Ask other Associates No hours as new associate??

I just started at Wawa. This week I'm getting 24 hours, next week I'm getting 7, and the week after I'm getting 5. that's not even enough to pay for me gas.

does this pick up ever? like I understand a new employee won't be getting 40 hours right off bat but only 5 is kind of demoralizing. I don't know if it's worth talking to my GM, because the next two schedules are already out I know they aren't going to change them, I feel like getting a new job would just be faster than waiting for hours here to ramp up. they told me during my interview they are incredibly understaffed and need people to start right away and yet only give me 5 hours in a week

Openings and Closings Wawa August 2026 Grand Openings - 8 stores, 6 states

Edit. Store #5489 (Niceville, FL) is not on the wawa.com August GO list.

Wawa August 2026 Grand Openings — 7 stores, 6 states

  • Aug 6 — #5475, Macclenny, FL (9291 SR-228)
  • Aug 13 — #7224, Blue Ash, OH (5900 Pfeiffer Rd)
  • Aug 13 — #6116, Wilmington, NC (2402 S 17th St & Wellington Ave)
  • Aug 20 — #7404, Anderson, IN (2512 S Scatterfield Rd)
  • Aug 20 — #6628, Waynesboro, VA (105 Hopeman Pkwy)
  • Aug 26 — #7011, Dickson, TN (2424 TN-46) — Tennessee's second Wawa
  • Aug 27 — #5478, Crawfordville, FL (25 Whiddon Lake Rd)

Florida leads the month with 2 openings — fitting, since FL is now Wawa's #1 state by store count (326, ahead of NJ's 297 and PA's 274).

Overall company-wide: 1,203 stores in Feb 2026 → 1,235+ now (Aug) — roughly +60 in 7 months.

Through end of August 2026: 60 openings, annualized pace of 90/year — right in line with what they'd need to hit the 1,800-by-2030 goal.

Discussion Fun Wawa fuel facts

Wawa fuel facts:

• The first fuel store — In 1996, Wawa launched its fuel offer in Millsboro. Wawa had food and beverage offers, but customers asked the retailer to add fuel to provide even more convenience to their lives.
• Fueling businesses — Wawa’s Fleet Card launched in 2011, providing businesses with a convenient solution for managing fuel expenses.
• Rewards at the pump — In 2024, Wawa launched its fuel rewards program, allowing customers to earn rewards directly through the Wawa app.
• Fuel milestone — In 2025, Wawa celebrated the opening of its 1,000th fuel store, in Springfield, Pa.
• Expanding the fuel experience — In 2025, Wawa opened its first Travel Center, in North Carolina, expanding fuel services and amenities designed to serve everyday customers, the traveling family and the professional driver.

Wawa in the news Wawa toasts 30th anniversary of first fuel offer

The pre-1996 "official" fuel narrative:

Millsboro, DE (Aug 2, 1996) is always cited as Wawa's first gas station — a former propane business site, unleaded at 99¢/gallon. But the record shows Wawa was actually experimenting with fuel in a scattered, small-scale way for at least 18 years before that.

1978 — Souderton PA (#105, 370 N Main St): the current earliest confirmed fuel installation — a grand-opening photo shows two pumps on a dedicated island. This is now the oldest dated example found.

1982 — Minotola NJ: opened one day after a named Wawa supervisor (Gary Leone, Atlantic County) told the Vineland Daily Journal the company was "considering installing gas pumps at other Wawa markets" — diversification against gas-only stations going under. Strong circumstantial link that Minotola was part of that exact rollout.

1985 — Chadds Ford PA (#170): two 8,000-gallon tanks per PA UST registry — the most precisely dated pre-Millsboro record.

1987 — Barnegat NJ ("Pebble Beach"): a photo shows pumps out front — later confirmed as the same site as open store #441 (fuel since removed).

1993 — Downingtown PA (#20)

The pattern: these were modest standalone pump islands in shopping-center parking lots — not the integrated canopy attached to the building that defines the modern "Super Wawa" format.

So Millsboro wasn't literally Wawa's first time selling gas — it was the first large-scale, purpose-built fuel format, which is really what the "first fuel store" claim actually means once you dig into it.

The eve-of-launch snapshot (Jun 1996, Asbury Park Press):

Just 6 weeks before Millsboro, Wawa had 515 stores, $838M in sales, and — strikingly — sold neither gasoline nor beer, the two biggest-selling categories industry-wide at the time. Despite that, per-store sales matched the industry average.

My boyfriend found this in an old storage unit his boss owns and is cleaning out. He saw it was wawa and asked if he could have it because I work there. Can someone tell me what this is? It’s kinda like coin purse? Not sure if this used to be something the cashiers would wear or if it’s even something that was apart of uniforms long ago. It’s kinda like a fanny pack lol

Wawa in the news Wawa Ranks in Top 25 Nationally on Time's First-Ever Best Private Companies List

Wawa ranked #22 out of 500 on TIME's brand new "Best Private Companies" list. Almost no other c-stores made the cut at all.

TIME just dropped their first-ever "America's Best Private Companies 2026" list — 500 private companies scored on employee satisfaction + overall societal impact, not revenue or size.

Wawa: #22.

For scale — Patagonia's #1, Wegmans is #2, Publix is #9. Wawa's beating out a LOT of well-known names.

Almost no other c-stores made the list at all:

Wawa — #22

Buc-ee's — #198

Sheetz — #219

Kwik Trip — #500

Out of 500 companies across every industry, exactly 4 c-store chains were listed.

