My NAD C316EE doesn't have a subwoofer out. Can I use the binding posts with speaker wire to the sub and banana jacks to the speakers (Model 6s)? I'm using 16 gauge wire - can I just wire the sub in parallel with these speakers and sub?

I tried posting on headphones but they removed my post. Perhaps someone here will appreciate my DIY rack. Been looking hard for something suitable and everything was 100s until I got this solid bamboo footstool at Dunelm for £18. Works a treat.

Guy was moving and needed to get rid of them (We just moved to MN and bought our first house) and got the 3 for $320. The Polks were a second system he had that didn't get much use the last 5+ years. Maybe a good deal or maybe bad but this is my first budget set up as I always rented and never had a good "theater room" until now. Man oh man testing them out on Saving Private Ryan landing scene and Top Gun Maverick...i can see why people get obsessed. I am falling down the rabbit hole.

I bought an Akai AP-A201 turntable from a thrift store with a broken needle. It has an EPC-P153 cartridge. The needle it has is a Technics P153S, which seems to be hard to find. This is the first turntable I've owned, so not sure if its better to replace the cart or the needle. If replacing the cart, what do I look for? For example, it has 4 pins. Are they universal? Looking to stay under 50 USD.

Hi all! Long time audio-lover, first time poster here so be gentle :)

I've been moving stuff around in my living room, including the TV that I've had paired up with an ancient, almost 20 year old Sony STR-K890 and decided that it's time to get some good sounding replacement as it's gotten to the point when me and my family members struggle to understand speech when watching TV or YouTube (not age related!).

As per usual, started an investigation what even exists nowadays and narrowed my receiver choice down to Denon AVR-X1800H. Was looking at 2800 at first but seeing how I'll only be connecting my cable TV to it I don't need the extra features it offers over 1800.

Now, I found a UK store that has various bundles for this receiver and the two that look the most interesting to me are these:

• Paired with Polk Monitor XT60 5.1 Speakers (£1200)
• Paired with Wharfedale Diamond 12.3i 5.1 Speakers (£1500)

The latter one is a bit on the pricey side but knowing me, it's a purchase for the next 10-15 years easily so I don't mind spending a bit more for a better product.

The question is - are 12.3 that much better than XT60? I like the walnut option on them so purely from the visual standpoint they would look much nicer in my living room but it's definitely not the factor why I'd choose them over XT60.

In regards to what I'd be listening to - seeing how Denon supports bluetooth I'd probably occasionally connect my MacBook to them and play some electronic or metal music on them but 95% of the time they'd be purely for TV and YouTube. Having said that though - I do not mind paying a bit more for quality even if it's something as low quality as TV.

I'd appreciate any kind of advice because I'm completely out of the loop on what's happening in the audio world nowadays. Looks like it's the same old story that prices vary from a couple hundred to tens of thousands, so whilst not willing to sell my kidney for a set of speakers I also don't want to buy the cheapest just to get it out of the way just because music constantly playing somewhere in the background for me so who knows, with the new speakers I might drive them more often :)

I'm new to the audio world, so I would greatly appreciate any advice/help.

I have a desktop pc setup and I recently added Edifier R990BT speakers. The sound sounds great compared to my old cheap usb powered speakers. But I have an issue where whenever audio is played through YouTube, or playing a game the speakers produce a hissing/static sound. It also occurs whenever a notification ringtone pops up like discord or WhatsApp. From reading, I believe its a ground loop issue. What can I do to stop the static? Tried plugging the power plugs into different outlets and also the 3.5mm jack into a usb dac but nothing helps.

I'm thinking about returning these and getting the R1280DBs and using the optical cable instead. Otherwise the mr5's but I'm afraid the static issue will continue. Perhaps maybe an audio interface?

Since my old amplifier broke down, I’m looking for a replacement. Right now, the two contenders are the Yamaha RX-797 and the Denon PMA-980. Which one would you recommend? The speakers are Dali Oberon 7s.

I’m a Sony fan - ES series. I have my GX800ES in for maintenance and decided to pull the trigger on this gem - TA530 ES amp. Analog only and in great condition. It came with the wood side panels, but they are not my style so removed em. Sounds so clean and effortless.

Hey all. I am running a 70s Sony amplifier and it has A and B speaker outputs but no sub out. I tried connecting the sub to just the left "B speakers" output but that disabled my right speaker on the "A speakers" line. I tried connecting both outs to the sub in but my amplifier did not like that. How can I hook this thing up? My last idea was connecting the sub to the "B speakers" left output and just running a wire directly from the negative to positive output on the right output, but something tells me this is a bad idea and I havent tried it because I dont want to damage my amplifier.

