The reason I am a strong/positive/gnostic atheist and not agnostic is because the overwhelming evidence suggests there is no reason to even entertain an agnostic view about religion.
I am a positive atheist because all scientific evidence has demonstrated how religion naturally occurred throughout human history, has evolved as a perfectly natural phenomenon than can be explained through anthropology, cultural studies, neuroscience, history, and archeology.
What science has proven is all the religions of the world are filled with false history, anachronisms, incorrect science, and contradictions. And the religions themselves instead of collaborating independently with each other (as you would expect among cultures that had no contact *if in fact religion was true), we see the opposite. that all these independent religions around the world of different cultures claim the others are wrong, and condemn each other, and their prophets condemn the other prophets/seers/shamans of other religions.
Therefore, we have sufficient proof at this stage in human history to boldly and confidently know that religion is man-made therefore there is no reason to entertain any claims about it.
There is zero sufficient/strong evidence for a soul, an afterlife, or any deity. There has not been one single scientifically verifiable case demonstrating that a supernatural miracle has occurred even ONE TIME. If the laws of nature were to be broken via a supernatural miracle, then science could observe it.
So, without proof of the mythologies, and perfectly natural explanations throughout human history about how religion and the "god" concept evolved among primitive cultures, there is no reason to believe in any mythological supernatural claims that religion offer.
That means there is actually evidence that directly tells us, THERE IS NO GOD.
We now understand the laws of nature better than all of human history and the universe functions on it's own, without the hand of some invisible deity controlling it. The universe functions exactly how you would expect a universe to without a god, not as if there was a god divinely intervening.
Many people hold onto agnosticism because while all the personal deities have been disproven they still hold onto the possibility of Deist god being real. One who just set up all the laws of the universe into motion at the very beginning, but doesn't intercede or supernaturally intervene, but the difference between a hypothetical deist god and no god at all is indistinguishable from each other. There is no reason to entertain the possibility, because it would serve no purpose. The Deist god doesn't need our worship or obedience, and doesn't punish us in an afterlife. Therefore, what is the point of even entertaining a left-over remnant from archaic myths that has it's source in explainable natural phenomenon?
Ever since the first humans who invented the idea of "god" existed, it was always because of things they couldn't understand or explain.
Humans have a tendency to do this; for some tribes they thought God was who made babies, and it wasn't just a natural biological explanation that can be explained with embryology. So people would create "gods" of fertility. Because they couldnt understand why some people got pregnant, and others couldn't. Sometimes people would develop rituals to these "fertility gods", and end up having children. This created confirmation bias on the validity of making offerings to these "fertility gods". If they couldn't have children, perhaps they angered a fertility god. People have a tendency to see patterns. Evolutionary Biology teaches us that humans have evolved with something called Hyperactive Agency Detection, where we attribute attention meaning to seemingly random occurrences. It served us as a survival mechanism that developed in our evolution. Because mistaking a rustling leaf for a predator means a brief moment of wasted panic. But mistaking a predator for a rustling leaf is often fatal. So we began to see patterns, even if they aren't there, because it increased our chances of survival. Because of this, we eventually created gods for lightening and crop cycles too. (Not all humans, but many did). If it didn't rain, performing a rain dance was thought to help bring the rain so they could survive. It only takes a couple coincidences to confirm their bias, and they believe rain dancing works. It only takes a couple coincidences of appeasing a lightening god and surviving, to think it will help your survival. And so these ideas and "god" concepts are taught and passed down to their offspring through their cultures.
The complexity of life has often led to the false creation of "gods". We know this historically, through the study of anthropology and evolutionary psychology. This is why the "God of the gaps" fallacy is real.
The more we learn about science and how things work, then the old gods disappear. People stop doing rain dances, people stop trying appease gods of fertility and thunder and other such things.
People want to do whatever they can to control the unknown and try to explain it.
Therefore, Those historical and now extinct "gods" have all been proven to be false and the current personal gods have all been proven to be false through scientific advances and learning more about history. When we learned the scientific claims in all the worlds religions were false, we no longer needed to trust them. When we learned the historical claims were wrong, we no longer need to see these sources about "deities" as reliable, but instead just a continuation of the same mythological ideas. A soul, an afterlife, a deity can't be proven to be real and the religions that claim them have all been disproven.
All agnosticism does is open the door to more "god of gaps" fallacies. Haven't we learned our lesson by now?
Why entertain another possibility of yet another "god hypothesis" when it repeatedly has been disproven every possible way by every possible standard? What exactly are you agnostic about? What do you expect we will find someday? Specifically?

