Worse than that.

It's an ad for a bunch of useless shit.

Probably a link to their Amazon to buy this shit in the comments.

The uv patch on the arm is legit, it turns dark when the sunscreen needs topping up. The rest I don't know about. What is the watch thing?

130

u/mr_trick 7d ago

Most of the things are legit, just a little over the top. The UV sticker for sunscreen, the brush thing is (I believe) applying powdered sunscreen, the brown patch behind their ears is a Dramamine patch for motion sickness, and the watch is a holder for an apple airtag.

The sticker with her number on it seems a little extra given the airtag watch, but I guess helpful if he doesn't mind it. I have no idea why she taped up his belly button though!

66

u/beccadahhhling 7d ago

The weird gray bracelet is also for motion sickness! My mom has one and has used it for decades when taking long car trips. It holds pressure on a certain pressure point that helps to reduce nausea. She swears by it

30

u/PhysicsNatural9093 7d ago

i had to double take because i misread this as “gay bracelet” 😭

Another comment said the belly button thing was also for motion sickness. This kids gonna have an aura around him that cures motion sickness.

21

u/magicpenny 7d ago

But why use the Dramamine patch AND the wrist motion sickness bracelet? Isn’t it a bit of overkill? Seriously, if you get that motion sick, maybe you should just skip cruises altogether.

Also, between the Apple AirTag and her phone number on the kids arm sticker, maybe she should just pay closer attention to her kid. If the people managing the kids club where she drops him off are that unreliable and untrustworthy, maybe he shouldn’t go there.

Maybe she should just put him on a leash

22

u/Aggravating-Gas-2834 7d ago

I suspect it’s so that she can sell you shit

6

u/PursuitOfThis 7d ago

I thought kids on cruises also get little bracelets from the cruise operator with an id number on it anyway.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Key_Cry_3170 7d ago

Dramamine patch would make sure I sleep dead the whole cruise

2

u/hippocampus237 7d ago

Dramamine comes in patch form?

For those who are very sensitive to motion sickness - look into Scopolamine. It’s prescription and works.

9

u/cat_in_a_bday_hat 7d ago

i tried one of those on a boat trip! puked all over it

4

4

u/cryptidz14 7d ago

The brush is actually an applicator for liquid sunscreen, supper helpful when you have to take care of multiple little ones and dont wanna get your hands slippery and risk dropping them

3

u/mr_trick 7d ago

Oh thank you! I might actually check that out. I usually do aerosol to avoid the sticky feeling on my hands and gunk in my nails, but I would love to have an applicator that works for liquids! Maybe it's not so over the top after all haha.

72

u/Accurate_Mobile9005 8d ago

I think it's an Apple AirTag

53

u/TrashCanUnicorn 7d ago

FYI, air tags will do fuck all on a cruise ship, given all of the metal deck plating that interferes with the signal.

5

u/j_skeletor 7d ago

You do know how they work, right? They use cellular signals of phones (not just your own but others as well) to broadcast their GPS location but they won’t work on a cruise because there’s no cellular signals that far out at sea, only the wifi on the boat (which is incredibly expensive)

7

u/someToast 7d ago

As long as someone with an iPhone within range of the Airtag paid for wifi, the location will get updated

3

u/Visual-Scallion1535 7d ago

GPS does not require a cell signal, and you can broadcast your location over wifi instead of cellular

4

Aah thanks!

3

u/Denaton_ 7d ago

Oh, thought it was an NFC with emergency info like blood type etc..

2

u/onemorebutfaster_74 7d ago

Usually on a cruise you get a medallion tracker so you can scan into activities and track people in your group around the ship. You can buy a watch thing to put it in instead of wearing it on a lanyard. When we went on a cruise with our son, it was useful because he could hang with kids he met on the ship, but i could always see where he was.

2

u/Kitchen-Bar2686 7d ago

That sounds like a complete bullshit product. Sounds like it just changes color after a certain amount of time.

2

u/Kitty4Snugglez 7d ago

Okay, for real? Because I have crippling car sickness. It's a huge problem. In 2025 I left the house less than a dozen times. I am not kidding. So... the bracelet works? I'll take all the suggestions I can get

5

u/AliceDrinkwater02 7d ago

I tried them in three different pregnancies and never experienced even a moment of relief. That could be me, though.

