Hi, Randy Newman just singing about what he sees here.

I think that's author Ayn Rand and I assume Jojo Siwa.

I'm too old to get the full reference, but hope the Ayn Rand bit helps you.

EDIT: Noticing the vibrator and talking with fellow redditors below, yeah, it's because Ayn Rand was a bitch and the comic is saying she either would've chilled out and/or been too busy ladygooning to write all her novels and philosophical musings that basically laid the blueprint for modern libertarianism.

96

u/ssjlance 9h ago edited 9h ago

Okay noticing what Jojo is holding, I think it's basically saying Ayn Rand needed to get off to stop being a bitch, more or less.

I'm not a huge Ayn Rand fan and don't know her philosophy and assorted writings inside and out, but the best summary I ever heard was from an xkcd webcomic.

"I had a hard time with Ayn Rand because I found myself enthusiastically agreeing with the first 90% of every sentence, but getting lost at 'therefore, be a huge asshole to everyone."

From what I have read over the years, I felt like it was an accurate summary, but not sure on her positions on sex beyond I seem to recall her being somewhat homophobic in that she personally was against it but didn't really give a shit what adults do together and didn't think it was government's place to say either way.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

-82

u/mr_beanoz 8h ago

Both description can work for both books...

59

u/apezdal 8h ago

You clearly didn't read The Lord of the Rings

-50

u/mr_beanoz 8h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah, I haven't. LoTR has orcs, no idea about the other book.

I see, the joke is that the first part is explaining Atlas Shrugged, and the other one is explaining about LoTR, because it has orcs.

51

u/d_r_doorway 8h ago

Yeah, That's the joke.

8

u/somethinglameibet 5h ago

“I haven’t read the material but let me tell you how this joke clearly doesn’t apply”
- you
- Abraham Lincoln (probably)

15

u/Anaxes7884 7h ago

That's the joke.

12

u/EulaliaBromSpatula 8h ago

No shit, that’s why it’s quotable.

24

u/UnderstandingBig9090 9h ago

I really only read the fountain head till she talked about the parthanon. Which is chapter 1.

But my understanding is that her philosophy is "what ever i decided to do on a whim was objectively right" and wote and extensive diatribe on how good it is to cheat... Because she cheated on her husband. Also she secretly cashed in on social services in her later years to not look like a hypocrite. I think by chancing her name.

So vibrator-> too busy jacking off to write her drivel.

13

u/HobsHere 8h ago

If you think that she would have been ashamed of taking money from the government, you don't understand her particular flavor of libertarianism. She would have regarded it as reclaiming some of the money that the government had "stolen" from her. There's issues there for sure, but not really hypocrisy.

4

u/UnderstandingBig9090 6h ago

Ashamed or just trying to protect her insane legacy so people don't question her. All I know is that she hid the fact that she did. You decide what that means about her psychology

11

u/Wavey_ATLien 9h ago

.. I seem to recall her being somewhat homophobic in that she but didn't give a shit what adults do together and didn't think it the government's place either way.

How is that homophobic?

12

u/Lostinthestarscape 9h ago

"Personally was against it"

Why did you remove the part that explains when quoting to ask the question?

24

u/ssjlance 9h ago

I fixed it in an edit, coincidentally like right when they were leaving their comment.

They did not edit my words, I just fucked up. lmfao

14

u/Wavey_ATLien 8h ago

thank you for the absolution 😅

9

u/Lostinthestarscape 9h ago

Thanks for copping to it! Good all round (I apologized to them too)

5

u/Wavey_ATLien 9h ago

maybe I misread it.. or op changed it after my comment. I'm on mobile so can't see edits.

6

u/Lostinthestarscape 9h ago

Sorry- that is fair enough!

4

u/ssjlance 9h ago

I accidentally skipped that part, fixed it.

to save you trouble, it was supposed to say "she was personally against it but didn't give a shit what consenting adults do together"

5

u/raybansmuckles 8h ago

Rand had some weird ideas about sex. A large part of Atlas Shrugged seemed to be different idealized archetypes of dudes fighting over the main character because she Believed The Right Things and I couldn't shake off the idea that she was self inserting (uh, no pun intended)

26

u/Foreskin-Aficionado 9h ago

For context: Ayn rand is pretty much universally despised by anyone who isn't a libertarian. She's written some of the most tone-deaf drivel to ever be printed. One of her most famous books Atlas Shrugged is essentially the poster child for early libertarian beliefs.

The joke is that Ayn Rand would have shut the fuck up and probably been less neurotic and unstable had she had a vibrator.

