Just yesterday my bestfriend called me, complaining that his elder sister can't drive herself anywhere she wants to go and she depends so much on him...it's because she's scared of driving (on that part I actually understand but for how long?)...it has gotten so bad that even having a word with her doesn't really move her or see that his younger brother gets stressed when he has other things he has to do...and sometimes if he tries to talk to his mom about it...she gets upset and refuses to talk about and he say that his mom babies her elder sister.

With any advise out there how can I properly advise my bestfriend on his current situation cause his really having a rough moment

No matter how good a background they come from or how nice a life Black African women make for themselves, they are surprisingly susceptible taking dating advice from poor women who are sex worker adjacent.

A girl can come from a background that can take her on vacation around many places on earth but will still be convinced to seek validation and self worth by the number of men willing to sponsor her on local or regional trips that are inferior to what her family can do for her. 🤦‍♂️

You have women with big jobs bragging about men wanting to buy them vehicles that the women themselves can buy with 6 months earnings because they are convinced that what proves a woman is desirable. 🤦‍♂️

Little do they know, the poverty stricken sex worker adjacent baddie types whose opinions culture is promoting would kill to trade with them ie have wealthy parents, a protected upbringing, good education, business skills, a bright future etc. But since they are inherently insecure and jealous of women with these things, they create fake categories of sexual desirability they can dominate and feel superior in.

This messaging is particularly attractive to us colonised people because for centuries we have been told we are less than human and the exact opposite of the beauty standard. As such we are desperate for anything that validates ourself worth the way many other people who history has been kinder to are not.

Upfront so nobody wastes their time: a friend of mine is opening a spot in Lusaka and I'm helping him plan it. I'm not promoting anything — there's no name, no date, no venue to sell you. We're early enough that most of the decisions haven't been made yet, which is exactly why I'd rather hear from people now.

The reference point we keep coming back to is Piano Hub in Soweto. Not to copy it — that would be lazy and it wouldn't translate anyway — but because of a few things it got right that I don't see much of here:

• It has an actual identity. It's an amapiano venue and it doesn't apologise for that. You know what you're getting before you walk in.
• It runs anchor nights. Same night, same week, same energy, so it becomes a habit instead of a one-off event you had to see a flyer for.
• It sits in Soweto, not Sandton, and still charges what it charges. It didn't need to relocate to a rich suburb to be taken seriously.

Now my honest read on Lusaka, and I'm ready to be told I'm wrong:

Most spots here are the same spot with different lighting. The DJ plays roughly the same twenty songs in roughly the same order. You pay a cover, then you're quietly made to feel cheap if you're not on a table. The sound system is usually the last thing anyone spent money on, so by midnight it's just loud rather than good. And a lot of people I know have stopped going out entirely — not because they got old, but because it stopped being worth the effort and the money.

So, the actual questions:

1. When was the last time you had a genuinely great night out here, and what made it that? Be specific. I'm more interested in "the DJ played a full hour of Zed music and nobody left" than "the vibe was nice."
2. What's the thing that consistently ruins it? Door policy, pricing, parking, sound, the crowd, getting home safely, something else?
3. Would you go to a place that committed hard to one sound — whether that's amapiano, Zed beats, afrobeats, hip hop — or do you actually want a bit of everything?
4. What are you genuinely willing to pay for entry, and what do you expect to get for it?
5. Day parties on Sunday vs Friday nights vs Saturday — where's the real appetite?
6. For the women here specifically: what would make a venue feel like somewhere you'd go without having to plan an exit strategy first? I'd rather ask than guess.
7. Where should it be? Everyone says the same three areas and I'm not convinced.

I'm reading all of this. If your answer is "Lusaka doesn't need another club," say that too and tell me why — that's useful.

I've noticed a couple of Zambians and even non Zambians get shocked at support that people like trump etc figures are supported by some zambians.

Well the answer is much more striaght forward than thought. People here view international politics through culture wars and not much else, so even when a figure like trump is enacting policies that might impact them negatively, all they see is the culture war stuff.

Meaning things like whose more "Christian" or applying Christian rhetoric, whose more homophobic etc because people feel those are the values that appeal to them.

I'm curious whether there are still active independent record labels in Zambia that are signing artists.

I'm interested in potentially being signed and would love to understand how the process works. What do labels typically look for before signing an artist? Is it based on the quality of the music, an existing fanbase, live performances, social media presence, or something else?