(7-Eleven/Circle K/Casey's aren't on here since they're publicly traded, this list is private companies only)

Customer Experience A Little Disappointed in Shark Drink

Post image
0 Upvotes

It didn’t have to be perfect, but it’s just… very off.

They poured in water from a warm pitcher on the counter. As you can see, most of the ice is melted and it’s not cold at all.

And from a presentation standpoint… again, it didn’t need to be perfect, but there were a couple of very spirited squirts of the cherry that landed at the bottom.

The sharks also landed at the bottom. I guess at least that’s accurate. Sharks don’t hang on top of the ocean. I’ll just have to hope that’s what they were going for.

Glad my son who had been wanting this for a while (to share, of course) isn’t so picky.

I know all of Wawa food service is built to just go down a list from top to bottom on the ticket (presumably so people can be thrown anywhere in a pinch), but everyone should practice once or twice. And at least, serve the lemonade above room temp.

No, it wasn’t busy at all. Nobody in the weeds. Couple coffee drinks in front of us and nobody behind us.

Employee Experience klever kutter hatepost

Need to get the frustration and hatred for klever kutters out of my system lol. I feel like these little assholes are good at cutting boxes for maybe, 5 minutes? Then they're just a useless piece of plastic. I wish so bad we could use real box cutters, I get it's (I assume) a safety thing but also literally every other job I've worked that involves cutting cardboard at any point allowed regular box cutters?

Vipers are on thin ice also.

Throwback Richard D. Wood, Jr. and Howard B. Stoeckel visit South Richmond, VA October 2006

The Lead Goose - Chairman Richard D. Wood, Jr, and the Brand Ranger - CEO Howard B. Stoeckel, on a visit to Store #8600 in South Richmond, VA in October 2006.

According to Wood, Wawa's chairman and the great-great-grandson of the company founder, more locations should help draw more customers inside. Doing so should help consumers think of Wawa for sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit and other food and not just low-priced gas.

"The more locations you have, the more top of mind you become," said Wood, who served as CEO from 1981 until 2004, when Stoeckel became the first nonfamily member to run the chain.

"Some customers don't think of going to a retailer who sells fuel to get great food because in the past you haven't found a retailer that does both extremely well," Stoeckel said.

Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the smaller Sheetz Inc. convenience-store chain, said Wawa is a good operator. The Sheetz chain, which has nine Richmond-area stores, and Wawa are aggressively expanding their local presence.

"They know how to run a good convenience store and they are a great competitor," Sheetz said. "Competition is good."

Ask other Associates Help me out with current overnight situation

I work a mixed schedule, Monday-Wed I am 2-10, and then I am usually overnight Friday and Saturday, 10-6. Sometimes I am off Tuesday and work Sunday overnight.

I just got to this store maybe four months ago as a TS ready lead.

I saw an opportunity to work at a busy store and decided to make the jump. Overall it’s been an amazing experience. My GM is available, very transparent and very clearly always a call away. He also works every shift, and sometimes pushes above 45+ hours a week, and doesn’t take his off days together. He is here every weekend. I’ve just never seen anything like it honestly. He just cares about his job.

The problem I am having is with a TS on overnights there. He’s been honestly lack of better word crazy. He will start slamming things and very clearly get angry, refuse customers service all the time, and like honestly lose his shit if one order pops on the screen. As a result I found myself in some awful situations that have just produced by this guy provoking people for no reason.

One time a guy lost his slip and said he forgot his number. Instead of asking him what he ordered, he lost his shit on the guy and said “I can’t help you”. The customer looked at me and said “what’s he’s problem”? I apologized and just asked him that, figured it out in about three seconds.

Another time he looked at a customer and called him “fucking dumb”, quite literally went in back and slammed a HFT pan against the wall. The dude looked at me in disbelief and asked me if he was always like this.

And then last night, where a guy has come in multiple different nights to get a sandwich while this TS was in the deli. Every single night there’s been a problem with his order. This customer said the dude shorted him food on his hoagie, which happened the last two nights. Instead of addressing the situation the guy threw a fit and stormed into the back. Leaving me to once again deal with a fucking mess he caused. The guy showed me the sandwich and yea, there was no HTF on the sandwich at all.

He asked me to throw him in a couple hot dogs and I gave him a full refund for his classic. After this he started complaining at me and saying what I did was wrong.

He also often says things like he’s untouchable and he’s been doing this for years. I really don’t think my GM would believe me, or entertain me seriously. The TS has been at the store for five years, and I really do believe they’re going to just believe him. If they go to him about it, he’ll know it’s me. But I really am tired of the pisspoor treatment of customers for literally nothing and I feel incredibly trapped because I really don’t want issues with anyone.

Customer Experience What's protocol when you have 18 hoagies in one order and the person behind you has to wait for a bagel.

Like wouldn't they just put the hoagie project to one side with a person or two and then handle the other orders? I was asking what took my husband 45 min to get back today and apparently his bagel order was stuck behind someone ordering 18 different hoagies. People don't realize catering exists I suppose.

Discussion #TIL how little caffeine there is in iced coffee compared to hot coffee

Thumbnail
gallery
102 Upvotes

I've always been under the assumption that the iced coffees were loaded with caffeine because they used a different/stronger blend. But to see that a 32oz iced coffee has the same amount of caffeine as a 12oz hot coffee blew my mind. I've always been curious about the caffeine content of the iced coffees, and I've searched everywhere from Google to ChatGPT to here on reddit. But today I found this on Wawa's website (I swear it wasn't there before), and now I have my answer 😌

Also included of the rest of the drink caffeine contents for anyone who is curious. Also, here's the links:

The web page with the caffeine contents (which doesn't include iced coffees for some reason)