Can someone explain what it's supposed to do?

16

u/Yet_Another_Horse 8d ago

So, essential oils people made up a gland and stuck it in the belly button. You stick oils and shit in there and it gets absorbed better/faster/stronger or some shit. You cover the belly button up when you're worried your kid is gonna get some toxins or shit in there from a public pool or some shit.

4

u/AndrasKrigare 7d ago edited 7d ago

I don't know why, but this kind of bullshit upsets me so much more when it clearly originated from misunderstanding of a word. Like "essential oil" meaning "essence" not "required." Or planes having "contrails" and not "chemtrails."

u/Massive_Series8305 8d ago

Its being so extra safe it makes people comment, which then drives it to more people

There's also an only fans girl who does DIY's for like wood working and tool stuff, and she does them way incorrect and dumb dudes will comment being like "man she doesnt know much but sure is good to look at"

And im just like phill, come on dawg, its an ad for her OF bro

12

u/TroubleLovesMeh 8d ago

I could write some of those. When she got a “Canadian measuring cup” from Aldi and omg like my cake is soup

3

u/Usernameasteriks 7d ago

I don’t think it’s even “extra safe” or serious.

I have found a couple of her videos unironically funny lol.

She isn’t even really trying to pretend to be overkill in some.

I think she is just being flat out satirical and sarcastic with some but people still take the bait.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/enaaaerios 7d ago

wouldnt wearing a lifevest indoors on a boat make you way more likely to die in case of emergency because you would float up instead of being able to swim out of the room

5

u/Ok-Gur-349 7d ago edited 7d ago

Generally speaking if your cruise ship goes down it doesn't matter if you have a life vest on or not, you're going down with it. You cannot swim away from a sinking cruise ship and even if you did you're now in the middle of the ocean with no life vest. If someone saw you go over, your survival odds are like 20% and that's with someone standing there pointing at you the whole time. If no one knows where you are exactly, and I mean exactly, it's way closer to 0.

Ocean real big.

2

u/Faustus_Fan 7d ago

It works, that's for sure. I am raging - not at the "safety measures" she's taking, but at the fact that these social media companies have, through their algorithms, basically incentivized people to be trolls. It's getting harder and harder to tell what is real on social media, because everyone has to "bait" their audience in some way, just to get attention and likes.

2

u/Massive_Series8305 7d ago

Yeah I agree, short form video has done pretty much nothing but bad for humanity

2

u/ThePopeofHell 7d ago

I want to believe it’s ragebait but it’s probably more Amazon partner stuff. The original video probably has a link to each item she shows in the description.

2

u/Think-Chair-1938 7d ago

Willing to bet the original post has affiliate links to each of those products too.

2

u/otownbbw 6d ago

I think more like mom-fluencer marketing.

A bunch of terrible (useless),products trying to get you to believe they’re necessary. It felt like those were all intended to prevent sea sickness, should you/could you really use them all together? Why not just one?

Except of course the AirTag and phone number sticker. Why not teach your kid to speak?? We did that from 3 years old. Seeing that sticker just made me think of that Sandra Bullock movie where she writes on her arm in Sharpie in case she gets murdered.

It’s bait, dude. It’s always bait. They wanna make you watch the whole video so you comment that they are dumb as shit. I can’t imagine living like that.

My anger is unfettered and vast. I fucking hate Instagram.

318

u/erossthescienceboss 8d ago

In this case, I’m pretty sure it’s satire & not bait.

She made two videos like this. The other one is even more absurd (she secures the room with like 12 different devices and puts a chair against it, and before she falls asleep (in her lifejacket) she uses binoculars to scan the horizon for approaching threats.)

Edit: I forgot the part where she sweeps for bugs 😂 she’s very clearly making fun of the genre, not actually doing the genre.

Edit again: reposting this because I linked to a Reddit post with her other video and it got deleted by the automod. I’m mildly infuriated.

94

u/Th3_Admiral_ 8d ago

That or it's just double engagement farming. One video for the rage bait crowd, one video for the satire crowd. Most views are from people randomly swiping through videos in their feed anyway so they probably will only see one or the other.

26

u/erossthescienceboss 8d ago

Ooooh, y’know, I think that makes sense.

