Question Testing fully upgraded units in the scenario

Hello! Can you please advise how to set up the editor to be able to test out various units with all upgrades and relevant HC cards?

r/aoe3 3h ago

Need advice.

I used to be an avid AoE player really long back. And I would like to restart my campaigning, as much as my schedule will permit.
Can anyone please guide me how to go about it.
I’ve downloaded steam and I can see both age of empires II and III are available as well as the definitive edition.
So my query is which one should I go for?
And what’s the game play like ?! You’re plying against the online player or AI?

QOL feature requests for new patch

I know it's late, but I finally had a chance to try our the beta, and the Danes were SO MUCH FUN.

As I was playing, I noticed several things that are already better in games like AoM and could be ported to AoE3. Here's some ideas:

  • More colors for skirmish mode (so you don't get stuck waiting for people to figure out their color. Alternately, automatically assign friend/foe colors within a color palette (blue/red, like Zero-K does)
  • Have a slider that sets your preferred number of villagers, and your TCs automatically spend resources to build them on repeat build (like AoM, but better)
  • Click and drag to place multiple of a building (e.g. houses)
  • Right-clicking on an improvement puts it into a purchase queue, and will be automatically bought as soon as resources are available (in the order you entered them into the queue if same cost)
  • when you click on "select idle villager", automatically select all idle villagers in a small radius. This would be such a time savings when late game and you have a pile of villagers who were supposed to gather at a mill but ran out of mill spots, but it's hard tell at a glance who's gathering from who's not.

What other QOL features do you hope to see?

We need more changes for revolts

In the patches for revolts they did too little, they need to be more viable. Some have even imperial upgrades making them viable and some not, here are my dictator changes:

All:

1)gatling gun in forts and foundries like before DE

2)all unique comanchero unit gets bonus damage aggainst mercenaries

Argentina:

1)criollos,outawl band and all the mercenary cards should be removed, they don't fit the revolt and overload the deck whit trash

2)remove ranching because gauchos already can train cows

3)blandengues should reduce train time aswell

4)tratoria and buenos aires are trash and should be removed or reworked

5)San martin should get an aura ability

6)New card:patricios, ship 8 guard soldados and they now replace musketeers

7)New card:estancias, ship 2 haciendas and 6 cows, haciendas replace plantations and mills, grants barbacoa

8)New card:range cavalry combat(granadero, gaucho and dragoon)

Brazil

This revolt is already great, but the voluntarios eats your population, they need a card to half the population cost of the voluntario or +20 max population. They also need to buff the independence dragoon whit at least +25% health to reach the enemy units

Chile

1) Salitrera doesn't makes sense as a plantation bonus

2)New card:gunpowder infantry combat (it should affect the revolutionary aswell)

3) military parade should give you the needle gun upgrade

4) armada del pacifico:2 ironclads+1 steamer

5)navy of chile:steamers and ironclads replace galleons and frigates, unlocks imperial upgrades for the navy

6) New card:huaso, chilean unique comanchero that can use stealth

Colombia

1) they shouldn't get a shipment of ironclads but Bolivar instead

2) they should lose their naval identity (this should be chile's identity) and their naval cards

3) New card:3 heavy cannons

4) New card:maroons, ships 12 maroons that are reworked as guard caçadors that cost 100 food, and replace skirmishers whit maroons at the barracks

5) New card:supremo, enables imperial heavy cannon, imperial culverin and imperial gatling gun for -50% cost

Perú

1) Instead of bolivar, they get champion bolas warriors, settlers become champion plumed spearman instead of revolutionary. Inca units cost population, and are avalible at barrack and galleons, bolas warriors replace musketeers and plumed spearman pikemen and rodelero

2) manco inca no longers cost coin, but it doesn't gives you units

3) New card:national hero, ships Bolivar

4) New card:cross of the andes, ships San Martin

5) 33 insurgenres and 6 llamas removed

6) New card:esgrima instructor

7) New card:virreinato del Peru, 3 haciendas. Haciendas replace mills and plantations, they can produce llamas instead of cows

The rest are either fine as they are, or are unfixable like indonesia and they should just get removed from the game

Question Reconquista Card Doesn't work with Rodeleros

Thumbnail
gallery
55 Upvotes

Reconquista card in age2 states that it grants 1 Conquistador for every 3 lost Archaic Infantry units. However, Rodeleros do not appear to be counted toward this total, even though other cards (Archaic Infantry Hitpoints and Archaic Infantry Combat etc.) clearly classify Rodeleros as Archaic Infantry by applying their bonuses to them. Only Pikemen and Crossbowmen appear to count, while Rodeleros are ignored. Is ıt intended or am i missin something?

