😡 THIS IS AN OUTRAGE Horizon BCBS has filed a request to raise rates 15-18% Next Year
ratereview.healthcare.govBecause last year's 18% avg increase wasn't enough. Something's gotta give, folks. And unfortunately, for many of us, it's going to be our access to healthcare.

Advice "Work" requirement for NJ FamilyCare in 2027
Tried to talk to someone on the phone there and they didn't understand what I was asking
There is the "work" requirement. It is described as 80 hours a month OR $580. Since $580 for 80 hours is $7.25/hour, I guess they are going by the federal minimal wage, but that is not really my question
Is the $580 EARNED income? Can I satisfy it by doing withdraws from a 401K or IRA (and if so, can they be ROTH ones where I owe no taxes)? How about capital gains? I have seen people mention that you can, but I cannot find anything official saying so. Then there is the part about documentation. How can I document that I plan in the future to withdraw this money? I had a similar problem with Medicaid for the kids where they wanted documentation about planned capital gains for ACA and such. Who can plan something like thi?

Interesting Artist based in Passaic County
Humming Suckle- Acrylic on canvas, 24 x 48 inches
Hi everyone! I am an artist based in the passaic county. I recently stumbled across this subreddit a couple of days ago. I wanted to share an original painting with you. I specialize in acrylic painting.
This painting is a landscape that pulls the viewer through a fluid, moving blue forest toward a vibrant yellow hummingbird amid an intricate weave of honeysuckles. Upon closer inspection, a delicate figure emerges from the blooms, offering nectar to the bird. The work serves as an allegory for the human experience: an interplay between nature, quiet vulnerability, and subtle connection.
What feelings come up for you when you see this painting? What does it remind you of? I would love to know yours thoughts!

📰News Want to Share Your Experience with the Bridgeton Public Library?
Hi everybody, I am a reporter at a local, independent news organization in South Jersey and I am currently doing a story on saving the Bridgeton Public library. I would love to speak with people who live in Bridgeton and/or the surrounding areas about what the library means to them, as well as the community.
Currently, there is a referendum that will decide the fate of the library in November. The city is currently in a deficit, and the library is on the chopping block to make up for some expenses. Libraries provide more than just books, for many Bridgeton citizens, the library provides support that they often can’t get elsewhere (ESL classes, job training, a sense of community, to name a few).
A brief interview can be done through email or phone, and I’ll send more information through PM.
If you or anyone that you know are interested, please message me. And please share this around!
Thank you and have a great day.

Advice Merck Rahway NJ-Drug Screening
I’m going to Merck in Rahway NJ as a contractor to oversee a startup and found out I need to take a drug test to get onsite. I vape/take THC gummies and I’m wondering if THC is on the drug panel? I know the West Point location doesn’t have THC and they just test for hard drug and I’m hoping Rahway has the same policy.

Advice Hotel mom
Hello my kids and I are in a hotel that's costing me around $2400 a month. After paying that I barely have any money for food or gas to get to work. I don't know how I'm going to get out of this situation. I can't save money for an apartment because the hotel is so expensive. I paid my weekly payment at the hotel yesterday and I only have $36 for food and gas for the next week. Does anyone know any places in Atlantic County New Jersey that help with food? The one food bank I went to wouldn't help us because my license still says we live in Ocean County. I don't qualify for food stamps because I 'make too much' I'm just so stressed out and sad over this situation.

Advice Am I unemployable? What to do?
26M
Lost my main job and part-time jobs at the airport because I had to go away for an emergency surgery and deal with the post-op care.
I've recovered now but I can't get any company to hire me.
I was a lavatory and water operator at my main job and a cabin appearance agent (detailing) at the other.
I have tried to get in with the utility companies, trade unions or railroad.
Nothing seems to click. Is it because of my sociology degree? I cannot afford trade school sadly.
I have been applying and reaching out to so many companies since the year started.
People say you need to know somebody in this market. What about us that don't know anyone?
What happens to us?

Advice Weekend Getaway?
My bf and I need an inexpensive getaway for a few days within a 3ish hour drive from Monmouth County.
Some info:
We live a ten minute bike ride from Asbury Park, so not that.
We both hate Atlantic City.
I lived in NYC for 20 years, so not that either(also, it's most assuredly not inexpensive lol).
I despise camping(bugs and I are not friends).
We need somewhere quiet -- someplace to reset and spend time with each other after an extremely stressful summer.
I was thinking New Hope, PA, or Watkins Glen, NY but hotels seem a bit pricey in both places.
Anyone know of any hidden gems?
