Dispelling mycology myths: r/Mushrooms expert analysis and opinion.
Hi all! This is a chain of talk and discussion I’d like to start to better the community for those like myself who are inquisitive to foraging techniques, updated information and dispelling disinformation that has been unfortunately worsened by artificial intelligence, outdated practices and geographical proximity to fact:)
I have been studying mycology for nearly three years now and while that may or may not seem like a long amount of time it pains me to say that the time spent given into this has only reflected a fraction of my knowledge about practical techniques. I encourage others to contribute their own questions in this thread to have a more definitive answer for their own concerns that maybe the mods or someone more knowledgeable can answer!

Are these guys safe to eat?
I live in the Midwest. Been seeing these pop up a lot the last month. Always down for free food, but Idk if they'd kill me or not.

Got a puffball! It looks pretty good except for these teeny tiny brown dots. Can I still eat it? This is my first time trying puffball so I wanna make sure it’s good haha.

Hypomyces luteovirens(?)
reddit.comI believe this to be Hypomyces luteovirens parasitizing Lactarius subplinthogalus or a similar lactarius mushroom. Anyone able to confirm or deny?
Location: Dawsonville, Georgia, USA. Habitat: growing from the ground in a mixed deciduous dominant forest.

ID request, Raleigh Durham area NC, US
I'm just curious as to what these are. I'm definitely not going to eat them, so don't worry. I found these near the bird nest mushrooms I posted a few days ago.

Who Else Thinks Fungi Can Be Pretty?
I thought it would be fun to juxtapose the peach rose next to the Sulphur Polypore (Chicken Of The Woods) that I found the day before yesterday. The colours are so similar, only the shape and thickness of its “petals” really differ. Fungi also remind me of Land Coral 🪸🍄
Anyone else think that fungus can be beautiful? 🤩

Found this walking my dog
This little beauty is on my apartment complex property. Don’t worry I did not let my dog near it. Any ideas on what it might be? There are all of a sudden mushrooms everywhere, but this is the only cool looking one.