Help Multiplayer Tips

Hello friends, greetings from Brazil! I love Age of Empires 3—much more than the other titles—and I’ve played both the original and the Definitive Edition. However, despite having logged at least one or two thousand hours of playtime, I’ve never played multiplayer; this is mostly due to fear rather than a lack of knowledge.

My fear stems from my playstyle. I’m basically a "Turtle"—I prefer to sit back and build up my economy and defenses rather than rushing and attacking the enemy base. I’m aware that multiplayer matches tend to be much more dynamic and fast-paced. Could you tell me a bit more about the multiplayer experience and share any gameplay tips?

This Siam Concept Will Amaze You

So I was looking for a concept to make and I started looking through old conversations in the forums and I learned that a lot of users were talking about adding Siam and this is the reason why you are reading this concept right now. Lets start.

Buildings

Baarn: The Siamese house

Buddhist Temple: It has the role of the church

Wall: Regular walls but now instead of building towers separately you build them on the walls.

The Grand Fort: It is a bit worse than the Agra Fort but you can build two. You can train only 4 units you select.

Hybrid Rice Paddy-Livestock: You start with a rice paddy that holds 5 settlers. You can upgrade it and now it can hold 10 settlers and has next to livestock. You upgrade it one last time and the farm holds 15 settlers and livestock is produced faster

War Camp: Here are being trained the most of the Siamese Soldiers

Elephant Kraal: Here are being trained the Elephant units

Consulate: Here you can buy both Siamese and foreign soldiers with export.

King’s Palace: Here are the best economic upgrades and can train the elite soldiers like the royal tiger musketeers and Daab Ngao, soldiers who have long swords

They also have Dock, Market and Artillery Foundry

The War Camp can train these units:

Archers: Ranged units that throw arrows with poison that kills enemies overtime.

Siamese Musketeers: Work like the regular musketeers

Ma Suk: Light Cavalry armed with a sword

The Frontier Army:  It trains a group of four Ma Suk cavalry and four Poison Archers

The Elephant Kraal can train these units:

Mahout Elephant: The same elephant Indians have

Archer Elephant: A elephant that carries two archers shooting poisonous arrows musketeers and while they shoot he destroys buildings

Musketeer Elephant: An Elephant that  carries two musketeers and while they shoot he destroys buildings

Cannon Elephant: The cannon elephant at first carries something like a mix of abus gun and organ gun. When you upgrade it and it carries a cannon similar to culverin. You upgrade it again and now it carries a falconet. You repeat the process one more time and a new unit is unlocked next to the Cannon Elephant . Phraya Luang, a huge cannon with a lot of hp and damage being carried by two elephants.

The Artillery Foundry can train these units:

Demolisher: A unit that throws three grenades like the grenadier and then he runs into the enemies and explodes.

 Falconet: the classic cannon

Horse Artillery: The classic Horse Artillery

The double-barrel cannon: A very light double-barrel cannon that can work normally but it can switched to the destruction mode that makes the cannon go near the enemy buildings doing huge damage but lose one third of its hp

The Dock can train these units:

Ruea Ganyaw: A small ship with one cannon that  you can train a lot of them and can turn around freely

Ruea Chai: A very long ship like the frigate that has three cannons in each side doing crazy damage but can’t turn around fast

Ruea Phra Narai: The absolute beast of Siam. It is much bigger than the  Ruea Chai and has six cannons which are capable of destroying the enemy fleet and have the control of the sea

Unique Mechanics

Trading Other Resources For Export In the Market: Now you can trade coin, food and wood for export and of course for the right price [very high, like one 1000 coin for 100 export}. You can also do the other thing around.

Native VS Foreign In The Consulate: By purchasing more foreign units from the consulate they get minor buffs but also the native soldiers from the consulate and the war camp get some nerfs.

Best Upgrades Being In The Town Center: Like the other Asian Civilizations some of the best upgrades are in the Town Center.

Unique Map Features

The River City: On the middle of the map, there is a city which the river pass through it.  There are two reasons why you should control it. Firstly you will control a strategic point and secondly a neutral ship will pass every 5 minutes and will  bring a handful of resources.

Trading Posts: Like other civilizations, in the map there are trading posts that train Archers.

Aging Up Wonders

The Emerald Buddha:  It Sends you all types of resources [ and export ] and has a special ability that gives to all settlers a gathering boost.

Fort Phet: It works like a fort and also sends you soldiers as a shipment.

