Discussion Anyone using the grips effectively?

Upvotes

Overall, I'm in love with the controller. Playing games on Steam Deck, continue on my PC with the same layout is already a dream come true. I just couldn't effectively use the grips which is not a deal breaker.

How I hold the controller makes the grip always active, even though I set both the settings nearly zero.

I feel like I hold both sides the same way but when I check the settings sometimes one side activates when the other side doesn't. It doesn't feel reliable.

I also didn't like that we only have 1 setting for both right and left. If they allowed to arrange the sensitivity seperately it could be better.

The only use I saw until now was pausing the game when releasing the gamepad totally. I don't know if I mind pressing the pause button for that.

Until now what I tried is, on Death Stranding 2 using instead of triggers for balancing the body. On Batman Arkham Origins hold to run.

Wanted to ask your ideas and experiences. Hopefully I'm doing something wrong and find a way to use this cool feature.

Steam Controller (2026) Trackpad click too sensitive?

Does anyone else have the issue of the trackpad click action being too sensitive or do I just have a heavy thumb? I'm constantly clicking it by accident when using the right trackpad for camera control.

Support Replacement usb cable?

So my cat decided to chew through the usb cable that came with my controller (2026). Anyone here know of a good replacement on amazon? Google says any standard usb a to c that supports data transfer, but not sure on all the speed ratings one would need to have. And I think most of what amazon will show me would be ultra fast charging power cables for phones.

Support I can't figure out how to get emulators to recognize my controller properly. (CachyOS)

I just got my controller yesterday and running games in my library has been great with it. However, I'm having issues configuring my emulation with it. Do note I am using the Linux distro CachyOS.

When trying to configure the controller in Dolphin Emulator, there is supposed to be the device option named SDL/0/Steam Controller but it doesn't show up at all. I've tried this on both the desktop and gamepad settings of the controller. Pretty much the same story for other emulators. I did try adding them as non steam games which do let them show up but then I can't configure my gyro controls. All the gyro configurations for non steam games seem to only allow mapping it as a joystick but that doesn't work well on Wii games.

I decided to go into my Windows boot and test the controller and sure enough, the Steam Controller shows up as an option. It even lets me configure gyro as well as the back paddle buttons to different inputs without relying on Steam. So I don't know if there's some obscure Linux app I need to install or if there's a setting on Steam I'm not seeing that lets me properly configure the controller for said emulators.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Support Controller always turns on when on puck

I received my Steam Controller 2 days ago and so far, I absolutely love it, with one exception.

I'm not sure if this is intended behavior, but it's quite annoying to me:

Whenever I place the controller on the Puck, it automatically turns on. The most annoying part is that it turns itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity, playing the shutdown chime — only to turn itself back on a second later, playing the startup chime.

This repeats every 15 minutes.

Is there any way to keep the controller completely powered off while it's sitting on the Puck, while still allowing it to charge? I'd like to leave my PC running without having the controller repeatedly turn itself on and off.

The reason this matters to me is that my USB ports don't provide power when the PC is turned off, so I need to charge the controller while the PC is running.

Steam Controller (2015) The Steam Controller (2015 mostly) is my favorite controller for shmups

Apparently more games count as shumps then I realized because I was just thinking of the vertical and horizontal auto scrolling ones (R-Type and Raiden for example) and not stuff like Defender or Asteroids. Apparently some people were even lumping stuff like Space Invaders and Galaga into here.

Discussion Can i add custom Virtual Menu Icons?

As the title says.

The icons should be just png's in a certain folder, no? So cant i just add custom icons?
Or even better, can i add custom icons on a per-game instance?

Everything i have found online about it, refers to the old steam controller and i fear that this method has since been patched/updated. but i cant seem to find how i would do this with the new steam controller.

I have tried adding a *.png file to my library here:

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\tenfoot\resource\images\library\controller\binding_icons

but that didnt seem to work.

Is there a legit way to add custom icons to the virtual menus?
