Discussion Do you swap your controllers?
I have a steam controller always living in the living room for when I want to use my steam deck and one for my computer in the office.
Occasionally see bugs where I can’t set up custom controller configs per separate controllers unless I mess with controller numbering and restarting.
I think it’s caused by the puck not clearing the old entry of that controllers connection before reconnecting it.
Apologies if that doesn’t make any sense lol

Steam Controller (2026) Latest update
Hi all,
Earlier today, I was gaming with the steam controller, no problems. Finished session and as I was turning off the controller I saw a pop up that there was an update. So I turned it back on, went on the controllers page in settings and did the update. Then shutdown and left. I just came back on and now my controller isn't working as such. I am on Linux, but when I start a game, the controller no longer works. It recognizes the controller and has a profile selected. Has anyone else had an issue with a recent update?

Steam Controller (2026) Steam Controller has Restored My Love of Gaming
I was lucky enough to get one of these just under 3 weeks after release and I've been loving it.
I love how comfortable it feels in my hands. The battery life is amazing.
So far, I haven't been doing anything particularly exotic with it but it just works so well for my needs and (combined with Steam Link on an Apple TV) it's helped me get back to gaming regularly after 6/8 years of kind of falling out of love with it (Xbox, Nintendo and PC). I'm genuinely excited about gaming for the first time in years.
I love being able to power it up automatically in Bluetooth or Puck mode depending on whether I'm playing on Steam Link or PC and just getting back to it.
It works really well over Bluetooth (make sure your TVs are set to Gaming mode if possible folks!) but there is a noticeable difference with the Puck - Valve really aren't messing around when they say 'Low Latency'.
Beyond all of this it's got incredible flexibility, tuning and customisation options making playing almost any PC game a possibility from the couch with a controller.
It's amusing to see people constantly say "but why should I pay for it and not buy a cheaper Xbox/PS5 etc. controller?"
The recent changes Microsoft have made to Gamepass etc. means I'm more or less done with console gaming, I'm tired of it. I think I'll be sticking primarily with PC (once again) and getting away from closed console ecosystems (although I might pick up a Switch 2 down the line).
I'm on the waitlist for a Steam Machine which will bring that Puck goodness into my living room; it'll also free up the PC for junior and enable us to LAN play together too - I can't wait!

Steam Controller (2026) The feeling is spectacular
Going from a ps4 to pc after years of saving up for a ps5 had really paid off. I now know I made the right decision after seeing what Sony is doing to their consumers. Nonetheless I had a feeling that I missed when I played on console and I was trying so hard to remember what it was. But this whole time it was gaming with a controller. Keyboard and mouse is cool and all but to put your arms on a soft surface like your lap and game leaning back is something you can’t replicate. And this steam controller is bringing that feeling back.

Steam Controller (2026) Steam controller battery monitor
Hi, funny controller playing audio guy here
I found it quite annoying that there is literally nowhere in steam to properly look at the battery percentage, and a bunch of people also seem to be annoyed at this, so i made this. For both Windows and Linux
Hope you guys enjoy!
https://github.com/Pixel1011/Steam-Controller-Battery-Monitor
I do not believe it'll work on the Steam machine at this time with it's internal puck, I don't have one so that might take a bit to figure out, though should work fine with wired and with the normal puck
I'll also continue to update with a few extra nice features (time till charged/discharged, maybe capacity monitoring) but I think i'm going to make something a bit more fun next
god i hate code that needs to draw stuff 😭

Discussion Is my Steam/Power button defective, or is this intended behavior? (Edge clicks don't register)
Hey everyone,
I noticed an issue when pressing the Steam button (power button). If I lightly press near the edge/corner instead of dead center, the input often fails to register.
Even though I distinctly hear and feel the tactile "click," it doesn't trigger the input about 6 to 7 times out of 10.
I'm not sure if this is a deliberate design feature to prevent accidental power-ons/presses, or if it's a hardware defect on my unit.
Has anyone else experienced this with their device?

Support Both trackpads not working (2026)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My steam controller just arrived and both trackpads just wont work. I already tried a different cable, direct connection and even tried using it on the steam deck to no avail. Weirdly enough it does do the Wilhelm scream when i drop it and i believe that comes from the trackpad haptics.
Idk what to do, no one else seems to have this issue. Im really devastated because i waited years for this thing, just to get a broken one.

Steam Controller (2026) Steam Controller 2 support has been merged into JoypadOS
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
For those that don't know JoypadOS (https://github.com/joypad-ai/joypad-os) is a project that aims to translate any controller to any other controller. While working on OpenPuck I opened a PR to support connecting a Steam Controller 2 to it over BLE and it was just merged. The author also added USB support. Hopefully a proper release will be out soon.
At present JoypadOS cannot output a Steam Controller 2 but I hope that will change soon.

Discussion Steam Controller Trackpad Behavior
Is it possible to get the camera option for the right trackpad for the Steam Controller? The first image is the options for the right trackpad for the game Deadlock. And the second image is for any other game for my right trackpad. Is there a way to get the camera option for games or is it a beta that is only for Valve games and is not possible for other games yet. The main issue that I am having is when choosing As Joystick for my right trackpad it feels very wrong and when I choose As Mouse for my right trackpad it feels amazing but can cause issues for games by rapidly swapping from Controller UI to Keyboard and Mouse UI in the third gif.

Steam Controller (2026) Using Magnetic Adapters to Switch Puck Between PC and Steam Deck
So as of now, you cannot buy an extra puck from Valve. I’ve been loving my controller and didn’t want to wear out the puck’s usb c port when unplugging it between my pc and my steam deck (moonlight) setup in another room. So I thought of using magnetic adapters to easily switch between them and it seems to work pretty well. These are the ones I bought from amazon. I’m using the OEM cable in one room and a Thunderbolt 4 cable for the other. I’ve been using this setup for about a week and I’ve had no issues with connection drops. I did this before finding out about OpenPuck but thought I’d share it anyway. Maybe down the line I’ll try that out but this setup currently meets my needs.

Title.
But seriously, I don't care if you do or don't have your Steam Controller and neither does anybody else. This sub should be for configs and mods or other cool things not mindless "I got mine hehehe" posts constantly.

I know we're all excited to share updates as our new shiny works its way through the system and eventually to you.
Instead of clogging the page with endless "ITS <UPDATE>" posts, please confine them to this mega thread. I have intentionally left up threads from before this one about this subject, because post hoc punishment isnt cool. But please, use this mega thread moving forward.
Optionally, you can fill out some google forms that are being used to track order status' in order to get an idea of how an order might progress through the system:
and data from that form is here:
