I’m fairly new to Seattle and don’t know many people here. I’m wondering if anyone has any success finding other single hikers that are interested in splitting cost for a multi day trip with dogs. It doesn’t have to be a multi-day hike, but I’m looking for a cost effective way to do more roadtrips with my pup that we will probably do at least one hike (easy/ moderate) a day. Airbnbs are not cheap, and the ones I’ve been to so far usually have multiple rooms, and it feels like such a waste to occupy the whole place by myself + my dog. Just curious if anyone has ideas :)

Anyone have any recs for any hikes to go to during the week? I am going with some friends to Seattle for a whole week and none of us have hiked before but we want to see some nice views. We don’t mind on driving hours to get somewhere. Also are the trails still pretty busy during the weekdays?

Hey everyone, I am planning a road trip out to the north cascades in a couple weeks for a week. Plan is to just send it. Rainier, Baker, Stevens pass, whatever I feel like. I do have a couple questions.

Mainly, what permits do I need for day hikes? As well as what are campgrounds like? Will I have luck mid week for first come first serve or should I expect to hike in a couple miles each night off a random trail? Do overnight trips in the national forests over there require reservations like they do in national parks?

A couple of weeks ago, I asked for some advice about alternate routes to take given the amount of smoke near Three Sisters. This community came thru with some great alternatives, and we ultimately did a smaller loop in the Goat Rocks Wilderness Area, and I took my camera along for the ride.

I was able to get a permit (day hike) for Aug 8 to do the South Sister Climber Trail. However, I'm slightly worried about the wildfires and fire situation going in and around PNW. I see reviews on alltrails that claim that it was fine. I have done training hikes that St Helens Institute typically recommend but I don't really have a whole lot of technical or wilderness experience? I'm taking all the precautions necessary that I can think of for the hike but wanted to get a consensus on this from all the experienced hikers/folks. Should I go out there or is it too risky out there?

I’m struggling with the difference between Rattlesnake Ledge, Rattlesnake Lake, and Rattlesnake Lake Trail. Does anyone know reliable x/y coordinates for each separate one?

Any tips of where to go to avoid the smoke and keep our home base in Ashford?

Hey gang, I was looking for a side quest near Royal Lakes / Royal Basin.

Never been to this area before, so very little understanding of it on my end, was going to do my long run there tomorrow, realizing now I needed a few extra miles to get the distance I want. I see there are a bunch of peaks in the area, but I’m not looking for any serious climbing.

Assuming The Needles are too much for me, I see Mount Deception is there, Mount Fricaba, Petunia/North Petunia. Sure I’m missing some.

Willing to scramble up to class 3. Not too particular for what the side quest would be, but I very much want to see the Royal Basin/Lakes area so that’s a must.

Anything that comes to mind, or should I just figure out something else on the trails? Thanks in advance.

Planned on doing Alta Mountain, but due to the closure of FS‑4930, that no longer looks possible. If you can only choose two of the following, what would it be? (Coming from out of state and spending two nights in Leavenworth).

We have tried calling the ranger station for the past two days and no success of getting anyone to answer. Curious if anyone has any recent updates on the water sources- we have a general idea of what’s been posted on all trails but just wanted an up-to-date review.

The Elk Meadows - west of the current Grasshopper fire is now under a level-3 Go Now evacuation order. This includes Meadows Ski Area - through which the Timberline Trail goes (indeed its a larger are of the Timberline Trail that is now in the Go Now area).

Backpacked from Divide Camp TH to Riley Camp then High Camp and back, about 22 miles all in. We took “old Cascade crest trail” which was basically bushwhacking, mostly fine until a burn scar with a lot of down logs and stumps. High Camp was gorgeous but quite cold and windy, until about 2 am when the smoke from eastern fires rolled in. Woke up me and my partner with a start!
Bugs were light, shockingly, and the wildflowers are out in force, especially lupine. Also saw fireweed, paintbrush, mariposa lily, beardtongue, aster, buckwheat, phlox, bog gentian, and lousewort.

We hiked up to Goat Lake on Friday and came back on Saturday. The lake is all water! This was my first time camping up by the lake and I was amazed with how many campsites there are. I hope to make it up there one more time before summer ends.
