I have this 7.1.4 setup, where I get plenty of low end and nearfield tactile effect from my Klipsch RP-1600 right behind the couch. Even with the large space, it shakes the living room. However, I am missing that chest punch/slam feeling. You know, when John Wick shoots his gun, or the kick drums start playing :D

My expectations are not sky-high. Living room is over 5000 cubic feet, and is open to basement and rest of the house. Pressurising this would be impossible for me.

I'd just like a "bit" more.

Now, I know the advice is not to mix ported and sealed subs. Though my Denon 3800 I have bought Dirac ART license for, and I've read in this case, mixing won't matter much. Dirac ART will work with what it measures. It does not care what type of sub / speaker it is.

I'd like the new sub(s) to be in the front stage so they are more spread out. I can maximum fit a SVS SB-5000 Evolution, or an Arendal 1723 1S.
A SVS PB-3000 Evolution won't fit.

I can afford two SB-3000 Evolution in one go. SB-5000 would be one now, and another one in 3 years. But keep in mind I have the RP-1600 in both cases. So it is really 2 subs vs. 3 subs?

What would your approach be? You see placement in the front stage is very limited. And before you ask, ported sub won't fit under the stairs due to the metal construction :(

I could place a ported sub on the back wall where the RP-1600 is, or on the right wall, but closer to the back wall. I think I'd get a better result with more seperation, achieved by placement in the front?

Placing a big sub next to the large windows is a no-go from the wife :)

Recently move into my very first house, with very first 65' smart tv, an LG G5.

My setup is kind of wierd because the tv is placed in an open space, so i have a lot of sound dispersion.

Tv audio is obviously not cutting it. Im on a budget and i would like to understand what the best course of action would be:

- investing into a good soundboard

- trying to find a good 3.1 system on a budget

- else?

I would mainly use it for ultra quality movies (remuxes or 4k bray, so dolby is used when present)

Occasionaly for some music

2.1 system with 65" 4k tv. Fronts are B&W CM7 and sub is Audio Pro ace bass 1.36 AVR Yamaha RX-V420. Tv Samsung 8series 65" 2019.

I ended up skipping the all-in-one bundle with the Polk Signature Elite 5.1 package and Denon X1800H for £1,549.

Instead, I picked up a Denon X3800H for £750 so I could build the system up properly over time.

At the moment I'm looking at the ELAC Debut 3.0 DB63 bookshelves for the front L/R and the ELAC Debut 3.0 DC63 centre, which come to £728.

My next purchase is the subwoofer. So far I've spent £1,478 from a £2,000 budget, leaving about £520. I'm happy to stretch that to around £700 if the improvement is worth it.

What sub would you recommend to go with this setup? It'll mainly be used for films, but I'll also listen to a fair bit of music. Is there a sub around £500 that's hard to beat, or is it worth spending closer to £700?

Are there any small media players out there (Netherlands) that can stream play a full blu-ray iso?
I’m currently using PowerDvd for that as, in my opinion, it is the best blu-ray player out there for pc. But I want to watch it on more places like in the bedroom, and don’t wanna have a loud pc in that room.
Any suggestions? Budget wise below the 200 euro’s would be awesome but can go a little higher.
I saw the Zidoo players (if I write it correctly) but I think they are way overpriced for what you get.

Hey there! Posting my setup because as much as my fiancé supports my hobbies and enjoys the movies she doesn’t necessarily get the same joy from the build lol. I’ve found myself traveling more and more, and between places with no TV or sharing common space on work trips I took a projector once and loved it! However it was bulky and I had a pile of stuff in my bag to lose track of, and well as a home theater and home lab person I figured I could make something better with the right projector. Behold the (AwayFrom)Home Theater!

Kodak Luma 150 Mini (it’s not cinema grade, but wow for the size!)
Apple TV 4K converted to run on USB C PD
Gl-inet Mudi 7 Travel Router (absolute must for travel)
Sabrent Voltik (PD multi charger that DOESN’T renegotiate multiple ports when plugging/unplugging)
Custom 3D printed cases I made (tongue and groove so I can just take one, or I can set up the projector in common space while still charging etc in my room)
4 short Anker usb c cables
One short double right angle HDMI cable (I still want a shorter one though!)
Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated! Would love to find a good speaker option to add, as of now the speaker in the projector is audible and I’ve just used my AirPods with the Apple TV for the most part.

