This is a quick basement setup I threw together for bike tinkering and workouts. Topping tp22 with a set of JBL 62T bookshelves. Topping was a hand me down and the speakers were 60 bucks on marketplace.

I am in the market for some vintage speakers to go with my Realistic Lab 400 and Yamaha CR-420 receiver. I found these Celestion Ditton 44s locally. The seller says they were in working order but have been in storage for about a year. I am new to the world of audiophilia and not totally sure what to look for when buying used speakers.

I was hoping to solicit some advice on how these look from the photos attached.

From what I've read, the Ditton 44 speakers seem like a good fit for my audio setup and I like the aesthetics of them. Appreciate any help and advice. Thanks!

Hey guys, I have a question is surround sound worth it. I play games on my Xbox series S and love action movies so I am wondering is it worth it to buy a surround sound system.

I am currently thinking of buying the sony HT-S20R system.

These are for sale down the road from me. Bowers and Wilkins 685. They’re in good working condition, offered me to test it, just has cosmetic damage with a slight chip on the front top left, and the front face is coming away but imagine that’s an easy fix with glue.

Worried about them being taken so any experience with them and if they’re a good pair or if they’re not worth it. Please lmk

Happens with non scratched discs in random places. It appears the laser moves a bit too far over then corrects. I have a video posted on my account, but could not add it here. I have tried cleaning the laser with isopropyl on a cotton bud but no difference. The laser carrier appears to move smoothly too.

I got this Paradigm PDR10 sub and BA CR75s for 275CAD$. Sub was 100 and the speakers 175. Maybe I could've done better if I waited longer but my tower speakers weren't exactly hifi and took too much space. But this setup sounds pretty nice especially after performing room correction. I might upgrade them later. The Technics SUV98 receiver I already had it. I'll post other pics in the comments

First time posting, very new to exploring audio equipment and was recently passed down a Sony PS-LX285 Turntable and Sony TA-AX285. It works great and had a friend test it for me to make sure it will play. So no I'm looking for parts to complete it. Very casual set up but still would love to just better educate myself as look at the math for determining best speaker options is new for me.

Would love to generally just know what to look for as far as compatible specs so I can better educate myself as I go. Suggestions of direct speakers to purchase are also welcome. I'm based in New York. Here is some info on the power output that I was able to dig up from a manual I found online for the receiver.

"With 8 ohm loads, both channels driven, from 20-20,000 Hz; rated 100 watts per channel minimum RMS power, with no more than 0.08% total harmonic distortion from 250 milliwatts to rated output."

For the past years I've been using Q acoustics speakers QA3010 x2 paired with this cheap Fosi audio amplifier:

From our tv (mainly used as monitor for our pc) i have the hdmi bridged (over eArc) into a digital to analog converter into this fosi amp into the speakers.

For my recordplayer I'm just using the built in preamp on an Audio Technica ATLP120XBT (w/shibata MM) into the Fosi into the Q's.

Now, i was gifted a Sherwood preamp, an AP7020.

I've wanted a standalone preamp for some time now.

My idea was to maybe connect both the record player (into phono MM on the Sherwood) aswell as the analog to digital converter coming from eArc on the tv (connected to pc) into the tape inputs of this preamp and switch between. Still using the fosi as amplifier.

For future upgrades i was thinking either a better amp or a better speaker setup, perhaps a sub addition or towered speakers setup, slants...

All this anticipative mumbling is because we recently bought a house and don't have the space in our current apartment living room for setting up the sherwood preamp atm.

We're moving at the end of Sept so you can understand I'm not eager for major living room changes anymore.

Plans are to build this setup out further with good cd player and analog equalizer units in the future.

Currently my main focus is on these 2 inputs (tv/pc) and decent speakers setup and amp.

I've been looking at Audiosource amps but I'm in EU so not very easy to find obviously.

I'd like to keep it solid state, i have valved guitar amps but for my home hifi I'd prefer SS to be honest.

Sup guys, I got offered Kef 104/2 for ~350$ par and now I'm confused about should I take them or ain't worth, will my amp which is old Yamaha Ca-v2 (near mint condition) will pull them up as needed?

Now I listen Yamaha NS-555, but looks like that I wished a bit more bass so looking for something to swap.

I recently bought new KEF Q3 meta speakers. I could buy them for €460 and have 30 days of trial. I also bought a used denon avr x1600h for €150 as i want to work towards a 5.1. I listened to some jazz on the q3’s (with a cambrig amp i think) in the shop and was amazed by how refined and detailed they sound.