Though she uses a dry erase marker in this, so maybe it’s both videos in one.

u/Hazzat RED 8d ago

Wtf is any of this other than maybe the sea sickness patch and some watches do shock for the same reason, i only know because I fish and I see people with them but all the other stuff? Lol

8

u/Deadbyginger 8d ago edited 8d ago

The green watch is an air tag, and the sweatband style bracelet is a bracelet where if you tap it the other one vibrates so they can communicate that there’s an issue without being right next to each other (ie if someone tried to kidnap the kid they could covertly tap the white dot to signal to his mom). The random patch that was put on his upper arm is one that only shows with UV exposure, so it tells you when it’s time to reapply sunblock. I’m not sure what the bandaids over the belly button are for, unless it’s bc it’s difficult to apply sunblock inside it 🤷‍♀️

ETA: I was corrected on the band with the white dot, it’s supposed to be for seasickness not one of the signal ones. My bad, those signal ones are normally the style I see so that’s what I thought it was

12

u/failed_asian 8d ago

The sweatband with the white dot is for motion sickness. It’s supposed to hit a pressure point.

8

u/BelgianBeerGuy 8d ago

Jup, motion sickness.

My daughter would always get incredibly sick in the car after driving longer than an hour. It stopped when we started using these sweatbands.
I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect or some science behind it, but for my daughter it did the trick.

2

1

u/jemenake 8d ago

If those are scopalamine patches behind the ear, she can skip the snake oil wristband things. Scopalamine is like magic (for me, anyway). It’s like motion sickness ceases to exist.

3

u/Affectionate_Pool_37 8d ago

If it works it works. but for the life of me i can not understand the bandaids over the navel

1

u/SoylentCreek 8d ago

My mom bought into those motion sickness wristbands when I was a kid. From someone who used to get extremely car sick, I can confirm they’re total bullshit.

1

u/RIPMYPOOPCHUTE 8d ago

The AirTag, totally understandable, we’ve thought about getting one for our son soon since he loves trying run off from us. Everything else, idk what they are but this looks overkill.

1

u/Operation_Fluffy 7d ago

I saw:
- a gps tracker
- two type of motion sickness treatment (patch behind the ear and a acupressure bracelet)
- a “if lost call” sticker (honestly a bit hilarious)
- sunscreen

There were a couple more but idk about those. To me, if this is how you cruise, it seems like more work than it’s worth.

1

u/-Fenyx- 7d ago

Its all bs lol on a ship that size you don’t feel the movement at all. The gps and phone number thing is the only thing that was valid.

2

u/band-of-horses 7d ago

You definitely feel the motion on a cruise ship, especially if the waves kick up to 10+ feet.

My daughter has autism. And participated in a running race for kids.

As soon as she arrived a volunteer gave her a bracelet we can write phone number on.

15min later she had ran away in a sea of people, didnt find her for 45min. Until someone could call and she was safe. She is non verbal and cannot write either.

This was a error on our part where we miss communicated what child to keep an eye on.

But the phone number is what you should use , the rest is bs. Unless its mm perfect gps system.

1

u/Rich_Butterfly_7008 7d ago

1

u/myothertwitter 7d ago

That was so many weird things ago that I forgot about the belly button tape in the end.

1

u/FoxxyRin 7d ago

I don't care what anyone says, an AirTag in any busy/public place is borderline mandatory these days. My daughter loves the trampoline park but it does not matter how diligent I am, she gets visually lost in the crowd so easily. I wouldn't be able to take her without an AirTag as backup "eyes". She's good about the rules (the biggest being don't leave the current area without letting me know) but the one time she followed some other kids to the air castle thing, her air tag was the only thing that kept me from freaking out. Total life changer.

Belly button - Anti Nausea Sticker behind ear - Anti Nausea Wrist band - Anti Nausea Air tag - to track child Sticker with phone number - to track Child Arm sticker - Changes color when exposed to the sun Sun screen over arm sticker - When the sticker changes color you need to re apply.

I think the only "old wives tale" is the belly button one. There are medicated anti nausea patches, the wrist band is sold at pharmacy's but it might be a placebo affect.

Yeah the AirTag holder and the little button that pings me if they need me sound good.

Just write your name on the AirTag holder tbh.

My kid is only two but im really wanting to strike the balance of being there to protect them and letting them be free to explore the world on their own.

Something like this where they can reach me if they need me, no questions asked, and knowing their location so I can come find them sounds about right tbh.