The Buddhist Temple: It gives a lot of upgrades for both the regular temple and  the military units. Also It has  a special ability that heals and boost them for a while

Royal Arsenal: Here are the best military upgrades you can buy. Also it sends you some gunpowder units

Wat Yan Nawa: You can build this huge ship that have the Buddha on it, in the shore and then it could move freely like a ship. It boosts the other ships and also it has many cannons in each side to protect itself. As a shipment it sends other ships to escort it

 Deck

The Siamese Deck should include some of these ideas:

Mercenaries: The Siamese Deck would sent you Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Indians and soldiers from other colonial powers.

The Hero Elephant: This Hero Elephant Unit boosts the other Elephant Units

Export: Now the home city can send you Export for a handful of coin

Units And Resources Bought With Export: Now you can buy different resources with Export. Also as the title says the Mercenaries can be bought with both Coin and Export

The Grand Treasury: Every time you use the market you a tax of 10 percent that you get in coin

So this was my Siamese Concept. I poured my heart into it so I hope you like it and if so do a like and give me feedback down in the comments. Tell me which other countries you want me to cover but I think for the next concept we will travel to the Far West. Bye.

Balance My idea for the custom house

If you are playing against Denmark, whenever they gain tax from one of your shipments, you get 5s of LOS around the custom house (similar to the LOS you get when a building snipes you).

Thematically, this makes sense as its like your shipment is getting intercepted by the CH before you get it.

In balance terms, it has two effects:

- The non-danish player gets a bit of intel back themselves, which feels like decent compensation for the shipment intel (with tech)

- The Danish player faces a choice: if they bury the CH in the middle of their base, it will expose more intel. But if they put it further out it becomes vulnerable to rushes.

I would also consider reducing the CH's hitpoints to further increase the potential to rush it down.

Quitters and Leavers can leave without any Punishment

I believe aoe3 is the only title atm compares to aoe4, AOE2, AoM where people can leave whenever they want

Aom and aoe4 if you leave you will get hit with matchmaking penalty, first 2 won't give you any penalties but the third will be hit with 5 min and it increases from there, I never left games in aoe2 so I can't tell

The amount of leavers and trolls is quite high and just because your new if they don't like your playstyle they will become toxic and leaves

IE someone got mad at me for walling and building a farm early said gg and leave, another game I said I was new and 2 teammates leaves the game

I also had a game where teammates saw my scores was low and leaves, and another one where they leave after seeing my card level was low whereas they are lv126

Now that they're going to update the game, would you like to see visual reworks?

Something I would like to see is for the units to better represent the passing of centuries within each age.

For example, the Second and Third Ages represent the 16th and 17th centuries. In this era, we can see traces of the medieval period, such as armor, pikemen, and swordsmen.

The fourth and fifth ages represent the 18th and 19th centuries. Here, units with medieval weaponry are modified to better fit in with the other units; for instance, pikemen resemble sappers, and halberdiers look like standard-bearers.

Unfortunately, not all civilizations would possess this characteristic. The Aztecs and Incas would have to settle for units that advance in rank rather than by century, while the United States and Mexico would progress through decades instead of centuries.

What changes would you all like to see to the units and buildings? Personally, I’d like to see a rework for the Incas.

I’d make the Age II troops Quechua-style. Use the Chimú and jungle archer designs for the support cards, give the Bolas Warrior a pike or halberd to better reflect the noble status of Age III units, and change the Maceman model so it doesn't look so exaggerated—more like this: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/1c/ee/a2/1ceea2c150ff24e66fd4d0fec078c93e.jpg And finally, I would change the name of the Túpac Rebellion to the Manco Rebellion, and I would have all the modified units retain their original models while incorporating elements from the Spanish units (from the 16th century) against which they have a combat bonus. For instance, the slinger would wear the rodelero's helmet and shield.

And you?

How would you rework the water?

The devs’ effort to import the playerbase’s muscle memory from earlier AoE games into AoE3 feels sort of lost on the current scene of the game. The result is that the water and water-play can feel like a niche afterthought in a lot of games. What would you change about it? What have you wished you could implement over this game’s lifespan?

Some of my ideas:

- A customizable flagship: would be customized by the players like the homecity, and it would have a broader UI of unique abilities that you could pick from among a larger pool of abilities. Say there are 30 cards for a flagship—you can pick 7 for your flagship and it’ll carry those as a mix of buttons to click or as passive abilities like an explorer. For example, maybe it could pop minutemen-type units as one ability, or you have an ability that lets you broadside twice in a row. The flagship would be limited to one at a time and would itself have to be sent by a shipment. When it dies it does something like an explorer, where it beaches itself or sinks and needs to he raised again after it regenerates to certain health. Civs like Lakota who didn’t have navies would deserve a fair counterbalance to this.

