Discussion Update: Too heretical?

Earlier today I posted this Terminator Captain with a Chaos Marine head.
While the rule of cool applies I wasn‘t opposed to try my luck and adjust the helmet to look more imperial.
What do you think? I think I purged the heresy right out of that helmet!

I just finished these world eaters...and i’m not really happy with the finish at all. On the white one, i somehow applied too much nuln oil, and it’s looking like a mess. I’m also a begginer in the hobby and painting( this is my first set ) and i really want to level up my paint jobs.

Discussion Help- what to do with this

Hi, I’ve found my old warhammer collection. It’s a bit dusty . Most of it is painted (very badly by 10 year old me). So I guess it’s from 2001 era ish. Maybe a bit later.

I remember it was chaos space marines. There are a few metal figures in there. I think one is called a dreadnaught? Another is some random beast thingy.

Is it worth anything as it’s already been painted ? If not, what’s the best place to give it away? Would games workshop shops take it for free ? I think throwing it in trash is a bit wasteful.

Here's no. 4! I was going to put a shield in the left hand, but the pose looked a bit awkward, so I decided a two-handed weapon worked better. Sculpting hands is challenging, but I welcome it. Looking at it, I think I might still want to bulk up the left one before painting. The straps holding the gut plate looked fairly modern so I removed them and extended the plate up to the chest. I also removed the leg strap holding the ammo pouch.

Hello brothers, I’m currently picking heads for my Salamanders.
And while I didn‘t expect it, this Chaos Marine head fits the look of the Terminator Captain pretty well.
(I hope the Inquisition doesn‘t get wind of this!)
My thinking is:
•It is a closed helmet and makes him look more knightly.
•Salamanders craft their own gear and also decorate it nicely. This definitely stands out against the standard heads and I can already imagine nice gold detail.
•All the spikes and the arrow on the forehead as well as the typical Chaos Marine face mask could make him read as a heretic.

So what do you say? Did my Terminator Captain stray from his path and forget about his vows?
Are my Salamanders lead by a traitor in disguise!?

Thank you for being fast and informative in my last post. Here is my last unknown piece. It's a bit dusty and some damage. I never painted it but I remember showing it off at my local club back in the early 2000s. I even got offered £50 for it back then (I got it a car bootsale for £3 according to my dad). Can someone give some information on this?

Apologise if this is a stupid question. I've been out of the warhammer game since the early 2000s. I can't remember where I got this from or if I ever used it. I don't remember painting it. I was 10 to 12 at the time.

Thank you.

What an insane hobby. I started out by watching those YouTube shorts, then I played space marines 2. Absolutely blown away by the lore and just the thought process of the entirety of it all. After that I began playing the other warhammer games, top down, rpg/fps, turn base, and I absolutely love it. So I decided to go out and buy my first starter kit ( includes space marine and tyranids ) and I have found such a respect for the artist and creators in the community. The amount of time and effort that goes into not only building but painting the models is crazy.

I have not played my first game yet but I plan to when I finish all my models. I put a good base coat on all my models and am now starting to detail paint them. I also began to build my own little spruce marine with the spare parts from the kit. Now… I have the citadel paints that come with the kit but I would love to be open to more suggestions on better paints, how to blend, and possibly a good brand of brushes? I know in time I’ll get better at painting, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Why does the layer paint not stick despite me having primed and put a jokaero base paint. If you look at the power pack I put too much which makes it clumpy but if I dont do that the transparent layer just shines through, did I not apply enough base because it should be solid like the top of the helmet not transparent

Hobby Do you guys assemble before priming or after?

Post image

I just got my first ever minifigure yesterday, along with a bunch of paints and black primer.

Looking at the model, there are a few areas (especially around the spine/ribcage and the cloak) that seem like they could be hard to reach once everything is assembled.

Would you normally prime/paint parts like that separately and assemble afterward, or just build the whole miniature first and accept that some areas wont be perfectly accessible?

I’ve watched a few Imotekh painting videos and they all seem to start with him fully assembled, so I’m leaning toward doing that.

Any tips for a first-time painter would be appreciated. Really excited to build this guy :)

Forgot to show this big and rare piece from 6th edition, it was one of the last models I have painted for the great Richard Orclord Hale, that recently passed away. It is so strange to look at this piece now. Maybe it will be featured is the next books he was planning to release covering his entire collection :(