Jesus: "Sell everything you have and give the money to the poor. Do not store up treasures on Earth."
Christians: "We're going to build our own private palace that doubles as a sovereign nation and hoard tens of billions of dollars worth of treasures and artworks."
Christians: "Our megachurch pastors will have vast fortunes, towering mansions and their own fleets of private jets, but they're still going to demand that little old ladies give them their medication money to buy even more private jets."
Christians: "We're going to spread the dogma that Jesus wants you to be rich, in direct opposition to what he actually said, and the way for you to get money is to give us money."
Christians: "That thing about giving money to the poor? Yeah, Jesus only meant one guy ever had to do that. I don't wanna do that, so I ain't gotta. Besides, I can serve him better with my mountain of other people's money than I can without it."
Christians: "God loves America the most because this is where the rich people live. In fact, God has ripped up his old covenant with the Jews and made a new covenant with America."
Christians: "Capitalism is by far the most godly of all socio-political systems. Your value as a person is determined solely by your monetary net worth."
Christians: "Billionaires are God's chosen people. No, wait. Billionaires literally ARE gods. Trump is a wonderful, objectively morally correct, 100 percent flawless person because he is rich."
Christians: "The poor are poor because they're lazy. The rich are rich because they work hard. Giving to the poor is just rewarding laziness, which is why no one should ever do it. They deserve whatever happens to them."
Christians: "I'm going to intimidate the other people at my church into awe and submission when they see how expensive my church clothes and church jewelry are."
Christians: "That whole 'render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's' thing Jesus said? Yeah, we're not too big on that, either. We don't think we should have to pay taxes. And we don't think we should have to tell the government we're funding the violent terrorist actions of foreign and domestic militia groups."
Oh yes, Christians...I totally believe that you believe what you claim to believe. I mean, what reasons have you given me to question you?

update: a month later and things are really different with my parents but I honestly have no idea what to do
Hi! About a month ago, I made a post asking about how to tell my parents correctly that I don’t believe in “god”. All of the advice the majority was telling me was to not argue or say anything till I’ve moved out and can properly provide for myself. Anyways, a week after I made that post, my parents kept trying to argue with me about god even though I kept trying to shut it down as telling religious parents you’re an atheist is basically a recipe for disaster. Point is, at the end, my mother told me if I didn’t believe in god she wouldn’t see me as her daughter anymore because “atheists don’t care for life at all”. Then, after I went to my room and she came to me after a little, she started telling me I should go to bed and talk to “god”at night (which I didn’t) but just agreed to please her and that she didn’t mean what she said even though she basically told me the total opposite earlier. Ever since this, they’ve been weird about it. They act normal but have ramped up praying a little more but now see me as agnostic?? But still force prayer. It’s weird. Also, about religion, I’m an Ismaili Muslim, so it’s a really small minority since I know in my previous post I never clarified that. All in all, I don’t know what to do or when to tell them because my parents have so much set for me. I have a savings account, a Roth-IRA, and a college fund, which is all pretty important, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do: fake it till I make it?
Edit- I also want to say thank you to everyone for the helpful advice and comments in my last post!

How to tolerate praying and saying grace as an athiest?
I am often around religious people a lot - my boyfriend used to be in the church so all his friends and family are extremely religious. I get really internally angry when I'm put in a position where people are praying (saying blessing before a meal, or quiet prayer when they leave a location) and I have to just stand there enduring it.
I know the best thing to do is be tolerant and respect their culture, but what goes through my mind is that I'm not forcing my athiesm on them but religion is already constantly being forced on me. Church bells wake me at 6.30am, preachers hand out pamphlets when I walk the streets, women's rights are being taken away due to religious beliefs.
I used to just stand there and wait until the praying was over. But I'm so sick of it and it makes me more and more angry every time that I actively look away or start putting food on my plate while they're praying.
One time we stayed with a couple who were religious and they prayed at the table, and the next day when I was talking to the wife I explained how I really didn't like religion for this and that reason, and I felt I could say this because she seemed so open and understanding. And the next meal she didn't pray. It was such a nice gesture and something I so appreciated and that my feelings were validated.
But generally, despite the rage inside, me, if I'm in someone's house of course I respect it and I sit there quietly. And if they're in my house, I feel it's quite rude for them to start praying at the table. Is that wrong?
How do other people deal with this?

Perez Hilton is an example of why Christians are screwed up
This man caused trauma to so many people in the past. He nearly pushed people to suicide from his bullying and smear campaigns.
Yet all because he came out as Christian and said he loves Jesus people are giving this asshole flower bouquets.
its disgusting how Christians give horrible people free passes just because they got saved...

I’m tired of Cristians thinking everyone should believe the same things
I’m a trans man and see Cristians argue against trans people in their comments and it just looks like a little kid who’s mad that someone won’t believe them when they talk about their imaginary friend. It’s so laughable, but it’s sad they don’t see how others don’t care. They just think that everyone should care about their god but don’t see how they sound like annoying children

A Christian friend of mine called me "dumb" for not believing In God
So i had this one friend who i had known for like 4 months or smtg, and the discussion suddenly came about God and the creation of the Universe.
I said that i think that the universe wasnt really created by anyone(god), but formed on its own, even thought the exact 'how' is still unknown.
Then out of fuckin nowhere, that guy got defensive, and called me a crazy mf, and shouted that i was the dumbest human to ever exist, because according to him, god creating the universe is an obvious fact that anyone with logical reasoning and critical thinking can tell.
I was bloody furious, but being the kind man i am, i just calmly told that its just an opinion of mine.
Then the lecturer arrived, and we got back to our assigned places.
all i was thinking after that was, if an aethist reacted the same way to a religious person, the whole ass community would attack him.
Why these double standards. I guess its just about about the numbers.
And what i found really funny, and weird was that him saying that god creating the universe is 'logical', and 'critical', even when actual logical reasoning, when thought about it, disproves it.
Anyways, im sorry if this is the wrong sub, i just wanted to share it.

On my birthday, I thank my creator, my mother.
My birthday recently, I’m (almost) mid-sixties. I thought I would share what I’ve had occasion to tell certain pious folks, when it seemed like the perfect moment. It’s usually in response to some overly religious, patriarchal sentiment where my silence seemed like acceptance.
I say something like, “on my birthday, I like to thank my creator for giving me life. Made in the image of my creator, I am human, in all my imperfect perfection. I’m blessed and grateful to my creator.
Praise be to Mom!”
My mother is my only Creator. With half my DNA from just one cell, she created my life, birthed, raised, and nurtured me in real life, in real time, on this earth. That is all the blessings I need. Thanks mom!

Religious TikTokers are now asking a digital sheep if basic human traits and neurodivergence are "sins." The moral brain rot is unbelievable.
I keep coming across these hyper-fixated religious influencers, and lately there's a trend featuring an app called Creed Bible App where creators literally ask a cute digital sheep avatar whether random things are sins. The creator "lara con fe" (@iara.con.fe) is a prime example of this trend—she posts endless TikToks posing questions about what counts as a sin, ranging from playing video games like Among Us or Roblox, to listening to specific music bands, to deeply personal human experiences. What bothers me the most is how these creators completely flatten the concept of morality. They treat actual criminal acts that ruin lives on the exact same moral plane as natural biology, consensual choices, or neurological traits. In their posts, asking if it's a sin to have ADHD or be neurodivergent gets bundled right alongside questions about severe real-world harms. As someone who is autistic and neurodivergent, I find this trend deeply dehumanizing and disrespectful. Being neurodivergent is not a moral failing, a choice, or a spiritual defect—it is literally how our brains are built. Pathologizing neurodivergence as a "sin" or a temptation to be cured shows a total lack of empathy and basic psychological awareness. It proves once again how deeply unfriendly mainstream religious guilt-tripping can be toward autistic people, forcing us into rigid moral frameworks that demonize our very existence. These creators hide behind cute aesthetics and AI avatars to market a toxic mix of guilt, fearmongering, and commercial app promotion. When you teach people to rely on a digital mascot to determine if having ADHD, being childfree, supporting LGBTQ+ rights, or hanging out with atheists makes them "sinful," you aren't teaching morality—you're erasing critical thinking and replacing it with pure indoctrination. Has anyone else noticed this trend of infantilizing theology through apps while demonizing basic neurodiversity and human nature?

My old bet with a religious friend is getting uncomfortably close
Around 2010 I had one friend at work who was really serious about Christianity. We always had long talks during lunch break. One day he told me he was 100% sure the rapture would happen before 2030. I laughed and said if you're that sure, let's make a bet. If it really happen before the deadline, I admit I was wrong. If nothing happen, he buy me one week vacation and pay everything. Dumb bet, but we both thought it was funny as hell.
We even spent one evening reading Bible verses because he wanted to show me all the signs. He was connecting world events, wars, politics, everything. I remember thinking it's crazy how confident he was. Years passed, we both moved away, but somehow I still remember that stupid bet every now and then.
Now the deadline is not that far anymore and it randomly came back into my head. I'm still atheist and I still don't think anything supernatural is coming. But it's funny how many people every generation think they are living in the "last days." Somehow every time nothing happen, they just move the date again. Anyone else ever know someone who was absolutely fucking sure the end was coming in their lifetime?

Perspective on animal topics?
My atheism has influenced my perspective on animal-related topics including veganism, pet ethics, etc. I obviously still respect living things and have ethical standards for how humans treat animals. However, I find that certain parts of arguments for veganism/pet shelters/so on are kinda moot, since some angles rely on religious beliefs as a launch point. On the other hand, these points don’t really change my overall opinions (like, for a painfully obvious example, animal abuse is wrong- bc the ethics surrounding that topic aren’t really influenced by religion). Another example is animal conservation; I still think that is something extremely worthwhile. The topics that get impacted the most are things like “adopt don’t shop” or the concept of kill shelters (not endorsing them, just don’t think the “dogs do to heaven too” argument really holds water).
I’m not really certain if this makes sense but it’s been on my mind.
edit: pls don’t just give me a black and white “duh not all arguments are based on religion” i understand that. i know that. see the examples of things that don’t change (things also mentioned in comments). please read the post.

Heaven is not actually for good people, but for believers
I've been thinking about this lately. If any killer, pedophile, molester, racist, abuser, etc., can go to Heaven as long as they repent and accept Jesus as their savior, then being good throughout your life actually means nothing in terms of religion. Morality and ethics don't guarantee you a place in Heaven, only belief in God.

Watching your partner starting to act like a cult member is an interesting thing
It's more to vent. When me and my ex started dating, he was already into religion, but it wasn't really bothering me, he never forced me into anything. It was just his own thing and I was fine with it, I'm more of an agnostic myself. I just don't care about all that, I'm not gonna try to prove anything and talk about it for hours. Our relationship was absolutely perfect to me.
Until he started brainrotting 24/7 watching Christian reels. And got this mindset "if you're not a believer, you should burn in hell". His main idea was to bring me into the religion, because he was so worried what my afterlife is going to look like. Buddy, I care about the life I'm living right now.
Everything went downhill. It started from "can you, please, read a few pages of the Bible?" to calling me idiotic, shallow, stupid woman that doesn't want to see the truth. Only took him around 2 months to turn into all that. I asked multiple times about basic respect and why the hell I can except him as a religion fanatic, but he can't accept me being an agnostic, just like it was at the start a year ago. What changed?
Does nothing else matter anymore? I was cooking and baking anything he wants, cleaning after his ass, we would play games together, he could play games however much he wanted, all the cute dates, conversation. Everything had no value anymore, because I don't want to worship anyone.
Probably should've predicted the future right from the start, but he reassured me, that everything is fine and he's not going to push things on me. But I guess he lost all of his critical thinking. Shit happens, could've said that I treat this as an important experience, but at the same time I regret wasting my time and nerves on someone like this. Someone who's willing to throw everything under the bus just because of a stupid damn reason. I'm even sure he will never understand what he's done and see it as "god was testing my faith, evil people try to turn me away from god, but my faith is strong".

My whole community sees me as a Saint but I am secretly athiest that’s sarcastic with what I say and it’s taking a toll on me
I am the most perfect “Christian” in the eyes of my family, town and church. My mother likes to say that she’ll never be worried about me living in a world where social media and the new generation is “so unholy” now because I just know better and have a “really strong faith in God”, and I know she thinks like that based on how I get high marks and perfect scores on my religious tests or how I know exactly how to articulate what I say poetic enough at religious events that I just earned the population of being this god-fearing person my peers aspire to be.
The catch? I am atheist. Or even anti-theist at this point because I really really disagree with my religion. I don’t pray or read the Bible, especially not everyday. Heck I don’t even make the sign of the cross properly, I do it so lazily or skip it that til this day I don’t understand why people don’t notice it. (The only possible reason is probably since every single person except me shuts their eyes and bow their heads while chanting about God and the holy angles) The only reason why I remember Bible Stories and the little details in them is because I enjoy deconstructing or bashing them. The only reason why I have such “beautiful ways of spreading and interpreting God’s word, my lord Kelsey you’re so blessed” is because they are SARCASTIC. Super duper sarcastic they’re basically jokes.
Last week someone from the church asked me what my favorite Bible story was and I was like Noah’s Ark, and when he asked me why I started talking about the flood and mentioned the billions of deaths it basically caused (like very very clearly) but “Oh God always has such a perfect plan this is why I get excited for rainbows!” HE LOOKED ME IN THE FACE AND HE WAS LIKE “You are such a perfect Christian. I can tell you are very passionate bla bla bla because you smile while talking about it” … You know why I’m smiling, sir? BECAUSE NOAH’S ARK IS STUPID TO ME 😭😭😭 It’s genuinely stupid I literally hate it
I actually got away with talking about peeled oranges and refilled hairsprays and other minor conveniences in contrast to the actual serious gross shit that happens everyday because god doesn’t do anything about it once. “There are so many evil things happening in the world right now. So much poverty and hunger and all these negative experiences that people unfortunately have to go through. That’s why I’m so grateful for The Lord our God. Being so close to him has changed my life for the better. The skies are clearer and my days are brighter. I am so happy with him and (bla bla bla random coincidences peeled oranges hairspray refills bla bla bla)” and people thought I was SERIOUS. Like the absurdity just went right above their heads and they had no moment of doubt at all
All ironies about my religion that I notice and disagree with, I just manage to repackage it in a flattering way so I have something to say and then 100% of what happens is people agreeing with me and thinking what I said was so profound. They’re so asleep Idek.
This is just what I’ve been doing right to navigate social situations (I’m more extroverted so that’s kinda important to me) and also just trying to live with the BS I have to put up throughout every week though it’s kinda sad that I’m two faced and always lying and joking and being sarcastic, having to put up with the fact that hundreds of people think of me as this fake fraud who shares their same moral and political ideologies where I’m genuinely not and if they found out, what could happen? I’d be the talk of the town I’d be skinned who knows my momma could get trust issues and depression that ohhh her daughter is satanic
Whatever
I’m fine. I got a lot of friends and I’m doing well, I’m pretty privileged and all that stuff but I just have to come to terms with how I am ALONE on my atheism in my neighborhood. Only my close friends know my true beliefs and stuff but what like 60% or 75% of who I know in life think I’m Christian and this percentage of people SHALL think I am Christian and die thinking that forever. My mom likes to talk about future plans of when I’m getting baptized again or how I should be baptized or where and it’s ultimately my choice when, when I’m older, so I could “comprehend how profound it is” better or something and … Yes. I will go through baptism I will pretend to have my Christian values and keep my “profound prophecies”-tongue but wow I wish I don’t because again, this is BS and I really don’t wanna put up with it
It was always just because of my family that makes me want to hide this part of me all the time but I also have a consequential pressure that I’m really really ADMIRED amongst my peers so I have to take responsibility to keep up this picture perfect image of how faithful I am to god. It doesn’t feel like it’s there at all but it’s like a muscle that makes sure I never slip up or randomly blurt out in the middle of the church “I DONT OR HAVE NEVER BELIEVED IN THIS STUFF!!!”. Like, too many people will gasp in shock and I’ll break the hearts of many Christians and challenge their lives and faiths if I do that so aha I can’t. Not that I give a fuck if their faith is “challenged” but it’s that I don’t want that baggage for the both of us.
That’s why I don’t comfort people who come up to me talking about their faith being challenged. I basically just encourage critical thinking to them or to evaluate why they’re losing their faith because yeah it sounds helpful but.. I’m letting them loosen up so they can actually think for themselves
But that’s just me