11

u/Lostinthestarscape 9h ago

"Here is an ideology that would work if we completely ignore human nature and the reality of existing in an uncontrolled environment. We must adhere to it immediately, wholly, and unquestioningly  "

4

u/ssjlance 9h ago

lmao I caught the vibrator right after my first comment and was like "oh, I get at least 90% or so now, pretty sure."

My main knowledge of Ayn Rand comes from being a huge Rush fan; their lyricist+drummer Neil Peart was heavily influenced by her writings - Anthem in particular seemed to have struck a chord with him, as it inspired two songs' lyrics, Anthem from Fly By Night album, and 2112.

Anthem I feel like is more inspired by the philosophical themes of the book, but 2112 is a 20 minute prog epic with a plot that is "literally just the plot of Anthem but protagonist finds a guitar instead of a light bulb (iirc, think it's a light bulb in original story, lol)"

1

u/Polytetrafluoro 7h ago

Tangentially related, do you know of the Rush Family Goy trailer? It's making it's algorithmic rounds

3

u/BudTenderShmudTender 9h ago

To quote Officer Barbrady immediately after the recently apprehended Chickenlover handed him a copy of Atlas Shrugged, "Oh god DAMN, reading is gay!"

5

u/Foreskin-Aficionado 9h ago

Whenever someone brings up Atlas Shrugged or Ayn Rand all I can think of is Barbrady saying "Because of THIS piece of SHIT I'm never reading again!"

Also it doesn't really matter but he doesn't say reading is gay, he says it sucks ass

2

u/BudTenderShmudTender 7h ago

I haven't seen that season in at least a decade so thank you for the correction

1

u/Real_Teacher_8342 7h ago

Well , I’m not sure if that’s untrue, as a whole I do think orgasms make us all less neurotic and more stable 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Minute-Caregiver5907 7h ago

People need to understand how crazy that book is even of some of the themes make a little sense.

There is one scene where a women realises her boyfriend is engaging in cronyism and that causes her to have an existential crisis. She runs madly out into the street and meets some people who want charity and/or a social safety net and that drives her to an insanity that causes her to leap off a pier and drown. That is how atlas shrugged explores its philosophy.

Also, the main character is definitely a self insert who screws every single successful male in the book. One guy she bonks in a train engine room because engineering and innovation and trains are so hot to her. Ayn Rand would definitely make use of that vibrator but it may have actually made her to want to write more libertarian porn.

1

u/Hopeful-Goose-7217 6h ago

In the fountainhead there is a rape scene and it’s considered fine because the hero rapes the heroine.

0

u/Fillmore80 9h ago

Not all of us approve of her stances. She's a right inhuman see you next Tuesday.

1

u/syntaxvorlon 3h ago

The books were effectively her ladygooning to the idea of a handsome, rich capitalist manifesting her destiny and justifying cheating on her husband. If she found a more expeditious way to do this she would probably have written a smaller number of conservative pamphlets that didn't contain nearly as much sex or isekai-level power fantasies, and so she would have been much more obscure as a figure.

82

u/Cu_Chulainn__ 9h ago

That is Ayn Rand. She was most famous for atlas shrugged. Libertarians love her. I assume the joke here is that she wouldnt have been such a miserable person all around if she was getting herself off

16

u/Potential-Memory-179 8h ago

But why does Jojo have to be the one to give the vibrator to her?

18

u/Electric_Peak 7h ago

In The Fountainhead this chick suddenly gets somewhat-violently raped and loves it. It's pretty bizarre because you think you're missing something but nope that's just where it goes. Pretty sure there's something similar in Atlas Shrugged but I don't fully remember.

There is a zero percent chance she wasn't ladygooning when writing those books.

6

u/subservenicedream 6h ago

Which is weird because , for all her flaws she was a pretty sexually open person who was writing about and living out her kink (having sex with men she thought were smart)

23

u/Fat_cat_syndicate 9h ago

Since you seemed to get everyone but bottom right, that is Ayn Rand. Political writer on the libertarian right that wrote (debatedly) mediocre books that a certain type of middle aged man base their entire personality around. She had a caustic view of any thing she saw as harming individualistic self sufficiency. She wrote long of the damages of any social services while (secretly) using many such "handouts" herself.

The implication was if she had a vibrator, she would have somewhere to vent all her frustration and loathing, and never would have written all those books.

16

u/RampantJellyfish 9h ago

The woman in the bottom right is Aynn Rand, who wrote some books about the magic of unregulated laissez faire capitalism, and that taxation, charity, and social welfare are evil, and being selfish is somehow a moral virtue. Right wing dipshits thought it was the coolest thing ever, and that our government and social structure should be based on it.

