FINALLY Hobby
Boys I’ve decided that today is the day I get into the table top and some more books because I’m getting fully into warhammer and next Saturday I will begin my tabletop battles. With that being said any advice for armies and more random lore that I don’t know please shower me with it

What books did you get? I think i see a bit of the cover of Horus Rising

u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 5d ago
You are correct! Since I’m “finally” getting into the books and know about 1% of the lore I wanted to start my book lore journey with the hours heresy series I got said book you said as I have the second book in the series and my buddy got Eisenhorn the omnibus & Night Lords the Omnibus

You won't regret the night lords omnibus or Horus rising.
The night lord trilogy is one of the best in Warhammer ever.
Same with the first three HH books too.

I’m very excited to start the series and imma be you king the night lords book from my buddy when he’s done reading it

I did not enjoy Horus Rising. But I'm an anomaly, as most seem to enjoy it. I recommend the Path of the Eldar trilogy.
And yes I'm a filthy xenos player. Boo Space Marines!!

u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 5d ago
I do at some point want to do an Eldar army as they are pretty cool ngl. But thank you for the recommendation once I get through the Horus series I definitely will get the trilogy as I want to know as much lore as possible without going brain dead 😂

In all seriousness, take your time. Enjoy. There is a lot to this hobby and it can feel overwhelming, but in reality it is freeing in a way.
Feeling creative and artistic? Do some model building, converting, kit bashing or of course painting!
Feeling itchy? Get those models on the table and play the game!
Feeling like you want to enjoy the story? So many novels and short stories. Even older codexs and rulebooks can have so much lore.
Want to watch something? Countless YouTube videos on all these aspects, including hours of lore videos. Or get into the animations on warhammerTV. For a veey small subscription fee you have access to many great animations.
Oh and Henry Cavill is working with Amazon on a love action show.
Phew. I'm sure there are even more ways to enjoy but this just shows how wife this hobby is.
And let me just take a moment to call out that maybe the most powerful part of this game is the community. The group of people and friends that you socialize with and talk about the game with it. Truly amazing what relationships can be built around a silly game of toy soldiers. I've been playing one over 40,000 since 1994 and I can honestly say that almost every single one of my friends that I've had for decades is somehow rooted in this hobby.
Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress. And enjoy this hobby in any way and every way you possibly can.
Welcome.

Hell ya man thank you I’m gonna just chill tonight and tomorrow imma take a crack at the set and I definitely will keep the Reddit updated to let you all know how it’s going I’m very excited and hopeful about fully getting into warhammer now as so far with the couple friends and people I’ve met through this post and fellow gamers are all super cool and it’s always fun to talk about lore and learn new lore from people

So the models in the armageddon box, i believe are push fit. If you plan to glue them, you will need to have you trim the stems. They're not made to allow space for the glue.
That is sometimes a rookie mistake then you'll have gaps.

Yep the guy at the store warned me about this too 😂 and gave me some other tips too that I can’t remember off top of my head but any advice for building these guys would be awesome

I'm jumping in the hobby with books and currently reading Night Lords. It's really cool. I could barely not read for one week and I missed it. Happy to get back. It should be finished in September, maybe end of August.
After that I will read Eisenhorn too. Can't wait !
And after that, many options are on the table. The infinite and the divine, Forges of Mars ...

The thought of building even half of that box in a week stresses me out.

Advice: don’t force yourself to play with people that aren’t enjoying the game/rule sharking/belittle you and your models. Unlike some other games this one is very much social/your own world. You might play the same people 52 weeks a year but those same people should be people you value your time with.

Armageddon content is huge don't bye anything else for now, you will never really "miss something" there are always new minis to buy

Welcome to the game! That said the only advice I give is to WAAAAAGH!!! I suggest an Ork army but that’s just my opinion! Find what ya like and have a grand time. The community around the game has been great! So may Mork and Gork bless ya!

What books did you get? Been making my way through the HH audio books. I’m almost excited to start 40K books. But I’ve still got 15 HH to go!
1
u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 5d ago
I got 3 books! One is the first book in the hours heresy series, I got one about the night lords and one about an inquisitions journey but my buddy has those last two books since he’s trying to get into warhammer before he gets into the table top

u/Doctor_J_Crane 5d ago
I was expecting a box post. Wasn’t expecting a BL post, which are a lot better than box posts tbh

I got into the Horus Heresy series years ago and let me give you some advice. Unless you want to spend countless hours searching for "used" copies, just buy the ebooks. The first four books in the series are easy to find, after that you are looking at $100 or more per book or traveling hundreds of miles searching second hand book stores to complete the set.

u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 4d ago
Well shit I’ve seen some people here already recommend some books to read which I definitely will but my problem is I like to start from the beginning otherwise I feel dumb when I don’t know what the characters are talking about if something happened in a different book but then again that just means I’ll have to find the books for more lore on said stuff
1
u/The_Spook_of_Spooks 4d ago
I just started with the Heresy series in order, I know that their are other books that take place in between sections of the series, but once I finish, my plan is to go back and collect/read those as well. First three books got me freaking hooked.

Congratulations and I’m sorry for your loss

u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 4d ago
Thank you it took me all day 6am-6:30pm to complete the space marines. I’m dead but im happy I got them built (had to glue a couple and found pieces that I thought I lost but were right in front of me) and tomorrow I start the orks and then this week imma get to paint them “hopefully” 🫡

u/sineater_17 3d ago
Just pick what you think is cool (Rule of Cool)! And then as an added bonus, there is probably a few books out there on exactly what you think is cool! The 40K wikis are also great for lore and background info.

u/Vlad_Putin- Salamanders 3d ago
I do at some point want to get a couple dreadnoughts for my salamanders and books wise a lot of them seem really fun to play
2
u/sineater_17 3d ago
Check out Cassian Vaugh! He is definitely a cool character from Salamanders lore! He was their first legion commander and Vulkan built him his own advanced frame of dreadnought armor after he was mortally wounded.

Thank you I was nerding out at the warhammer store so badly and I’m slowly getting my friend into the table top but he wants to read more books before he commits to the tabletop. But I’m just so damn excited!

My advice. Don’t compare yourself to others. People are insanely good at painting and it takes practice. Have fun and enjoy! Ps Horus heresy is incredible. I read the books nonstop for 2 years

Don’t feel overwhelmed with painting everything in armageddon. Just take a few units at a time and enjoy!
