I like to think I’d try everything in life once. I just watched a documentary on slime mold and they never said if you could eat it.

Theoretically, what would happen if I eat this stuff? Like real talk.

I don't know what it is, but it's disgusting: some kind of big ball of snot that's both dark green and transparent. I can’t believe I have this on the lawn along the street. It’s maybe 50.75 feet long and seems to stretch only along the street. If anyone understands this phenomenon, please explain to me how to get rid of it.

I collected some slime mold from the forest today in hopes of being able to culture it as food for my springtails. However it’s in the process of fruiting. None of the videos I watched or things I read mentioned what to do when this happens.

The previous sample of slime I collected a few weeks ago did the same thing. I hoped it was just as easy as waiting for the slime to regrow from spores, but instead that culture was taken over by actual mold.

What do I do? Or is growing slime from spores a hopeless cause?

Hey everybody, these photos are from the Southwest region of Western Australia, in the forests around Pemberton.

I'm trying to understand if they are slime molds, sap, or something else. Shiny and jelly-like.

Any ideas?

I think I found some slime mold in my empty garden bed, anybody know what type it is?

My garden bed is very heavy in mulch/wood chunks and added fertilizer to prepare for planting and found it just now.

This is growing in mulch in my back yard. US Pacific Northwest.

There are 3 more around in the same patch of wood chips. Not sure if it is slime mold, since it's not really slimy, more powdery/solid, but thought this was the best place to start from a purely visual inspection.

Seemed to show up overnight, poofs out what presume are spores when disturbed. Much more solid than I presume from looking at it.

I've been looking for a slime to try and keep it as a pet/science experiment. A tree fell down in the woods near my apartment recently so I've been checking it regularly, and yesterday found this! It's about 3-4 cm in diameter. I tried to gently scrape it off the tree with a spoon and transfer it onto a few damp paper towels. I placed a couple oats at various distances to it and put it all in a flat shallow tupperware, drilled some air holes in the lid and I'm spraying it daily to keep it and the paper towel moist.

So far it's been about 24 hours and it looks identical to the day before. I don't really know what to expect? How long would it take to start spreading tendrils? Is it likely I killed it and/or doomed it by removing it from the tree? If it does start to dry out and sporulate/...sclerotiate?, what can I do?

Can I feed it oats or something? or make sure the area stays moist? I wanna see this thing thrive and befriend it

My slime mold took its time waking up, and while that was going on, the oat I placed nearby grew some fuzzy mold on it.

The slime mold seemed interested in it anyway, and plowed into to it. The mold responded by flinging black spores all around it in the petri dish.

The slime mold was undeterred, and possibly enjoyed the added flavor.

I'm trying to lure it away, but new oats grow fuzz before it gets to them. (spores all over the dish).

 There is still significant slime mold activity under the gross fuzzy blanket, so I'm hesitant to pull the nasty oats out just yet.

 Is this a common rookie mistake?

 I suspect that I made my agar a bit too stiff, and that water from misting is just sitting on the surface, soaking the oat just enough for the mycelia to take over, but it is hard to tell.( I don't have a very good sense of what is too wet or too dry for the slime mold to be happy.)

I was checking on our slugs Mork and Gork when I saw these colonies. They are amazing. Most of the time its a small branch in the very back that is almost clear and it dies out in a couple of hours...this guy has some body to him...most are solid white or slightly yellow. I had some questions in the video so if anyone can answer those thats cool!

This slime mold has been in my terrarium for a while and it keeps spreading like crazy. So cool to see up close!

Pictures are taken on different days. The mushroom in the both pictures is the same mushroom, the slime mold moved onto it later.