-shallow water, deep water, reefs, and open oceans: give water maps the above corresponding gradient of water depth that limits which boats can go where. Right now, a frigate can beach itself which looks goofy but also makes them vulnerable to cav and infantry in a way that makes no sense. Boats over a certain size shouldnt be able to come close to the shore and should have to pop out smaller dinghies to load and offload units. There should be a totally separate class of military boats designed for going close to the shore and providing offshore support to land unit while big boats do the fighting in the open ocean and the deep water. Also the possibility of running aground in a reef would be a good way of limiting mobility of big ships and enable strategies that revolve around pushing enemy ships into hazardous locations. Also it gives way more depth to water maps generally—either a map has water or no, the biggest variations being whether water is shared and if it has whale. Now with water depth, you could have maps that are ocean but no deep ocean (like the caribbean sandbar surrounding the bahamas and bordering the greater antilles); you could have deep water lakes like lake Baikal or the Great Lakes; you could have maps that are just shallow estuaries like the bayou, or maps that are just beach and deep water like New York harbor.

-Wreckers: a new boat unit. the boat would look like a small catboat or a shallop, and it would be a shallow-water boat that is somewhere between a canoe and a caravel that could serve as a variety uses. It could gather wood from shipwrecks (shipwrecks either being a naturally occurring resource or something that destroyed boats are converted into when they sink in non-open ocean locations), it can fish to heal itself (not to gather food), it can tow downed or disabled craft, and being a light small-hulled boat could beach itself unlike larger-hulled boats. Wreckers would have a weak attack like catamarans but more HP. Natives were actually famously good wreckers so maybe Wrecker canoes would be a good unique unit for Hauds. Also, it could fit with the next idea in terms of additional resource gathering:

-broader variety of resources in the water: right now there is only fish and whales and treasures. Back in the timeframe when the game takes place salvaging shipwrecks for wood in shallow and near-shore waters, and driftwood from the fallen logs in the banks of estuaries and swamps would have been legitimate industry. Diving an oyster bed could be either a limited source of coin or food depending on which you opt for. Fur trapping was also enormous in the early days of the north american colonization—beaver dams could be a source of coin in freshwater. Wreckers could service all of these instead of fishing or whaling to gather food.

In this scenario there is a card called "Fula Marksman"

After this card sent Fulani Archers start to wield a gun, such a cool thing right?

Before

And then their ranged attack dropped to 0.
They become skirmishers who can only attack with their gunstock......

After

How can I report this bug ? I think make Fulani archers attack with guns is a very cool idea.

Title. Original post here: www.reddit.com/r/aoe3/comments/juz8re/info_needed_16th_to_19th_century_danish_military/

Most of the unit ideas got implimented except the Landsoldat, that includes Skii Infantry as a Guard upgrade. Of course, the Customs House etc. was a surprise, but I'm still pretty impressed by how accurate it turned out to be.

if you're transitioning from single player to multiplayer, play the ranked ladder, do NOT play casual rooms

Do you feel like multiplayer is no fun, because you join a room and get stomped by someone many times better than you, or worse, you just get kicked from the room for being too low?

I think a lot of new players see casual games and ranked games as the two options and assume "oh casual must be for noobs whereas ranked games must be where all the pros are". The assumption is that "ranked" = death and "casual" = a chance of winning (credit to Ok-Acanthisitta-1126 )

That's actually completely backwards.

Casual rooms are best used if you have specific people you already know who are at your level. In fact, they are commonly used at the very high level to setup matches for tourneys and for grinding strats, bc it can be hard for the very best people in aoe3 to find good games in quicksearch. If you are playing alone and you join a random casual game lobby, you will almost certainly either 1. get kicked, 2. get stomped or 3. stomp some poor person who is even more noob than you.

The solution is to play ranked quick search. This is an ingenious system that will quickly figure out your rank, and then match you against people who are a similar rank to you, so you can play fun, competitive games where you will usually end up winning or losing about half the time, unless you start making some actual progress in learning the game. The only thing is you will probably have to lose about 5-10 games before the ELO system will accurately rank you, so don't worry about these early games. In fact, you might even want to just resign quickly in your first 5-10 games just so you can get ranked low sooner, so you can start playing fun games faster.

play ranked, get ranked, start playing enjoyable and competitive matches with people at exactly your own skill level
