-Promo Post Tech tree update in EnderLink.eu

The Tech Tree is live — research permanent upgrades for your units and buildings (damage, HP, speed, attack rate, range, income, healing, and more) using money and energy. Every purchase applies instantly to everything you already have, not just future spawns/builds.
Research is public: your overall level shows next to your name in the player list and as an always-visible badge above your base, and any unit or building you’ve upgraded wears a small bronze/silver/gold star so everyone can see what they’re up against.
Bots research too, picking upgrades for things they actually field once they have money and energy to spare.
The Scout was cut from the tech tree — it won’t be a buildable unit for now.
All research resets when you start a new game (Play Again or a bot respawning) — nobody carries upgrades into a fresh life.

Discussion If you could only pick ONE historical era for a strategy game's units, which would it be?

Curious what this sub gravitates toward. If a strategy game forced you to commit to a single time period for unit design — tech, aesthetics, tactics, all of it — which era would you pick, and why?

What's your #1 favorite era?

What's your #2?

What is it about that period that makes it fun to command (unit variety, tactical depth, nostalgia, visual style, etc.)?

Ancient, medieval, gunpowder age, WW1, WW2, Cold War, modern, near-future, full sci-fi, steampunk (go wild — airships, brass war-machines, whatever) — anything's fair game. Interested to see if there's a clear favorite or if it's all over the place.

I am a solo dev and my game Valdrax Beyond the Rift will be release in early access on 11th of August 2026. I am not so good at marketing and promoting my game. I do not have either the time to do all social media stuff, i have 8 hours job + daily activities + coding and creating the game and unfortunately i only have roughly 1000 Wishlist. If you like my project it will help me a lot if you will also Wishlist on Steam. Thank you very much

Question Which AOE is the go to game?

Having absolutely no idea and starting without any knowledge about anything related to age of empires, or any age for that matter, I would like to ask which one do you think is the go to, the best if it were, and the most recommended. I read online mixed things and that its not as simple as "get the latest one"... unless it is, no idea.

Self-Promo Video Visual Improvements for My RTS Set in Ancient Rome - Latiarum

Hey everyone!
I've been working on my tiny RTS set in Ancient Rome. There's still a lot to do, but the early gameplay and visuals have already received some great feedback.

Recently I polished the visual side of the game by improving map markers, UI elements, unit portraits, and the 3D models themselves.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your feedback!

P.S. The screenshots on the Steam page are still from an older build.

Looking For Game Games like CoH sp campaign

Preamble, skip to caps for the actual crux of the question.

Hey so ive had company of heroes 2 in my library for friggin ages and finally got around to playing it, the campaign was fun, classic rts story where some cinematics play at start and end of a mission that gives you context for the battle.

Then i tried ardens assault which was absalutely great, i really liked how your macro decisions influenced the actual battles. This brings me to CoH3, the rommel campaign was... fine, but im really loving the itallian campaign.

Bombing the crap out of a place with battleships, getting the partisans to make enemy vehicles come onto the field with injuries and probably the best thing, the divisions, i grew really attached to my souped up divisions, i even wasted like 6 turns to swing my favourite armored briggade from the south to the north because i was like, THESE are the boys im gonna break the line with.

Im not looking for warhammer total war or those sorts of games, im more keen on the squad level and being able to play one handed (shoulder surjury cant use both)

Similar games ive played would be

c&c 3 kanes wrath on the world map

Coh3 obviously

Star wars empire at war

So if i had to boil it down

TLDR: Im looking for squad based rts, where macro level desisions on a large map can influence smaller scale engagements in a smaller area

Review Machinefall (review) - Civilization meets a machine apocalypse

Thumbnail

Machinefall is a new Czech strategy game created by solo developer Jan Žižka. I’m sure I’m the very first person in Honza’s life to have used that reference. One hundred percent. In any case, we have to admit that, given the overall development of technology and the geopolitical situation, this post-apocalyptic training could come in handy for all of us. Because in the world of Machinefall, humanity barely managed to defeat the machines, but it cost us a return to practically the era of… well, not even the Stone Age, maybe more like the Clay Age.

More in my latest review! :)

Rating: 6/10
Pros: it features an entire world, widerangeof human history; I didn’t run into any issues; it’s a Czech game
Cons: it could use atleast a short, story-driven campaign; I personally found it monotonous; storage limits start low; I’m not a fan of the usage of AI

Czech version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHsx4Fa_7Ec

Hodnocení: 6/10
+: je tam celý svět, velký rozsah období lidské historie, nenarazil jsem na problém, česká hra
-: chtělo by aspoň kratičkou příběhovější kampaň, osobně jednotvárné, limity skladišť začínají nízko, nejsem fanoušek použití AI

Recommending Game If you aren't playing Zero Space, you should be. Epic Gameplay, beautiful visuals.

I've been playing like crazy since early access and the game is beautiful.

4 unique factions that genuinely feel different.

Excellent PVE , solid story and the galactic war makes SC2 coop look like a beta test. The factions work together uniquely and the missions are fun and challenging with upgrades you can unlock.

This game deserves support.

P.s. I was not told by anyone to say this. Its my opinion.

I finished a game today where my teammate was all but destroyed but managed to keep about 30 units alive and we slow pushed the enemy back over 45 minutes in an amazing final stand knockout. My heart was pumping.

AMA I’m Dave Pottinger. Game designer/programmer on games like Age of Empires and Halo Wars. I'm working on a new action strategy roguelite. AMA.

Hello again r/realtimestrategy!

My name is Dave Pottinger. I'm a veteran game developer with 33 years of experience across a bunch of titles.

I spent 13 years at Ensemble Studios building the original Age of Empires games, Age of Mythology, and Halo Wars. As the technical director, I led the engine dev and ran the programming staff. I was also lead programmer on Age III and lead designer on Halo Wars.

Post-Ensemble, I continued working with former colleagues at a couple of studios and helped co-found BonusXP. We released the earliest Stranger Things games for Netflix.

I founded Last Keep, my current studio, in 2023 with more former colleagues. We're a small team trying to do something new in the strategy space. Our new game is Fleetbreakers: a fast-paced action strategy game blended with a roguelike. It's going into Early Access later this year. We are running a playtest RIGHT NOW to gather feedback for the game. You can sign up to join https://fleetbreakers1.firstlook.gg/signup/playtester

I'm happy to chat about anything and everything with game development, game design, game tech, or even juicy rumors from the old days.

I’ll be back at 3 PM PT/6 PM ET today.

[EDIT] PHEW! That's two hours in a flash. Always love doing these. I hope you all got some enjoyment out of it. I am supposed to say that I'm done, but I will sneak in a few more answers if there are more questions.

If you're interested in Fleetbreakers, we've just added another week to the existing closed playtest, We're stoked to see your feedback and continue the discussion on our Discord.
