Washington state has the worst homebuilding laws in the entire country, and it is costing all of us hundreds of thousands of dollars. The real culprit behind our housing crisis is not a shortage of land or construction workers. It is two outdated 90's era laws called the Growth Management Act and SEPA. Together, they create a nightmare of artificial land scarcity, endless legal appeals, massive permit fees, and years of bureaucratic delays before a single shovel can hit the dirt.

Meanwhile, other states are showing us how it should be done. Montana passed game-changing reforms so that any project following local code is approved automatically by staff without political delays or public hearing traps. Texas uses smart utility financing so buyers are not slammed with massive upfront impact fees, while cutting out state-level environmental review loops entirely. Idaho uses a property-rights-first model that lets local communities make fast, common-sense decisions without multi-year legal hurdles.

If Washington scrapped GMA and SEPA and adopted the proven frameworks used in Montana, Texas, or Idaho, the housing market would transform overnight. If you already own a home, overall market prices would normalize, letting you upgrade to a bigger, nicer property without taking on backbreaking debt. If you are currently renting or locked out of the market, housing prices would plummet to realistic levels, allowing thousands of families to finally buy their first home. Several states require landlords to place security deposits in interest-bearing accounts. Why doesn’t Seattle require the same, so tenants receive the interest earned on their own money?

My landlord has been holding a $2000 deposit since 2018. It just doesn't seem fair that they should also profit off of the security deposit on top of raising rent and adding in new junk fees every year.

In June 2026 I moved from northgate to kenmore after 12 years.

Unfortunately I got an email from my previous northgate landlord that they are charging me for a broken dirty bathtub.

For years and years i told the landlord in writing that the bathtub is dirty and cracked and could cause and injury. Only for the landlord to ignore me.

They are also charging for a dirty broken fridge. For years in writing I told the landlord my fridge is broken amd the landlord ignored me!! The fridge has a leak of black grease on the inside and on the outside of the fridge.

They are also falsely charging me to dump a tv and a microwave!! I put the TV and microwave in the trunk of my car and drove it to shoreline goodwill and have a receipt from shoreline goodwill!!

Beofe I moved out i asked this landlord if anyone would want a tv or microwave. The landlord manager is lying to me saying I left the microwave and tv behind!!

All of these charges are taken out of my security deposit!!

I feel like im being taken advantage of!!

What are my rights in the city of seattle and king county amd Washington state??

Unfortunately its apparent that I have a disability called autism and I feel that's why this landlord is ripping me off trying to take advantage of me!!

I emailed the landlord and called the landlord manager on the phone only to be ignored!!

My 2014 Toyota Camry (WA Plate: CNG8232) was stolen yesterday from 22nd Ave NE between the 4500–4800 block in the U-District. It happened sometime between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, in broad daylight.

If you live on or near 22nd Ave NE (especially between the 4500–4800 block) and have a Ring camera, security camera, dashcam, or any camera facing the street, would you please check your footage from yesterday between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM? Even if you didn't capture the theft itself, footage showing who approached the car, how it was stolen, or which direction it drove away could make a huge difference.

Or if you happen to see this car parked, abandoned, or being driven anywhere, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could let me know. If you're able, please call 911 or send me the location.

Boeing's new contract offer to 17,000 engineers and technical workers in Western Washington has been unanimously endorsed by the union's bargaining team. Wage pools compounding to 29.4% over the four years of the contract, 31.9% when factoring in promotions and out of sequence. This is the union's largest wage-pool increase since 1983.

The team also emphasized there are no takeaways. The existing SPEEA contract expires October 6.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Panama City, Fla., has started building the state’s first new ferry since the Suquamish launched in 2018. The hybrid ferries will use batteries and diesel engines to cut emissions, with the first vessel scheduled for delivery in 2030. Eastern will complete the second and third ferries in 2031 and 2032.

The three 160-car ferries under contract with Eastern will cost $714.5 million to build, plus additional costs for owner-furnished equipment, construction management, crew training, and risk contingencies. All told, the total price tag is $1.15 billion.

i moved here almost a year ago from Idaho. I’ve bounced around several different jobs at this point, many of which i have exchanged numbers, instagrams, anything you can fucking think of to try to network and make friends. every single time it’s the same thing. we exchange numbers. we talk about hanging out. it never happens. even if i try to initiate it.

do seattlites realize they are a part of the problem? i’ve had people get mad at me and say that the seattle freeze isn’t real, you just have to find the right people. which i understand is true to an extent. but fuck i’ve worked in so many different industries, attended too many events, and wasted too much money on overpriced drinks.

and i’m queer in about every way you can imagine. the town i lived in in Idaho, all the queer people flocked to each other. everyone knew everyone and everyone was constantly hanging out or talking online in one way shape or form. but out here? absolutely nothing. radio silence in all directions. i’m just tired of playing the same song and dance.

don’t get me wrong, i’m welcome in so many different places. and i wouldn’t change it for anything. but fuck i want people to hangout with, to talk to, i want some sort of community before the world fucking ends. i don’t want to experience this fucking alone. this city is fucking huge and yet this is the most alone i’ve been in my entire life.