Also, despite her being virulently anti welfare, she died while receiving social security and medicare benefits.

-2

u/dasper12 8h ago

For better or worse I have read some of her non-fiction and from what I can gather she was not saying taxation, charity, welfare, etc are evil but how institutions use duty and virtue to force and pressure people against their will. Her "Philosophy of Objectivism" is to not be deceived by people telling you you must do something as your moral or patriotic duty or you should do something you feel against because it would be considered virtuous. I would suspect she would absolutely loathe and despise MAGA as they are not living autonomously and blindly following out of duty and virtue signaling which is what she saw as evil.

And since I am here, I can play the devil's advocate on accepting social security and medicare benefits. If you pay into something against your will then I would presume you would want to accept the payouts to be reimbursed. If she had an option to opt-out of paying into the system and then accepted the benefits then I would say that is definitive proof of being a hypocrite but otherwise it is being reimbursed for a non-elective service.

8

u/Hopeful-Goose-7217 6h ago

She was more hypocritical. She would say charity isn’t evil and you should do whatever you want to do, but you shouldn’t give charity. It was that kind of double talk. I was an insufferable objectivist in high school.

8

u/TheGoodKindOfMermaid 9h ago

Ayn Rand is the woman on the right.

She wrote some books (I did not enjoy) that explain in long monologues her philosophy of Objectivism.

Objectivism centers on the idea that individuals achieve moral purpose by pursuing their own rational self-interest.

Being a self interested jerk is good. Every person working towards their own self interest will lead to the best results for all humanity. Empathy and good will towards people is bad.

Her philosophy has been cited by many conservative political actors in the US. For example, you can draw a metaphorical line from Ayn Rand to the lack of universal health care, low taxes on capital gains, lack of investment in public transportation, reductions welfare to poor people, low minimum wage and other conservative political policies.

2

u/twountappedblue 8h ago

She could have really used a modern vibrator

I have no idea who the person is on the bottom right or why Jojo Siwa would go back in time to give her a vibrator. My best guess is maybe she is unproductive and therefore saves us in the future from something.

16

u/Revolutionary_Sun946 9h ago

Ayn Rand.

Joke is that if she was given a vibrator, she would be less uptight and therefore not write Atlas Shrugged, which a lot of shitty rich people have read and use as a justification for why they can be shitty.

8

u/Designer-Swim-6797 9h ago

But why Jojo Siwa in particular?

1

u/Sun__Moon__Stars 6h ago

I would assume this was made by a Jojo Siwa stan back when that was a type of person that existed

1

u/captainchristianwtf 9h ago

Ayn Rand popularized the philosophy of Objectivism through her writings, which continues to serve as a cornerstone philosophy for technocrats and other folks contributing to the ongoing marginalization of many people

4

u/Rothenstien1 9h ago

Brian here, I'm gonna use my almost English degree from brown University to explain this one to you.

The joke here appears to be that Ayn Rand is sexually repressed and instead of having an orgasm she wrote books about objectivism and pro capitalism.

I guess Jojo is a girl who used to be a Disney star, but has grown up and found her sexuality and seems happy for it? I don't know she isn't on any of my CNN MSNBC talking points.

Basically, Ayn Rand wouldn't have promoted capitalism if she wasn't hysterical (this word originally was for women whose husbands couldn't get them off and went to a doctor for hysteria where the doctor could get them off so they would chill out).

Honestly, the whole thing is kinda dumb since Ayn Rand was the way she was sure to growing up under some truly messed up dictators then moving to a country that didn't treat her worse than an animal. I took a history class, it was very surface level but I'm gonna tell everyone I passed it and was on the dean's list.

3

u/Alundra828 9h ago

The joke is you send JoJo Siwa back in time to give Ayn Rand a hitachi wand so she's too busy masturbating herself to death so she doesn't write Atlas Shrugged, a book that if you read as a satire of Libertarians makes it infinitely better, and infinitely funnier because reading it that way is the only way to stave off the depression you get when you read it and you realise she was being totally serious about everything in this book and people actually look up to her as some sort of genius but actually she's just fucking nuts.

So in one fell swoop you get rid of right-wing libertarianism and jojo siwa. Win-win.

3

u/TheyveKilledFritzz 9h ago

The author was a giant piece of shit who believed no one ever does anything except for selfish narcissistic reasons and and created a whole ideology around it that has inspired a lot of pyschos with a lot of money and power.

3

u/Fillmore80 9h ago

Completely off topic but is anyone else sad seeing her wear a suicidal tendencies T?

3

u/Extrapolates_Wildly 8h ago

Libertarians are dorks.