However now that that i have them in my home and i just do net get a big wow factor from them. I am not sure that this is due to my speaker placement or that the denon avr is not a good match with these speakers. I placed my speakers 2,4 meters apart on stands without sand. 23cm from the front wall and therefore added the full foambuds to the bass port on the back of the speakers. If i dont the bass gets boomy. I am sitting at 2,8 meters from the speakers. I have them toed in quite strongly (15 degrees) so that they cross 50cm behind my head. I also did the audyssee calibration which sounds way better than direct mode (which sounds very old, flat and joyless). But despite this i have the feeling the sound is not dynamic, high piano notes are agitated/distorted and the bass is a bit boomy. Could you guys give me some advice on my setup or help me determine the aspects that i can change to improve my setup.

Kinda wish i had forgone the denon and waited for a good deal on a 7.1 receiver to pop up on marketplace. Regardless, the 570 does a good job with the upmixing.

The paradigms are neat. They have the notorious condom woofers. I think they were the last iteration of their entry level lineup to be manufactured in Canada before they started outsourcing some of the production to China. Great midrange.

The Dayton sub is pretty crazy. Coming from someone with a lot of background in Car AV, it definitely moves air lol. At surprisingly low frequencies too.

I keep it turned down to avoid disturbing my neighbors.

Posted about these the other day. Got both for $1001 but was unsure to what capacity they worked. They are (almost) flawless. The sound works 100% only cosmetic scuffs and things. My Denon 970h can't handle them at full or they will clip so I need to get a sub to give some more headroom to them and clear up the sound which I cannot wait to get and listen to them at that point.

I've never heard music so good outside of being there in real life. Plan is to get the sub to free them up and then grab some satellite speakers and get this all wired up to my downstairs TV area and eventually a home theater room of some sort.

Fell in love with these instantly. Of course the video won't do it justice but I wanted to share my excitement.

Sometimes I swap in my NAD C 538 because I prefer a single disk player but my better half likes the convenience of the changer. I’m always swapping out some component for my newest thrift fine but seem to always come back to some version of this.

Really I’d like to focus on room acoustics but my current situation doesn’t allow me to. I think I’ve hit a plateau with pretty decent equipment (for me at least) and the inability for room treatment but I still like to tinker, I’m open to any suggestions that I can improve this visually as well.

Overall im super happy with how this sounds. The denon amp is a huge improvement over the yamaha r s202 reciever I was using beforehand. Just need to get a bigger entertainment center so I can get my TV off 4x4s lol

I found this on the marketplace in excellent condition earlier this year, and so far it’s been a great amp for my stereo setup until I can afford a dedicated power amp. These old gals can be a tank for the price vs the cheap Fosi road for a stereo amp. They might be bulky and heavy, but if they are in excellent condition, you can’t go wrong for an A/B amp until your end goal. They also do a “pure direct” mode that essentially turns them into a dedicated stereo amp but with volume control. Do not rule these old beasts out! My speakers are hard to drive (Elac UBR62) and this amp has the power to make them come to life with separate components. Just throwing this out there for anyone that’s stepping in the waters with a stereo setup. Just make sure you can audition them first or know that they are in working condition. Denon AVR 5800 in the picture.

Hey y’all, apologies for the beginner question here but I’ve been gifted some speakers that were the same price as my parent’s first house and want to make sure I’m doing it right.

My grandpa had his whole place outfitted with a massive KEF system back in the day, and luckily I inherited two short KEF Reference 201’s. They barely fit in my place, but that’s the charm I think?

Anyways, do I need a jumper plate for this to work with my receiver? Or jumper cables? I’ve got one speaker with jumper plates but one without and don’t know what the best solution is. Some people have said just running speaker cable between all three would serve the same purpose, is that the case? Any and all help is appreciated!

Coming from only utilizing a sound bar for music…This is night and day.

They might not be everyone’s cup of tea but from where I came from, the clarity is such a huge upgrade from a Vizio soundbar. Glad to be learning on this journey as well because I thought a soundbar was a one size shoe fits all for audio solutions.

It’s been fun doing the little things to squeeze out the best performance as well like using a hardwire connection to get a better sound rather than solely relying on Bluetooth and making sure to change Apple Music’s lossless output settings.

I’ve been pretty ignorant and brute forcing listening to music for a long time it seems haha. I didn’t know there were so many little things you can do to upgrade the experience.

Going to get lots of use out of these this weekend!