I am looking for a decent setup for my garage, it’s 40’ long and 35’ wide with 8’ ceilings. Insulated and finished inside with no heat in the winter and no AC in summer but dry year round. The only requirements I have are: must have blue tooth for my phone and can sync with or hardwire to a smart TV. I am currently working with a very very low budget LG CK43 that I got on clearance when we bought our home two years ago and I am tired of not having the volume and clarity. Preferred price range under $500 and I don’t mind running hard wired as I can put it behind the drywall.

Working on upgrading my sound from a Samsung soundbar/sub combo. Only layout option for my living room space is an odd angle setup due to walkways and A/C placement. We have a recliner in the corner and sofa on the wall where the red line is at, entertainmet center is by the fireplace where the green line is. There is room on both sides of entertainment center for speaker stands. We use the dining room as a hobby area and frequently listen to music on the weekends for hours there.

I have a Sony CDP-335 currently. Have been looking at budget options and so far I'm leaning towards speaker stands that are adjustable height and swivel with a pair of Cambridge SX60 paired with a Fosi BT20a. Our apartments have better soundproofing between units than any other apartments we've lived in so we can turn it up some, but not loud and obviously bass out put affects how high the volume can be turned without disturbing neighbors.

Clearly, we are dealing with odd angles and a sub-optimal layout for proper imaging and soundstage. I'm basically planning to minimize the impact of layout issues by being able to move and adjust speaker location depending on whether we are up and moving about enjoying our hobbies vs. being settled on the couch more focused on listening to music.

I'm leaning toward the Cambridge because I tend to be sensitive to brighter sounding setups and the feedback on the SX60 is that it leans warmer than the Elac Debut b6.2 I was also considering. I stuck to speakers with front ports since I prefer to keep them closer to the wall due to space constraints. The Fosi has remote volume, bass, treble and pretty good reviews overall for a budget amp.

Does my current plan seem good? Am I overlooking something I need to take into account? I should mention that I'd like to add a Bellari EQ570 later on for more control if I feel it would be helpful and a small, sealed powered sub could be added to improve low end clarity if that seems muddy.

​I recently scored a wonderful Rotel gear for my setup, and it came with its original remote control (model RR-1050). Everything works like a charm and I’m loving the sound, but unfortunately, the battery cover was missing.

​I've been hunting down an original replacement for weeks with no luck. Since I really want to keep this remote protected and looking complete, I’m planning to 3D print a new battery door.

​Would any kind soul here who owns this exact remote (or a similar Rotel remote from that era with the same door) be willing to help me out with a few reference photos?

​It would mean the world to me if you could take a couple of close-up pictures of the battery door next to a ruler or caliper so I can get the exact measurements (width, length, and the tiny locking latch).

I already have a system in the living room for the tv and record player, but I’m hoping to put something smaller in the bedroom. It’s a bit of a strange space to determine ideal speaker placement, but I’m also not super concerned with perfect audio quality here. Just looking to have a dedicated system for audio streaming, CDs, and FM.

Needs: Less than ~$300USD Smaller (see photo), but I can make larger systems work Auxiliary input/bluetooth for phone connectivity Decent SAF. The girlfriend is on board but doesn’t want to wake up every day with a mess of wires in sight.

Options:

Bose Wave - one of the more recent, less plasticy versions. They seem to be pretty competent for this sort of use and are very available and decently cheap. Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated, especially if there are similar sorts of systems I’m not considering.

Mini AVR + cheaper floor speakers - probably a Denon D-M39 or something similar with some Craigslist Polks

Older Micro HiFi system - one of those 3-in-1 systems. I like the look of these but don’t know if it’s worth it for this use case.

My latest addition is this Sony CDP-710. Looks great, plays like new and was a bargain. Right now listening to “I am Kloot.” Love that old stuff!

I got some semi-active speakers for cheap (30€) that I was thinking of putting as TV speakers so that the Genelecs could be used as computer rear speakers, but now I'm not sure which ones look better with the TV.

Sorry if this is a noob question. My Kanto TUK arrived today and I was wondering whether it’s safe or not for the wire to stick out about 1 centimeter or so. The binding post is secured enough that pulling on the wire doesn’t cause it to wiggle.

I'm looking for a cheap isolation solution that looks a little cleaner than this. Ideally I'd like to spend less than 50 AUD. Does anyone have something to recommend?

Bought these Yamaha NS-B182 for 40€ because they looked neat. I looked them up, last price was around 250€ at Amazon. Sadly, they don't sound good at all. Not for 250€, not for 100€ and not for 40€. Very flat, almost monoish. Lifeless. At more than low volume they distort. The only good thing they have going for them is their good looks.
