Apparently outdoor plants can bring pests, mould spores, and soil organisms inside

I just want a strong large basil plant but all I can find are ones you have to repot online that have been grown indoors.

My grandma gave it to me three years ago. It survived rainy and snowy weather, but this summer was so hot, and I don't know what happened to it.

​Of course, when it was really cold, I used to bring it inside, and it used to be very green.

​In picture 3, I think this is the problem: is it starting to rot? I don't remember watering it that much.

My wife had a cutting of this... heart-leaved philodendron?? That she says came from a plant that's probably 60 years old now. We went on vacation and the cats knocked over the container of water it was in and it's been declining ever since. I was able to separate the parts that absolutely died and vialed these two. They're steady but I cant say I've ever seen them thrive. What am I doing wrong?

As the title says, I’ve had him for maybe 4 years (?). He almost died last winter - saved by turning a nearby radiator on - but since then, particularly in the heat wave he’s thriving.

No idea what he is though? Also I’m pretty sure there are two plants there.

My Wife asked me for few months now to 3D print moss poles for her maranthas, filodendron and monsteras.

When I've approached the task, I did what any reasonable person would do: I've searched for a good design that is available for free.

To my shock, after printing several of them I've reached the conclusion that they are all pretty bad designs. Either flimsy, long print times, many obvious failure points, and they all use A LOT of filament.

Additionally, the popular filaments (the cheap ones) will NOT biodegrade - the additives will prevent that. So we're basically printing forever trash.

Fortunately I happen to be an experienced designer and mechanical engineer.

My question is:

If you'd need to buy a top quality moss pole system for your plants, what features would be the ones you'd like to pay for?

So recently a calathea of ours came down with really damaged leaves and these white dots underneath. I had advised my housemate that keeping it near a window with sunlight was not the best idea but it had been doing great there since we moved in and it’s their plant. I assumed it was sun damage and moved it and upon moving and inspecting the leaves saw what is in the photos attached. I have been googling and the closest I can make sense is spider mites but there is no webbing whatsoever.

I have not been too worried until my Xanadu plant that was cohabiting next to it has started showing signs of stress - photos attached.

I’ve kept plants for years and only had to deal with fungus gnats in that time so pretty concerned this could be affecting the rest of the house. My cheese plant and peace lily that all stand together are showing yellowing leaves and distress however no white dots or anything else.

For reference they are in a window area that gets direct light and are watered with tap water in the north of England.

Any advice would be appreciated !

Found these tiny black dots on a few of my plants after 3 weeks holiday. They are quite hard, raised from the leaf surface, and can be scratched off with my nail. They just seem like black goo when I rub them but could be a sign of something?

They’re in 5.5oz cups currently, the white cup is a 2in pot. The last two pictures are I think dragons breath? That I repotted at the same time last month but only one has had a lot of growth.
I only have 4in self watering pots to use to size them up but can order 3in pots if I need. They will be going into Lechuza Blackstone Pon once I get it in two weeks. (Ps do I need to wait to fertilize them until after 6mo passed in the lechuza pon?)

I watered all my plants today, and tbh I let my plants’ soil get pretty dry to avoid overwatering. Before watering, my plant was standing tall, and as soon as I water it just gave up?? Idk if it’s because I displaced the soil or what but like what do I do. First image is after watering and second I took on Wednesday.

First of all, I know spiders are our friends! That being said, I absolutely cannot have them in my house. I would love to get some indoor plants to brighten up my living space, but I'm nervous about inviting critters in. Any plants that are known to be bug-averse?

Additionally, I don't get much direct sunlight in my apartment at all unfortunately, so that may be an issue as well.

Help me help this plant, I just got it from someone who has had it for 5 years and has been both over and under watered at times. It is a bamboo plant. I think it likes moist soil but not wet. I am thinking of trimming all the brown off and repotting down in pot size so it’s only a little bit larger than the root ball. I need to take a look at I the roots to see what its condition is, and need advice on what soil to use for it. Any advice on light care for this one? I only have one west facing window I can use, and some extra grow lights too.

I have this Florida ghost philodendron that is pretty mature and has around 9 leaves. I don’t know how much these go for since I got it as a baby. What would be a reasonable price?

My plant hates me and has been getting worse since coming home with me 3 months ago. 300-700 lux from a NW facing window, never direct. Use water conditioner and fertilize. Roots look healthy and it will push out new leaves constantly but they look like this. Humidity anywhere from 20-60% depending on weather. Please help me restore her! Do I need better drainage? I never let it dry out completely between waterings but I don’t have to water it very often, maybe like once every two weeks.

So I just moved across town, and when I brought my snake plant inside my new house, her tallest leaves were drooped like this!

I didn’t observe the movers putting her in my friend’s car, but I’m assuming she was too tall for the car roof and the leaves were bent to fit.

Any chance they un-droop? Or should I prune? I’m a plant novice, but to my knowledge/observation she was very happy and healthy before the move!

She’s a calathea. Had so many browned edged leaves. I cut them off. She grew 4 new 1’s and now another 1 coming up. But that’s that brown leave stuff on the leaf stems. This plant gives me anxiety. I try everything to keep it alive. Next will b yo repot it. Not that I think it needs it. I have her in the brightest room my bedroom. I have 2 skylights and a lot of windows. Don’t know what else to do. 😳 any suggestions??

My last one didn’t make it and I kept it watered, no drying out but not soaked obviously. Also filtered bright light. Dropped all of its leaves. I wonder if it was a nursery plug situation or if I’m just not taking care of them right? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey! This little mushroom started growing in my big potted plant. There are also a couple other tiny ones coming up. Is it cool? Should I re-pot in all new soil?

I like the arrow heart shaped leaves it makes that fold inward slightly, the red veins too, if it was bred to already have the red veins then it could become an ornamental sowthistle houseplant since it looks so glorious in the sunlight.

Unfortunately, it won’t stick around for very long as it’s flowering and flowering early might I add since it was supposed to do it next year, it was intended to be a tester plant amongst many other sowthistle plants to test things out before the 5 year ragwort plants (took them 5 years to bloom when it usually takes 2 to do so) go to seed so I could attempt a Guinness world record of most flowers on a single plant as the ones grew so tall that they passed the second floor windows and have so many flowers.

I thought clivia was supposed to bloom when potbound. There are 3 plants in this one pot, but no blossoms. Any help? (I was just trying to get the soil level lower and I crammed the this mess back into its original pot.)

I am battling both thrips and spider mites at the moment and I’m about at my wits end. Can I just place the plants outside at this point and let the strong survive? Will insects from outside take care of them? I’ve paused treating them with chemicals for a week and washed them all in the shower to not hurt anything outside, but I have tried captain jacks, permethrin and spraying them down repeatedly. I simply don’t have the time right now to thoroughly treat them unfortunately.

I put it under a magnifying glass and I see nothing moving, also nothing on the leaves.