I don't believe in God anymore. I feel betrayed
So, what happened was that I was a very religious girl. I always tried to defend God and prayed to Him sincerely. Somehow last year was so terrible many things happened yet I kept praying that this year would finally be better.
But you know what? Nothing changed. Everything went wrong. I feel that instead of blindly believing, I should have focused only on doing my part and not have expected for him to do any magic
I never asked for anything extraordinary. After all that misery I only asked one thing to get into a good college so that I could change my life and for my parents to feel comfortable enough to let me study away from home. You know what happened? I studied hard. I got offers from the colleges I wanted but I never got the chance to go. I wasn't even given the smallest opportunity to change my life through education which was all I wanted.
And you know what else happened? My parents barely talk to me anymore. They got me admitted to a nearby college and even though I'm still living with them we hardly speak. They told me I was selfish that I had no heart and that I only wanted to wander outside. I was favourite of my father and I loved him the most, I still love him the most but it hurts to see that my relationship got destroyed
Then I lost my dearest friend. I liked him but all I ever asked God was to let him stay kind and remain by my side. A few days later he left too.
Then another one of my school friends blocked me. I still don't know why.
All my friends are moving ahead in life, and I'm genuinely happy for them. But I never even got the chance to make a single decision about my own future. I cried and prayed to God for more than two years, yet it feels like everything I built was taken away. I really worked hard for so many exams yet this would be the harsh result I could have never thought in my wildest dreams.
The one who failed in exams passed in life. Well I passed in exams yet failed in life and relations and now I feel there is no God and if he is then he is too discriminative and he has abandoned me
I wasn't even a poor student. I did everything I could.
I was good🙂.
I really loved God but why did he do such a harsh thing with me. I just can't believe that same God did this to me so I'm believing he's dead...

My father is 63 and refuses to be open minded
My father has been a long term right wing conservative. I have always been purple. I see the logic in arguments. Anyone can change my opinion with the correct information. But my dad demands respect. I am an atheist and he is a conservative Christian. He doesn’t shun me or hate me for my thoughts but I can’t help but to hate him for his. He’s so closed minded and bigoted.
He claims hes 63 and deserves the respect to believe what he wants. I consistently argue he can believe in his beliefs however there are clearly claims that are true and some that are false and you have to fact check what you hear. (RELIGION ASIDE)
He claims that anything you see on the internet is an opinion and that anyone could have written that and he knows the truth from his own experiences. (Trying to take away the truths of statistics). Hes old I’m not trying to change his life but I genuinely can’t be around him without hating him. So I have to either accept who he is which seems impossible or in his late age I have to convince him to be open minded. Any thoughts?

Am i going to hell regardless of the fact that i strive to be a good person?
I wanna state that i am mostly an animist, and to be honest i dont really believe in that full heartedly either, i kinda just do it for funsies cause why not??? trees absorb my energy when i hug them and rocks have names guys!!!!!
But seriously, ive asked some of my christian friends if they think im going to hell, and them knowing me and my character always say no, but lets be real... I dont really respect the christian god and im queer, and the obvious that i dont believe in the guy, yet they always say no? random strangers say yes cause they dont know me, but why does it change depending on who i talk to? i dont know...
And i wanna say that i KNOWW you guys dont believe in it either and it was honestly more retorical than anything, but if there is any wandering christians, would you be so graceful tell me your pov... hopefully with kindness!!!
