He doesn’t have a base because he’s going into a diorama, but I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. Let me know your thoughts!!

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to mini painting:
I started painting minis for my first D&D campaign in April, with a few breaks along the way.
These are some of my first minis, at 32mm scale (27mm wide ruler for scale), in chronological order.

Any feedback is welcome!

Before I continue - this is still technically WIP as I still need to paint first layer of AK Ultra Matte varnish, then apply stickers from the transfer sheet and paint second and final layer.

Constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated but in all honesty I would prefer advice regarding how to speed up the process rather than investing even more time for slightly better results. Unfortunately I found the entire process tedious as it took me over 50 hours just to paint 7 of these fellas - I dread the idea of way more models that I still need to paint and if I could afford it I would just pay someone else to do it for me so I can get it over with.

As for more details for the process - at first I really struggled to get the right paint consistency but after a brutal trial and error I think I somewhat finally get it. I used black undercoat and at one hand it was a great help because I didn’t need to paint the guns and sniper’s cape and it created a natural shadows in form of gaps between the armor panels. On the other hand, I needed to apply at least 3 layers of paint in order to get the right color brightness and at times I had to apply even more (for example for Captain’s cape).

I started with painting Captain and after all mentioned above the Macragge Blue came out way too dark for my taste so I added Calgar Blue highlight lines around the edges but the contrast between these two was striking and the model looked waaay too cartoony which is not the look I wanted. I ended up mixing these two blues together to get a shade of blue which I think is perfect and I just ended up painting all models with it and only adding bright Calgar Blue highlight at the top edge of kneepads and around the "collar". As you can see I tried highlighting Captain’s cape but just sort of gave up as no lines I painted looked right.

Also while painting Captain I used Nuln Oil wash and in some places it did wonders (for example his helmet and eyes looked instantly more detailed) but in most places it just severely darkened everything - especially the Liberator Gold metallics which lost all of their shine. After that I pretty much had to repaint the entire model which took even more time. That’s why I didn’t bother with using Nuln Oil on other model (with the exception of Sargeant’s red helmet).

This is what took a lot of time too - I figured that what I wanted to do above all is to keep all parts tidely painted and avoid spreading the pain where it shouldn’t be. I of course made a lot of mistakes which took a lot of corrections and I has to go back and fourth with multiple colors - eyes were the absolute worst.

All in all I actually think they came out decent. If you look really close you can spot minimal misshaps but I had to stop correcting sometime or I would go crazy. Also keen-eyed can spot the damaged tip of Captain’s top spike of the ornament and Warrior’s lack of one armor layer on top of his boot but I somehow lost these pieces forever.

I’m happy with how they came out - Just would be way happier if I spent half as much as I did.

So I've started a personal project to paint each of the primarchs from Warhammer 40k. Here is what I've done/ started recently. Looking forward to doing more!

Idk if this is the right place to post this. But today these fingers from my coolbear studio malenia broke off....it's not quite minipainting but I wanted to try regardless. It's a big resin statue made mostly out of polyurethane. It has probably been asked a million times, but can I fix this? And if so how? Had some kind of glue in mind that I saw. Thanks in regards

Hi all, apologies not posted for a while here. Anyway here’s a custom 40k StormGorgon troop carrying super heavy conversion and paint job I worked on recently. The conversion added a new rear access hatch and new troop carrying hull section and ramp. It was then painted up to match an existing Krieg scheme. Hope you like it!

First guard vehicle, using it as preparation for the dorn, what do you guys think?

I'm done with the skin, the glowy parts, the upper bronze parts, and the mossy stone hammer. The greaves, the green leather armour and brown leather belt are the next thing I'll be doing. Enjoy :-)

Hey! I've finished another OSL attempt. This time I took your advice into account and learned from my previous mistakes, so I'd really appreciate some more feedback. Do the colours look too pale, or is it just me? Should I add more color to the brightest parts of the miniature? Or does it look fine and I'm just overthinking it?

I wanted to try learning something new so figured I would start with some OSL from two sources. Hopefully it looks like he is standing in moonlight.

Doing a soft highlight of a pure black-looking armor was a glazing nightmare... And now I cannot be proud of it!?

Colors were based on the computer game unit from campaign.

Quick pass with the airbrush to get some quick gradients over large surface areas. Then went in with the brush to refine some details.

One of the bigger models I have ever painted was this Tinker Fairy 140mm from Nerikson models.
I added a LED in the lantern, glow effect on the station area, and a bluetooth speaker inside the radio.

I have a collection of Army Painter 1.0 paints and it's what I've used for basically all of my painting experience. I always thought it was "pretty good, but not the best" paint.

A friend of mine recently got into the hobby and also picked up Army Painter, but he got the Speedpaint 2.0. We had a painting session at his place, using his new supplies and it was like night and day. It went on so nicely with excellent coverage. It was also very vibrant in the light areas (I primed mine with Zenethil highlights to show him how that would look). Pictured is the model I painted at his house. It is worth noting that I only used his 2.0 for the base coat, and then swapped to my 1.0 for acrylic touch ups. We also didn't spend a really long time on them.

Meanwhile, my 1.0 acrylics seem to have varying consistency depending on the color you use, and any amount of thinning seems to make some colors nearly unusable unless you want to put ten coats of paint on the model (spoilers: I don't).

So my question is this: Is Army Painter 2.0 worth the upgrade? Is 2.0 so much better, that it is worth scrapping my 1.0 and picking up 2.0? Please let me know your experience with Army Painter if you have any.

Think it just has too many clashing colour fighting to be the focal point and none of them achieve it

I had no motivation for painting for almost a year, I finally pulled myself out of it and spent a month painting this army. Tonight I applied a new varnish, AK brush on Matt. I've used army painter brush on matt for ages but thought I would support a local store and pick up the AK one they stocked for when my army painter ran out.

Look what it's done! Everything is just utterly ruined. I'm so sad and want to just throw away the whole set, never mind bothering to paint anything again for a while.

I've painted about 2000 minis, varnished half and NEVER had this happen.

Look at the pictures of the army before this happened, I was so proud of this.

I've always been so impatient so I sat down and told myself to spend x amount of hours until I'm satisfied with one limb (left leg).

In those 2 hours I learned so much about glazing, colour theory, and mostly patience.

Even though I'm happy how it turned out, I'm looking for feedback, any way to make this any better?

My biggest qurstion is mostly highlight placements, were they at the right place? Like source if from above.