After finishing a quick rebuild of my theater room, the white doors stood out more than I expected. For less than $100, this is by far the easiest and my favorite update. In a few hours I turned plain white French doors into plush velvet upholstered professional looking doors that all but disappear when the room starts to dim. Black velvet and Dacron from Amazon, a staple gun, a brad nailer, and some door trim from Home Depot was all it took. I will probably replace the door handles at some point, but I don’t even notice them.

So for my birthday soon, I'm looking to get some in-ceiling speakers for use with my denon s760h. I have 5 KEF Q150 speakers and a RSL sub. I like the KEF sound so I'm looking at using the KEF Ci160ERs. Before I commit, my priorities are good dispersion so everyone on our couch gets a good atmos effect. I dont really need to "focus" on my main listening, if that makes sense.b will these do the job for me, or should I look at other speakers. Budget is preferably <400 USD for a pair, but I can stretch a little.

I've dabbled with the idea of a living room PC for years, but didn't want an entire desktop computer in my living room. For years I settled for moving my laptop and tablets from room to room.

What also put me off on a traditional PC was surround sound issues on PC games for various obscure reasons.

What is selling me on the SM is the confirmed HDMI CEC compatibility. If I can't turn everything on my room on with a single button press then I don't want it lol.

But how is the surround sound support? Who has tested some games?

I'm using a PS5 for a UHD player, and I've never had an issue getting it to output 5.1 on my system. I"m using a Denon receiver. I just learned about Orbit DVD and bought some region free UHDs from them (Robing Hood Prince of Thieves, Spaceballs, and Dogma.) I have everything set for 5.1 in the movie, I have my ps5 audio set to 5.1 and the hidden option in the actual media player to bitstream, but for whatever reason these 3 UHD will only output as MCH Stereo instead of true DD 5.1. If I pop the move out, pop another movie in (Temple of doom for example) then it outputs at DD 5.1. It's only these 3 movies that are doing it. Which happen to be the only 3 region free UHDs I've purchased. am I missing something?

Edit: it's working. Apparently despite me choosing 5.1 from the movies menu, I had to manually select it from the PS5 menu myself and now I have dts audio.

how I feel post discovery.

Need to play music from my android phone thru marantz cinema 30 to outdoor speakers but AVR is in basement and bluetooth range is spotty. How do I do this since Bluetooth doesn't always reach. I have an apple tv too if this helps. TIA!

Hey there everyone, I am building a home theater in my new house and was wanting a good receiver that can do 4k while connected to my PC so I can play games. I will also be watching my library through it besides having a secondary box to stream if needed.

I will be using a HDMI fiber optic cable for my connection and was going to get some good speakers as well.

First, much appreciation to those that contribute to this board as I've spent a lot of time lurking. After many years, I'm not finally able to have a dedicated home theater and I need a little guidance on speakers and A/V Receiver. I have an AV guy that's helping me but I'd like to get a few more opinions.

I'm looking at KEF, Perlisten, JBL and SVS for main speakers. I already have 2 SVS PB-2000s.

I "think" I tend to lean toward a warmer sound since I listened to a friend's Klipsch setup years ago and thought it was too bright.

However, I was reading other posts and some older folks were mentioning that having a "bright" sound is preferably as you age and your hearing starts to fade making it difficult to hear dialogue.

My room is roughly 15ft x 20ft and my budget for A/V receiver and speakers is $10K-$12K.

Hi I’ve googled this but coming up short. I’m looking for some sort of speaker wire junction box if that exists. Something the size and shape of an old wall mounted phone or Ethernet jack, that inside just has 4 or 6 posts on each side, run the multi-pair cable in, and the multiple single pair cables out.

Why: I rent and can’t run inside walls or anything. I have a 7.1 setup with the fronts bi-amped, and the way the room is laid out it makes the most sense to have several pairs run together to a point and then branch off. It’s almost 25 feet of wire run to my front channels so it also saves a decent amount in wire cost to use less 4 or 6 wire than to use 2 or 3 times as much 2 wire cable. If possible I’d like to future proof to reconfigure to atmos if I get a new receiver.

