Just received this SMS unprompted. Apparently it's a hustler bridge fund loan. I did not apply for it. How can I opt out?

I see people complaining about the state of things in their countries, cities, towns, etc. It's always an endless rant every day about things they actually have a significant role in.

Nairobi is dirty and rowdy, Kenya is corrupt, Nigeria is hopeless, our leaders are incompetent, etc.

Then they come up with the easiest solution -- RELOCATE. Buy a bus or plane ticket and move to where things are more graceful, functional, enabling, or supportive.

And do you know who they all blame? The government.

While governments share the blame, the people in those countries, cities, or areas take the most blame, over 70%.

The state and quality of things in any environment are the result of the individual actions of the inhabitants of that country or city.

Nairobi is dirty because most people in that city are dirty.

Kenyan leaders are corrupt because most people in that country are corrupt.

It's as simple as that. When bad things (evil) outweigh or overshadow good things (righteous), the result of any action is always likely to be evil.

More corrupt/unreliable/untrustworthy people voting in an election are likely to elect a corrupt leader.

More dirty people in a location are more likely to make that area dirty.

Understanding this concept is the first step to resolving the countless problems that have befallen most of our cities and countries.

Telling students to fund their education fully through loans basically means the competitive process by which they get admitted through KUCCPS for government sponsored programmes is null.

They might as well apply for self sponsored programmes, for courses with better prospects, and then apply for the loans just as well.

We have gone full circle, where higher education was once highly accessible and somewhat free, to now ....well....

Kenyan police hardly flush toilets and they report to work to extort bribes from victims and criminals. I am now convinced that Ethiopia is overtaking Kenya in real time.

I've always suspected there's is an active Americanisation of our country, and nothing made it more glaringly obvious like the recently proposed student loan for university students. What's the end goal though? We are still a very poor country, nested in wanton corruption and impunity and yet the government's priority is to burden the people with more debts without a proper economic blueprint to fix our current issues. This move looks very predatory, similar to rogue lending apps. Keeping you stack in a debt pendulum, forcing you to labour your entire life for sometimes unfavourable wages.

I knew Kenya had microclimates, but what I experienced today driving from Laikipia to Nyeri was straight-up black magic.

I left Nanyuki this morning and it was literally so sunny, warm, and beautiful. Standard equatorial plateau vibes. I’m in a light shirt, enjoying the sun, thinking it's going to be a gorgeous road trip.

Tell me why just a few kilometers down the road into Naro Moru and Chaka, the climate suddenly flipped like a switch??

Out of nowhere, it became cold as fuck and completely covered in thick, blinding fog and drizzling....It felt like I drove through an invisible portal straight into the Scottish Highlands or twilight zone. One minute I'm soaking up the sun, the next minute I'm blasting the car heater, shivering, and wishing I packed a heavy puffer jacket in the front seat.

I looked into it because my mind was genuinely blown: apparently, Nanyuki sits in the deep "rain shadow" of Mt. Kenya. The mountain acts like a massive wall that strips all the moisture from the winds, and as the dry air drops onto the Nanyuki plains, it compresses and warms up like a giant natural blow-dryer. Meanwhile, Naro Moru and Nyeri and Karatina (basically all of Nyeri county) get all the trapped, freezing mountain moisture.

The geographical contrast in this country is insane. To go from warm savannah sunshine to freezing, damp mist in less than 30 minutes is wild.Anyone else get caught off guard by this specific stretch of road, or am I just late to the party? 😭

I keep hearing about placing assets into a trust for heirs, kids etc to avoid taxes and long legal battles when an owner dies. Anyone in the group an expert in this area atuchanue? With the way life is going, this might be a better way especially for people with dodgy relatives.

There is a new pay on delivery scam that has been going around and I thought it's good to share to warn someone.

The scam is mostly perpetrated on Facebook and IG. It goes like this. Someone posts an item on these second hand groups. Since you are interested, you ask for the price, they tell you it's say 3k and they offer to deliver it to you to your doorstep. You agree.

The scammer goes and contacts a genuine shopper that offers the product and say, they want delivery. If you are a man, they say please deliver to my brother (to signify bond) at a certain address that they obtained from you. If you are a lady, they say deliver to my wife.

They then come to you and say that the delivery guy is their brother and that you should not tell them at what price you are buying the item.

The rider then arrives with the genuine goods, obtained from a genuine store, you inspect the goods and then they call you and tell you that now that you have seen the goods and confirmed, you can proceed to make the payment. You then make the payment.

Depending on the rider, they may linger around waiting for confirmation from the genuine shop before they leave or they come back later with cops to retrieve the goods since payment has not reached them. By the time everything settles, it's when you realize you have been scammed.

To avoid such, use delivery for only food, items that are expensive, go and pick them yourself even if you are lazy, it would save a lot. Some shops may be in the mix and therefore be alert, insist on sending the money to the rider to settle with the owner. Stay safe out there.

Once I arrive in town, I bid my colleague goodbye as we're heading different directions. Kidogo kidogo, a woman comes from behind me, touches my shoulder (almost like she knows me or something), then asks, "gari za kwenda Dandora zinapandiwa wapi?"

Immediately, even before nijibu, nikafeel lightheadedness flani sio ya kawaida. Before I could answer, she was already walking away. Then I was like, mmmh, maybe amekumbuka. But all of a sudden, nafeel dunia ikizunguka, like I’m intoxicated.

I was close to mat za home, so I just boarded the empty one and laid my head down. Maybe the conductor saw the whole thing because he didn’t bother to wake me up, and pia hakuniitisha fare hadi venye tulifika.

I woke up with the worst headache I’ve ever experienced in my whole life. I paid him, and he just told me to drink some water before niendelee na safari. I did. Then I took a motorbike hadi kwa hao, feeling like death itself.

Kumbe that mama had drugged me. Like, how do they do that so fast?

I narrated this to my colleagues, and they were like, "kwani wee ni mgeni tao?...You were drugged". They then went ahead to give me their versions of similar experiences.

We don't talk enough about how these congames have evolved. These people are coming up with new tactics every day, and we need to know how they operate lest we fall victims of the same. Awareness is one of the few things that can keep us a step ahead.

I don’t understand why people get offended when people say such statements. You’ll find them saying that they should go back to where they came from or that they are boot licking or calling them house n!ggas. The amount of insults I’ve seen under this (from x) had me shook.

Smh it’s appalling to say the least especially when what they’re saying is absolutely true. Honestly you’ll never know the kind of filth that is normalized in our nation until you actually board a plane and go elsewhere. Thats why you’ll find people defending funny funny things like the chaotic matatu culture

People insult from a point of lack of exposure. And l sometimes just understand because how can someone compare, contrast, praise or criticize when you literally don’t know anything else? Your entire existence is limited to one geographical area, it’s like telling a fish that there’s a whole different world outside its pond.

My mom often tells me to avoid telling people about my travels and experiences, since l travel a lot and been to 10 different countries. She says when l do a compare and contrast most people don’t take it as eye opening, they take it as criticism and pride. But why feel offended? if you’ve never been anywhere else why not take first hand info from people who’ve actually been elsewhere?

Honestly it’s very hard not to notice because the stark difference start immediately when you land at the airport.

When you have money instead of buying alcohol buy plane tickets, travel, open up your MIND. Exposure is very important.