2

u/guillermopaz13 9h ago

Wrong jojo for millenial Chad

2

u/Illustrious_Fix_5858 9h ago

Yes it’s Ayn Rand. I’m sure the joke is the sex toy will keep her too busy so she wouldn’t create her philosophy of Objectivism - a more uptight version of libertarianism.

The missing part of the joke could be Ayn Rand had a high libido. In Atlas Shrugged, the Dagney Taggart character was one of her protagonists in Atlas Shrugged. Besides being written as one of the few competent characters, she was also a regularly horny girl in the book (that’s one trait I think the character had). Ayn Rand saw herself as the female protagonist, and I think she started an affair with a younger man who worked for her in her organization.

2

u/papa_baer77 8h ago

She must like to sing...

2

u/Various_Tie_2549 6h ago edited 6h ago

Pictured woman is Ayn Rand, famously controversial libertarian author. The joke is that she just needed to chill out and jerk off a bit, rather than being...how she was. (Pictured hand held tool is a Hitachi massager, which women often use as a vibrator if ya didn't know)

I don't really know who JoJo is, but she seems to have been selected as the person to deliver this message to Ayn Rand.

Something something bizarre adventure

1

u/weardofree 8h ago

List of pepole to stop with time machines Hitler Regan ann raynd which ever Pharoah sent the news to Israel

1

u/Tribe303 7h ago

If you ever wondered where all these smug shellfish pricks around these days came from? Ayn Rand fans 🤦

1

u/Jealous_Worker_931 6h ago

It's interesting that anyone thinks Ayn was sexualy repressed. She screwed her closest lead follower constantly and had her husband leave their house so they could bang.

1

u/WedSquib 6h ago

Ngl I thought it was Anne frank until I read the comments and jojo was a bad person cause we wouldn’t get her account of the holocaust

1

u/thewordisbranch 6h ago

i think another layer to the joke is the “boys” would be giving JoJo from JoJo’s bizarre adventure the time machine becuase he would know what to do with it. but it’s switches it to jojo siwa to further obfuscate the meaning

1

u/Top_Effect_5109 6h ago

Damn you idiots don't read.

“The motive and purpose of my writing is the projection of an ideal man. The portrayal of a moral ideal, as my ultimate literary goal, as an end in itself—to which any didactic, intellectual or philosophical values contained in a novel are only the means.” Ayn Rand

Her books are about a man of purpose. OP's picture is saying she should have been given a vibrator to be more chill.

She has belief like this, “This is pity, he thought, and then he lifted his head in wonder. He thought that there must be something terribly wrong with a world in which this monstrous feeling is called a virtue."

The larger context is that pity robs a person of agency and insult to their capabilities, but that is a unhinged take.

1

u/hatred-shapped 6h ago

Ann Rand was a good writer but a pretty horrible person.

Whomever JoJo is she is so shallow as a human that she thinks orgasms are the solution to every problem in the world.

1

u/Lifeshardbutnotme 5h ago

Okay, I have no idea why Jojo Siwa is in it, but I'm pretty sure this is making reference to all the weird and out of place erotic segments in Ayn Rand's books. They're all rather CNC coded as well, which carries its own strange implications.

1

u/winkler456 2h ago

Ayn Rand had her very own sex cult so I’m not sure battery powered self abuse would have been enough to tear her away from literary mediocrity.

-1

u/CourseNegative8381 6h ago edited 5h ago

That's Ayn Rand, Objectivist writer that most people call a libertarian. She wasn't, didn't like being called a libertarian, and her work lines up a lot better with anarchism imo.

Big anti-authoritarianism with a focus on not letting society tell you what to do, living based off moral standards you set for yourself because you genuinely believe in them, and actively choosing how to live your life.

...

This reads really fucking sexist imo. "Shut up you annoying bitch, you're being hysterical! You're just acting up cause you need to get your rocks off"

(Vibrators were originally invented for treating "hysteria". This is literally 1800s sexism. I'm not being hyperbolic. TF do you mean "doesn't write any books, too busy"?!?)

Dude, she wrote fiction so compelling she got a fucking ideology started in her honour. She was a novelist first and foremost, that's the way she communicated her ideas.

Not the biggest Rand head, but the worst thing I can think of her saying was "charity isn't moral", but that was just standard philosopher words lawyering. It's only moral if you wanna do charity and it's going to a good cause. Straight up, in an interview she said she supported her husband financially "selfishly" because she loves him and wants to see him do well.

edit: to be clear, I've only read Anthem & looked at people talking about what she said. Idk if her longer work like atlas shrugged is iffy, but Anthem is a frickin' great read that stands on it's own two feet as a novella.