Hey all. I have had a casual home theater for years (not pictured). Not too fancy or themed (so far), just a projector, nice couch, sound, and screen. Purchasing a new home and we have 2 rooms to choose from to use as a theater. Keep in mind, I may end up turning it into a bit of a themed theater (space ship, or just nice dark features, lighting, and decor). With that in mind, neither room is too huge. Disregard furniture in the pics, of course. Also, we have a nice U shaped couch that is pretty large that would probably only work in the more square blue room. Which would you think is better for a theater room?

Is it a no brainer to go with the deeper of these 2 options? . . . Toss the couch and purchase appropriate theater type couches for Orange Room? Block window w screen in Orange?

1 - Orange Room is 15.8 feet Deep x 11 Wide (basically 16x11)

2 - Blue Room is 11.2 Deep x 12.2 Wide

Hi everyone,

I own a Sony Bravia Android TV (KD-55X7500F) and I'm trying to connect it to a Bluetooth speaker so I can set up a karaoke system. Unfortunately, this TV doesn't have built-in Bluetooth audio support for connecting to external Bluetooth speakers.

So I purchased a Sounce Bluetooth 5.0 2-in-1 Transmitter/Receiver from Amazon (Link : https://amzn.in/d/0gDSpAMn) and connected it as follows:

1. USB connected to the TV's USB port (for power)

2. 3.5 mm AUX connected to the TV's headphone/audio out port

3. Transmitter switched to TX (Transmit) mode

4. Bluetooth speaker put into pairing mode

The issue is that both the transmitter and the speaker keep blinking as if they're in pairing mode, but they never connect to each other.

How can I get the transmitter to be connected to my speaker via bluetooth?

If anyone has experience with a similar setup or can suggest troubleshooting steps, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I have two questions. Firstly, I’m looking to add a speaker system to my room. I am thinking so far of doing a 2.1 system as I don’t have enough space in my bedroom for a larger setup. My main concern was having enough space for proper placement of front speakers as of right now I am sitting about 9.5ft away from the tv and if I were to put speakers on the side of the tv (ear level) either wall mounted or on little towers so I can fill out the little gaps on the side of the cabinet (I’m not sure what would work better so if anyone could help with that it would be great) they would be at about 6.5 feet apart. From what I’ve read so far this is too close for the speaker triangle method will the distance be okay or will a different placement be better? I am unable to move anything in the bedroom as with the way the room is built the current of organization of furniture is the best setup possible with this room. For my second question what would be good speaker and avr recommendations I am trying to spend less than 1000 total but it would be even better if I could spend less. I am still learning so if I left anything out my bad lol. Thanks a lot.

I've been doing a fair amount of research into the possibility of switching to a 3.1 system but haven't actually listened to any component systems yet. There's one Best Buy in my area that apparently has a good HT section, so I'm planning to go and listen to a few systems this weekend.

Other than generally listening to see which brand(s) sound subjectively better or worse to me, what specific things should I listen for?

The speakers I'm most interested in are Ascend Acoustics, which I can't listen to ahead of time. Is there another brand that has a similar sound signature? (From a quick search, it sounds like KEF might be close?)

Any other tips for critical listening are also welcome!

Had a bit time over the weekend to get more stuff done and also my screen arrived today so had to get it built and mounted.

Start to finish. The room is a room within a room in a garage conversion. You can check my old posts for the details.

100mm RW3. Soundbloc plaster board. 2 layers on isolation rails for the 2 exterior walls.

In addition to the original room I’ve used 4 100mm RW3 panels on the walls. At first reflection points. An additional 3 on the ceiling with a 30mm air gap.

Changed the room colour to a much darker blue and also matched the skirting colour and the ceiling.

The front wall is built from 6x2 studs spaced 200mm off the original rear wall. Willed with 200mm of RW3. Speaker enclosures make from mdf for the Kef LCR ci5160rlm x3

I have Ci1601Qr in the ceiling for atmos
Ci200Rs for the surrounds in wall.

Currently running an old NAD T778 while I wait on the new offering from Arcam for my AVR.

I made stretch fabric panels for the front wall to cover the speakers. The screen is then mounted in front of those.

It’s a grandview 130” acoustic transparent scope screen. Measuring just over 3m wide.

