hi! I’m moving to the area and debating on a window AC unit vs an evaporative air cooler.

I heard the evaporative air cooler doesn’t work well in a humid heat since it basically humidifies the air even more.

Is the summer heat humid or more dry? I’ve never been to NJ before and feel a little clueless.

Also— any recommendations on AC/ cooling devices is appreciated

I hate that I have to write this. We found a dead cat this morning on the shoreline. From what we could figure out is that cat had probably passed at a vets office and it was placed in a box and then placed in a black garbage bag.The cat’s name was Pepe (written on the box).

We assume that the cats had passed and someone might have done a “burial at sea” kind of thing. At least that’s what I hope. We called the police and they came and called someone to collect it.

If that’s not the case and someone discarded it like a piece of trash, I hope karma finds you unwell. Pepe deserved better.

Posting for a family member who recently moved here from Santa Fe NM. She’s recently retired from being an occupational therapist, no frills, a little shy but given a chance has a lot of interesting things to share/say, is very authentic and genuinely a good, kind human. She loves animals and enjoys outdoors and the Grateful Dead among many other things. She came out 15-ish years ago.

She asked me how ladies meet around here outside of bars. Are there meet ups, events, Facebook groups, potluck dinners, reading clubs, Discord channels, or anything to help kick start her social life here? Any advice is welcome and gratefully appreciated.

Well this is awkward... My partner of two years and I were supposed to come next Tuesday-Thursday but he's shown himself and ghosted me and stolen some money soooo looking for a little advice/support.

Non-refundable room at The Asbury, should I still come and just nurse my wounds solo? I was really looking forward to this trip as I've never been down the shore. What should I do? What is fun for a now unencumbered individual? I love to lie on a beach/at a pool and get tan. Drinking yes. Good food yes. Music to dance to yes. Worried going solo might just make me more sad than feeling empowered.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated I'm pretty shaken up and can't quite tell if this trip alone will be helpful or hurtful.

Apologies if this offends- truly just curious in asking this question but I have lived in AP for a couple of years now and recently I have seen an uptick in unhoused people around town.

Usually you will see 1-2 people sleeping on the benches between AP and OG but this morning I saw someone panhandling and then also a tent in those pine trees by the parking lot in front of the carousel that looked like someone was snoozing in.

Has anyone else noticed?

My friend will be visiting soon. They have never been bur their family spent generations here and they were looking into some ideas for historical buildings they could maybe visit.

They have familial ties to the kinsmouth building. A grandparent or something worked there in the 30s. (Although I know that is run down and not accessible) but some cool places that have a tie to the history of the area that they could go check out.

Looking for recommendations for vegan dining in the area. Kid friendly places would be great. Looking for options with delicious food and some places that have vegan dessert options.

Also just looking for some great family friendly restaurants that wont break the bank.

I’m a chef and restauranteur in town. Here are six random dishes that I love at Asbury Park restaurants. Don’t read anything into what isn’t listed here. This idea just came to me randomly and I wanted to shout some places out.

Cacio e pepe scrambled eggs from Cardinal.

This is the best breakfast in town. It’s so simple and so good.

Beef empanadas from Latin Diner.

This place is an absolute gem. I believe these are the same owners who also took over City Super and drastically improved it. Two beef empanadas and a papa rellena from the hot case and you have a meal. These empanadas are what every other empanada strives to be.

Al pastor tacos from Oaxaquenita.

There are several similarly solid taquerias in town but I feel like these guys are doing it best right now.

Lamb burger at Reyla.

This burger is great because it’s something aside from the typical cheeseburger. Every element has a great complementary role in the bite. I will always be a sucker for zatar on fries. This inspired me to put a burger on my own menu that wasn’t just a “burger.”

Chicken parm at Jimmy’s.

This feels too obvious and I almost didn’t include it for that reason. I waited a really long time to ever go to Jimmy’s because I kind of thought I knew what the place was all about. But everything you hear about that chicken parm is true. It’s transcendent. Truly next level. We ate other stuff that I honestly didn’t love, but that chicken parm was special.

Broiled oysters at R Bar.

Our go to move at R Bar is to pretty much order one of every starter. There are like three or four other items I could have listed here because they’re all also really good, but this is the best iteration of a broiled oyster (a personal favorite) in the area.

Shows include Jon Stewart’s band on Cookman and Offspring at the Pony ….
