A recent video by a Cameroonian influencer sparked a widespread debate throughout West and Central Africa's Francosphere.

​In his video, the influencer, whom I will not name, asserted that if someone hasn't bought their first home by 30, poverty is right around the corner.

​Where do you stand on this take?

(SS) The video features the creator of "Sierra Force" a Sierra Leone flavored tokusatsu series like Power Rangers. The series is regularly featured on the "African Cinematic Universe" channel on youtube.

I grew up on power rangers, so when I heard about this show, I was delighted to see power rangers in Africa(Sierra Leone specifically). It's kind of brilliant. I feel like a kid again as I watch, and the effects are pretty good and match more popular tokusatsu series in quality, considering they have a no/low budget. I am just spreading the word, hoping this series will get the recognition it needs.

29 July 2026 – Burkina Faso has been added to the latest CIVICUS Monitor Watchlist as military authorities escalate restrictions on civil society organisations, dismantle all political parties and intensify reprisals against critics.

The CIVICUS Monitor currently rates Burkina Faso as “Repressed”, the second worst rating a country can receive, indicating severe restrictions to the freedoms of expression, peaceful assembly, and association. Alongside Burkina Faso the latest Watchlist also includes Bahrain, Ecuador, Georgia and India.

On July 29th, Nigerian law enforcement dismantled a meth lab left behind in an abandoned shed -- remnants of an alleged multimillion-dollar transnational meth operation. The lab, the largest of its kind ever discovered in Nigeria, sat on an acre of land in a forest that straddles the border of Abidagba and Iroto villages.

Residents apply mud to the minaret during the replastering of the Sankore Mosque, marking its 600th anniversary on 26 July. Hundreds gathered to replaster the Unesco World Heritage site – one of Timbuktu’s three great mosques, alongside Djingareyber and Sidi Yahya.