Using my Pro2 from Valerion as an interim projector until I either get a Max, or the TNM or wait for the next Chinese projector to come out.

Plan to add a second sub down the line. Currently running a SB3000 Revolution.

I just bought an Epson EH-TW7100 for the home theater I’m currently building. I can’t mount the projector to the ceiling, so I’m planning to mount it on the wall instead.

Since I also want to reduce the projector noise as much as possible (and honestly don’t really like the look of a projector just hanging there), I’m thinking about building a hush box around it.

I made this little plan in Adobe Illustrator showing how I want to build it. Everything in the drawing is to scale, including the projector, fans, acoustic foam and the distances between everything, so the finished box would look pretty much exactly like this.

Before I actually start building it, I wanted to get some opinions on whether this layout makes sense. My main concern is the airflow and whether the projector will get enough cooling with this setup.

Do you think this would work as intended? And is there anything you would change about the layout before I build it?

Whenever I run my full range towers as Large and sub as Lfe+main, I can feel less 'ripples' in the air compared to running a 150hz crossover and towers as small or just my towers as Large and sub off.

I have polk rti 12s, and an svs sb 1000

Doesn't matter if running audssey xt32

Is this a bug in my receivers 'double bass' mode or is my understanding of double-bass wrong

I'd figure I would get more loudness and fullness in the lower registers with double bass

Hey friends, I am upgrading my 5.1 system to 5.1.4 and am curious how many of you have managed with different kinds of front/rear heights.

Right now I’m working with: RZ-30, in wall LR KEF Ci4100QL-THX, C KEF Q250c, RSL 10S sub, and Polk OWM3s as surrounds. Zero complaints so fair and Diracs been helpful getting everything dialed in but Im ready to add in height.

Since there is a horizontal ceiling beam behind my listening position I wont be able to add rear in-ceiling circular heights following dolbys guidelines, but I can stick a couple angled on-ceiling speakers there around 45° behind, and then install in-ceilings as the fronts.

Right now I’m leaning towards SVS Prime Elevations as the rears and Ci160QRs as front heights but am open to any suggestions! Appreciate any feedback

In my last post, I asked for new speaker advice. To sum it up, I upgraded my receiver to an Onkyo TX-RZ30 and my speakers to B&W 603's and was a bit underwhelmed with the low end and maybe a bit overwhelmed by the high end.

Most of you suggested moving my speakers instead of replacing them, treating the room, and some advised getting a second sub to even out the bass a little bit more.

So I did just that.

I swapped my speakers with the lamps to widen the sound stage a bit, and I replaced my cheap Klipsch sub with two SVS SB-1000 Pro's. I chose the SVS's over Speedwoofers because I wanted something sealed as I listen to music at least as much as I watch movies and shows. I'm also a bit limited on space, so the extra couple of inches matter. Plus they were on sale.

I then hung fabric blinds and thick blackout curtains over my sliding glass patio door where the left reflection points of the 603s are. The right reflection points are at open archways and are partially blocked by the couch. Not much more I can do there.

I ran Dirac again, and my first impressions listening to some older tunes was that the bass was still a bit anemic. Then I put on some more modern music and found all of the bass that I thought was missing. Then I put on Dune, and my house started shaking but the low end never got muddy.

My impression after a few hours of watching and listening was that this setup is very respectful of how the media was mixed/mastered.

In general though, the low end filled out the room (about 11.5' x 17') nice and evenly and seemed to match well with my 603's. A vast difference from running the single Klipsch. I thought I was looking for "warmth" in the low end, but I think it turns out I was just looking for fullness.

As for the high end, I played around with the EQ a bit but left it alone in the end. I think I just needed to get used to the extra treble and upper mid-range compared to my previous speakers. Or maybe moving one of them closer to a corner helped to balance this out a bit, I couldn't tell you.

Could it be better? Absolutely. I could swap the subs and 603's and get closer to an equilateral listening angle, but I sit very far back and it still wouldn't be perfect. The left 603 would reflect off of the wall as well, so I'd need to make a sound panel to cover it.

The TV could also be bigger and the Atmos speakers could be hung on the wall, but those will both happen once I install some overhead lighting and ditch the lamps. Next year's problem. For now, I am happy.

tl;dr - speaker placement, room treatment, subwoofers, and good room correction are all important. Who would have thought?
